Eva sings with a breathy voice, very calm and balances on the edge where the vocal cords almost stops making a sound, making her voice sound so incredibly beautiful. It must be very very difficult to sing the song like that. And she does it in a way that is totally captivating.
Her guitar work is also exceptional. She is playing a duet with herself. Almost beyond belief. But there it is. No words. I too am crying. She is gone 10+ months later. Thank you Eva.
When I was a child in the early 1960’s,the Wizard of Oz would be on t.v. once each year and I was,and still am,a fan of Judy Garland. So year after year,I listened to her rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. But then someone played Eva’s version and for the first time,I actually HEARD and felt the lyrics! Judy’s version touched my heart, for sure, but Eva’s touches my soul! I have listened to it/watched it many times now and rarely without tears. I truly appreciate your honest, emotional reactions to this wonderful, forever young woman. Thank you for taking me along with you on this journey!❤️❤️
same, as a child in the early 60's I looked forward to Wizard of Oz every year. Judy Garland sang it beautifully. Even though Eva Cassidy's version is so much more emotional I don't think her version would have worked for the movie.
I've been listening to Eva for maybe a decade. Angels just pour from her mouth every time she sings. Beyond stunning. Check out her versions of Autumn Leaves and Danny Boy.
Eva affects us, body and soul; her voice, her arrangements, her music just grabs you. Life isn't fair indeed, she was taken way too soon. Her song Blues In The Night is a whole different vibe, and I guarantee she'll blow your mind. Love your reactions, thank you so much for reacting to Eva Cassidy.
The voice of an angel. Every time I see this she gets me and I tear up. She was taken from us way too soon and the world is a lesser place without her in it. Rest in peace Eva you beautiful soul.
This is one oof those rare unique performances that you experience once in a lifetime and you know leaves you touched by an angel. Once more your personal reaction moved me so!
I think most here know that Eva passed away approximately 10 to 11 months after this performance. There are those that question if she knew of her fate at the time of this performance. Reliable sources say she did not. But what gets to me most is that her tone, expression, the look in her eyes, her appearing to sing toward the heavens, all of those things tell me she knew. It is beautiful yet haunting. RIP Eva
Of all the hundreds of reactors I have watched and listened to, you two are by far my favourites. You always react with your emotions which, to me, is the whole point of all creative arts, especially music. It is so very evident how invested in the song, and performance, you both are. Eva Cassidy was an amazing artist. A stunning musician, singer and human being. She touched the heart of millions of people the world over ..... and she most definitely touched your souls. Thank you both for you beautiful human nature. My sincere love to you both. You are wonderful. ❤🙏
This song makes me emotional anyway. It's a song about dreaming and wishing about an escape from the troubles of your reality - about hope. And in 1939, I imagine there weren't very many people who couldn't relate to this. But when Eva delivers the song, that hope starts to sound more like a lament. It's haunting and beautiful.
You see quite clearly through to the heart of Eva's magic - she sings about a quite unique Universe which we are privileged to enter for a short time as she sings, and then try to recall until the next song takes us back there again.
Interesting note : this video of her live performance at Blues Alley was not even discovered to be in existence until 4 years after her death. (A friend of hers had filmed it on a cam corder while attending the performance.) The video was cleaned up and sharpened and then synchronized with the audio tape that her band recorded of that same live performance to get better sound quality and then in 2000 they aired it on Top of the Pops show in the UK. It became the most requested video ever on their show.
My lovely mum (rest now mamma❤😢) adored Eva Cassidy. I will never tire of watching Andrei react to the emotional songs, cos we can cry together. I would love to put my arms around him and try to make it better, like a mum would. 🫂❤️
Gets me every time. An old well known song took on such new meaning, depth & heartbreak when sung by this angel. What an interpretation ! Why do some people on this Earth waste their time being hurtful when the beauty of life is right there in this video. Great reaction guys as usual x
I was hoping you guys would get to this one from Eva! Such emotion! Occasionally an artist makes a song their's - and she did! It feels like this song came straight from her soul! Thanks for your reaction! Good one! And as usual, enjoyed watching your reaction!
Sad that Eva never fully appreciated how talented she was. How many talents have we missed. Their magic never saw the light of day. Fortunately we got a glimpse of Eva’s magic before she left us.
She was dying of cancer and not very long after recording this song ,Eva passed away. She truly put part of her soul into this song so that it would live forever….and it does Everytime someone takes to listening to her sing this song.
Eva Cassidy, with every song she sings a cover of, provides the most emotionally intuitive interpretations that are delivered with control and intentionality because she immerses herself in it and becomes a part of the song she sings. The spirit of the song resonates vocally from within her. I have heard this song so many times and yes it very often sounds sad and maybe that's because we know she passed soon after. To me though, she sings it most thoughtfully so that every word, phrase and even pause is pregnant with reflection and meaning. You should really listen to her sing "Blues in the Night". Though I have not found a video recording the audio no less captures her incredible vocal gifts that are vibrantly bluesy and spicy. It's fantastic and very different from the more mellow, and reflective, or sad sounding interpretations that still leave us with our emotions on the floor. Your reaction to this song is a beautiful response right in line with any other reactor with a heart that beats even when they are slain with Eva's performance of this classic.
Right there with ya'll, feeling this one and feeling the loss of Eva. I can only hope that heaven is real and Eva's up there, and knows how her music continues to move people to this day.
