Eddie Redmayne: Playing Lili In ‘The Danish Girl’ Was A Gift | TODAY
Eddie Redmayne is so very well spoken, a terrific actor. He seems like a very kind hearted person as well.
Bonobo3D Exactly why I have a crush on him even tho he’s married and have kids 😅😍🤤
He's great at acting not because he wants to win an award, but because he's passionate & he truly loves acting. The proof is right here, the host keeps talking about bagging the award & Eddie talks about how happy & lucky he is to take on very challenging roles
Wow Eddie is the definition of male beauty
+Isabelle Mathers and female beauty, did you see him in the trailer!
Jack Boswell Yes! He is absolutely brilliant i can't wait to see the film!
i watched it yesterday, it was one of the best films i've ever seen if not the best!
Jack Boswell So excited to see it! He surely has to win an award for it!
+Isabelle Mathers This movie is really good:D
I wish this interviewer had listened and responded to what Eddie Redmayne was saying rather than spending the whole time focusing on whether he'd win an Oscar. Eddie may as well have been talking to himself.
+Hipster B That's asking a lot from Matt Lauer, one of the most lame interviewers on tv. Only one worse than him is Barbara Walters with her constant goal to make people cry during their interviews.
Ah, I don't know him as I'm from the UK. I know Barbara Walters though and I agree about her too.
Have you seen the movie yet? I saw it yesterday - magnificent. All the acting was superb.
I haven't seen it yet. I'm looking forward to it.
yes
This interviewer was so annoying. Eddie is trying to talk about the movie and his experience playing the role, not a guessing game of whether or not he'll win another Oscar.
+Alexa Ofelia We should take note of the fact that he wasn't at all even a little offensive about the serious issue of transitioning. We constantly criticize interviewers for being insensitive about these things, but we never point to good examples of how to talk about these things. I think that (while he is a very poor interviewer in some respects) he handles the topic of Elinar being transgender excellently. It's unfortunately brief, but it was so great that he reminds us this isn't just a controversial movie about being transgender, it's a love story.
Well, Matt is a sexual predator, so he probably couldn't imagine how to ask anything about Lili, a character he'd never understand.
ua-cam.com/video/ChWiZ3iXWwM/v-deo.html
the interviewer its obsessed with the oscars and fame.
ikr
Eddie Redmayne is such a beautiful man inside and out. He's just perfection. He is a human I can say I don't see any flaws in. But all the interviewer seemed to care about was whether or not he'd win an Oscar. Like, hello? Did you hear anything the man just said!?
FreedomWriter3 right!! I feel ya!!!
every time I see him i fall more in love with him
Siya Bora same
Siya Bora me too
Siya Bora agreed! This movie was so beautiful and sad, but I love it!
he is precious
Siya Bora same
Eddy is a humble talented actor. I hope he wins another Oscar.
CAN WE JUST TAKE A MOMENT TO JUST APPRECIATE EDDIE REDMAYNE BC OF THIS ALSO HOW THE HELL DOES HE LOOK SO BEAUTIFUL AS A WOMAN LIKE WTH
he looks better than me ;-;
Sam Mae get u a guy who can do both 😂lol
Sam Mae t
@@m.saeed-uz-zaman7535 I know it's have been three years but it is a cisgender or just cis woman, not an "actual" woman. Trans women are as actual as any cis woman
@@lolimilan8933 no you're right. I should've been more careful with my wording. Thank you for pointing it out
I didn't expect it to have such a sad ending! Beautiful movie, outstanding actor!
Why post a sort-of spoiler, though?
I love Eddie, I truly hope he will win an Oscar!!!!!!
+Rocky Glambert Nope, it's Leo's time
+Rocky Glambert Next Oscar Leo's gonna win. It's just the way it is with a performance as good as his in The Revenant
+JustinHenryfan what movie is that?
+ternitamas The Revenant
JustinHenryfan thanks! =)
My god! I saw him in the theory of everything and he just blew me away. He was amazing and I remember walking out of the cinemas saying this guy is going to win an Oscar and a few weeks later he did!
i know Eddie will get another Oscar for his refine and wonderful work here. greatness in front of us.
+Keith Mariano No way, it's the year of Leonardo DiCaprio. How many oscars does one actor need anyways?
+JustinHenryfan is leo nominated for any movies this year?
+Heidi Caterina The Revenant
+Keith Mariano Next Oscar Leo's gonna win. It's just the way it is with a performance as good as his in The Revenant
+JustinHenryfan he's losing sorry eddie in this movie was in another lvl
The theory of everything is and will forever be one of my favourite films. But, Eddie's performance in the danish girl was the best of any actor I've seen in a long time. An oscar for this in my opinion would have been extremely well deserved (even if meant Leo losing his 6th nomination)
Well said i thought i was the only one who shared such sentiments , i really truly do feel as if he was robbed of such an achievement.
