  • Known to outrun Spanish horses, the high altitude Incan ‘chasqui’ runners were the fastest messenger system on earth until the invention of the telegraph.
Nearly superhuman, they ran carrying a star-headed battle mace and a war sling, serving as warriors, messengers and spies.
Training began in childhood and included long runs at even higher altitudes, weighted running to prepare for carrying goods and weapons as well as interval training that mimicked the 1.6 mile relay system which allowed them to cover all 25,000 miles of stone roads within the Inca empire.
Diet consisted of potatoes, purple corn, ‘Incan peanuts’, and meat from guinea pigs and llamas.
For athletic supplements, they took blue algae and seaweed.
Tribal running methods are extremely effective.
