    You have to do
    A diesel heater fitting episode
A solar panel and charge control install
If you want to get involved Chris could put in a lithium battery and make it 240v internal off grid through an inverter
    Change all lights to leds
Change the fridge to a compressor
This will increase your followers van life and motor home conversions is massive at moment
If you make it completely off grid it adds thousands to value.
And before you think it’s going to cost the earth a diesel heater is from £80 a solar panel kit with everything is from £150 the led lights say £150 for all of them, lithium from £500 inverter from £200 solar compressor fridge £700 for a direct replacement for what’s fitted.

That's a Mk1 Boxer, and I've had one as a camper for 27 years so know a fair bit about them. Mine was a 2.0 petrol (rather than a 2.5TDi) although I did convert mine to 2.0HDi a decade back. Observations:
First, the bonnet grill (with that style of Peugeot badge on it) is from a Mk1 facelift so I suspect that's new post-collision.
Second, Mk1 Boxers suffered from water ingress into the gearbox. Essentially there's a drain from the heater plenum which, in the first units, dumped water straight onto the top of the gearbox. Best is to fit the later drain hose which directs water below the level of the gearbox. Also drain and refill the gearbox oil, checking for signs of water. Your van with an over-cab bed will not have had the regular deluge down the windscreen that, say, a panel van conversion gets, but it's worth checking all the same. At Mk2 (2002 - 2006) the configuration was much improved but water ingress wasn't completely eliminated. Note that Mk1s also suffered from rain water contamination of the vehicle battery if the cell vents were uppermost. Less of an issue with the more modern batteries but wet battery tops are seldom a good idea.
The Electrolux fridges are three way - 12V/240Vac/gas - but, with age, the burner corrodes blocking the gas jet. Also the flue sheds corrosion which then falls onto the burner making it difficult to light. Best is to draw out the fridge and take a peek, or remove the lower of the exterior grills. Bear in mind that, officially, you need to be 'gas-safe' qualified to work on these fridges.
Terminology-wise it isn't 'black water'. Instead, sink waste is generally referred to as 'grey' whereas that from the toilet is. not surprisingly, 'brown water'!
The Carver water heater heats up 4 - 5 litres of water in its reservoir so don't expect instant heat or lashings of water for a long shower. There's a drain plug on the lower left outside which is prone to leaking.
One of the strip lights - the one which didn't work - is probably 240Vac for use when on mains hook-up. That said I couldn't see the blue three pin IEC 16A socket on the outside of the van, but I'm sure it will be there somewhere.
Check for wear/failure of strut top bearings. In the early vans these were not so robust: another improvement at Mk2.
I'd flush the brake fluid: mine was contaminated from new and I had all manner of issues: BMC failure, brake compensator valve failure etc.
    Good luck!

Nice video lads. Don’t carpet the interior. I used to work for a camper conversion company, we used to do the floor wood effect 5 mm thick Lino. It makes for easier cleaning. The new owner can always puts narrow rug runner in if needed.

Mats are better than carpet. With a carpet you need to take a hoover to clean it. Nice camper, just needs some work. Replace as many lamps with LED lights. Get any gas systems checked out as seals can go hard after 5 years

    Hello chaps
Great work. I have a similar style motorhome. I changed the carpet to lino only for cleaning because when you go away it's a lot easier to clean.
To detail the motorhome part used a mild compound Maguires 300, comes up a treat.
For the water underneath the sink should be filter that would be worth changing.
    Many Regards

Nice little project. Just a tip from my experience, take the battery out and check the wheel arch to bulkhead area. Very prone to rust... Amd with the cold water tank, undo the red cap and look in the bottom. Some of them have a little plug on a chain that allows you to drain the tank. Also near the water tank there will be a screw valve that you need to play with to stop the pump from constantly running. Loads of youtube videos on setting the pressure.

  • @zilspeed
    @zilspeed 2 роки тому +5

There should be a pressure sensor in the water system so the pump only runs when you open a tap and pressure drops. If the pump keeps running, there's maybe a little issue there.
Same age and base vehicle as our Autosleepers Van :-)

Sorry guys but not being rude as I've been a motorhomes for over 30 years but, there is no such thing as brown water, it's classed as grey water and that depicts sink or shower waste. Black waste is the toilet and you won't find many British or European vans with a black water outlet as you have the cassette instead. Black water is relative to American R V's that have a hose to attach to the outlet and discharge into a waste point on sites.or manhole where available.
Keep up the good work lads. Really enjoy your videos which give me a great sense of satisfaction seeing you keep all these old girls on the road for others pleasure. Well done guys

  • @chrisrogers2848
    @chrisrogers2848 2 роки тому +3

You need to put that polystyrene jacket back around the hot water heater - that tank will get dangerously hot to the touch when the heater is on otherwise. Also the pump should stop running when the tap is off - there will be a pressure switch somewhere in the water piping near the fresh water tank that needs adjusting.

