He says he's a comedian at heart and I think that's true because in every role he's played as a villain (at least the ones I've seen), I've noticed there is a subtle dark humor that he brings to the character and I think it is that quality that makes the roles he plays so iconic and quotable.

He had some quite humorous lines in The Osterman Weekend.

32 years ago I first saw him in Blade Runner. He was the real hero of that film and his unforgettable line on "tears in the rain"....once in a lifetime sentence. He created it, wasn't in the script.

I miss him and will always think of how great he was. He was gorgeous when he was young in the 80/s and 90/s. Sweet as an older guy too. Sweet and kind. Beautiful Rutger Hauer has passed away..

Rutger, when young looked a lot like the late Benjamin Orr from the Cars. He was a gorgeous guy. Rutger Aged very well too. No facelift crap, and he's kept his mischievous youthful look in his eyes.

I definitely get his being a comedian at heart. Wanted: Dead or Alive had me absolutely fucking rolling on the floor. It had its serious moments, but there was so much humor to it, as well.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain . . .

  • @TLovetoDance012

He was such a talented actor..somewhat under appreciated in my opinion..maybe because he was from another country..but a lot of our actors today were born in other countries and have an accent they never lost..Spanish, Mexican, British, Australian, etc I never saw him in anything that I didn’t like including some of the lower budget movies. I would recommend taking a look at his body of work and checking out “soldier of orange” and some of the movies around that time.

  • @TLovetoDance012

I thought I posted this but it disappeared! Rutger Hauer was a very talented actor. I always felt he was a bit under appreciated and I associated that with his being from a foreign country with a slight accent. However there are many actors in Hollywood who have rather thick accents such as people from Spain, Mexico, Britain, etc. considering it’s so hard to get into Hollywood I feel he did a great job. It didn’t hurt that he was so handsome. Check out his full body of work online there are movies you may not have known he was in and he was so good in them such as “soldier of orange“ and “Escape from Sobibor”. Of course I loved him as the bad guy because he was so darn good at it! He didn’t have to scream and yell and act nutty to be a bad guy..he did it smooth calm and scary. Just watch the movie “the Hitcher, from 1986 if you wanna see a calm but scary villain. C Thomas Howell was great in that movie also and it was his first movie and he was only 18 years old! Fantastic movie. I remember first seeing Blind fury and thought he was fantastic. I agree with some other people here who have said that there is a little comedy in some of his roles. I was so sad that he passed away. I still felt he had a lot to give to us fans. I’m also glad I showed some of his films to my children when they were growing up so they would know who he was. I remember hearing he stole the star of the movie “nighthawks” from sly Stallone and he definitely did. He was the perfect scary bad guy. I will continue watching his movies. If you’ve never seen the video about “the making of the Hitcher“ take a look at it. It’s really good. It’s on UA-cam.

    1. E viu-se um grande sinal no céu: uma mulher vestida do sol, tendo a lua debaixo dos seus pés, e uma coroa de doze estrelas sobre a sua cabeça.
    2. E estando grávida, gritava com as dores do parto, sofrendo tormentos para dar à luz.
    3. Viu-se também outro sinal no céu: eis um grande dragão vermelho que tinha sete cabeças e dez chifres, e sobre as suas cabeças sete diademas;
    4. a sua cauda levava após si a terça parte das estrelas do céu, e lançou-as sobre a terra; e o dragão parou diante da mulher que estava para dar à luz, para que, dando ela à luz, lhe devorasse o filho.
    5. E deu à luz um filho, um varão que há de reger todas as nações com vara de ferro; e o seu filho foi arrebatado para Deus e para o seu trono.
    6. E a mulher fugiu para o deserto, onde já tinha lugar preparado por Deus, para que ali fosse alimentada durante mil duzentos e sessenta dias.
    7. Então houve guerra no céu: Miguel e os seus anjos batalhavam contra o dragão. E o dragão e os seus anjos batalhavam,
    8. mas não prevaleceram, nem mais o seu lugar se achou no céu.
    9. E foi precipitado o grande dragão, a antiga serpente, que se chama o Diabo e Satanás, que engana todo o mundo; foi precipitado na terra, e os seus anjos foram precipitados com ele.
    10. Então, ouvi uma grande voz no céu, que dizia: Agora é chegada a salvação, e o poder, e o reino do nosso Deus, e a autoridade do seu Cristo; porque já foi lançado fora o acusador de nossos irmãos, o qual diante do nosso Deus os acusava dia e noite.
    11. E eles o venceram pelo sangue do Cordeiro e pela palavra do seu testemunho; e não amaram as suas vidas até a morte.
    12. Pelo que alegrai-vos, ó céus, e vós que neles habitais. Mas ai da terra e do mar! porque o Diabo desceu a vós com grande ira, sabendo que pouco tempo lhe resta.
    13. Quando o dragão se viu precipitado na terra, perseguiu a mulher que dera à luz o filho varão.
    14. E foram dadas à mulher as duas asas da grande águia, para que voasse para o deserto, ao seu lugar, onde é sustentada por um tempo, e tempos, e metade de um tempo, fora da vista da serpente.
    15. E a serpente lançou da sua boca, atrás da mulher, água como um rio, para fazer que ela fosse arrebatada pela corrente.
    16. A terra, porém acudiu à mulher; e a terra abriu a boca, e tragou o rio que o dragão lançara da sua boca.
    17. E o dragão irou-se contra a mulher, e foi fazer guerra aos demais filhos dela, os que guardam os mandamentos de Deus, e mantêm o testemunho de Jesus.
    18. E o dragão parou sobre a areia do mar.
    (Apocalipse, 12)
