    I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this already, but one of my favorite character progression visuals and costume design decisions was the styling of Sansa's hair throughout the seasons. In the beginning it was sort of loose but mainly styled like her mother's. When she moves to Kings Landing she starts wearing it like Cersi (like a real southern lady, as her nanny mentioned), sort of back to northern styles once her travels with Littlefinger were finished and she was back in Winterfell, then like Dany with the braids, and then at the very end it was completely down and free as she was no longer being influenced by other women and had come into her own power

    I am at peace with the endgame. It was sadly impossibly rushed. Jon got the happiest possible ending. His ‘punishment’ is bogus, there is no Night’s Watch left, he is going to roam free beyond the Wall and lead what is left of the Wildlings with his buddy Tormund and Ghost at his side. He never wanted the Throne.

      Arya got it best. That show hopefully won’t suck and she is actually smiling , Jon is still sulking even in the North and we all know it. The only thing good this horrible ending did was get the hardcore into the rest of the lore and theories and books… the only thing.

    It was the wall at Eastwatch by the Sea that was breached by the Night King and army of the dead. Jon met Tormund and the others at Castle Black, which was still intact. The exile of Jon to the Night's Watch seems to have been a technical "bookkeeping" move, made with a wink and a nod, knowing that Jon would almost certainly simply join the Free Folk and live in the True North. With the defeat of the Night King and his generals, the true purpose of the Night's Watch was no longer needed.

But actually there was still much I liked in the last season and I cried at least as much as you when watching it the first time.
    I find the quote of Maester Aemon is so beautiful. In that scene he said to Jon, "If the day should ever come, when your father was forced to choose between on honor on the one hand and those he loves on teh other, what would he do?" and Jon said "he would do whatever is right." Jon is his son, even if not in blood.

    Imo Bran doesn’t say that as like “oh yea I want to be king”. I think he just had a good idea through the sight he has that he was needed to be king. That the ruler had to be someone that didn’t want it, and he has access to all the things people have said. He has heard the convos Varys and Tyrion had etc, so he knew what was probably coming and the way he now speaks is quite blunt so that’s just how it came out.

    • @LippsReacts
      @LippsReacts  28 днів тому +3

      i think you're right. It doesn't happen as much as you'd expect but sometimes when I edit the reaction I have 180'd on my thoughts. And while reflecting I think I personally just don't think Brans character arc was one I got to connect with during the first watch. Is that the shows fault or my fault, idk. But that lack of knowing who he is while i've had so many moments with other characters to know their flaws and love them in spite of their flaws made Bran seem like a bad choice. But I am coming around to it more.

      @@LippsReacts Bran accepted being King because it was his duty, he knew he would be the best choice. When Tommen became king, Tywin questioned him. "What makes a good king? Wisdom makes a good king." That is what the three eyed Raven/Bran has.

    • @MariaPetrescu
      @MariaPetrescu 24 дні тому

      @@raymondgraber9629 Absolutely yes. He takes it as fulfilling a duty, being a servant to the realm, truly: he doesn't say yes because he's power hungry, which makes him an ideal choice. He also is the wisest being in the world, and also the most a-political one. While all the other players were in some way or another involved in the wars, he was out of all that. There was no grudge against him from any side, which ensures that his election won't be followed by more conflict.
      In the end Bran was the best choice for the realm. For the people, to start a long period of stability, peace, prosperity. That's what the people need, not more disagreement and destruction.

    • @BTGSyphon
      @BTGSyphon 22 дні тому

      @@LippsReacts yea I think one mistake they made was having that full season or so where they didn’t show you Bran at all. If they were gonna make him King and they wanted people to be happy with it then they needed to show more of Bran to make people really fall in love with his character. It also doesn’t help that the way he is in the end seems cold, it’s like Meera Reed says, Bran sort of died in that cave when he became the Three Eyed Raven. In doing so though he transcended into something even more important and impressive than a King. Missing a good chunk of time spent with him probably made a big difference on how people felt at the end of the show. Everyone was either routing for Jon or Dany, when throughout the show there was always way more than just them. The books show this as they have chapters named as the characters names. I haven’t read all the books so maybe the show runners just didn’t think they could make enough interesting content with Bran so they had to cut a season from him, and in the end a rewatch of the early seasons will remind people just how great a character Bran was and how fitting it is that he ended up king. I remember after the red wedding thinking “omg Rob is gone, who the heck is gonna be king now” and really having to think of all the characters and I thought it would be fun with my gf at the time if we made a prediction of who ends up on the throne. I predicted Bran. By the end of the show I probably wanted it to be Jon, or Tyrion. But tbh I was happy with the ending, after a day or so to reflect.
      This show took up a huge chunk of a lot of our lives as it was 8 seasons, I think it’s important to realise that a lot of us wanted a happy ending and that the manner of the show was that we might not get one. Overall, I think we got one.

