I just got lucky and found this show. Love the fact that Kevin has the nuts to do such a long show. I totally agree with Kevin and Dave about Bob Hope. Can't get enough of this stuff. Kudos, kudos, kudos.
Thanks Kevin and crew for all of these spectacular shows. I'm hooked on binge-listening to them all. Even the ones with guests I don't know of. Or even guests who I disagree with politically blah blah, they're all so entertaining and informative. I seem to know of or about 75% of the guests. Great work guys, cheers from Seattle.
Dave Thomas has been one of the comedians I've respected the most in terms of the depth and quality of his craft. Now after watching this, I also just think he's a great guy.
Dave Thomas' Bob Hope impression si the ONLY one that matters. Rich Little did a Hope impression but it was horrible; Thomas' was immaculate complete with the walk and head tilt.
My dad owned a '56 Caddy ...baby blue ...used to sit in our driveway on Center Street ...I remember looking at that front grill, at 11 years old ...Dave is quite talented, and funny
Dave Thomas not only does a great Bob Hope impression, but really the only Bob Hope impression. Despite Hope being around since the 1930’s, no one, neither Rich Little nor Frank Gorshin nor David Frye nor anyone else had a Bob Hope impression before Dave Thomas!
Will Ferell had "ruined" Christopher Walken's career after the SNL "Don't Feel the Reaper" skit (by Blue Oyster Cult). "We need More Cowbell (Please) !"
1971 Johnny Carson show .. Woody is the guest host interviewing Bob Hope … if I had a chance I’d have asked Moranis or Dave if they saw that and used it as an idea
Dave Thomas, you along w/ the rest of the classic SCTV cast got me through my awkward teenage years. Then you abandoned me. Damn you, Dave Thomas, DAMN YOU!
LOVE Dave Thomas!! Such a treat to have a long interview. The five minutes standard talk show bits aren't even qualified to be called interviews! I remember Carson used to say nobody could do Bob Hope - he clearly never watched SCTV! ;)
I love Dave and I respect his attitude that entertainment shouldn't be an issue of nationalism/flag-waving -- and that all Canadian bleachers face the border. But you'll notice that Great White North was a bit that Thomas and Moranis did when they were their most relaxed, on their own, had a few beer and some back bacon -- and produced something truly authentic and lasting. And okay, "nobody in Canada gives a shit about Canadian culture except a few people in Ottawa." But he talks about getting the call from Winnipeg and there are thousand people cheering for them at the airport -- and in a country where there is no graffiti (there is but that's not the point) Winnipeggers have risked being busted by the Mounties to express "Take off, eh!" My understanding is that Strange Brew did much better in Canada than any market in the states. When the city of Edmonton wanted to pay tribute to "a really uniquely Edmonton thing that became a Canadian hallmark" the artist erected a statue of Bob and Doug McKenzie. ua-cam.com/video/FNyVyuVtick/v-deo.html There is no Canadian Content law in comedy as Kevin seems to believe. There was pressure from the CBC to fill the extra two minutes with something identifiably Canadian, yes, but not mandated by law as radio stations once were to play Canadian musicians like Dave's brother Ian Thomas. I think most of us Canucks, and more than a few other people around the world, are in this case a little grateful for the pressure.
Talking about the sci-fi spoof movie opening of Strange Brew, to this day I think when Dave's character tells Rick's character "Act. Act!" as direction with the camera rolling is the funniest thing ever.
Dave Thomas, the Actor/Comic, is not the same guy that is the CEO for the Wendy's fast-food restaurant chain. Different Countries of Origin (Canada & America/the U.S.); Different Lines of Work (acting/fast food).
Ricky Gervais, oh he was so good at the Golden Globes; bring back Craig Ferguson ! Kevin should interview the "Great White North" co-star, Rick Moranis ("Strange Brew," "Ghostbusters"), if it is (humanly) possible. If not, that's okay. My second choice would be Eugene Levy. Film director: Judd Apatow; Dave Chapelle; maybe these former adult film entertainers: Nina Hartley, Vanessa Del Rio, Annie Sprinkle and Ron Jeremy.
I see that Ivan Reitman passed away February 12, 2022. Interesting I didn't hear about it until 4 months later and that's no doubt because poor old Ivan had been culturally dead for a long time because he hadn't done anything for 25 years. PS, Joe Flaherty was the glue who held SCTV together and deserved a bigger career, it's odd to me that it didn't happen, guess Joe didn't market himself very hard.
@RD2564: you could not be more right about Joe Flaherty OR MORE WRONG about Ivan Reitman !! ( and a real cold creepy way to say it ) I have rewatched Evolution many times, & My Super Ex Girlfriend is WAY better than it's made out to be. Plus he had a whole lot to do with bringing Ghostbusters Afterlife together.
Self-effacing , inventive , trench warrior comedic writer and performer. Used to watch Grace Under Fire just to see him. Enjoy the part about learning comedy history and the bit about , " Frank Gorshin's act is all dead people ."
yeah, and in the future figure out why no one can do any thing like get sponsores, know how to make commercials or post your new movie ads anywhere. Like let me rent a tv station for 50 bucks a week and let me try to start a real tv station like they use to have. Like I cant even find the bob and doug mckenzie cartoon for sale on line.
wow! you get to interview all these people? I'm subscribing! real tv went down the toilet-its no good anymore! unless your a illegal alien! maybe in the future you can rent tv channels? I think our government sucks!
As Bill Needle would say "it's one of THOSE chat shows, where people who like to chat sit around chat endlessly...about chatting..." This must be one of those cheap LaRue Productions! Get Caballero on the phone...Prickley really messed up this time! 0;
Great interview. Might want to skip the 25 minute opening. They're all awful, but this one's worse than usual. Never knew Dave's life history: amazing guy.
Dave Thomas can tell stories all night long and each and every one is fantastic to hear! Loved the show Kevin!
I’m frightened to admit to anyone just how many times I’ve watched Strange Brew. Thank you Dave.
I went to see it in a theatre 4 times in the first 5 nights. Went with a different SCTV fan each night.
@@user-hm5zb1qn6g Nice!
Didn't want this interview to stop. The entire cast of SCTV = genius.
Dave Thomas as Bob Hope is scary uncanny
That kid is wild
Pure gold
Great interview! I love hearing these stories about SCTV's struggles and success.
Dave Thomas is awesome in everything he's in. So cool to see this.
This was terrific-thank you, Kevin.

