Can they go together? 2- Orange and white wire on aftermarket head unit states it’s (Switched illumination power supply) and only have a orange wire on the car harness. Got a question I am wiring a 1998 Silverado and the vehicle wiring harness has a orange and orange/white the pioneer double din has orange white do I use the orange/white from the vehicle? Also the green that is parking can I just leave it unwired? Also pioneer has blue/white and I only have a blue coming from the vehicle do I use it?
You can hook up those orange and white wires together. You don't have to wire the green wire, but some features will remained "locked".
thanks for explaining the key and key 2 wires was not sure what those are for. since i dont have steering wheel controls i dont need to use them.

Hello, I liked your video. I bought an after market car stereo everything worked fine the bluetooth and videos for a day then it stopped. Only I can hear the radio. I think is the blue antenna wire but I don't know for sure. Can you help? Thanks

Got an aftermarket stereo to put in my vauxhall navaro van.. Now I've taken the twin plug and it's plugged straight into it fine... But I still have a thick red wire live I assume its ignition.. Where do I connect it......?...many thanks Paul

Very good video, i was looking for some answers on the pionner Avic Radio that just went out in my Coach, There's a grey wire written " Inst Lts" grey and it does not tell me in the avic radio manual, wondering if you would know??

So on the car wiring side I have a orange (dimmer) wire but on my harness for the radio it is also orange but is (illumination input) do I just not connect them? Or what do I do? Also I have a pink data wire on my car harnesses but not on my radio harness where would I connect the pink wire?
Don't work about the pink wire, that's typically for vehicle speed sense. You can hook up the dimmer wire to illumination, as long as it's just one wire. Do no twist orange and orange/ white together on the "car side" of the harness.
i have a 2007 civic lx that had a separate car harness that has a illumination wire and dimmer wire. The new radio harness only has the orange wire for dimmer. The display is hard to read like it isnt get illumination power. Will hooking the orange the the red dimmer on the unused car harness give me a display?
Illumination dims the head unit display. It doesn't provide power for the display.

LOVER the video---> been installing head units for over 30 yrs,,,help me out...i jus bought a Blaupunkt that has KEY 1 & 2.. steering wheel wires..i also bought a unit for that to control NISSAN 2021 frontier truck...DO I NEED THE CONTROL UNIT i bought ???...thanx for any help!!!! i dont kno what to do with key wires???? if any???
I'm not too familiar with Blaupunkt head units. You'll want to contact PAC and see if you can program their steering wheel control module manually to your product.
Hey, im still a bit lost on the blue wires.
I get what each does, but my car harness has 2 blue wires, 1 solid and 1 blue/white and my new head unit only has solid blue.
Do i put the 3 together?
When i took out the other after Market deck i didn't see how they did it, im guessing they spliced the 3 together bc all wires were used etc
Yes if it's from the "car side" you can combine the blue and blue/white as they're receiving a 12 volt signal.
Have a 2016 Honda CRV, double din Android Auto setup with Honda stereo adapter. Only cord I can’t quite figure out is the orange and black steering wheel memory wire. Other videos show the system interfacing with the steering wheel without a sw adapter. Is there a workaround to incorporate this wire? Can it latch onto any of the other stock wires?
I use a steering wheel control module to interface with the vehicle steering wheel.
Hello, I have a 2005 SAAB and although my screen works perfectly well there is an odd interference noise, its a high pitched whine that raises and lowers with the engine revs.....I'm hearing this could either be a poor ground or something to do with the factory amplifier fitted to my car. Would you have any ideas? Thanks
Could be a poor ground. I had the issue with my truck, ended up being the ignition wires.
Ground the chassis of the radio directly to a frame
YOU can buy an inline filter and be done,some aftermarket radios have them inline already.
Great video! But I do have question with my Nissan adaptor set up… so is it safe to wire up the blue/white (amp turn on) to the stereo harness blue/white (remote output)? I don’t have the loop as your video.. mine came with an separate adapter for antenna solid blue with a male plug… & would I need to use a brown vss wire? My stereo doesn’t come with navigation but does have carplay maps
You can hook up that wire and the antenna adapter blue with it as well.