Hi rob when you fire up the cooker don’t lower the glass screen over the top as it sometimes cracks the glass due to the heat. Nice van try getting a butane gas bottle the blue one. The blue ones work well in the summer and the orange bottles are propane and work well in the winter if being used in a tent but as the bottle is in the van you could get away with a blue bottle they have a new regulator as the blue ones have been changed. I agree rob a light coloured carpet would brighten up the van. work a treat.

  • @adammcallister2260
    @adammcallister2260 2 роки тому

100% carpet. Much warmer on a chilly morning under foot.
Little tip, if you’re replacing those CFL bulbs in the ceiling, get the LED equivalents. They’re not much more expensive to buy, more durable, more light, easy selling point for the new owner and saves a few watts on the battery. No modifications needed, plug them in and off you go. I think the fitting you’re looking for is “G24”. Just check the number of gold pins on the bulb.
Top work, love these types of vans. I’m sure it’ll look better after a good wash and some back to black on the plastics. That grey strip at the bottom would look better in black too, IMO but perhaps a bit beyond the scope of this project.

The grin on both your faces at the end was priceless! A good clean up will do fine. Don't carpet the floors, they get dirty beyond cleening in a day. A set of new tyres may be needed, they must be old. Cambelt with accesories on the to do list and a oil and filter service. Nice one, Rob.

Check it's got the right tyres on it, loads of people put ordinary commercial tyres on these things because they don't know any better. Should have proper motorhome tyres that can handle the rated tyre pressures which can be over 70psi on this style motorhome, they effectively run at, or close to, their maximum weight pretty much all the time.

Rob, please don`t buy permanent fitted carpet = flooring gets messy too quickly with camping and is hard to keep clean - either new lino flooring and/or just buy some loose carpets (easier to clean) with gripping on the back - also, think about buying a re-fillerable LPG gas bottle, because in mainland europe you can`t buy Calor gas type bottles if you run out - have you emptied the toilet cassette? - also the gas system needs checking and issued with a gas certificate by some gas engineer qualified in the leisure vehicle accommodation field - also given the vehicle is nearing 30 years old, I would check all fuel hoses for perishing.

Washing water from sink and shower is Grey water, Black waste is toilet but it has a cassette so no tank. The two pin plug next to the aerial socket is 12v off the leisure battery, charges up when driving or when plugged into the mains. Hot water will be dual fuel, gas/mains electric/both. Fridge will be mains or gas or 12v when in the move.
Put Puriclean through the water system, never bleach or Milton's.

If the seller as a locksmith it's a shame he didn't fix those locks. Don't tell Chris but there's a penny in the sink in the wash cubicle. Shame we didn't see under the bonnet - I guess we'll see in the next video. If those are the original clear cushion covers it hasn't had much use.

Remarkably free of bodywork damage for its age. You should be able to buy from Magnum Motorhomes or O'Leary Motorhomes a 8x4 foot sheet of Light Oak faced 3.5mm plywood to overpanel the damaged panel where the telly was half-inched. Hide the panel join facing the gangway with matching corner coving that they also sell. For the floor I'd favour carpet if I wanted to sell it, but lino and rugs for my own use. Chris will probably show us how to use old newspapers to make a template to work out the shape of a new floor covering.

Carpet may be fine for adults but in a camper van where you don't have access to major cleaning tools like vacuum cleaners etc.. These vehicles tend to be used where people go on walks, down the beach and such like, which causes mud and sand to be dragged into the vehicle therefore I reckon lino or tiles are vastly more practical, especially if there are kids involved.

    Hi Rob + Chris
    I've always been told:
Black Water - Toilet water. Contains your pee and poop. Needs special disposal - hence the toilet tank.
Grey Water - From showers, washing up, sinks etc, can be disposed via a soak away....... or used to water trees! Which is why its just a pipe on the outside/
Brown water - A really good ale, that makes you smack your lips when you take your first sip.

British motorhomes seem to be aimed at elderly couples. Two seats and sheltered-housing bungalow decor. We only look at european motorhomes. Much better for families and less depressing to be in.

Yea of course a bit of carpet in there will make it much more cosy. That lino doesn’t look the part at all and it will be colder on your feet. That is a good buy it will be lovely once it’s cleaned up can’t wait to hear the numbers on it once it’s finished.

Nice little camper, boys. I wouldn't put carpet down - a good quality vinyl floor is much easier to keep clean with people going in/out all the time. Maybe a wood plank effect? There's some really good ones out there.

No Carpet in the RV! It collects a sandbox full of dirt, sand, and hair in only one season. Better to have a surface that you can sweep and wash when needed.

I wouldn't put a carpet in as you have to remember it's camper van meaning muddy Park ups etc at least with lino you can mop up. Maybe a small rubber backed rug?

    Score! Replace:
    - all the interior lights with LEDs as it would give it a nice bright modern look.
    - replace lanolin with modern design - carpeting is a “no”
    - redo the old cushion covers
    - assume your doing all the mechanicals / consumables
PS - this rig was a great buy!

