No, she didn't. Katara is a creative, in the episode before "The Puppetmaster" called "The Runaway" she used her sweat to cut through the wooden bars... she already has experience bending water originating from a human body. Just... saying...

@@RealMarcy ok... let's also add, Katara is also a healer using her waterbending (and she was a natural). With that ability, she has a greater understanding of the human body; and that was discovered in the first season.
She is a fast learner, so her able to learn bloodbender quickly, seems correct with her background.
I feel like you’re correct, but also, this was katara’s first attempt at it, and she did it easily while under stress and being previously bloodbended herself, so I definitely think Yue had a hand in helping her out

I don't like the theory. The scene demonstrates how powerful Katara is (paraphrasing: "my bending is stronger than yours") and adding yue in the mix would take away from that. The full moon is just shown so prominently because it is linked to bloodbending.
thats the problem i always had with katara.. she was a mary sue who was "powerful" from the start. its not bad if ahe had help.. she wasnt an expert bender from the start.. and she did it in the first go
@@jabbawookeez01 Katara posessed a natural talent, but she still worked hard to become a master. Aang and Toph are super talented as well, so just pointing this out when it comes to Katara seems a bit tired.
@@Kadda975 she didnt work hard.. she was handed everything. she found the avatar that took her to the north pole where they bend the knee to 100s of years of tradition just to train her.. then litterly handed blood bending. everything was spoonfed to her
@@jabbawookeez01 The girl who had no one to teach her until she was 14 had everything handed to her? she trained by herself in the background of every episode of book one, gradually improving until she met master Pakku, who helped her realize her potential. And discriminating traditions are absolutely worth breaking.

Nah. Don't forget, Hama SHOWED Katara how to bloodbend. Hama didn't have a teacher; she had to invent bloodbending from scratch, and there was probably lots of trial'n'error and dead ends before she got it right. Katara skipped past all that by copying Hama's technique, so of course she learned it much faster than Hama did.
The fact that Katara learned it after just one lesson is just an example of what a talented bender she is. This is the girl who later took out Fire Lord Azula.
Hama didn't teach Katara. She told Katara that she should have learned how to blood bend before fighting her. Katara may have learned to do it just by watching her though

Well, the full moon was necessary for bloodbending at that point anyway, so that would explain why they showed the moon.
Considering the fact that we watched Toph invent a new form of bending the season before, it makes sense that benders are learning more nuance to the skill than the previous generation. Attributing Katara’s win to Yue’s power basically negates all of the existing Water Tribe lore, including the original waterbenders who studied the moon’s effect on the tides over a century before Yue was even born
In the Legend of Korra, there is family/group of Blood Benders that able to Blood bend w/out the Moon even one that can do so with his Mind only...

@@eileensnow6153not really. yue is part of the moon spirit. therefore katara gaing power from the moon and gaining power from yue is the same thing. its actually completely in line with water tribe lore given that it was the moon spirit that shared some of itself with yue for her to live and yue gave it back unifying herself fully with the moon spirit.
If someone explains something to you, you learn it a lot easier and faster, than when someone is self-taught.
I personally think the moon was shown so much and in detail to add to the scary vibes and to show the importance of the full moon and being able to bloodbend by itself.
I don't like the idea of Yue going all like "wooo I'm the moon spirit, Imma grant you more power because you need it right now, even though this power is terrible"
Yue is way too gentle to accept bloodbending, if she had influence on giving and taking power, she would take the bloodbending powers away as opposed to granting them
The full moon makes water benders stronger, that's why it was shown several times.

She did help her - the moon does empower water benders so saying she didn’t help her would just be oblivious. She strengthened Katara, still Katara put in the effort since Hama was strengthened as well
Yue didn't help. Katara just is that talented and puts in a lot of hard work.

