Neat vid bro, I see things are looking up with your hobby and the infra red camera is neat. Was good to see you catch up with Damon and Austin for a bit of vanping. I have watched their vids on this get together and enjoyed both. Had a giggle about Austin putting his foot in it. Hey all the best.
Brilliant Rick! at least you got out with it and used it for the first time....even though it was cold !. Thoroughly enjoyed the video and look forward to many more :) Pat
Really interesting and funny video Rick. Loved the chit-chat with Austin in his van. Haha. Really looking forward to seeing your Astro-photography. Brilliant stuff.
Great to see you out and enjoying the new hobby, Rick! I still use an old eos 450d for some deep sky shots, alongside dedicated ccd cameras. You might have already found it, but the polar scope illumination intensity should be adjustable in the handset options too. Nice to see a campsite near me which looks promising for astronomy, will have to check it out sometime! Great video :) Cheers, Chris.
Chris H cheers for the tip regarding the illumination of the polar scope, I didn't know that :-). Yes Bracelands seems ideal for stargazing, I'll probably be back there at some point, hopefully when it's warmer :-)
"That's a cracking smudge!" LOL. Entertaining video, thanks for posting. This hobby has taken over my life. Especially Ha solar imaging. Enjoy! I subbed and will keep up with your adventures.
Here in Spain is also so cold that the price of fruit and vegetables have been multiplied by 2 or 3 times because of the hard frosts. It's awful and farmers guess it will be the same for about a month. We have to eat frozen and bad quality food. Nice video Rick, as always. You both are wonderful. I really enjoy your channels I like that funny ending on your videos.
Well Ric I’ve been into astronomy for about six months now I’ve watched an awful lot of videos and a lot of books but I must admit I learnt more watching your half an hour camping video then all that other stuff thanks very much great little video keep it up
Great vid Rick its an interesting subject cant wait to see some through the lense pics when you have sussed it out,.I felt rather cold watching it..hope you get your heater upgraded hehe Cant wait for next vid.
So awesome! looks like a lovely campsite, and so great seeing you out being able to use your telescope. Beautiful shots that Austin took too! Stay warm!
Wonderful to see your enthusiasm and excitement. I've a 127ED on the way and hope to be observing in California this fall after a long hiatus. Best of luck to you.
Looks like you had a great time!! I'm so glad you had at least one clear evening. I'd love to see you incorporate some meal prep in your van if you are up for it. We all love watching your cooking at home videos, I can't imagine we wouldn't enjoy watching camp cooking in the van videos as well. Looking forward to seeing some of those smudges on the telescope
LOL Great very entertaining video Rick. I had a telescope once upon a time. A 4.5 inch Newtonian reflector that I brought from Peter Gilbert in Havelock street. I saw a lot of objects with it but without astro photography the images you see with the naked eye are din and misty. You will get some stunning photo's through the telescope I can assure you of that. I lent my scope to a so called friend and when I asked for it back a while later ( a year or two) he denied he ever had it!! ATB Sandy
One of your best vids yet Rick. I've got to get a better telescope because I find my Celestron Powerseeker a right pain in the backside. When I can align it it's great, but more often than not it's a complete waste of time. Saturn blew me away when I first saw it. And Jupiters moons are an awesome sight.
Really enjoyed this Rick....nice and chilled out, and impressed with the telescope, Sandy had told me he met you in Wickes ...lol....met him myself in Snowdonia here... great video, nice to see Austin too... :-)
really enjoyed this vid rick....love to see you lads on your awaydays. cracking telescope....must be a few grand there, i bet. I was absolutly amazed at the infrared camera you made...absolutly brilliant..please please can yo do a show and tell on it...Keep the vids coming mate....be nice if you could get pics from the scope for us..wow that would be good.....anyway nice to see you all well....i will now go catchup on scudo and nina,,,,channels........ALWAYS GOOD TO HAVE SOMETHING GOOD TO WATCH....Cheers lads.........OH....HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL.
I am watching you guys from Turkey, It's a great size arrangement and two people greatly appreciated eacother idea to come up with, Telescope picture would be greatly appreciated if it was available. Music additions was picked just as good too.
Brill video Rick, gutted I missed all the fun on the first night, would have loved to see what you were seeing through the scope. That infrared camera setup worked a treat, well done, night filming no longer a problem :).
Interesting chat there with Austin. I thought his pictures were pretty good. By a strange coincidence, I have just bought an infra red LED cluster with the intention of making a night camera. I have a few cameras that I can use. After watching so many of your vids I do feel like I know you and Austin with Sandy and Damon following closely. It's just a shame I am so far away (Norfolk). Chris
Hello Rick, a nice old dslr for astrophotography is a eos550d, it has a video crop mode 640x480 which effectively gives you a 7x magnification ontop of your telescope magnification. Geat for videoing the planets then stacking the seperate frames to get a great image.
Rick it's not the 'gaseous edge of the milky way' it IS the milky way, which is comprised of billions of stars! It's just that there is so many it looks like a white cloud, but it's actually stars. Pretty much everything you see with the naked eye is within our galaxy..
Can't wait till you set it all up for taking photos. Makes me want to have a go. Any recommended websites to have a look at equipment or astrophotography?
Rick another fine video I've been watching You since allotment project and Your doing really well and wish You all the best! Quick question what stand are You using to make all those fantastic videos?
Cool. I miss my telescope after watching this. Thing is, for me, part of the fun was learning the night sky, and finding where these awesome sights are by looking for them yourself. Your telescope does all that for you, so you will never learn the map of the stars, if you just type in a co ord and it moves there for you. Know what I mean? Anyway, that is one cool as telescope mate, and that infra red camera thing is pretty impressive too..:)
You can get like a 550D canon pretty cheap. Best way to control it is with a program called DSLR remote pro... or at least it was a few years ago when I was doing astrophotography.
I saw you got a hold on a canon 1100d, if you take a look at Forrest tanaka's video here on youtube you could get a great help in astrophotography, hope to see more on this kinda video coming soon!
Hi Rick, Great video as usual, if you want to go to a top campsite try Kelling heath, its a black out site that is used by Astronomers from all over the uk.. Google it and see what you think, another thing to think of is a dew heater, very cheap to get hold of remembering all the good clear night are cold nights, Rick you like your facts so get this one... there is no such thing as light pollution! Light lights the pollutant......Take care you three camperteers......Ellery
Hi Rick :-) If you want really sharp images, look up "image stacking". You can have great pictures just with a webcam instead of the eyepiece. Way better than a webcam or a dslr is a "monochrome ccd". Less noise, longer exposure, better sensitivity; even in infrared (very important!), and you are able to use filters (also important). A dslr is a bit easyer/quicker and you can get good images in 10 minutes, even without photoshop. But I never met someone who went back to dslr for this kind of photography :-) I think I know your preferences :D
Hi RickI am not certain but I think you will need a normal camera to see anything through the eye piece. But if you have a DSLR camera you should be able to shoot video as well as stills
Rick have you noticed how bright Venus is at the moment in the sky? I think its Venus? Have seen a very bright star in sky for about a few weeks now every night, its easily the brightest up there. Any way brilliant video yet again, Thank you :) Richard
Thanks buddy. Cant wait for the pics you take, if they are half as good as the videos we are all in for a treat. Could i suggest looking on the Moon where Apollo 11 landed, Still dont believe will went there lol thanks again :)
What a beautiful place to camp and see the stars! I really enjoyed the video and the stills. Rick, you both might enjoy this website of a Dutch deep sky photographer: www.thefirmament.nl The Lord's blessings to you and Austin. Carol
Entertaining as always. Thanks Rick.

