Yeah GRRM said it will never be shown or expanded on. Asshai and the Stygai at the heart of darkness are meant to be a mystery and left as an imposing and dangerous place with no real clue about what's going on there. Especially the Stygai, does some ancient evil live there? Is there a portal to the seven hells itself? We will never know
Well you won’t. It’s specifically shrouded in mystery because it’s so far from any POV char. Remember, GRRM specifically writes in a way that shows any exposition or context is tied to the POV characters biases and ignorance/knowledge. I doubt we will see a POV from Quaithe and the concept Asshai is likely just a simple place of what could be called “heathland” and unconventional culture that is left as what we here due to distance and lack of first hand knowledge: EVEN “Fire and Blood” is WRITTEN FROM A MAESTER- a Targaryen supporter even.
Trust me History Channel is working on it. And if your first reaction to that is "what does that have to do with history?!?!" that's the tagline for the entire channel now.
Fire & Blood revealed a new island chain far west of the Summer Islands - even west of Lonely Light's longitude. Three small uninhabited islands, the largest only a third the size of Dragonstone. The seas between them and other lands were filled with terrible storms (and possibly sea monsters), but the isles themselves were pleasant enough - albeit small. Plenty of clean water, edible fruits and nuts (previously unknown), wild pigs to hunt for food. There were some lizards the size of deer with poisonous bites, but they were pretty slow (think Komodo dragons from real life). There's a moratorium on wiki updates for them until December 20th, however. I don't know if you want to do a future short update video on the Farman expedition.
There's one in pre-production. It's called "Empire of Ash" and deals with the Valyrian Empire shortly before the Doom. Incest, dragons, political struggles for power, lots of different cultures and religions. Nothing's been officially confirmed yet, but there have been leaks.
@@jascrandom9855 They have multiple prequels in different stages of development. Long Night will start filming next year, Empire of Ash is in pre-production (and not officially confirmed yet, but there have been leaks).
Daenerys couldve stayed there and built and iron throne of her own made of chains from slaves she freed from masters instead of going to westeros and getting herself killed in the hand of her nephew.
The vastness of GRRM’s world can be taken advantage of with spinoff shows that happen in Essos. Huge potential, really. I just hope they use it in the future.

You guys are letting your imagination interfere with practical aspects of a program.
I'm a new subscriber, just found the channel yesterday and binged. I really like the way you do these vids. Short and to the point, no clickbait titles, no "theories" that are really just bad fan fiction, just detail info that we probably missed or forgot. Well done.
It' s just my thought. But the way westerossi ot essosi describe far east continent sounds to me more like they don't know much about that region. Like European people in middle age who said that there are dragons in Asia. I think it is possible that there are more great civilizations over the Asshai but they may just don't know about them thus it became some sort of myth.
True... I remember reading "Germania" by the Roman ethnographer Tacitus, which was a compendium of information about the Germanic peoples beyond the northern borders of the Roman Empire. At one point, he gets to the areas beyond the Finns in northeastern Europe (around modern northern Russia) and says the people there are said to be animal-human hybrids, but dismisses it as rumors. The reality is probably that the hunter-gatherer people there wore animal skins to keep warm in the harsh, cold environment, and paired with neighboring peoples considering them uncivilized and savage, the tall tales of "animal people" spread to distort the truth. Maester Yandel makes a similar hypothesis about the scary lizard-men called the Shrykes living beyond Yi Ti's Five Forts - Are they really just humans wearing lizard skins? A lot of these places in the far east of Westeros - Nefer, Mussovy, K'Dath, Carcosa, Bonetown, the Cities of the Bloodless Men, the City of Winged Men, the Shadowlands... They're all described as having necromancers and sorcerers and blood mages and demon hunters. These lands are almost the equivalent of Siberia in our world, though - a vast, bleak landscape beyond the "known world" that, like eastern Essos, no one in the "known world" seems to know or care much about - The ancient Chinese didn't seem interested in determining the northern limits of Asia. We do know that Siberia was and is inhabited by animist tribes, though. What if all the talk about scary wizards beyond the Grey Waste are actually just normal people practicing animism, perhaps with some fantasy magic thrown in, whose mostly harmless shamans have been sensationalized by fearful neighbors who are frightened and appalled by their cultural differences?
I'd love a show about all these crazy things in essos. It's so interesting. Shame George isn't really interested in exploring it more. But i would love to see Leviathan and Ice dragons and crazy things. And city's like Yi ti and places like the Shadowlands, 5 fortresses, and the bones.
I like how the Ibbenese (basically dwarves) and the Children of the Forest/Woodswalkers (basically elves) not only seem to get along for a change from other fantasy, but actually manage to get along despite having never met face to face lol
I always thought Mossovy must be their Fantasy version of Russia. With hardened, isolated woodsmen who are also skinchangers/wargs - loosely analogous to the First Men/Starks of Westeros - who fight off demons who enter from the Grey Waste to the east.