I love Leo. He deserved Oscars in Wolf of Wall Street. but Eddie deserves to win the title in Danish Girl.
I the Leonardo DiCaprio was in wolf of wall Street
He is adorable. His voice rocks me, it's like the sweetest candy in the world
Honestly, Eddie should have won the oscar for best male actor for his performance in "The Danish Girl". It was absolutly incredible. This man is a genius.
Don't get me wrong, Leo is a great actor and he deserved to finally take home an oscar. But I gotta say, "The Revenant" wasn't his very best performance. In my opinion he should've won for his role in "The Wolf of Wall Street" back in 2014. I feel like the Academy just gave him the award for "The Revenant" because he had been nominated so many times already and it was about time.
But again, in 2016 it should've been Eddie once again winning the oscar. #nohate
Such a wonderfully humble actor:) Unaffected little gem.
I watched both The Revenant and The Danish Girl and I think Eddie deserves the Oscar even though he won one last year. His performance was better than Leo's (Leo was excellent too though)
He deserved an Oscar, GREAT performance...
I hope he gets more oscars in the future! He's very well deserving of it.
What a babe :) Beautiful and ridiculously talented. His greatest charm is his modesty
Eddie Redmayne existing is a gift.
QueenSophie Stylinson love your icon
I've never cried so much in the cinema as I did watching this film. My friend and I just couldn't hold it together and neither could the entire audience.
Alice Goldenvalley luckily I was at home locked in my bathroom when I watched it on my iPad so I could sit next to the radiator and no one could see it hear me when I burst into tears.
Unassuming, humble, sweet man...go Eddie!
Oh my god he's so cute and hot at the same omg
That clip was intense man...
I love how he doesn't just play the character by reading the script, but everytime he gets a role, he analizes it, understand it, educates himself and respect it. He is what I look for in an actor when I watch a movie: passion and knowledge. I really hope he keeps on doing such a good job in the future, he's really talented. Definetely my second favorite actor ever (just after Benedict Cumberbatch)
I have to say, I really didn't know what to expect when I heard about this movie, but once I finally saw it, I was absolutely blown away by the incredible talent of the cast, and how great this movie really was, even though I have no idea what it feels like to be transgendered. From what I've heard over the years, most of the people who have these strong urges to be the opposite sex, have had them for as long as they could remember. It's also one of, if not the strongest feelings they have about anything, and the feelings only intensify as they age. That must be horrible to have to deal with that for their entire life if they didn't have the courage to go through with the transition due to worries about ruining their life, losing their family, losing their friends, losing their jobs, harassment, etc etc... There are so many transgendered people in that predicament.
The other reasons I'm sure a lot of transgendered people can't, or wont go through with transitioning would surely have to be about money, and also how manly they currently look knowing they'd still have manly features even after the surgeries. I know it's certainly not cheap to fully transition into a woman, or vice versa. I feel so bad for them and what they have to go through. People really are cold, and heartless. I would never ridicule someone for being transgendered. They really can't help it from what I've heard and read about over the years. I still wouldn't ridicule them even if they could help it. I was raised to be a caring person with a warm heart who would never mentally or physically hurt another human being, unless I was defending myself or my family. I certainly wouldn't hurt another person just because they are different than I am. Cruel people who do stuff like that have ice in their veins. I wish they could feel what these transgendered people feel for even one week! Maybe then they'd understand? Unlikely though with how shallow most of them are. If you're against it, fine, that's your right. Just don't try to destroy their lives just because you're not transgendered and don't understand what they're going through. It's not like their being transgendered is hurting you or anything, but you're definitely hurting them by mentally and physically abusing them. I don't know, I just can't comprehend that kind of cruelty.
Love to hear it! But pleased don’t use “transgendered” to describe us. It’s isn’t a word, it’s incorrect grammar. We much prefer you say transgender people or Trans people. Please don’t use “transgendered” because it sounds like someone did something to us to make us this way. Plus Gendered isn’t a word either. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk
So impressive. Eddie Redmayne is a fabulous actor.
Eddie was way too intellectually overdressed for this interview! I actually cringed while watching this!! Matt Lauer, you're interviewing one of our great and upcoming actors like he is a halfwit pop star who only cares about "awards and fame". *Shaking my head*
CurlyPie 9 so true!
Saw The Danish Girl, amazing film. ER is an incredibly humble, intelligent and gifted man. Really hope he receives the Oscar. He fully earned it with this role.
Who knew that in 1920's there were Trans women or men?? I think it's something that wasn't talked about back then. I love Eddie's acting, so I'm sure I will enjoy this movie as well. He put his heart into last years move. It was awesome!
+J G If you search for trans wayyyyy back when, you will find that we always existed all over the world.
