Sorry but I dont agree. Both One Life and AMC were mere shadows of the classic days depicted here. Especially AMC was a gutted shell of the masterpiece that Agnes Nixon created. And the ratings were minuscule. And soaps cost way more to produce today. One Life had turned to a cartoon under Valentini and Carlavati. I cant say I really miss either show. I miss them from this era when they were great.

I totally agree that both All My Children and One Life To Live were mere shadows of the past and they gutted All My Children in fact all of the ABC soap operas was going downhill when ABC Head Daytime Executives, Brian Frons took over. He himself stated he didn't care for the history nor vets of the shows cause he didn't want it to become like a senior citizen soap opera like Young and the Restless. Brian Frons purposely backgrounded, fired and killed most vets and replaced them with teenager's and his favorite characters AMC Ryan, Greenlee and Annie, OLTL Rex, Gigi and the Rappaports, replaced character story-telling with plot storylines, banned Agnes Nixon from meeting's and hired the last head soap writers from cancelled soap operas. However, even though One Life To Lives producer Frank Valentini and head writer Ron Carlavati took over the show and some storylines was a little silly, but they have been going back to character storytelling and dealing with the history of the show. The show became more entertaining than it has been in years. One Life To Live ratings rose up to the #3 spot and even beat Young and the Restless demographic ratings at times for awhile. Only show Brian Frons wanted to keep was General Hospital cause it was the first ABC soap and living off of the glory days of Luke and Laura. He didn't even gave the consideration to tell the All My Children actors after they moved from New York to California that the show was canceled cause he lied and said it was rumors.... All My Children actors found out that both All My Children and One Life To Live was being canceled off of TV than Brian Frons, but he kept General Hospital on and that was the lowest rated show of all soap operas that time and the new talk shows canceled before it had a chance to really start.... So sad....
I never got to see those ep with Joe or Tom as I was only born 1978 And I wish they would put them on DVD mainly 1968 year when Joe was young as Lee Patterson was and still is my favorite actor

It’s fun to see Tina before she became the hellion of the show! The scene where Vicki confronts Karen should be used to show the folks who deride soaps that they were excellent examples of drama and acting. A bygone era but you have given us a rare treasure from that time. Would like to see more of OLTL before the arrival of the cowboys. Thank you.
@@renealexander2703 Big whoop. Soaps really slipped into some ridiculous adventure stories in the 80s. They all were trying to copy GH and the Luke and Laura on the run stuff. That time had its moments. But for One Life I preferred the mid to late 70s. The story were much more down to earth and realistic.

this episode is so great. every time karen says, "i've been waiting so long to be punished" my heart breaks, and the scene where viki confronts marco is pure soap deliciousness 🍿. everyone always talks about how tina is so young here, but what makes these scenes even better in retrospect is that in the timeline of the show, todd and victor jr. are like 8 years old. so i like to imagine that viki would have taken care of them just like she took care of karen and tina. i wish someone had the episodes with judith light and robert desiderio. i'd love to see some of their scenes together.
An outstanding set of scenes between Erika Slezak (Viki) and Judith Light (Karen). They epitomized a strong friendship. Viki protected Karen from Marco; and the following year Karen testified for Viki during the Marco murder trial.
He was even better when he played opposite Gillian Spencer when she played Vicki. Lee Patterson and Gillian Spencer rocked. Great chemistry. Lee Patterson gives a more sedate performance after he returns to this soap vs before he left in the early 70's. He was more fiery and animated just full of life and energy.Still loved him with Vicki always.

It is so weird to see this shy teenaged Tina! I didn't start watching OLTL until 1980 but I have seen 1979 episodes online since then - so interesting to see Judith Light early in her 5 year run as Karen. I like the work I have seen of Kathryn Breech, the first Karen, but I have never seen Julia Duffy's version of her.
What Viki said about Tina starting at about the 34:57 mark pretty much sums up the Tina the viewers see for the next 30+ years on and off. It's also a statement that Viki needed to say to Cord. It explains what makes Tina tick.
Enter Tina, the start of all of Viki's problems; if only she had just put her in the system as anyone else would've done, Viki's life could've been so problem-free!

Back in the day , when both MEN and TEENS hated soap operas - the friggin entire half hour was 2 people in a living room or kitchen - TALKING about the rest of the cast in a hushed tone like a conversation in a funeral parlor. "So, does Sarah want to keep the baby?" . "Maybe. it's just that Joe does not know that he's the father". "Is your sister coming for a visit?" "I'm afraid she has her hands full-- her daughter was arrested last week and ......" . And it would go ON and ON and ON. No action. Just talk. Like 2 people reading a script to each other. Then sometime in like 1977 -- things changed. Plot lines got more twisted with serial killers, stalkers and the now classic "Who Killed _____________ ? (Fill in the name of the sleazy villain) Plotline. And even though I DESPISE General Hospital: Luke and Laura's DREARY romance circa early 1980s: told the world; HEY , MEN : You can enjoy soap operas TOO! It's not just for housewives anymore ! HEY TEENAGERS and KIDS : You can enjoy them too !!
