In this movie, Aang is gonna be younger than he was when he showed up in Korra anyway so it's not like they're necessary changing his appearance because people didn't like it in Korra. They said he was 40 in that Korra flashback and he must be like 20 here, so maybe he just didn't feel like growing a beard yet.
I get what you're saying but... it kinda just looks like they stuck Last Airbender Aang's baby face on top of a fully grown man's body. It looks pretty funny, honestly, especially when everyone else looks visibly aged around him. Would it have killed them to narrow the shape of his eyes slightly, at least? That's an easy quick way to make a character look older.

Long hair in men historically has represented honor and strength. For most cultures a lack of hair cut was seen as not losing a fight. So In a way zuko has kept his honor for such a long time,he may struggle to stay on the right path but he’s not derailed from it
The Characters so far looks AMAZING 🤩!!as their older, I’m curious to see how will Azula and Mai will look. It’ll be cool if the OG voice actors would play their parts.
I really hope people push for the original actors. The magic of voice acting is that anyone can play any character. Samurai Jack is a Japanese character played by a black dude and it was great. Can you imagine changing Kronk's voice from Emperor's New Groove because Patrick Warburton isn't Incan? Also, the English voice actors that dub anime are rarely japanese american. It's like there's a group of people pretending to care about this when no one actually does. It's a real shame to since the original voice actors are the right ages, and are still in the business. This would probalby be the only time they would all work on another show together. I would personally love to hear adult Zach play Aang again since even though his voice has deepened, you'd most likely still hear kid Aang every now and then. But hey, if the internet can change sonic's design, maybe we can get the cast back for the film.
Meh. It’s important to give chances to those who are normally skipped over in this industry. There’s no reason to skip over them when/if the characters fit their ethnicities. It might also be great with more authentic voices
@@eauxgbobbyjohnson4452 Unless they were previously played by other actors who are still willing to return to their roles, and were loved by the fans who want them to play the characters again. Why don't they cast any new characters as Asian actors, keeping the original core cast the same?

this guy sees toph wearing basically the same thing "eh" - see katara wearing basically the same thing "wow! wonderful! great! flawless!" someone clearly had a crush
I am with you. This new woke era sucks on that aspect. Who cares about the race? It is a fucking cartoon. This sucks also because it makes no sense. This is a made up world. Katara is not ''native'' she's from the south pole. Aang is not asian, he's a monk from the air temples.. Also, you cannot narrow groups like that. If zuko is asian, who is to say that he is japenese or chinese? nothing makes sense because it is a made up world. If you cast a generally ''asian looking'' person, they can be korean, chinese, japenese. I would argue that this is ultimately more of a racist thing to do. We should cast people based on their abilities, not their skin color. Much love to everyone.
Zuko's culture is Japanese and Dallas Liu (who's playing Zuko in the new live action show) is of Chinese descent. But what I think is the most fucked up is that Dallas Liu and other people casted for ethnic roles are mostly people that just grew up in the states their whole life and only speak English. I wanna see what people do in 100 years when everyone in the US will be considered American and we can recognize people's races based on where they grew up, what languages they speak and what culture they are a part of.
@@poltergaist1422 "Who cares about the race? It is a fucking cartoon. This sucks also because it makes no sense. This is a made up world." I'm not too good on the details so take this with a grain of salt, but as far as I know all the tribes/nations/people in Avatar were based on real ethnicities. I believe the Air Nomads (and Aang by extension) were based off Tibetan monks, and the Water Tribes were based on the Inuit I think? I don't remember anything for the Fire Nation or Earth Kingdom unfortunately. Also, while generally I don't care about the skin tone of the actors casted in films I think it's important to understand why other people do, which is that the world has a history of whitewashing characters in media. In a perfect world no one would care and only abilities would be relevant (or at least the race wouldn't be AS big a deal). However the world we live in is not perfect, but is in fact still full of racism in many places, so a lot of people are very passionate about making sure things are true to the source when the source has diversity.
I didn’t hate Aang’s adult face however I just wish that the aging had the same consistency as Zuko’s aging he kept his narrow face and piercing eye. Other than being bald Aang looked nothing like his younger self. This picture however looks more consistent with his 12 yo self.
yeah but also keep in mind aang was 11 and zuko was like 16 so it makes more sense that he's going to have a more consistent facial structure when compared to the original series, aang on the other hand still had a lot of changing to go through.
