    Great lesson, I would note that even for an experienced guitarist, this 19 minute lesson is about 2 months of work to get down if you are not familiar playing this style. Even more to get it to full yngwie shreding speed. 2 months of guitar lessons for free, wow the internet is amazing.

      Thanks mate, glad you liked it, really appreciate that comment :) Yeah, totally agree with you there. To be honest there's Yngwie stuff I'm still trying to get down properly, especially in terms of getting it as fluid and consistent as the man himself, lol

    YES!
    no fluff, straight in, short and sweet with everything a guitarist needs to pick up elements within minutes - rather than trawling through a 20 minute video to find ONE vaguely useful bit!
    This is spot on for Tuition video work mate - cheers!

    since 1985 when i started playing and learning Yngie ive been using a four finger approach to the ascending and descending runs which i finally realize is whats been holding me back from mastery. Think he only uses 3 fingers like you are doing. Excited to try it and see if i can make some long over due progress

    The most integral things to malmsteen in my opinion is legato, harmonic minor, Phrygian and diminished modes, sweep picking, pedal tones, and a monster bending and vibrato ability.From there just spend lots of tome playing lead and creating riffs with it

    can you make a video showing "Nylon string chords" yngwie plays on his Acoustic Nylon string guitar because he uses diminished chords and classical bach slash chords but only uses them on his Acoustic Nylon guitar songs that are intros like in dark stars intro, evil eyes acoustic guitar into, etc and others songs he uses acoustic nylon string guitar parts.

    3:06 So, Yngwie Malmsteen also use the melodic minor scale? if i use this scale with pedal notes and if i mix it with the harmonic minor, could i create a neoclassical sound?

    • @JbfMusicGuitar
      @JbfMusicGuitar  5 років тому +1

      In short, yes! He uses the melodic minor, but I'd suggest starting with the harmonic minor first, then start to explore the melodic. Pedal point and harmonic minor will definitely give you some neoclassical sounds, I'd also look at making up some sequences :)

    The only thing I would point out is that, as shown in Troy's videos, the sweeping technique YJM uses is different in terms of up/downs.
    At 8.59 you go D-U-U-D-D and if I'm not mistaken, he goes U-U-D-D-D (with downslanting), which is a completely different technique.

Yngwie threw it and it landed right behind this railing by the stage. My sister's boyfriend ran for it and I guess the security guy thought he was rushing the stage and tackled him and while dave was getting twisted into a pretzel he's still reaching for the pick of Destiny. My sister says well dave is getting thrown out again. Lol, he's a little crazy and does some funny crazy stuff. Gets thrown out sometimes. Great lesson but I would like to point out although they can be adapted many of theses licks follow a particular chord type & progression, tempo, key and so can be awkward to just slot in a different song so can be a bit limited without adapting them and having an understanding of chord/scale relationships. But they give you some great ideas and techniques on YJM's style. Put it another way for the layman with limited guitar chord/scale theory it can be awkward to add a bit of Malmsteen flavor to your cover of for example, Journeys, Separate ways just off the bat of these licks especially as some follow a particular chord progress.

    • @JbfMusicGuitar
      @JbfMusicGuitar  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah, totally spot on! I know the theory won't land with a lot of players, or will put them off, so for me it's a case of trying to cover the bases and explain it, without getting too sidetracked :)

At a guess it's probably a Marshall Amp, 4x12 cab, quite possibly with a tube screamer of other boost in front of it? I probably put the mids up a bit say 6/7 and dropped the treble and bass to maybe 4 or something? I'm not sure I saved the patch, so can't be entirely sure though!

      (This is a really good exercise for that: ua-cam.com/video/JrBiNJ-T-xo/v-deo.html)
      Or, anchoring your hand if it needs to move- it gets a bit strechty!

    For some reason the harmonic and melodic minor scales style he uses is so much easier to play fast and she'd through then pentatonic ones. Which most consider easier. Is there a reason for this

    • @JbfMusicGuitar
      @JbfMusicGuitar  3 роки тому

      I'm not sure, but I'd guess it's to do with how the shapes connect- generally not too many jumps or stretches an you can position shift a bit more naturally. You've got more notes on each string than pentatonic, so there's more choice for picking different notes on same string. Those are my best guesses anyway!
      Do you reckon they might play a role?

Fair enough man, I've found the two way pick slanting to be a huge help; I'm able to play stuff I never could have done before. Similarly, by being aware of this, my economy picking had gotten better as well. My main aim was to improve consistency; still a work in progress, but when isn't it with guitar, eh!
      Understandably he's not everyone's cup of tea, and you'e quite right there are lots of ways to play the same lick- just thought it was worth highlighting Malmsteen's approach for anyone who might take to it and find that method useful :)

      Troys analysis of picking strategies goes deep but if you only take what you need from it then your technique will improve dramatically very quickly, like most guitar players my left hand facility greatly exceeded my right hand ability, Troys work has helped me to restore some balance in my fast playing. Pedagogy sucks but it's a necessary evil.

    *Yngwie DOES NOT SWEEP.*
    Yngwie's technique is economy picking of alt picking plus pull-offs, hammer-ons, and raking, which is maintaining pick direction sometimes from string-to-string but never more than an additional string.
    Sweep picking means playing at least an entire chord (3 tones) arpeggio in one direction over three strings. One can play a tetrad or pentrad over 4 or 5 strings.
    The minimum though is always three strings and a triad (chord).
    Excellent vid otherwise.