Thoroughly enjoyed this video Rick! That infrared footage was great too! Can't wait till you explore the photography side of things too!
Greetings from the Canary Islands. Very enjoyable watching your little trips in the van Rick. Look forward to your next one. All the best. :-)
Great to see you out and enjoying the new hobby, Rick! I still use an old eos 450d for some deep sky shots, alongside dedicated ccd cameras. Very tastefully produced, lovely music and photography and camaraderie in braving the ice cold air. Your enthusiasm and geniality are inspiring!
Wonderful to see your enthusiasm and excitement. I've a 127ED on the way and hope to be observing in California this fall after a long hiatus. Best of luck to you.
A great and interesting video hope we have loads more away with the lads this coming year!
You mentioned a telescope camping show with Damen? You should make one like that! Good show VanMan

Rick I thought the GoPro camera's can be mounted to telescopes? The music at the end of the vid, is really nice!
You can get like a 550D canon pretty cheap. Best way to control it is with a program called DSLR remote pro... or at least it was a few years ago when I was doing astrophotography.
Your voice is so soothing it's unreal

Not a very scenic campground but you're there for stars anyway.

Hi RickI am not certain but I think you will need a normal camera to see anything through the eye piece. But if you have a DSLR camera you should be able to shoot video as well as stills
You may be better off with a fan heater rather than an oil one in those temperatures! It circulates much better with the fan.
We are bracelands in 2 weeks. When It’s clear skies what is it like ????
If you've got a hook-up, get a 2 or 3kw fan heater, you'll be blistering be warm.
I desperately want to go to England , I have two best friends there now , or should i say mates
I would hook up a Meade Camera to it and connect that to your laptop, Then you can watch to your hearts content in your Van
Rick have you noticed how bright Venus is at the moment in the sky? I think its Venus? Have seen a very bright star in sky for about a few weeks now every night, its easily the brightest up there. Any way brilliant video yet again, Thank you :) Richard
richardthered yes it's Venus :-)

thats a cool jacket Rick, I notice the brand is north face, does the jacket have a name?
cheers, its called the "mcmurdo"
y’all seem so damn happy lol
Fun !
you should try tracking those jets overhead before the stars come out... looking at a jet through a telescope is amazing
Show us the moon please
You have to stick pics in your vid
have a look at earth sky news good viewing
I could hang out with this guy.lol
Astrology = nonsense, Astronomy = Reality. Pretty easy Rick :)