+Dani Rican I think he meant trans ( men and women ) who got to transition through surgery, because the procedure is really risky ( or so it seems )
dark heart ooops my bad lol
exactly thats what I found so interesting about this movie
All due respect, since Einar was intersex (too), does one still then define themselves as transgender? I'm genuinely asking :).
Look, I am *fully aware* that this film is "Oscar bait"...I didn't care. I bought it, hook, line, and sinker. I *loved* this film.
Some of the directing is pretentious and quite showy, "look-at-me, look-at-me" and the script is pretty cliquéd when it comes to a biopic.
However, the acting is phenomenal, the cinematography is beautiful, the production and costume designs are exquisite, and the score is *so* wonderful and haunting by Desplat (one of *the* best film composers of this generation and one of my favorites).
I get it. It's Oscar bait. This is one of those rare times where I just connected to it. Sorry, but I couldn't help myself. 4 1/2 stars
wow he can really be both
I've followed his career pretty closely ..... always loved him. Always new he has something
It must be something to have a conversation with him...on just anything...he comes off as a very depthful person....reading, listening or playing music
The interviewer always talks over the actor, and they are always about oscars and prizes and fame ,when all most actors just love acting and they don’t want anything from it ,but if you want to watch an interview where the actor speaks more about the experiences then I would recommend, The Graham Norton Show
He is very smart. Elegant, classy gentleman.
One of my favorite actors , he is great in every role he takes.
We can clearly see Eddie's disappointment towards all these situations where people keep talking about the Oscar. If you've seen him since his very first roles, you know how humble and passionate he is about his job. Stop talking about prizes, he's making art, for fuck's sake !
Thers no comparation between DiCaprio and Redmaynes, is sad that Leo will may get an Oscar just cause he dont have one, like does he need it? What will change? NOTHING, meanwhile Eddie deserves the Oscar cause his role in TDG was stunning.
He should have won the Oscar! He was amazing in this movie.
He was incredible in this one
I am usually not a cryer after watch a movie. But this one did me in. Just got done watching with tears in the end. Great actor!
This movie made me cry. I really felt for Alicia Vikander's character, she loved her husband/Lili so much. Eddie was excellent but Alicia stole the spotlight. She deserved that Oscar.
Settecieli77 Nahh.
Matt Lauer is just GROSS in this interview. An "embarrassment of riches?!" Really, Matt? This project took 15 years to make. Let the man talk and LISTEN. Don't push your own agenda. GROSS. Makes me NEVER want to watch you interview ANYONE again.
+Dani V He's always gross.
+Priscilla Silva I never watch the today show. I just happened across this interview and was appalled. But to Eddy's credit, it was the epitotme of class and tactic. Neither of which, Matt Lauer has.
+Dani V No wonder Tom Cruise once slapped him in the face when he interviewed years ago
Truly. This man REEKS of arrogance. I wanted to slap him myself!
he's so tramsformative... I love him!
i always love his acting!! he deseves all the awards😍😍
If you look back in time, most every Oscar-winning actor wins after playing roles such as this...someone real who has defined history by their genre, etc. Cate Blanchett said it best last year when presenting the Best Actor in a Lead Role when she said, " When faces you've seen countless times become strangers again. When you're afraid to so much as blink, lest you miss a single moment, that's when you know you're witnessing an extraordinary performance."
I feel sorry for Leo.
tell me about it. tough crowd every time. .
don't worry fam
I bet you don't now
I didn't like the movie but i can't stop watching it because it's Eddie Redmayne!!!
oh my god his acting in the theory of everything was so good for a good chunk of the movie i believed it really WAS stephen hawking and i was so confused like no it can't be... BUT IT IS... but i can't be... BUT IT IS ?????
yeah i have a realllllyyy big crush on him hes awesome
Yicele Graces Same 😍😍🤤But he’s taken 😭
every time i see him too he just looks so soooooo handsome
Amazing actor
Everyone continues to bring up the point that he's going to win an Oscar for this performance. But it is really aggravating that they're ignoring the character he is playing is a transgender women. What he is doing isn't brave, until he uses this to role address the lack of acceptance for transgender people in America and become an advocate for transgender youth. It angers me how people are so focused on the fact that this cis-gender and is going to use a minority for success.
3:32 I thought he was about to say “when I was pregnant”
HOW DID HE NOT WIN FOR THIS ONE UGHHH
he needs to play dorian gray when and if they make another film- the dude is beautiful
we are going to get " The Danish Girl " in Germany on the 7th of January, 2016 ! 😀
This movie, The Danish Girl is a beautiful movie. I loved it when i saw it. Since the first time seeing it, ive watched it over and over. Its a must see!
sad to see a part taken fron a real transgender woman but we can all agree Eddie is brilliant.
it is unfortunate that there are so few roles for trans actresses, but this character spends a lot of time presenting as a male. i don't think there are a lot of professional trans actresses who haven't transitioned.
true. but i disagree a bit with you on the end. I'm sure there are pleanty of pre and post transitioned trans actresses
It looks like he has some kind skin condition but is somehow really attractive 😍
I thinks it's his smile... and also, I think he turnes red when ashamed. There's a late show clip where he turnes purple of shame when they show old videos of him.