You have to refer to the steering wheel controls install guide. Each aftermarket product is different.
You skipped very fast about illumination wires. My case is : on the car side ill+ and ill- and aftermarket harness ill.backlight (orange) and ill.backlight(green) so what should I do? What does the manual say? Sounds like it could be positive or negative activation but you need to verify in the manual.
@@AnthonyJ350 No manual,just wiring diagram as explained. Anyhow, I connected ill+ with green illumination backlight wire and left open (insulated) ill- and orange ill. Backlight, and it works with dimming the backlight when the lights are on. Thank you for respond, subscribed.
When you mentioned about the foot brake wire and the hand brake wire where would the foot brake wire be hooked up to because what I have is a alpine double din touchscreen model INA-W910 in-dash GPS Navigation receiver 7.0 inch wide in dash color display and that wire got me confused on where that wire should be hooked up to I know the hand brake wire goes on the E-brake wire under the center console area
Foot brake would be the actual main brake pedal. It will be a positive trigger wire when you press on the brake pedal.

So I have two questions if I have an existing camera where does the pink back up camera connect to like can I combine it to give power and what wire is ok and what about the key 1 and key 2 wire what do I combine them to work my swc
You'll have to consult the instruction manual for those off shore head units because I don't know.
So I want my reverse camera to come on when I go into reverse and also I wanted to be able to see behind me when I’m driving. What I am guessing is I can still hook my camera power up to my reverse lights, but run my reverse power wire off radio to a 12 V source with a switch..I have a Boss BV765BLC
If the camera is always powered on, some head units let you view the camera by selecting it.
Got on a SCOSCHE FD23B one is orange/black and orange/white. Not sure what they do, but my illumination on the car stereo is just orange.
You have to test the wires then. Illumination from the vehicle should go 12+ when the lights are turned on.
My stereo has a orange black wire and my car side adapter has only a solid orange wire. Do i connect them or just tape them off? The stereo manual calls the wire solid orange but it is very much orange with a black stripe.
I don't use the orange/ black wire.

I recently installed a basic cd player abd it worked fine. I then tried to install a flip screen and it wont turn on. I took it out and pit the other regular player back in and it works fine. Why am I not getting power to the flip screen. I have a 2004 Hyundai tiburon
The ribbon cable to the screen might be damaged.
Hello I have installed an android head unit on my 2012 Ford Fiesta but the lights on the central panel do not work. The seller told me after the purchase that those types of units are not fully compatible with models of 2012 and earlier (red panel lighting) but they work perfect on models of 2013 and after (blue panel lighting). In my car this is the only problem that I can't solve and it's very annoying. The steering wheel and panel controls work perfect with the new head unit the only problem is the lighting. So do I have to connect the ACC (red wire) to the orange (Illumination wire) and panel lights should stay always on or I missed something? Your help would be very useful

Red should only be hooked up to ACC and orange needs an illumination source.
I use major brands with modules like Idatalink Maestro to make everything work properly. Cost a little more, but for good reason.

May I ask you, I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey and am installing a Nakamichi Android Audio Unit. I've worked 90% of the wires together mostly matching colours except for the last 4 wires. This Head unit does offer steering wheel controls options.
Now the Car Harness side has a solid Orange illumination wire but the only orange-like wire remaining on the Nakamichi Harness is Orange w/black stripe (Nakamichi is horrible at labelling their wires rather they indicate position on the harness connector). I believe the Headunit reads this as the Car Light Control.
Then there are 3 additional wires with sticker tags on the Nakamichi Harness side. 1 = solid Brown (labelled "Back CTL"), 2= solid Blue (labelled "SWC 2"), & 3 = Solid Orange Wire ( labelled " Key").
Should I connect the Car Harness Solid Orange (Illum.) Wire to the Nakamichi Orange /Black Stripe?
What do I do with the remaining 3 labelled wires?

I would confirm the orange/ black wire is actual illumination. As for the steering wheel controls you'll have to go on the Nakamichi online manual to look up what wires are the controls for your car. I prefer to use universal steering wheel control interfaces to achieve control.