Watched an SCTV skit (Gerry Todd) and saw this link. Awesome interview! Thanks! I'm so happy to have stumbled on to Kevin's great show!
Dave Thomas has been one of the comedians I've respected the most in terms of the depth and quality of his craft. Now after watching this, I also just think he's a great guy.
Dave Thomas: great stories. Love the guy.
This was fantastic, thanks. Dave has been one of my childhood heroes all my life
lived in same town as Dave in Ontario and played in band with his brother Ian in mid sixties
Dave Thomas' Bob Hope impression si the ONLY one that matters. Rich Little did a Hope impression but it was horrible; Thomas' was immaculate complete with the walk and head tilt.

Terrific interview. Never knew Dave was so weaved into all the big names in Hollywood. And so many great stories.
I'd love to see him interview Rick Moranis (that is if he can get him).
I have read somewhere that someone had punched Louis Tully in the face. Why ?!?
Nice Christopher Walken. LOL "He's Walken!"
Will Ferell had "ruined" Christopher Walken's career after the SNL "Don't Feel the Reaper" skit (by Blue Oyster Cult). "We need More Cowbell (Please) !"
1:37:00 Dave Thomas doing Richard Harris doing MacArthur Park hurts, it's too great.
1971 Johnny Carson show .. Woody is the guest host interviewing Bob Hope … if I had a chance I’d have asked Moranis or Dave if they saw that and used it as an idea
Love SCTV
This is SUPERB.

Coulda done more, Kevin and Dave riffing and stories were great.

Hey, how about that Dave Thomas?
Ain’t he somethin’!
Isn't he wild?
Love the Dave. Really enjoyed my stint at Animax. I could hear another 100 minutes. We still use the arthritis gag from SCTV.
Was that on the last season of SCTV? I missed 98% of the last season being in the military. I have Vol. 1 of the SCTV dvd set - are there more out?
There's tons on youtube
Haven't thought about Marvin Kitman for a minute.

Guest appears at 23:30. An unconscionable delay.
You new?
@@badad0166 😂
Ridiculous
Thank you for clock warning?
Great show.
it always seemed to me that SCTV wasn't trying to do an exact copy it was more of vibe..like Aykroyd dong Carter
okay send me a link immediately to the Burt Lancaster slam bam poetry.
They accidentally predict the ending of Mad Men in this.
The best!
One of the other Dave Thomases ran Carl’s Jr…..into the ground….beef

Kevin Pollack loves to talk about Kevin Pollack.
bowflex probably dropped a few dozen thou on this, and it's only just now cracking the same number of views a decade later

I wish he did the whole interview in a Scottish accent
Kev spoiling Mad Men for himself.
You can hear bob hope in there voices after they've stopped doing the impression.
Is it me or is there a segment of the theme music out of tune.
Always loved Daves comedy but honestly his burgers and frosties need work.
Is that the chick from Supernatural? she sure looks and sounds like her.
Dave Thomas Looks Old But He’s one of the Best Actors and Comedian He’s from the the great white north
I think he looks great for his age

Dave's Kronkite sounds like one of the Muppets and not much like Kronkite actually, not unlike KP's Larry King.
Great interview. Might want to skip the 25 minute opening.
They're all awful, but this one's worse than usual. Never knew Dave's life history: amazing guy.
Get to the point.