RandomGus it's just freckles :)
revolcona can you tell me which show and episode it was?
I think it's just his large amount of freckles being only partially hidden under makeup xP

Love that he's using the correct pronouns throughout the whole interview
Im sorry I don't like Matt Laurer but I love this great actor.
his voice is perfect
He's portrayal of Lili in the movie Danish Girl, I guess it's more way better and so brilliant than Leo's The Revenant.
He's a class act. So proud of him and his journey to success. Well deserved
I love him so much. He is a wonderful, humble person who deserves every wonderful role and award that comes his way.
Please, is there anyone could make a subtitle what Eddie said between 1:26 and 1:35? He spoke to fast and I can't hear the words.
Many thanks if someone could help me with this
One more time Eddie is amazing and he puts the rest of the cast in his pocket. Of all the others nominees there's no other actor as talented and none of them did a better performancce. He deserves to win every award and I'm sure he''ll be remembered as one of the best actors in history. Go Eddie, you're AWSOME !
such a talented and beautiful soul
Absolutely love Eddie Redmayne! Saw him first on Pillars of the Earth. I've been a fan ever since.
I really love this movie, it's so powerful and emotional. The script uses so much emotion and the actors, especially Alicia and Eddie captured it so well. One of my favourite scenes in the film is the seen shown at 0:20. "I need to hold my husband" really sends chills up my spine it's so powerful. I love this so much. 🙌🏾♥️💕💕 #theithink
My favorite actor these days. My wife and I "discovered" Eddie several movies ago, however, so not surprised at all by his success. The man can flat out act!
Wow the Danish girl marvels movie the way the this story was portrayed between husband and wife was superb amazingly done. Eddie did superb acting marvels performance outstanding it was extrodinary the th4 beautiful wife she was stunning the setting was beautifully done the characters were decent. Wow I just watched it in national tv and I cried well done the the wife amazing actors I watched this movie till the end and I was hooked on the screen a good looking Eddie and the wife what an amazing performance luvd it. I luv how it was screened the costumes the paintings wow stunning and the wife she was so beautiful. She was a strong character in the movie too.
He has the most beautiful smile! 😍
So, I’ve never watched Eddie in other films other than the danish girl. I thought his voice in the film was his normal speaking voice. His voice is so much deeper, I’m shook.
I wish he was my brother😂
Can we just appreciate how he cares more about the character and the story than the award and money?
I watched this movie at the cinema last week, and it was pure perfection... he was absolutely amazing, I cried like a baby
I cannot think of any other actor who could play a transgender! I just saw it last night & it was good! Amazing acting Eddie!!
Evelyn Huerta it's 'a transgender person' btw. transgender is an adjective. sorry to be the grammar police, thought i should say since 'a transgender' can be pretty dehumanising
I came here because he was a voice for Thomas and friends
Sodor legend of the lost treasure
Excellent Movie ! So glad it's out everywhere now !!! Xo
I saw the film yesterday, and I don't see how anybody can beat him, but to be fair I haven't seen the Revenant.
Leo head to head with Eddie, have a good feeling that this will be back to back win for Eddie......fingers crossed
Wow. I saw this movie on a buss on my way to Mexico city and it was amazing. Its was in Spanish and now i would like to see it in English. My little brother who is 16 thought it was a wider movie but said it was a really good.
One of the best movies of all time.
I can't believe he is gone😔😔😔
Eddie Redmayne is enlightening, loved his insight into all the heartfelt conversations shared with trans women before filming this role... and does really well with an annoying interviewer who cannot get off the "rah-rah" of joining those who have won 2 Oscar statuettes.
Eddie, you are ab amazing man. Not just because of how you act, because of who you are.
the first movie I saw him in was Hick.. and I still love him, I told my mom to watch it and she can't look at him anymore because of the role he had (first time she's seen him too)
Sarcasm yeah some people have to realize that the actor is just playing a character not real life, I not only admire Eddie for his goods looks, but I also admire him for his acting abilities, it's just amazing how he can adapt to such a different role that counteracts his personality in real life, a woman, a really thick country accented psychopath, I swear, he can do it all
An incredible actor!
Wow I love he still wears those shoes!
I was blown away by his job... Well done!
one of the best movies I ever watched...loved it
Best actor in all over the world lots of love from India.