I don’t think Yue would’ve known the skills needed to help, considering that she’s not a waterbender. I mean I suppose, as the moon spirit, she provided Katara with extra strength, but she provided extra strength to Hama as well as pretty much every waterbender who’s using their power under a full moon. I don’t think she has control over who she gives strength to, bc if she did she would’ve just made Hama too weak to bloodbend.
And I know that she didn’t help Katara learn anything bc she couldn’t. Again, she’s not a waterbender. She wouldn’t know anything about waterbending techniques.
So, no. I don’t think Yue helped at all. Katara defeated Hama on her own.
Since Yue became the Moon Spirit, she is now a waterbender given by having the life essence of the Moon Spirit. I don’t think she needs to know waterbending techniques now that she’s the source of power for all waterbenders. Her being a divine entity now she must’ve at least was given knowledge from the Moon Spirit’s life essence or even by the Ocean Spirit. I wonder why she wouldn’t be a waterbender in her human life if she had part of the Moon Spirit living inside her, so she must have some sort of influence over water or perhaps it’s life essence was solely for keeping Yue alive.
She’s literally the reason any water bender can bend… I think she’d grasp a thing or two from being the moon spirit 😭😭
yue is actually like one of the original benders once she turns into the moon spirit. the moon is what all waterbenders learned their craft from originally

Yue doesn't even know when a full moon should appear. I don't expect her to help Katara without showing some sort of ghostly body or mist around Katara.

First of all Katara did already waterbend her own sweat, also she had bent water she couldn't actually see not once but twice.
And of course Hama taught her how to extract water from living things just previously.
To top it off remember Katara's word "My bending is more powerful than yours" that helped for sure, at least in a pinch.
The way you can tell your seeing the moon or Yue
Is how the moon is drawn
Katara was using the moon's power not Yue.
But sokka was Infront of Yue the way the moon was drawn was more holy looking very bright and glowy
katara is a quick learner if there is someone or something she can observe and learn from, the only time she blocked was when she was on her own
Why would the girl who died and became the Moon Goddess help Katara when Katara was powerful enough to defeat Hama on her own?

I like to think that because she could use water bending to heal, that gave her some advantage in manipulating body fluids and stuff?
Katara shocked Pakku with how fast she learned and her power, Imma assume she just really like that🤷🏾♂️
No, it took Hama years because she invented it, knowing it (atleast for Hama) can only be done at full moon, so it isn't surprising it took her such long time to invent and create the technique on her own. She presented it to Katara, so with it being full moon, and having seen Hama use the technique on her. She must've been able to figure out her own way around it and overtake Hama. They also both came from the south watertribe, not sure if it had anything to do with it, but its atleast worth to mention.
I think with Katara when her emotions ran high so did her bending. When she got angry at Sokka in the first episode we saw just a small glimpse of what she was capable of when she found Aang in the Iceberg. When Aang get his Avatar tail kicked in by the Unagi cuz Aang foolishly tried riding it her love for him allowed her to make a short but statement making water jet that propelled them towards the land, not only that Katara bended water she couldn't see for the first time by bending the water out of Aang's lungs. Just as a couple of examples. So using that for context, reference, and precedent I think Katara's immense level of fear of losing the Aang and Sokka would end up allowing Katara to bloodbend even though she'd never attempted it beforehand.

You read into this too much. This theory just makes Katara less powerful of a master waterbender.
Water bending is powered by emotions it's possible that Katara's love to her friend and brother empowered her the moment Hama bended Sokka and Aang against each other or should I say Sokka against Aang
Well... Yes. The moon was needed for it so even if Yue isn't exactly intentionally helping, she helped.
Semma episode "puppet master"
The series has already shown how skillful Katara is at bending. Hama needed years of practice in order to control the puppets more intricately for her escape while Katara just used it to subdue Hama. But of course, the presence of the moon did help by enhancing their bending.
It’s like how katara took ages to master the basics before the show’s beginning, but when Aang learned from her he got on par quickly.
It’s easier when you see someone else do it
She's never tried to take water from plants either, but she did it anyway on the first try

I still think that Yue wouldn't be upset about sokka being with suki I think she would be happy he moved on and found somebody to be happy with
I think the reason Katara won was more due to her embracing the strength of other bender disciplines, as she is shown specifically using earthbending moves in particular while Hamma stayed to classic waterbending styles. Like Iroh said "When you separate the four elements, they become rigid and stale," so Hamma's commitment to only using water bending moves in her bending and Katara adapting other styles is a perfect portrayal of that sentiment.

I think personally it’s both, like katara is surely gifted, but a little help, a little pat pat on the back could be enough to help her talent to grow, again and again, more and more

About all of Aang's teachers were prodigies, save Zuko, and even he increased his skill and ability greatly after learning the true source of firebending(as well as learning from Iroh).

I agree with all the comments about how we shouldn't take away from katara's power.
But wanted to add: no, the moon isn't associated with Yue to everyone. It's only for Sokka. Sokka refused to kiss Suki when the moon was there because he loved Yue, and probably considered it disrespectful to kiss someone else in front of her. He's the only one that constantly thinks about the moon being Yue because she was very important to him and in his eyes he failed her by not being able to protect her.