    • @BTGSyphon
      @BTGSyphon 22 дні тому +2

      @@raymondgraber9629 100%. I think that convo with Tommen and Tywin was one where we were really meant to pay attention and in the end even this shows that even Tywin thinks Bran is the perfect choice. I also think that George chose this as the ending because this is truly breaking the wheel. Jon was worthy of it because he had people that would follow him even though they thought he was a bastard, but in the end he would have gotten it through the Targaryen name alone. Naming Bran as king truly broke the wheel as Tyrion says.

    No they didn't rebuild the wall that fast. Jon crossed under the wall at Castle Black. It was East Watch castle's section of wall that took the damage, it was only the part of wall that connected to the ocean that fell and pulled down enough to make a passage for the undead army. The rest of the wall remained untouched.

    The jackass and honeycomb comment was a throwback to season 1 when Lady Catelyn took Tyrion to the Eyrie, her sister, and he was confessing his 'sins'. That little bit of Banter at the end could have promised another round of an interesting makeup of the new order.

    The three plot points George gave Dan and Dave were Hodor, the burning of Shireen, and Bran on the throne. Obviously they could happen differently but this was George's end game.

    The main reason I'm okay with the ending, conceptually anyway, is because Bran's whole thing makes sense to me. Although we never see anything like it play out again, that scene where he makes history happen by "creating" Hodor in the past all but "confirms" that anything people perceive as divine or godly is, and always has been, Bran arranging people and events to both a) destroy the White Walkers and b) become King.
    If you watch all his scenes back to back, it becomes very clear that Bran withholds information with the intent of manipulating others. For one, he never tells anybody that he can see visions of the future, and we know he's been seeing a dragon fly over King's Landing since season 4. Even the origin of various religions - the Lord of Light, the Seven, the Drowned God - all of which combine into the "Many-Faced God" of Death, operate involving prophetic "visions" and life after/against death. And although we never understand how the Faceless Men operate, or why they let Arya go, maybe things were arranged in such a way where Bran had Arya fulfilling a contract under the guise of the Many-Faced God himself.

    In the visions she was shown at the House of the Undying, Dany saw the throne room in ruins, with what appeared to be snow falling... it turned out to be ashes. Only this time, unlike in the vision, her hand continued and grasped the knob on the arm of the throne. Never did sit the throne though...
    And in Bran's weirwood visions, he saw the shadow of a large dragon flying over King's Landing, just as he saw the wildfire explosion in the tunnels below the sept.

    Ahh, the end of an era! Thanks for the beautiful journey, Lipps - you are a fab reactor, and when you laugh or cry you make me laugh and cry with you 😍
    Regarding Bran - we have to remember that the dragon pit scene is a few weeks after the events at King's Landing (Tyrion said he'd been imprisoned for that long), so I'm not convinced we can hold Bran responsible for "knowing what was going to happen and letting it happen anyway, so he could be king" (not quoting you, it's what I've read other people saying). His visions of the future were never set in stone (because they can't be, the future hasn't yet happened), nor as clear and detailed as those of the past/present. We only saw one brief vision of a dragon flying over King's Landing, which could have signified nothing more than that. I agree it was a bit of a cheesy line, but I'm just not convinced it gives Bran any sort of 'dark intention' or ulterior motive vibes? 🤔
    And as for him being king ... if not him, then who? Drogon had the best idea, the throne itself was a symbol of too much desire for power and needed to be destroyed; the ultimate symbol of the wheel Danaerys said she wanted to break (yet she still craved it). As Varys had previously said, someone who didn't want to rule might be the best person to rule! Someone with the knowledge of all the mistakes and bad decisions previous rulers had made, who has no desire for power, who has seen both the good and the bad in people, and has no personal agenda ... I can't think of anyone better, to be honest! 😁👍

    When this season was airing we kept hearing about leaks, and some of them turned out to be true but a lot were fake. So the day before this episode aired, I saw a leak that said Bran would be crowned king and I laughed so hard, thinking I saw an epic fake leak. When Tyrion said "Stories", I realized where this was going and literally stood up and left the room. I'm not sure what I find more infuriating, every single leader of every single major house agreeing to a Stark child with no experience ruling being king (with no arguments!) or Yara Greyjoy and the new Prince of Dorne not yelling "Yeah, me too!" after Sansa just states that the North will be independent. I'm sure if this happens in the book, it'll have a lead-up that makes sense, but the showrunners just wanted to wrap things up quickly here so they decided to just have everyone agree with everything

    Thank you for your reactions. You did well. I quite liked the way they tied up everyone's stories. I don't know if it will happen but word is they are working on a sequel with Arya's journeys to the west. GRRM was a producer on the show and I"m pretty sure he told them the general idea of how it would end. I suspect he never bothered to finish the books because so many people on social media crapped on the show's ending that he didn't want to work hard and still receive the same crap about his books.

