Yeah, man, looking at this, it is way easier than even the vendors own documentation. I think they make it more complicated than it needs to be, but you really simplified it!
you never mentioned cleaning the filter in the gun handle. Its madatory to remove it and clean it or the filter will become clogged from hardened paint and the gun will not operate.
I taking the whole machine apart. To keep your seals good..1 shouldn't leave paint in machine to dry. If it has paint and as long as no air is going in, paint will not damage seals, unless the paint freeze. So dont leave paint or any fluids in any freezing conditions. Once you clean it with water try to remove as much water from equipment and pour some pump fluid if you going to store machine or it will be in freezing weather. If you leave water in machine and air gets in it, you will built corrosion or any water build up minerals, with time if you do it alot it will wear out the metals and it will leak out from the piston.
I just found out that if you want to store your machine with water in the pump it will rust and break it, you gonna want to use mineral spirit, wind shield wiper fluid or that blue pump armor fluid it comes with the machine went you buy it. But yeah be careful with water it will rust out the pump.
I use sprayers all winter long. It doesn't work to drag the hose through the snow to flush it. Feel free to come up with your own solution to cleaning it in the winter if this video doesn't help.
I got one of these machines at a garage sale. 50 bucks. Only problem is that it has dried paint on it and in it. If this don't work can i run like paint thinner through the machine?
@@DIYAllied I just bought this machine in an auction and found its all clogged up moter runs but no suction and pipe is also blocked what should I do Thank you for your reply tho 😊
@@AnkushKumar-xv6tr I would first check to see if the hose is completely clogged. If it is you may need to get a new one. If not you should check the intake and outlet valves. I have a video on my channel that can help you.
My sprayer primes but when I go to paint nothing comes out of the gun or it just a spirt. I dont know what to do and can't find any help. Can you help?
Have you checked the filter in the gun? Make sure to release all pressure before attempting to check it. The tip may be clogged also. Did you try reversing the tip?
@@jtoborkey This sounds like a tip clog to me. You might be surprised how many times they clog repeatedly if there is debris in the paint. Just a few chunks of dried paint breaking off from inside the tip can cause repeated clogs. I would clean the tip with a pin until I could clearly see light through it. Cycle some paint through the machine, reinstall the tip and give it another shot.
Do you know if it’s clogged with debri or chunks of dry paint make it stop spraying and also when pressing the trigger nothing comes out or very little does but with no pressure at all
Probably I'm too late with that comment. I spray only thick undercoat and whenever it gets clogged I turn the tip in reverse, spray once and turn it back to forward position. Ussually that helps. The spray gun have a filter in the handle. Make sure you clean it. Even after running water through the pump filter is still dirty.
I forgot and left water in my Magnum X5 for about 5 days. It is a brand new pump and I only painted with it once. I cleaned it with water and forgot to go back and add the cleaner. Did I do damage to the pump? How can I tell?
It should be fine. Try to run it with some more water on low pressure. If it primes and makes pressure It's good to go. If water leaks from the bottom of the machine when pressurized the seals are toast.
@@DIYAllied Thanks. I did that and it works fine. Ran some paint through it to paint some 4X8 foam insulation board. Then I cleaned it with water and ran the storage solution through it.
This was the most concise video explanation I've seen so far. I knew there had to be a way to salvage some of the paint in the lines. Thanks for the info!
We almost always use latex or acrylic/latex which is non toxic so it's safe to pour it down the drain. Just dilute it. Oil based products require flammable-toxic liquids to flush the spayer and need to be disposed of properly.
Next video is how to replace a broken switch. Just kidding. Interesting way of avoiding that annoying sound. Would you clean the other Graco pumps this way?
Thanks for the video. I paint twice a week two days in a row. How would i go about storing it for the five days in a row i don’t use it? Do I need to use the pump armor? Also what about overnight between jobs? Thanks again.
For overnight jobs I usually leave the sprayer set up but I let the pressure off by switching it off and switching it to prime. Leave a wet towel over the intake tube and paint can to prevent it from forming dried skim of paint in the can. If it does dry a little just remove the dried stuff before you start the next day. If you are going to leave it for more than a day of two I would suggest using the process in the video but there is no need for pump armor. I only add pump armor when I'm storing for more than a week, which is pretty rare in my case.
Love your videos! So quick and concise! Makes it so easy. Thank you!
Thank you. I appreciate that.

The filter inside the gun has to be changed on every painting service?
Nope. Just clean it as needed. Replace it if it has holes or is damaged.

Agreed. Do not store your machine long term with water. I use pump armor when I do.
When you clean up after water based paint, it is better to connect Graco the the water hose. You will save some pump life as water will run by it self
In the summer at least. Here where it freezes solid most people don't have access to a hose in the winter.
Why are you cleaning it this way when it’s fast flush compatible? Hook a garden hose right up to it don’t even need power?

I save a lot of Folgers coffee cans. They are great for painting with a brush. I see you like them too.
I don't function in the morning without about 4 cups of coffee💪
The best containers for painting with a brush are 2L juice cartons cut to about 4". Been using them for my work for over a decade.

Would you use water or mineral spirits to clean acrylic paint?
Water
Can you store the machine with warm water inside for a month between usages if you relieve the pressure to protect the seals and Gaskets?
I have done that in the past but wouldn't recommend it.
Not unless you want to corrode your pump. You should store it with pump armor, antifreeze or mineral spirits.
Incorrigible Aaron is it true that pump armor can dry up on the internal parts over time? Better to use mineral spirits for long term storage? Thx
leaving the waste in the paint and intake in the water, does that not pull water into the paint?
It does yes. Just void that paint/ waste when you set up the next time.
Messy, messy messy. So, what do you do with the filters? And where do you dispose of the waste water? OSHA and the EPA would like to know...
Bring it.
I just flushed both sides until clear. Way faster and looks like new still.
That method works fine in the summer but in cold climates in the winter its just not possible to simply connect to a hose.
Do you leave the water in the tube or do you drain out all the water?
I leave the water in the machine unless I'm storing it long term. Pump armor should be used if you are storing it for longer than 2 weeks.
need to clean filter in the handle..
Yes. I have a separate video for that.
Is this the process or at least the same process for latex paint?
Yes it is
It should be in here but it's not. Clean the filter in the gun handle also.

Are you storage this painter with water inside it
It will not rust???

You can store it for short periods of time with just water. Longer than 7 days i would use pump armor.
