  • In Uganda, a staggering 28% of the population lacks access to safe water sources, disproportionately affecting women and girls. They bear the burden of fetching water, trekking long distances (up to 10km) daily, carrying heavy loads (up to 20L). This tedious task consumes valuable time, energy, and opportunities, exposing them to physical harm, sexual harassment, and missed education and economic opportunities. The water scarcity also perpetuates gender inequality, reinforcing the gender divide. Urgent action is needed to address this crisis, ensuring equitable access to clean water and empowering women and girls to reach their full potential.