    I don't necessarily dislike how it ended, but the writing and direction felt messy and rushed. I think if they had done a whole final season, or maybe even one more season, to really help bring us where it was going to go, to develop the character's final arcs and motivations better, i think that would have been better.

    In TV and the movies, there are really only a few examples of dragons done right.... Game of Thrones and Dragonslayer (1981). I am sure that others have already told you that some of the actors involved in the final episode, were reduced to tears at table reads and Kit had to go into therapy for what Jon Snow... Aegon Targaryen did to Daenerys at the end of her "reign"! It was truly an emotional high spot, in that your level of emotion, whether it was anger, happiness, sadness, or shock, was pretty high! That is exactly why it is not "stupid" to cry. As for the story, I think it would have been better for everyone if Daenerys had Drogon burn Cersei, Qyburn, and the Mountain at the gate right when they killed Missandei. It would have given a better vindication of when she says Dracarys as her last word. Not as many people would have died, and the Red Keep and the Iron Throne would still be around. Also, I agree with you that perhaps Bran should not have been selected as King. I also think that Jon would have been beheaded or hung by the Unsullied. Whoever is king, I think Bran should have gone to the same tree as the previous 3-eyed Raven. There are no weirwood trees where he is at and it would be fitting for him to be connected to the roots of the world. (Recall that he had to do that to have visions when he was still with Meera.) Who should have been king/queen then, if not Bran? Easy... Gendry. He was a Baratheon, he was a peasant (can relate to the needs of the common folk) and now he is a knight! Can you think of a better choice? Oh! and Sansa should still rule in the North!

      @@LippsReacts I mean if you go from the beginning of the show- she had no agency, no power, nothing. Subjected to the abuses of her brother and sold to another for her brother's quest for power. What power she had with the Dothraki was through Drogo.
      She was ultimately someone who was abused and sold, and made best of her circumstances as she could and then after s1 finale, found power through her dragons. By the time s7/s8 rolls around, of course she doesn't want to share power. She went from having nothing and being abused, to having power. She struggled to learn how to lead, but because of her exile she didn't get the education she needed to learn how to properly lead.
      I remember the Daenerys from s3 on Walk of Punishment "Blood of my enemies, not the blood of innocents."
      I also don't see what she did in The Bells as insanity- or madness. She was angry and grieving, and she had a powerful weapon at her disposal and if anything, that's not a good combination. She went from being the person that wanted to save innocents to killing innocents. S3 Dany would be horrified of what she became.
      Also the books aren't finished, so who knows what her fate ultimately is. Emilia Clarke suffered two brain aneurysms during the filming of GOT and used the inspiration of her character she played as a way to help herself get healthy and strong again, and she was reported at not being happy at all with the direction of what was going on with Dany. Then again no one in the cast was reported to have been very happy
      Sorry for the long response.

    I kept following you to see your reaction to the finale. I was disappointed in your reaction heres why. You never ever mention the biggest problem with this last season and instead somehow manage to normalize it as ...it is what it is. I read all of the books twice and watched the full series. The reason why we all were so disgusted by the last season is that the screen writers COMPLETELY departed from the original arc of all of the characters which had been built over many seasons ! This completely gutted and destroyed the many years of character building to a point that they seemed not even to be the same characters. All of that work in building them was just shredded so that the directors could move on to Star Wars. They destroyed all of the character arches to make a quick ending and exit. They were rewarded for this stupidity in not handling the Star Wars project. If you cant repect one legendary storyline how can you be trusted with another. Im disappointed that you did not align with millions of fans in recognizing the exact same thing. This reminds me of when Jodie Foster was asked to return to the role of Clarice from Silence of the lambs. She responded that she was familiar with the script and had no desire to return to the screen to completely destroy the arch of the character that she had worked so hard to build in the original movie. Im calling you out for not calling this out as most of us did. Even the actors were disgusted with the annihilation of the story lines and character arches.

    I think Jon knew what he had to do but he needed to hear what Dany had to say first. Once he spoke to her, heard her out and saw that she really had no remorse about what she did, it was clear to him. He’s basically pleading with Dany to make some sense but Jon could see in her eyes that she was too far gone. He knew she had to die and it destroyed him to have to kill her. He totally believed she was different but Dany betrayed them all.

      @LippsReacts Well, firstly, because it's now inherently broken the tradition of how a ruler is chosen in Westeros because he can't have children and there's nobody to pass the crown onto in the bloodline. But mostly because of the reason I gave that he is really the only choice on how to move forward after all that's happened. It's one thing to set Maesters to the task of reading old scrolls on accountings of how to rebuild. It's quite another for him to go watch the conversations and processes in all past civilizations. Both their triumphs and failures. So he'll best know how to allocate resources from this point of disaster.