Yea but I doubt you're gonna look at your 12 y/o self compared to your 40s and think you look exactly the same or similar lol. Some ppl were bigger or skinnier as kids, but then flip when they get older. I think is LOK version was perfectly fine imo.
@@thephilosopher7173 the face bones at 12 should be similar when aging. you do look more similar to your yout younger self than you make it out to be, unless we are staright up talking 9 year old versus 90 year old.
I loved Adult Aang's design and also he was 40 in the flashback in the legend of Korra, while here is either 20 or 22 so it would make sense his face is not as chiseled plus the animation is a different style it's more animeish, so of course he looks different.
I absolutely HATE that they’re not bringing the og voice cast to be “more diverse “ , like it’s a nice idea and they can do that for their new projects but this the og team , no one voiced these characters for almost 20 years , we all watched them with those voices and they did an incredible job , plus they all are still actively working and in the avatar community, there’s absolutely no reason to change the voice acting
No, there's a reason: they want to provide jobs for people of color who consistently get ignored because of proud, open racism. You just disagree, and you can! Don't watch the show. Others will, since what they're choosing to do is important.
@@nailinthefashion well, to be fair, they can still provide jobs by letting them voice new characters, extras etc, they don't gotta replace the iconic OG team 😅 Not saying this BCS I'm against them hiring a more diverse set of VA's, I think it's a great idea to hire more POCs for Voice Acting, it just sucks to replace the old ones when they did such a good job and have such iconic performances that people really resonated with. Such a bad call the original voices aren’t coming back. Zach, I understand he’s not really an actor right now, but the rest should absolutely come back. Everyone who grew up with ATLA is going to be expecting the OG voices. But, I’m still rooting for it to be good. But these Voice Actors deserve to carry on their own legacy. Why have Nickelodeon sponsor Dante and Janet’s podcast and have them be such a big part of Avatar studios in that sense if they aren’t being included in the new content?
When I first heard Zach Tyler Eisen’s voice on the podcast, I immediately thought “Wow, he sounds like Adult version of Aang”. Like sure you his voice matured because he’s older now (clearly) but you could still hear the subtleties and nuances that were reminiscent of when voice acted as Aang all those years ago. I literally had nostalgia just listening to him on the podcast as a fan who grew watching ATLA when I was a kid. Let's digest this. Suki is NOT a member of TEAM AVATAR. She's a Kyoshi warrior who helps out from time to time. She has her own group. The Kyoshi Warriors. She's just another awesome friend they can rely on for backup in desperate times. Just like the other side characters in the series. I thought this was obvious. The TRUE members are the ones who are literally with Aang day in & day out. Suki, isn't one of those members because she knows her place is with the Kyoshi Warriors. She's more like a, ''hit me up if ya'll truly need me, but besides that be safe out there guys'' kind of character. It's not the same lol. Someone who is a part of the team drops everything in their personal life to be a part of Team Avatar. Everyone but Suki does this. Toph, Sokka, Katara, and Zuko literally left their lives behind to join the Avatar. Suki hasn't done that. IMO She would've became a TRUE member IF, she passed down leadership to a different Kyoshi warrior and ran away as a SOLO warrior to join Aang. Than she would've been goated as a member..... but she doesn't do that. So in my eyes she's still a side character.
@@EMoney0527 I’m sorry, but I truly believe that Suki was only present because of her love for Sokka. I think that Suki was intended to only be Sokka’s love interest (who is also BADASS). Suki did NOT………..Do I make sense?¿?¿
It's tragic to hear that they won't use the same voice actors. At least for projects that are already running. I would even go as far as to say it is ignorant and disrespectful to the previous cast that put so much love and work into it. It's become their character. No one else should voice them if they still want to! Makes me sad and mad. Will take away from the nostalgia...i hope i will Still be able to enjoy it
Seriously ethnic voices?? I totally understand getting ethnically accurate actors for a live-action performance but voices?? I'd much rather get to hear the OG voices all grown up
@André Santos unless the accent/ability to speak another language is important to the character. But that's not important for the Avatar Squad so I still can't wrap my head around the decision 😅 It's so risky and strange, specially when the original actors really made the characters.
