@@pp3k3jamailmy uncle absolutely deserves to be in the hall of fame and now he is. Joe Namath showed up at his door this year and it was well fucking deserved. He came from nothing and busted his fucking ass and if you only knew how good of a man he is. I still remember the day they retired his jersey and seeing him talk about his grand kids made me cry. Michael and Danny both have children and now gabby his second youngest daughter has a baby too. Next is Josh and Mary Kate which is his youngest child. When indomitable Joe Klecko recorded 20.5 sacks in 1981 he played the latter part of year on a badly sprained foot. He had great strength, good quickness&never let up. He was chief broker on Sack Exchange, explosive, very strong and super competitive. After being out for most of 1982 and having knee surgery before 1983 season, he lost some speed and lateral movement. But he was still extremely quick, strong and relentless,so they switched him from RE to LT,and tireless Joe benefited from the move

That 1985 year,Klecko overcame the knocks that moving into the nose would end his career, played with more pain(again),yet made himself into a true inside power rusher. With great low strength & very good hands,Klecko overpowered the finesse centers and wrestled the muscle men to standoffs. His 96 tackles were best for Jet lineman and still found time to get to QB for 7.5 sacks.Despite 2 years of knee problems, this heavyweight battler still had a concussive first step and was as strong as a bear

As a lifetime NY Giants fan, who obviously watched Klecko play numerous times, its is the height of lunacy that J.K. is not in the HOF! This is the ONLY man that EVER made the Pro bowl at THREE different positions. Don't think that's a big deal? you obviously never played football at any competitive level, nor know much about the game. Klecko was a DOMINANT player, one of the best of all time. Would have LOVED to have had Klecko on those 80's Giants teams. They were great already, add Klecko? Maybe the best defense of all time!

Late in 1984, after overcoming some initial tentativeness in recovering from another knee surgery, Klecko was voted to the Pro Bowl & looked good in his stint at NT. So the next year, though preferring DE, Joe ended up on the nose. That year, the Jets ranked 3rd in NFL in run defense(94.8 yards)an improvement of 35 yards a game. Jets defense held opponents to a 32.7% 3rd-down conversion rate, NFL's 5th-best. All of that came without Gastineau in the starting lineup until the 5th game of the year.

The slant style, or "angle", revolutionized the nose guard position. Every nose guard uses it now. I remember when he first used it, against the great Dwight Stephenson of the Dolphins. One play that stood out when I was a kid...from the snap he leapfrogged a center took the QB down and the ball with him. I think Dave Kreig may have been the unfortunate recipient. What a fuckin joke that this warrior is not where he truly belongs - in Canton, Ohio - He was simply the most dominant DT , DE & nose tackle to EVER PLAY THE GAME ! PERIOD !!!!!!!

As a Giant fan I am amazed at how many Jet and non-Jet fans bash Gastineau. In the 80's there were two players in the NFL that were feared and both of them were from NY, LT and Gastineau.
Sack dance, off the field relationships, who gives a shit!! Gastineau was a beast. One of the few players ever to play who could hunt you down from one end of the field to the other and tear your head off.

Big debate in New York in the early 80's was who do you take? Mark or Lawrence. Nowadays you cannot find a soul who admitted they said "Gastineau"

As another Giants fan,I saw Joe play his entire career. Only thing wrong with Klecko, he played for the wrong team in NY. Imagine him playing nose tackle on that 1980's Giant defense. As great as they were, he would have made them better.

Gastineau couldn't carry Klecko's jockstrap. Without Gastineau Joe Klecko still makes All-Pro at 3 different positions. Without Klecko there is no Mark Gastineau. Mark only excelled at sacks because of Joe, while Klecko was a fearsome sacker, a punishing run stopper and a complete game changer. Marty Lyons was a better all-around lineman than Gastineau as well.

Klecko was always double teamed or even 3 guys on him and they still couldn't stop him. This led to other players making plays.
