Thats a little excessive. Everyone thought OJ was guilty. What makes Norm different is that it actively aggravated his boss on SNL. All comedians were making OJ jokes.
@@DBrown-gu4ry tons of people actually thought he was innocent. The defence did an amazing job of turning the trial into an issue of racist police against a black man, and a surprisingly large number of people bought it at the time.
@@enneff If it happened today, you would be called a white supremacist for saying OJ was guilty and CNN, WasPo and NYTimes would fill their pages with celebrations and asskissing when he was acquitted.
@@enneff I shouldn't say "everyone," but the majority of the people in America believed he was guilty. In LA, however, it was a different story. As you said, the defense basically put the LAPD on trial for racism. And if you've read anything about the history of the LAPD, you'll know that they have an abysmal record of racism and abuses against the black community. So when they turned that against them, I bet a lot of black people in LA believed it. Its not hard to believe today. LA is crazy. The LA Sheriffs Department has GANGS in it. No jokes. Look up gangs and the LA Sheriff Dept.
This was a hell of a moment. One of the most savage jokes I've ever heard. I recall watching it live, it was only like 3 or 4 years after OJ did it. RIP Norm. You're the GOAT.
As I recall it, Norm mentioned in an interview or podcast that he met Griffey Jr. later and got his goat by praising his dad effusively, stressing that he never saw a better player in all baseball. According to Norm he could tell that killed him, but he couldn't say anything because Norm was paying his father such a great compliment.
@@STaLLoNe86 I could have also said irritated him or touched a nerve. Hahaha, it's true that it's just not self-evident is it? Odd expression now that I think about it.
I love how scared people were of Norm even then, when there was no Twitter to fuel the flames of controversy. You could see it on Woodson's face as soon as Norm mentioned him. He didn't know what the guy was about to say, but he was terrified it was going to be something bad. And I love even more how Norm fed on that fear and never backed down.
He was showing how much he loathed white people. In his mind it was "who is this white boy that can disrespect this great black athlete"? BUT if it had been Chris Rock, he would be slapping his leg laughing in agreement because you are insane if you deny that OJ killed them. I thought America was racist against blacks? So how is it that a black man murders two beautiful white people and walks? Seems to me they're not that racist and I would love to be invited to the black people's pity parties as then I wouldn't even have to try. Statistically, whitey has a reason to fear blacks where as if you are black, wherever you go you are meeting the best representative of that white person as they don't dare be anything but respectful. Getting kind of pathetic at this point.
RIP Norm - truly one of the all-time great comics. Also, personally this joke is an incredible clash of worlds. Norm is one of my favorite comics, and Charles Woodson is my all time favorite football player
Well for one, he was a free man at that point and wasn't convicted. I mean we all knew he did it, but still, it was a pretty touchy joke considering how divisive america was during the trial. But the jokes funny as hell 10/10
Yeah none of those answers are correct, so I'll be the one to say it. Because blacks feel like they have been persecuted by law enforcement since forever. And they certainly have. Therefore the majority of black people support setting a black murderer free, especially in a black on white double murder charge. It's a fucked up way to look at it but I get it. I think many people of any race get it. I think, in this case, the correct verdict was reached. I would question the intelligence of anyone who genuinely thinks that OJ is innocent of the crimes for which he was charged. But his lawyers did their job. In the chess match that is the trial process, the defense outplayed the prosecution. The two justices that resulted are that OJ's life was destroyed regardless of the acquittal, and that there weren't any animals running around looting and burning their own city to the ground. Cue the racial accusations... (but first know that I don't give a shit).
@@DonnieBrasco-dy9yd they are persecuted because they commit more crimes per capita. The law casts a wide net for them and many innocent people are caught up in it. Use your brain.

I love how upset the players are at the joke. As opposed to, you know, being upset that OJ murdered two people and skated.
In fairness, they weren't upset about the murders.
It is like how people get upset at how a criminal is arrested instead of the crime they committed