So are you saying that i will hoop up the orange wire from the marstro harness to the orange/white wire which is the dimmer coming from the kenwood radio?
Yes, just make sure the colours match. Do not hook up 2 dimmer wires if they're wired to the same plug.
I jus hooked up a double din for the first time and everything is hooked up and sound is working, but when i touch the touchscreen it isn't working. Do this have anything to do with the pink wire? Or what you think.
Sounds like a defective unit. Is it new?
@@AnthonyJ350 yes its new. Got it from Amazon for $60 for a 2004 Mercury Monterey. I was told by somebody i need to ground the pink wire and green wire for the screen to work, but nothing changed.

I really hope you see this, I have an apple carplay screen radio and only 4 of my 6 speakers work and also can’t figure out what to connect my steering wheel controls to (the colors they have listed for those are pink and brown). I bought a step 2 harness and can’t figure what to do with the second harness (comes with two blue and white wires and a red and white plug in). If you could help at all that would be WONDERFUL!
The two tweeters in the very rear end of my car won’t work, but the ones in my doors work just fine (just trying to clarify a bit more)
Which speakers aren't working. Those steering wheel controls wires are very specific and you have to read the instruction manual.

I have swm 7013b and installing on sonata 06, no factory amp. The screen is on but there is no sound. I got the aftermarket harness from redwolf(amazon) and i also tried connecting blue wires together or with the red ones but nothing works.

You'll have to test the speaker leads separately and make sure nothing is shorted.

I’m having trouble wiring an amp and subwoofer. What’s the looped blue wire? If I connect the wire from the amp to the looped blue wire, will that power the amp? I tried the non-looped blue wire but it’s not powering on the amp. I did troubleshooting and made sure it wasn’t the fuse.

No do not hook up orange to red. That will make the head unit always on dim or night mode. If the harness does not have the wire, just terminate the end and do not hook it up.
I got a unit where subs are playing on radio but not with Bluetooth, do you know what would cause this
You have "ant" hooked up and not "remote turn on". Might be a setting in the head unit.

Hey I got a question. I have a jvc touchscreen double din. It's touch screen has been glitchy when I use the touchscreen menus. So updated it. Didn't help. I'd click spotify and then another menu like the phone would be selected. Or BT audio, and the tuner would be selected. So I managed to get thru the glitches and do the touch calibration. And it did not help either now all touch function has stopped working. Buttons work and phone still connect, and I can still see what's on the screen. I'm thinking maybe a touch screen/ ribbon cable replacement. Just want another opinion before I order the screen from the states. I'm in British columbia so shipping is a hassle. If you have any opinion on this I would greatly appreciate it.
P.s. The ribbon cable on the screen looked kinda broken under the glass
You could try. If that doesn't work switch to Kenwood or Alpine.

It's working correctly, it's looking for a camera signal. You can either install a backup camera or turn off that feature in the menu.
But i dont have an option to turn it off, even when i am changing gear its saying reversing ant everything stops

Yes you can hook up the blue/ white from the head unit to the blue of the aftermarket Toyota harness.

Technically over a long period of time it would. Vehicle should be on a maintainer or battery disconnected when sitting for a long time.

I got a double din and when I turn the key on and turn on the vehicle it turns blue. When I turn the key back one notch the radio works fine I’m stuck on what to do.
How did you wire it?
I have 2 wires that are constant what do i do?
1 is at 11.14volts the other stays at 11.42volts.
The 11.14volts drop to 4.25volts when i turn the key to the accessory position.
Do you or anyone know what could be the problem?

I have a 2005 ford ranger and I’m trying to install a pioneer avh 215bt and the only wires I haven’t connected would be the purple and white, single green wire and the blue and white wire. When it came to turning on my screen would be white then change to blue and stay like that till I turn the vehicle off. Any tips?
Did you buy the head unit new? Where did you ground it?
@@AnthonyJ350 By ground, I assume you mean the black wire and that is connected to the black wire from the relay. It’s not a new unit though

Power antenna setup on my 85 Toyota is driving me crazy. Have solid blue from my head unit (Dual DMCPA70BT) and harness on car side has solid blue with loop. If I connect blue to blue the antenna extends as soon as the ignition is set to acc or on, then retracts when key is removed. I want the antenna to only be up when the head unit is on and set to radio - as you mention in the excellent video. Tried snipping the loop thinking that would do the trick but it did not. Can’t find a combo that works. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!
You need a head unit that has blue for antenna and blue/ white for amp turn on. Otherwise head units like yours turn on when the head unit is on.
The head unit does indeed have a blue power antenna wire as well as a blue/white “remote” wire. Can this work somehow?