I remember there was hate for how Diane in Bojack horseman was voiced by a white woman even though the character is Vietnamese. I literally never noticed. People go out of their way to get mad. They are probably just trying to avoid unnecessary BS.
You guys can totally correct me if I'm wrong but apparently in an interview it's stated that Suki had an early death and that she died in battle. Maybe that's why she's not there.
I mean I'm not doing an indepth investigation but googled "did suki die in avatar" and first search results says "Last we were told of by the creators, Sokka and Suki “retired to the suburb” while Sokka kept his job on the Republic council."
i can understand getting them ethnically correct when you see them on screen because well you actually see them and want them to look the closest to their characters as possible. however never got why it has to be that way for the voice acting! the only time i could of think it would matter is if you want to use accents based on their ethnicity. 🤷♀
My thoughts exactly. The priority for casting should be how well they represent their character. In-live action this includes voice but also looks. In voice-overs it should only include voices. Since these characters are already established to not have asian accents, it's especially irrelevant what ethnicity the actor is.
I disagree. I think they didn't have accents because they had a bunch of white people playing the characters before. I love the representation. I don't see why they shouldn't cast people of the same ethnicity. It's not like they are just going to choose someone based solely on the fact that they are indigenous or Asian or anything. They're still going to be cast because they are good at what they do. But it's giving opportunities to people they would've normally looked past. To communities of people who don't usually get a shot at it. I mean.. we really lack in indigenous representation in media and not because we lack indigenous people who act.
I really like Zuko’s look in this leaked image, the long hair is pretty sick too. All the characters look great! Can’t wait to see more Avatar. Kind of disappointed that the original VAs won’t come back.
Every single design is TOP TIER! I couldn't be more excited for this movie.. (also, if you ask me, I don't think it's already guaranteed to be set in Republic City simply because of similar architecture, it would be weird for them to go back to a place that was so well established in Korra, while also setting in stone the timeline that, odds are, they were all very old, or at least late 40's by the time Republic City was even significant; and say it was republic city anyway, that doesn't mean that the entire story would be destined to take place there either, it is a movie after all, so there will probably be a lot of cool locations shoved into this project.)
Zuko (the oldest) is only 4yrs older than Aang and Toph (the youngest) so there’s no way those two could be in their early 20s with Zuko in his 30s already lol. The Gaang as a whole is probably in their 20s or 30s.
Sokka's voice actor being recast is wild. The rest of the gaang I kinda understand, but like Sokka had already hit his voice change and everything in the show and...man, his voice is so iconic
Ethnically accurate VA's doesn't really make much sense, considering that the Avatar verse is... entirely fictional? What, they gonna bring native water tribe voice actors? LOL Anyway, the background seems more like Fire nation to me, lots of Pagodas there, not like Republic City.
For Zuko, he probably isn't taking the official, royal hair piece out and about traveling 😅I would expect that to be a royal familiy heirloom so that's likely back home safe in the palace.
As a little kid I had once thought that suki would be apart of aangs group soon after her and sokka would be together and I know that it isn’t fair to the fans if she wasn’t included.
I like the looks on this and I actually look forward to seeing the characters older. Especially Toph. She was always my #1 crush of the show since I was a little kid watching. I had no idea fans had such a problem with The Legend of Korra's version of adult Aang. He looked fine to me.
it's the stupidest most politically correct bs ever. voice acting can be done by anyone, women play male characters voices all the time. limiting your options like this is idiotic and i hope this movie flops
regarding Zukos long hair and "he doesn't like Hair cuts" Xiran Jay Zhao pointed out that cutting his/her hair is a sign of dishonor (so when Zuko and Iroh left the fire nation behind they cut their hair to get rid of this Honor/ their status. Also the animated Mulan would not have cut her hair because of dishonor and long haired males in the Army would not be a topic). so anyway it makes sense that Zuko has again longer Hair :)
Tbh, I loved Aangs look/design in Korra/TLOK, people fr fr honestly just complain too much, what do they expect, for him to not age? 😂 Facial appearances, as well as your body changes as you get older, so what was there for them to not like, honestly, I laugh at the stupidity, those who had a problem with how he looked, obviously are too stuck on ATLA and can't except the fact that Aang and the Gaang will, and have gotten older. I think he looked sick in Tlok, my boy was looking like a bad ass superhero lol.
