Sorry but I dont agree. Both One Life and AMC were mere shadows of the classic days depicted here. Especially AMC was a gutted shell of the masterpiece that Agnes Nixon created. And the ratings were minuscule. And soaps cost way more to produce today. One Life had turned to a cartoon under Valentini and Carlavati. I cant say I really miss either show. I miss them from this era when they were great.

    • @deontyler960
      @deontyler960 3 роки тому +4

@@dg-sl5jb Sorry I have to disagree somewhat.... I totally agree that both All My Children and One Life To Live were mere shadows of the past and they gutted All My Children in fact all of the ABC soap operas was going downhill when ABC Head Daytime Executives, Brian Frons took over. He himself stated he didn't care for the history nor vets of the shows cause he didn't want it to become like a senior citizen soap opera like Young and the Restless.
Brian Frons purposely backgrounded, fired and killed most vets and replaced them with teenager's and his favorite characters AMC Ryan, Greenlee and Annie, OLTL Rex, Gigi and the Rappaports, replaced character story-telling with plot storylines, banned Agnes Nixon from meeting's and hired the last head soap writers from cancelled soap operas.
However, even though One Life To Lives producer Frank Valentini and head writer Ron Carlavati took over the show and some storylines was a little silly, but they have been going back to character storytelling and dealing with the history of the show.
The show became more entertaining than it has been in years. One Life To Live ratings rose up to the #3 spot and even beat Young and the Restless demographic ratings at times for awhile.
Only show Brian Frons wanted to keep was General Hospital cause it was the first ABC soap and living off of the glory days of Luke and Laura. He didn't even gave the consideration to tell the All My Children actors after they moved from New York to California that the show was canceled cause he lied and said it was rumors.... All My Children actors found out that both All My Children and One Life To Live was being canceled off of TV than Brian Frons, but he kept General Hospital on and that was the lowest rated show of all soap operas that time and the new talk shows canceled before it had a chance to really start.... So sad....

    but they kept the
    drama going in the storylines,
    American soaps went from
    the characters sitting around
    the kitchen table
    talking of their problems
to actually acting out the storylines
even venturing outside the bleak studio
props into real scenery to what it is today
but today's soaps that is of the four
remaining ones still on the storylines
of today are just not the same,
    the original families no longer
    exist they are either deceased
or they are just lost in limbo,
the core characters are no longer
around and the current characters are
    not the same,
these old episodes are great to watch
to bad for a lot of the older ones that may
never be seen in reruns due to
the erasing of the tapes that
    the networks did,
    thanks for showing."-🤔.

100%. Back in the day , when both MEN and TEENS hated soap operas - the friggin entire half hour was 2 people in a living room or kitchen - TALKING about the rest of the cast in a hushed tone like a conversation in a funeral parlor. "So, does Sarah want to keep the baby?" . "Maybe. it's just that Joe does not know that he's the father". "Is your sister coming for a visit?" "I'm afraid she has her hands full-- her daughter was arrested last week and ......" . And it would go ON and ON and ON. No action. Just talk. Like 2 people reading a script to each other. Then sometime in like 1977 -- things changed. Plot lines got more twisted with serial killers, stalkers and the now classic "Who Killed _____________ ? (Fill in the name of the sleazy villain) Plotline. And even though I DESPISE General Hospital: Luke and Laura's DREARY romance circa early 1980s: told the world; HEY , MEN : You can enjoy soap operas TOO! It's not just for housewives anymore ! HEY TEENAGERS and KIDS : You can enjoy them too !!