@@gregenderle9772 Blue/ white turns on all the time with the head unit. Blue is suppose to only power up when "tuner or radio" is selected.

I have a question,, I'm trying to install a touch screen radio on my wife 2007 chrysler aspen.. ok, I have a dodge ram 2002, and I notice that the harness fit on both vehicles, but that harness I got it for the dodge ram long time ago, but I'm using it to install the radio on the chrysler.. I have all wires of the new radio connected to the harness.. .. ok.. so I have the radio connect it to the harness it's all one piece now.. so I connected to the chrysler to test the radio before I put everything together.. but.. I didn't work... so I disconnected and I connected the old radio and it does work...well I connected the new radio on the ram and does work.. so I connected back to the chrysler and it doesn't work... I don't understand
The Aspen needs a harness with a module. The accessory turn on (red wire) is data controlled. So the plug is the same but needs that module. You can get it at your local install shop.
Yes I went and ask at the store and that is exacly what they say... it cost me twice more then the radio cost.. but anyway I got it workin
@@leogonzalez0911 Unfortunately manufacturers have made everything computer controlled, so all the electronics are more complex cause it all has to "talk" to each other.

You need to find an accessory wire.
I have to connect the yellow and the red to the yellow from the adapter to get the double din to start. When I turn the ignition off the radio still on and it drains the battery. How do I connect the wire so when I turn off the ignition the radio also go off? Please help! Thank you!

If the other harness doesn't have it you can just terminate the connection. You don't have to hook it up.
I just purchased a new pioneer radio. I tried to connect the yellow, black and red wires color for color but radio won't turn on. Did I do something wrong?

@@carltondoty7100 You might need to find your own accessory source. I've has to hardwire the accessory wire to the cigarette port on those cars.

Hello i tied to install a sub in my vw golf mk5 with aftermarket stereo and everything is fine exctp tge REM i domt know where to connect too others say to a blue and white wire but i dont have one i got only blue or white ?? Can somebody help me !!!
In the instructions you want the "Remote" wire.

@@AnthonyJ350 well if have a blue and white strips wire that will work aswell as just blue wire bust it must be a ANT
@@MasterTheGame97 Sometimes "ANT" only turns on with the radio and turns off with other sources because it's for a power antenna and you might have to change it in the settings.

You can try it. You just can't combine it on the aftermarket harness.

Sounds like you have "Ground" hooked up to "Illumination".
I try connect rear camera and something goes wrong. Now my screen stay on minimum brightness and brightness doesn't work. How resolve problem?
Disconnect the reverse wire and see if the problem stops. What brand of head unit is it?
@@AnthonyJ350 camera already disconnected after screen flicking, possible connect + to ground wire. Everything works, only screen brightness on minimum stay. Android unit brand: Junsun

OK what Info I'm after is how to read a 20 pin diagram.... actually needing exact order for a duel 236bt to be exact .. I understand the purpose of each wire .. but just not getting the diagrams and honesty my eyes aren't great either.. please help...

Im also not trying to order one and wait as this is a old deck but new one has a defect so need finish installing amps.. put pannels and seats back ect.... Im just tired of zooming in an pausing utube or ebay trying figure out what pin ground and remote is.. does it list 1 -10 or is does it drop down and list that way..
@@jeremyremington8897 Sometimes they have a legend on the chassis. If colour code is difficult might be better to bring it to a professional
@@AnthonyJ350 Yeah Again I was hoping you can explain the legend... A 20 pin harness has 5pins on top and 5 underneath.. and gap and same for other side .. I was asking does a legend ( well learned that term at the very least .. ) on a 20 pin. ..... □ .....

Advice... When making a video explaining wiring, have the camera in front of the wires instead of focusing on the back of your left thumb. Also holding the wires inside your hands but the camera place above from behind where you can't see what you holding... then the shot way down showing mostly your wrist... Didn't plan this very well 😂😅