I think it’s fitting that they made Aang’s face a little more round as opposed to how he looked in LOK. Just like Roku was older when he spoke to Aang, I think the chisel faced Aang might be middle aged because he dies a bit younger than previous Avatars (because of the century in an iceberg). This rounder dace is probably how he would’ve looked in his twenties as a young man.
i dont agree at all with people getting mad at pc because "its just a cartoon" but i do agree the og voice actors should play them. ethnic and racial rep only matters when it comes to live action, this is just justifying the hatred of the people who dont care about the cultural representation in the show which is a huge problem since the whole "racebending" thing got yt people mad the show wasnt about them
I just wanna say, just because Suki’s not in the poster now, doesn’t mean she won’t be. We’ve still got 5 years to wait, a lot could happen between now and then.
They didn't change his design. He's just younger here. If he's in his 20's, then what we saw of him in Korra was probably his 30's or 40's. Personally, I LOVED the design for older Aang (in both cases, actually). The part I didn't like was his change in personality. They hinted at him being goofy in pictures in Korra. But in flashbacks, he was the one being deadpan while Toph was calling him Twinkle Toes. I picture him being more like monk Gyatso, or even like the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, himself (With less tongue sucking). Basically having some goofy quip. Probably a nickname for Toph.
You don't need to be ethnically accurate, just as a lot of medias aren't gender accurate. Women have voiced men and men have voiced women. However, I'm still hoping it's just as good. You're right, it doesn't matter but I was looking forward to the nostalgia. Granted, their voices should've changed by now so I guess it might not be too outlandish.
THEY LOOK SO GOOD OMG IM CRYING OF HAPPINES I MISS THEM SOOO MUCH 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Katara looks nice she looks like herself! Zuko looks so good with his long hair! I loved how aang doesn't have a beard and instead big eyes and round face, i think he looks so much better than he did in Tlok I hope they never change it! Sokka looks masculine with all those muscles! And Toph looks pretty with her new outfit! ...... Where's Suki?
avatar fans, our time has come. After years of watching the avatarist and other videos like him, we're approaching ever so slightly to what we've been waiting for.
Maybe they just feared Suki being in the poster could confuse people new to the franchise, because there will be a Kyoshi movie dk. Also Zuko has firelord duties, Suki has Kyoshi duties.
That’s what I’m wondering here. Katara had Tenzin at 34 years old and Tenzin was a baby in that old family photo, while Bumi was significantly older. He looks like he’s 10 but he could be as young as 6. Meaning she could’ve had bumi as old as 28 or as young as 24. Zuko is the oldest person here meaning he must be one of the characters in their early 30s. He’s 2 years older than Katara so wouldn’t she be at least 28? Literally around the time Aang and Katara have their first child. I wonder if this will be a plot point. I think that would be super neat!
@@dreamiicloud1179 Yup, but if they're going up against a major threat Bumi would probably be at the Southern water tribe with his grandfather to be safe so he probably won't be in the movie.
Suki was definitely a part of Team Avatar, and a vital one too . My prediction is that at the point of this film, either she and Sokka are broken up, or, God forbid, Suki is dead . Or maybe just moved on all together, idk . But she IS a part of Team Avatar in the original show, idc idc idc !!! (… also I need a reveal that Sokka fathered Toph’s 2nd daughter, but anywho !)
It is too early. We will get more I am sure once we get closer to release date. We must be patient. For Sokka and Suki possibilities are endless. I am hoping they are still together. Also book avatar legacy implies Suki was alive at least 25 years after the hundred year war
i swear its gonna flop so hard if they dont bring in the og voice actors🤦🏽♂️ literally not a single person wants different voice actors and they will regret the decision for sure.
Well the decision was rooted in literal racism so yeah let’s hope they do regret it. There is no such thing as “ethnically accurate casting” since the ATLA world is filled with FANTASY ETHNICITIES.
I'm sorry but Zuko with long hair CAN GET IT. *fans self* edit: Also wasn't Aang in his 40s or 50s the flashbacks in LoK? I think there's a scene where he literally says he's 40 to Toph. Doesn't it makes sense he loses all that baby fat in his 40s? Your skin gets less elastic as you age so if you remain trim, your facial features will protrude more. Seems, perfectly normal.
