Appreciate the review and the discount code, FYI I used Dawn Ultimate for cleaning the adhesive from the MagBak protection and it was a breeze to clean all the skunk.
This was great. The tape was about 3 minutes per wheel, but attaching was 30 seconds and they look great.

Great video! Initially, I was planning on buying the MagBaks version, but like the Vion version so much better. IMO, it is better to not have all that tape on my rims. Thank you for the video and your discount code!
I have 18" wheels on my Model 3s. I was one of the first to buy Rimetrix wheel covers. My rims are pristine. If I do scrub a curb, a quick buff with a Dremel wheel, some silver Krylon applied with a brush, a quick buff the next day and a little Krylon clear. From 5 feet away, the rims look like chrome. I've restored the "chrome" on the rest of the car as well. Sets off my red Model 3 with the white interior just great.
Good point on being able to just buff it out.
I had Rimetrix in black when I had a Model 3 and tried sanding out some curb rash and it still looked terrible, so I just bought another set when they had a sale. So then I had extras for later curb rash.
We can thank Tesla for this issue because the decided to put wheels on that stick out farther than the tires. In most vehicles the tire walls stick out farther, which protects the wheels from curb rash. Glad you pointed that out. The better solution is to replace all the wheels with 18" tires, because they have a beefier sidewall and wheels that are recessed more. Not only will you get more protection from curb rash but you will also get better range. I did this after I bought my 2023 Model Y Performance and couldn't be happier. TSportLine sells the sets and yes they are a little expensive but they are mounted, balanced and have the TPWS inside them, so all I had to do was remove the OEM wheels and put on these new ones. I think they look much better and I do notice the range increase, which was important to me because the Performance has the lower range number.
I do think this product is better because it snaps in place like other wheel covers, the other products sticky tape was never a good idea. But there is no worry about not having clips on the outside. Think about it for a second the Tesla wheels covers don't have outside clips. Rimetrix wheel covers don't have outside clips and I had those when I used to own a Model 3, not once did they come off.
Not sure that removing that tape was a good idea. Yes, it fits tighter but even small vibrations will cause it to rub the paint off the wheels, so you might want to check it periodically.
Yea thanks Tesla. I messed with the tape and found ways to put it on that kept it from toughing the tire. It was just the solid piece around the top that I had trouble with on two of the rims. The there two it went on just fine so I am not sure what the issue was there. Yea the 18" offer more protecting but I can pick up chicks better with the 20" :)

There is actually numerous driving techniques that allows you to not hit curbs. I have a 2018 Model 3 (March 2018) and have the stock wheels on it and they are in mint condition, never been “curbed”. I am the only driver of the car. About 80% of my daily driving is in the city of Chicago. One tip to avoid curb rash is to never swoop in close to a parallel street parking spot. Come in wide and back it in tight using the back-up cameras white lines and the side mirrors. Most of the time in the city you are backing into the spot because it’s just one available spot between two cars.

You would have to take them off if you ever needed a tire repair or were changing tires, right?
I wonder if hot temperatures, like what we get in central California in the summer time or in the desert southwest, would make these rim protectors more likely to come off?
The Vredestein Quattrac pros stick out, but I prefer the Hankooks.
As a Tesla owner with boku curb rash what do I think? I think the fat tire solution that you pointed out on your Mazda would be the best solution. Wonder why Tesla doesn’t do that?

1:47 I seriously doubt they _fell_ off. It was probably an impact. I've had MagBak protectors on for several months. None of them even looked close to coming off. The tape isn't there to hold the sections on, _at least mine weren't_ . Mine only had the one sided protective film as shown at 6:45, there was no tape intended to hold the segments on. I put over 2,000 miles on the car and the segments stayed put. I needed to replace half of a wheel because I rashed a tire again. The MagBaks came off then. The bad thing about reordering is, at the time I ordered the replacements, you couldn't order a single tire..it had to be a complete set of four.
Don't get me wrong the Magbak are a great option and I have endorsed them for years. Since this is my wife's car I can't say why that one was off. To behest I didn't even know it was missing until I started this review. Mine are definilty stuck on by two sided tape and clipping to each other.
@@CfTesla They must’ve changed the application process. I was worried mine were going to fly off but I think the attachment points and centrifugal force keep them secured. I walked around the car twice after the initial install pushing each piece to make sure it was in place. Thanks for your review.
My magbaks had no tape just a ppf sticker and I have changed them out one time and had no issues. Not sure maybe magbak changed things after your purchase
This is my thought as well. I have heard this from a few people. Smart on their part. They are a good product no double. This is just a much easier to install alternative.

The ability to be able to order separate replacements off their website and the ease of replacement is a nice. Although once you have a replacement segment for MagBak's you could potentially fix rashes on multiple tires if the damage isn't extensive. With these Vion covers one would need a ≅ $110 cover for each rash.
Yea I think that will be the main decision people will have to decide on. They may not stick to your rim with tape but they will be expensive to replace.
It's not $110 for each wheel, that's for a set of 4.
@@Resist4 The pricing is quite a bit better than MagBak but it would still require the purchase of an entire set at $110 to replace one tire as they don’t come per wheel.
@@skyserf They are actually $109 per set, but you are correct they don't sell them individually yet. I would still purchase another set because you would want spares, if they do start selling them individually it would be cheaper per cover to buy the set. When I had Rimetrix wheel covers I was glad I had another set because I eventually curbed several of the first set.
I have to say I am disappointed with MagBak’s solution because it seems that (in my case) the plastic has actually split in many places where the segments meet the outside rim edge. This is without side impact, although it could have been due to potholes. The Vion solution might be better but at over $100 for each wheel it’s only about $50 less than getting a wheel professionally restored (ground down and repainted). I have had this done once and it cost me $150 and the wheel looked like new. I might rip off the MagBak plastic segments and go naked. 😊
It's $109 for the whole set, 4 wheels, so if you had to replace one it is just over $25 although at the time you can't buy them individually since they are too expensive to ship but you would have a bunch of spares if you did. I would recommend giving them a try. I have been liking them.

I don't understand this curb rash thing. I mean rubbing the sidewalls of your tires on regular ICE vehicles is not exactly ok 🙂 either.
Not ok but doesn't damage your wheel. I am not sure why some people, my wife and I, seem to hit them all.
