Great video arrived at just the right time... just had our second quote for a different colour of quartz for our kitchen and price leapt from £3200 coral quartz to £5474!! for white arabesque!! We were told the new worktop we picked out is from a new range/supplier and so maybe different brand range(?) not held in stock....and we have a small island! Got the right questions to ask now. Thanks!
That's brilliant Ray - glad to be of service. Obviously, I don't know your project but if you would like to contact us (R.queenline@gmai.com - we have a discount code for our subscribers ) the company we use may of use to you. Otherwise good luck with your project and thanks for your comment.
@@TheKitchenDesignExperts Thanks for reply. Have been back to our design/sales person today and selected an in-house in-stock quartz that their regular fabricator/fitter can do, so price will be back down closer to first quote...phew! and we can now afford a warming drawer and wine cooler too! So price rise was a pricier finish and different supplier/fabricator as all three quartz we went through were silestone brand. But thanks for offer of further advice help. (Oh and we changed our minds and chose different ovens!) Cheers Ray from sunny Sussex!
Hi Thank you for that. Appreciated. We have just done another video about the possible danger of quartz. Spolier alert, its not dangerous for you . ua-cam.com/video/hICR5BGef_c/v-deo.html
Thank you for sharing, this video has answered so many questions I had about Quartz bench tops. It has also given me some great questions to take back to our designer and hopefully save some money. Your other videos are also fantastic and have been very helpful (watching from Australia).
Really pleased you have got something from them. Reference Corian. All I need to say is that my own , last 2, kitchens I have used Corian as part of my design.
@@TheKitchenDesignExperts thank you you for your response. I have been informed by one designer that Corian sinks are liable to cracking if used with a Quooker tap. However, another designer has said its highly unlikely to occur. I hope you don't mind me asking but what is your experience of this?
Hi, sorry for tardy response, I missed this one. The last I heard was that Corian themselves advised against using a boiling water tap with Corian sinks. That was information about 2 years ago, it may have changed. Next time I speak with Corian area manager I will ask question. I believe that you are better safe than sorry and I would choose another sink
Hi, we are considering having our laminate worktops covered with quartz worktops. A company advertising on the TV makes it sound very convenient. Do you have any thoughts on this type of kitchen upgrade? Brilliant video by the way! Thank you.
Hi Debbie, thanks for comment about video, much appreciated. Now then , I haven't had much dealings with the type of tops you are talikng about though I have seen some finished. The one's I have seen have all been granite not quartz. The concept seems to work and of course it's easier and I presume cheaper than changing all tops. I take it they will have to disconnect sink and refit it into the new top. I doubt you will achieve and undermounted sink which is one of the main reasons for having Quartz. The only thing I would want to know is how is it finished against the wall as it will presumably butt up to your existing wall finish, tiles etc.
Hi, yes we didn’t touch on that topic. Good point. Frankly we don’t rate drainer grooves ,they don’t really work that well. The recessed drainer is better as it catches the water and stops it from dribbling down the front of the cupboards. Problem is, it costs quite a bit more. Thanks for you question
Thank you for explanation very helpful. My question is some quartz is guarantees for 10 years and the other guarantees for 25 years, what is the different between them in terms of quality. Thank you
Gurantees are absolutely no indication as to quality. I once, for my sins, sold a flat pack , cheap kitchen (not for long) it had a lifetime guarantee and was the worst kitchen I've ever sold. Look at the % quartz to silicon for an indication to the quality
Thanks for the very helpful clip. I am just wondering is the worktop behind you 20mm or 30mm? I am debating on the thickness at the moment. Many thanks!
Hi, it’s 30mm. We tend to use 30mm all the time. The cost difference is small and we think the thicker top looks better. However if you were wanting the sleek contemporary look consider 12mm. This definitely looks like it’s making a statement. One thing to bear in mind when looking at thinner tops is how they will affect the top drawer if you are putting a hob over a drawer. You may have to blank a top drawer in that situation
Hi. Actually you do surprise me. It's a while since I used them but have to admit I thought they were 93%. Sometimes different patterns may require a slightly altered % of quartz. I don't think, though, that 90% will cause problems.
Hi. I had a question around where the quartz is produced. Does that make a difference to the quality? I am finding a range of prices and it’s very confusing. Some are branded and some not. Some are European and others Chinese imports. Help please 😀
Hi. Thank you for your query.. When I get Quartz companies in to sell me their wares, if selling non-Chinese Quartz, tend to say it in a way that Chinese is inferior. I have used both and frankly I haven’t found much difference. The mix of Quartz and resins, silicon etc is the key thing. Make sure the Quartz content is 93% if it is it doesn’t matter where it comes from. However, if costs are similar I’m always tempted to buy as locally as I can. Shipping tons of Quartz around the world isn’t great.
@@TheKitchenDesignExperts Firstly thank you so much for replying! What you said in your video did make me question if they were just making me doubt the quality for a sale. Great advice around the shipping that didn’t even cross my mind, thank you. P.s great videos, simple and to the point.
There are 2 types. Those with quite large sparkly bits called mirror chips and those with a much more subtle sparkle.. the former are now somewhat out of fashion they were popular about 10 years ago. We do a lot of Quartz with the subtle sparkle, they look great
Thank you for the question. As I suggested in the video, as long as it has the correct percentage of Quartz v silicone then I would simply go for the cheapest. It’s not the quality of Quartz that is key, it’s the quality of the fabrication and installation that really matters

Can you make a video on porcelain countertop tops?
Very very informative!
Thank you!

I think you missed a key element; drain grooves or recessed drainers on quarts
Can you shed some light on these on which is better?

Hi, great videos, Silestone appears to be common in the market place but is 90% quartz, any thoughts given the 93% rule?