I've had caravans for decades , get a custom bound edge fitted carpet for it .
It fits over the existing flooring , but is removable for cleaning. There will be someone near to you that can do one.
    It's a good looking camper.
We use baby bottle sterilising fluid to flush the system.

The drawer cabinet should be removable if it’s anything like a caravan. I’d replace the flooring but with a darker Lino as you’ll find you’ll bring lots of stuff in on your feet and then it’s constantly having to try brushing or hoovering the carpet…. Where you can just use a brush on the Lino. Cracking piece of kit that motorhome is to looks like you’ve hit a home run 👍🏻

    Hi Rob and Chris.
I've got a motorhome the same year, very similar inside,It will clean up perfect, It's charm is it's age.
I cleaned the back half up on mine with cream cleaner,Ciff once I washed off all the grime.
    It works,comes up shiny again.
To brighten up the lighting inside I brought LED strip lights off eBay,Under£10,fitted the lighting under the pelmet below the top cupboards. It looks great in mine at night.
Looking forward to you getting this one finished..
I hope my comments help you get this motorhome all shiny again.

I think a new grey wooden floor effect lino Flooring would be a better option Rob, Carpet would be hard to keep clean with splashes from the sink and cooking, then if you are parked near a beach or dirty off grid site it would all get walked into the carpet,

Looks brilliant! When you were splashing about trying the taps out, My caravan owners head was shouting " dry that water up from the sink surround" !!!! Lol. Carpets...... fit loose removable carpets if you want, but I keep mine clean at home and run sponge waffle flooring down the length of the caravan ( you can buy it by the metre at caravan dealers.) Warm and soft to walks on and easy to lift to clean the floor. I've got 2 dogs and You'd be amazed how much grit and sand gets walked in. Looking forward to the next episode xx

Hi guys - really, really looking forward to this one as a friend of mine bought one of these about 8 or 9 months ago and has had a shed load of very expensive problems with it on things that you absolutely wouldn't expect. He has the exact same Peugeot Boxer based Royale, except that his 'passenger side door entry' is at the back of the van, instead of opposite the drivers door, yours has both.
His electric step wasn't working so we sourced a switch - standard £5 window rocker switch, but it transpired the step had rusted and was seized, he was quoted £600 plus labour to fix it, but ended up having a £350 folding step fitted. He's had to replace all three batteries - that cost him about £500 - obviously that would be less of an issue for yourselves with your trade contacts. He had a cracked front windscreen and was quoted from his insurance company £3 - 5000 pounds, of which he needed to front £1600 or £2k, I can't remember exactly. The electric window on the drivers door stopped working ( seized motor ) and he couldn't get the exact part, so the nearest equivalent was from a '96 model at £440 plus a couple of hours labour to convert the drive. He intends to convert it to a manual winder.
Don't get me wrong, he loves what it does, when it does it.
He's got 4 solar panels on the roof that aren't working properly, that I'm going to be faulting for him soon, whether that's problems with the panels or the inverter the multi meter will be coming out to test them all and the wiring into and out of the inverter. If you got a manual with it, it may well have the name of the coachbuilder or agent - they have been helpful in pointing out details and information.
Very best of luck with this one - hope I haven't come across as negative, but it's been a wallet munching experience for him so far.

    Great stuff & video.
    It's "Grey" waste water.
Legionnaires needs water to be between 20° & 50° for it to be dangerous. Definitely get a Milton tablet in the tank though for the other nasties.
A solar panel to keep the leisure & vehicle battery charged is a well worth exercise. LED lightbulbs save loads of energy so worth swapping the internal bulbs.
I'd also get the gas lines tested plus fit a carbon monoxide alarm if not in already fitted.
Swift/Abbey did a fitted trimmed carpet probably in plum for that motor home. They're are about and the camper magazines have retailers who will have layout on file.
Need a damp meter Rob if you're gonna keep buying campers.
Finally check the silicone camper seals.
Van of that age if not done already may need resealing.
    All the best chaps.

We have owned M/Hs for over 10 years. Recommend you buy (cheaply) a good size off cut from a carpet fitter/shop (they all seem to have them) cut to size & lay that then it can be replaced in a couple of years when it will inevitably have been soiled after parking & repeatedly entering the M/H after walking on wet grass etc. Most of us M/Homers do this even with a new M/H then when the time comes to sell the original & unused manufacturers carpets are re installed for sale.

There's a drain valve right beside the fresh water tank onboard, turn it to drain the old water & your control panel has a single switch for switching between the cabs main battery & the leisure battery also make sure you turn all the hot taps on & bleed them through thoroughly before attempting to use your water heater or your in for an expensive repair guys 👌

    Hi guys
I suggest you think about changing the interior lights to led
And fitting a solar panel or panels on the roof.A very simple job for
Yourselves,it will bring your camper up to date . Even a small panel will maintain battery's when not in use . Thanknyou for for videos I look forward to them every week
    Cheers