I love the Korra design of Aang, also I hope Sokka gets space sword back!! (Edit: wanted to add this:) Suki dies really young, so she might not be on the poster 'cause she's already dead ;-;
If it was a live-action, I would understand the need to be racially accurate, but this is a voice over of well liked and established characters. Let the original voice actors reprise their roles.
Recently rewatched The Last Airbender and I joked with a friend that if Avatar aired 5+ years later then it did, it would have been a very different show. Comment section proving me right with insistence that they get entirely new voice actors to match the characters ethnicities. Obsession with race and other woke rhetoric that don't belong in a nostalgia film for those who didn't grow up in the current world obsessed with race politics.
Ive always loved this show and the diversity that inspired the character design. So many under represented people groups and cultures! One of the few things I would maybe say was a missed opportunity with the original and not creating any characters inspired by the rich history of black African warriors. Maybe they can introduce something or a character that can change that. I do love the show but it’s something I’ve always wondered what if. Just thoughts ❤😊

It all looks amazing. Hopefully we can get proper quality action figure for these characters. From mafex, shf or revoltech.i mean, how tf is this really highly rated animation series didn't have proper toys merch.
WHY DO THEY NEED TO BE ETHNICALLY ACURATE VOICE ACTORS??? It's a god damn voice, we ain't looking at them we are watching an animation! For Christ sake. Exclusiveness just for exclusiveness sake. SMH.
I think we all should have an open mind to seeing leaks, reveals, etc. Dissecting and drawing early conclusions just brings bad connotations before the release and all the negative highlights will only just ruin the experience because of preconceived opinions. Happens naturally of course when it’s something we all cherish and look forward to, but have an open mind people 😊
Ok I just going out here and saying it, casting for ethnicity for VOICE roles is kinda silly. If this was live action it would be nice to see the characters on screen resemble the ethnicity their culture was based around. But when it's voice I just want the best voice for the character. I'm saying this as an Asian myself.
@@eauxgbobbyjohnson4452 ummmm, I mean these characters have been established for years now with voice actors already in their roles. You can make new characters though and have those be ethnic accurate and all that. That’s the beauty of story telling.
@@austinking5092 yall can just say you don't care about correcting societal wrongs lmao. Would you accept the casting if the creators themselves say they'd like to offer the roles to people of color given they have infinitely more resources to be patient and considerate?

@@nailinthefashion what’s really immature is to think only your opinion is right and that anyone that doesn’t share that same opinion must therefore be wrong but also against “correcting societal wrongs”. Austin even said to make new characters and have them be ethnically accurate. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to hold onto part of the past that brought such joy to literally everyone in the fandom, while simultaneously allowing for progress in creating new characters with ethnically accurate voices. Just because ppl don’t want different VA’s for the original cast doesn’t mean they’re against minorities. idk why ppl like you always gotta make everything about race. Last thing I give 2 shits about when I hear a voice is “I wonder if that VA is white, if not I’m not gonna like this show”. 🙄
this guy sees toph wearing basically the same thing "eh" - see katara wearing basically the same thing "wow! wonderful! great! flawless!" someone clearly had a crush
Sucks that the OG voices won't be there, especially since they'd be the perfect ages. Unless one of their voices changed way too dramatically
ye true but are they using their korra voices by that i mean the flasbacks or completely new voices
@@poltergaist1422
"Who cares about the race? It is a fucking cartoon. This sucks also because it makes no sense. This is a made up world."
I'm not too good on the details so take this with a grain of salt, but as far as I know all the tribes/nations/people in Avatar were based on real ethnicities.
However the world we live in is not perfect, but is in fact still full of racism in many places, so a lot of people are very passionate about making sure things are true to the source when the source has diversity.

yeah but also keep in mind aang was 11 and zuko was like 16 so it makes more sense that he's going to have a more consistent facial structure when compared to the original series, aang on the other hand still had a lot of changing to go through.
Yea but I doubt you're gonna look at your 12 y/o self compared to your 40s and think you look exactly the same or similar lol. Some ppl were bigger or skinnier as kids, but then flip when they get older. I think is LOK version was perfectly fine imo.