Considering how she later bloodbent the leader of the southern raiders with ease, I don’t believe this to be true. Pakku stated that she was mastering waterbending faster than anyone he had taught before, so I have no doubt Katara could have picked up bloodbending quickly
My theory is that Hama didn’t fight back much; her goal was to get Katara to become a bloodbender and once she did that there was no further reason to fight.

What took her years to figure out was the technique itself, once you know that, executing it is easier.

Katara and Aang were absolutely great water benders. Katara, once she got together with a master, could pick up new techniques quite easily.

It's a Interesting theory. But I think that it was not that. Katara was a Prodigy of water bending, She mastered it so fast, faster than anyone in atla. And she learned un just one day the technics of that Hamma teched to her. And I think a so powerful waterbender would has noticed if in one instant her bending turns more powerful for any reason.
It would be great if that happened, really, but I think it was Katara cared so much for her friends and that leaded her to face Hama that way she did in the end

Could’ve been adrenaline in her body acting up, or it’s actually Yue helping Katara
There could have been extra elements seeking to help rebalance the elements after everything was so pushed out of balance.
I disagree, when Katara visited the northern water tribe they explained how the full moon strengthened water bender’s power and the moments leading up to this scene the old lady was all like “it’s gotta be tonight bc the full moon you’re at your strongest yada yada” the full moon in the background just emphasized how strong both their bending is
I think she's just a VERY powerful bender.
Also the moon is shown, because they need the moon to bloodbend, and for the horror like theme, wich alot of people forget that waterbender needs full moon and atleast awhile of practise to do bloodbending

Well that's actually really cool I didn't think of that, but Katara is a very powerful waterbender she could do it
There’s a lot to consider. Hama said the technique can only be done during a full moon when waterbenders are at their strongest so it’s no coincidence there was a full moon. Another thing is that katara mastered water bending from master paku who is probably the best water bender on the planet and Hama is either self taught or at best has some souther water bending training from her youth. Off the bat, kataras bending should be more effective than Hama hands down. I also think that katara has the physical advantage. She is much younger and stronger than Hama. If they were to fight without bending, I’d bet on katara so if their strength carries over to their bending, then katara would still come up top. Plus the way Yue helped Aang by stoping the waves of the ocean which is what the moon usually does, it controls the waves and current. Her abilities are most likely limited to the ocean and she can come and give words of encouragement since she is a spirit. I think katara just outslilled Hama and had the physical advantage

Yue had nothing to do with Katara bloodbending, prior to this episode we had already seen katara become a wayerbending master in the end of Book One Siege of the North Part 2 and given the history and decline of the southern water tribe, every water bender from the sieges during Hama's past to Zuko's arrival we had seen that the waterbenders were seemingly strong because they were great in numbers but they were severely outmatched when it came to skill because the northeners and the swampbenders were highly skilled due to traditions and knowledge being passed down whereas the southern tribe had no masters or available knowledge on waterbending
I absolutely would capture the scene here if Yue is shown in the full moon.
I think it was a 50-50. Bloodbending is a difficult bending skill, taking years to master. Now Katara is a quick learning, but to completely skip over years of training is quiet the feat either way. So even tho she's a powerful Waterbender, I like to think that Yue alined the moon just right to help push Katara's chi & spirit to help her master Bloodbending.

You see the thing is that the moon is ALWAYS full in this world. I mean it go back and watch all the episodes and everytime the moon is shown it’s always full unless it’s the winter solstice episode. Oh wait it’s full then too

It's an interesting theory but I feel like if that was the intention they would've shown her the way they showed her when she helped Aang. I feel like this theory also undervalues Katara as a waterbender.
I want it to be Yue now! I'm usually ok with characters calming themselves and finding their center to make a cool comeback, but Hama was *so clearly* toying with Katara that this makes much more sense for her comeback than just "ok she's done being afraid she's actually trying now." That scene always felt really sudden and forced and anti-climactic to me, for her to SUDDENLY be dominating Hama.
I don't think it was the actual intention of the scene, but I like this way more. Maybe, perhaps, it's both? Yue silently called out to Katara to focus on the moon, and Katara did the actual concentrating herself? Best of both worlds!
I would like to think that katara Master blood vending on her own because she had the strength and she cared about her friends
