    My history teachers brother played for the Jets during this time. Lance Mehl, or as anyone sent to C-Cap knew him as, Sir Lance. He graduated from Bellaire High School in Bellaire Ohio. Which is also the high school of Joey Galloway. I went to school with the current starting right offensive tackle of the 49ers Colton McKivitz.

    No doubt about it, the 1981 New York Sack Exchange was the greatest Jets defensive unit in their franchise history, I am so very happy that Joe Klecko is going to the pro football hall of fame!!!

    In 1981 with the Jets, Klecko had 20 1/2 sacks, and Gastineau had 20 sacks😮

    #74 Abdul-Salaam, #93 Marty Lyons... since the video barely showed them... 99 and 73 were the best no doubt, but those other two were no slouches

      Was really just the one season, 1981, where this foursome excelled. However, Klecko, Lyons, and Gastineau were a good foundation for a while.

    I remember when the Jets came out for the divisional playoff against the Bills in 1981 all hyped up and before the first quarter was over they fell behind 24-0 (including a fumble on the opening kickoff that the Bills returned for a TD). They fought back but ultimately lost 31-27.

      I’ve been saying this for years, but the Jets management doesn’t care what we think. I hated the uniform change in ‘98 (the cheesy/alternate version of the ‘60s/70’s Jets. Glad those are gone.

    I think about 70% of those sacks would have been 15 yard penalties today. Todays NFL is a bloated joke.

    Even though he came later, Kyle Clifton doesn’t get nearly as much recognition as he deserves for his contributions to the team. To this day, he’s still the Jets franchise record holder for tackles.

    Sick man, just fuck@@ sick. I'd love to see these demolition players kick the shit out of the actors in NFL garb. Gastineau and Lyons were hungry for the game and were so hopped up they could have gone through a stone wall

      I know what you're feeling. I was s ticket holder all through out the Meadowlands era, and it's not hard to notice they are playing exactly the same football... nothing but field goals and flop quarterback draft picks

      What have you been smoking? Ever heard of Reggie White, LT, Bruce Smith, Mean Joe Green, Deacon Jones, Jack Youngblood? Gastineau had some great years no question. But I'd put these guys I mentioned ahead of him.

    Of all ex players to end up with CTE or other serious health issues (he reportedly has Alzheimers) I never expected Gastineau to be one of them. He was the symbol of toughness in the '80s but over did it was all the dancing after the play.

    • @bufnyfan1
      @bufnyfan1 2 роки тому

      Gastineau now suffers from dementia/Parkinson's brought about by all the hits he took to the head (and has also recently been treated for Stage 3 colon cancer). He has been trying to get Roger Goddell (NFL commissioner) to take a more active role in compensation for all the damage that was done to him from playing football.