@@nailinthefashion well, to be fair, they can still provide jobs by letting them voice new characters, extras etc, they don't gotta replace the iconic OG team 😅
Not saying this BCS I'm against them hiring a more diverse set of VA's, I think it's a great idea to hire more POCs for Voice Acting, it just sucks to replace the old ones when they did such a good job and have such iconic performances that people really resonated with.

She was literally a crucial part of the final battle.

i can understand getting them ethnically correct when you see them on screen because well you actually see them and want them to look the closest to their characters as possible. however never got why it has to be that way for the voice acting! the only time i could of think it would matter is if you want to use accents based on their ethnicity. 🤷♀
My thoughts exactly. The priority for casting should be how well they represent their character. In-live action this includes voice but also looks. In voice-overs it should only include voices. Since these characters are already established to not have asian accents, it's especially irrelevant what ethnicity the actor is.
No it’s these clowns are just pushing their agenda
These clowns are pushing their stupid agenda

Comment section proving me right with insistence that they get entirely new voice actors to match the characters ethnicities. Obsession with race and other woke rhetoric that don't belong in a nostalgia film for those who didn't grow up in the current world obsessed with race politics.
You: Toph just looks older... eh its fine.
Also you: Katara looks like an older version of herself. Absolutley flawless.
Me: wut
They all look awesome!!!
That’s pretty annoying they didn’t bring the original cast back… so damn annoying
I like these character designs. Katara looks AMAZING.
LETS GOO! Dude Ive been counting down the days ever since I found this channel LMAO
SAME!
“It’s a warriors wolftail”
The same voices from ATLA honestly would have been amazing
That splash just confirms one thing...
*Boomerang **_always_** comes back.*
Still, They ain't bringing back the OG cast? Hard pass lol
3:30 that’s a mistake, Zukos voice actor is not getting recasted it says it right there lol
Yes he is
@@squidwardstentacle is he? The voice actor is Asian.
@@abbeyBominable123 he’s Asian American. Born in America.
@@mlh1367 yeah. I just read that he WILL return as Zuko. Makes perfect sense as he is still Asian.
@@mlh1367 Yeah most of the actors are probably still going to be american... considering none of the characters had accents except for Iroh
Everyone looks so good and SMEXY!!! Also old man Aang is an OG put respect on him
I'm a true Avatarist fan!!!!
When is it releasing??
Sokka be like "Hey Avatarist, it is not a ponytail. This is a warrior's wolf tail!!!"
Let’s gooooo!!!
Everyone asking about suki.
Where is uncle Iroh? I hope we see him in this film
Some localised versions are probably gonna use the voices the audiences are used to, where possible.
People really didn't like how Aang looked in Korra? He looked really good
People are idiot
Fr
just my personal casting.
Marc dirasion. kaiji tang, spike spencer, or max mittelman as aang
Brad swaile or Stephen fu as zuko
Kira Buckland or Kate Higgins as togh,
Trina nishimura as suki
Todd harberkun or brain beacock as sokka
Lindsey stale or Lauren Lander as azula
Zuko looks badass. But they all look great. He just deserves an extra mention!
Awesome image 😄
What does it mean “ethnically accurate”?? This is a fantasy world…
Oh man I can't wait for this! I would really like to hear the original voice cast but what can we do.
Technically aang is the oldest 🤣🤣
Physical he was 66 when he died but technically he was 165
It all looks amazing.
SMH.
AHHH I’M SO EXCITED ❤🙌🔥
It's so stupid to not have the original cast back b/c most voice actors don't look like who their voicing in the first place 😤🙄
Can you imagine if you had to look like an animated character to get the role? They'll have to find someone that looks like Appa and Momo.
I think we all should have an open mind to seeing leaks, reveals, etc. Dissecting and drawing early conclusions just brings bad connotations before the release and all the negative highlights will only just ruin the experience because of preconceived opinions. Happens naturally of course when it’s something we all cherish and look forward to, but have an open mind people 😊
"Ethnically accurate voices" *facepalm*
Ok I just going out here and saying it, casting for ethnicity for VOICE roles is kinda silly. If this was live action it would be nice to see the characters on screen resemble the ethnicity their culture was based around. But when it's voice I just want the best voice for the character. I'm saying this as an Asian myself.