"Over the Rainbow" 🌈 this one is very heart felt ❤, my favorite movie is "Wizard of Oz" Judy made me believe there was something better than the farm, so I to went over the Rainbow 🌈 to San Diego,California where I could be Gay without fear of hatred, June is PRIDE month and this song is perfect! 💞 another good cover of this song is by Hawaiian Israel Kamakawiwo'ole 💙 very heart felt also. Check it out 😂 Peace✌️ and Love❤️ Gary😊 Happy PRIDE month 🌈 great reaction
Well, whenever a list of best cover versions is made, they can only start from #2 downwards, And even then Eva would possibly fill other top 10 positions. When played on radio on initial release the most common comment seemed to be 'I was driving and had to pull over and listen' because the reaction was similar to yours today.
I must add that Eva was a hugely special soul. Yes, an Earth Angel. She never courted fame and fortune and she should stand as a reminder to all those egotistical " wannabe's " that the success of any true artist should never be measured by the commercialism and prostitution of their talent but rather by how many people they can connect their message to. So many " so called " artists and musicians out there, in today's consumerist society, are driven by a lust for money and fame ..... Eva stayed true to her art and her humanity 🙏
Hey guys , coming to u from Kentucky U.S.A, I’m a super fan of your channel , love u guys , I was waiting for you to react to her version , she truly is an angel , you two are beautiful , god bless you
Eva Cassidy - Over The Rainbow and David Bowie - Wild Is The Wind. Two of the greatest vocal performances of our times...and the similarities are remarkable. Both shot in black and white. Both artists singing from the heart and holding notes beyond human comprehension. Both making the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. Both bringing tears to the eyes...and sadly...both now performing with the angels. Thank you both for your beautiful reactions to these two remarkable songs.
Eva Cassidy had so many genres in her music, Jazz, Blues, Folk, Country and Gospel, She never wanted to be pigeonedholded to any one genre of her music, So sadly most people therefore didn't get to know her beautiful music. It was only after her untimely death on November 2 1996 at age 33 of cancer would the world soon learn who Eva Cassidy truly was by the way of Great Britain. Eva Cassidy was an extremely shy young woman which didn't help her that much either A lot of young girls in Great Britain would try and become the next Eva Cassidy because they loved her voice so much and most not even knowing that she was no longer with us. Her documentary is very heartbreaking. Rest in Peace Eva Marie Cassidy February 2 1963 to November 2 1996.
Dominica if I was sitting on your left side watching this video with you, there would be two big tuff men with tears in their eyes 😂 Love your reactions guys.
It’s almost as if she knew that she was not long for this earth. Immensely talented and tragic figure. She would leave it all on the field as it were. Gone too soon but not before leaving us with something extraordinary and haunting to hold onto. Thank you Eva Cassidy
sad, dreamy, wistful, hopeful, contemplative, you can take what you want from this version. It makes me feel differently each time I hear it depending on the mood I enter with. The whole Live at Blues Alley album is brilliant and each song is so different.
She sings a song titled "Had I golden thread" it's a gospel song , While singing that song she uses all the power she has vocally ! She could shatter a wine glass 🍷
I don't know how reactors react to this song without breaking down and crying, I've watched/listened to this song sooo many times and still break down each time. So emotionally beautiful.
You should listen to Sydnie Christmas version from Britain's Got Talent 2024 also a stunning performance. She actually won the competition and was a golden buzzer winner for her version of Tomorrow from the movie Annie.
Eva sings with a breathy voice, very calm and balances on the edge where the vocal cords almost stops making a sound, making her voice sound so incredibly beautiful. It must be very very difficult to sing the song like that. And she does it in a way that is totally captivating.
Written by Arlen and Harburg
Sung by Judy Garland
Owned by Eva Cassidy
Yes, whenever I think of this song I think of Eva. It's hers now.
Yip Harburg has to be smiling in the heavens at this version of his beautiful words.
I have not heard it said that way before, but I will borrow that if I may.
Exactly right, Gary!!!
Best description ever!!
Her guitar work is also exceptional.
She is playing a duet with herself.
Almost beyond belief.
But there it is.
No words.
I too am crying.
She is gone 10+ months later.
Thank you Eva.
It really is.
Obviously, her voice is incredible. But, that is some seriously beautiful finger picking on that guitar.
She was special an angel from god❤
Andrei. Don’t be ashamed of showing your emotions. It’s only natural when you listen to something as beautiful as this.
A short life, gift from God. Thank you for sharing.
Eva brings a bit of heaven to earth. We like to believe she is in heaven, somewhere over the rainbow.

You said it exactly right. With Eva you actually hear and feel the song.
Heavenly is how I would describe this, wonderful reaction, loved it
I was among those who had never heard of Eva until I ran across this video of her performance. Such a loss.
I've been listening to Eva for maybe a decade. Angels just pour from her mouth every time she sings. Beyond stunning. Check out her versions of Autumn Leaves and Danny Boy.
We did Autumn Leaves, an amazing song. Please search in our videos. Thank you 😊
Until a radio DJ in Britain ( the late Terry Wogan )pioneered her work she was unknown here. Thank you Terry and Eva for enhancing our lives so much
She was unknown everywhere until that.
No. We knew her here in Alexandria, VA. She had a lot of friends.@thegroovetube3247
Best version ever.
She was also a great artist, I have one of her paintings. It’s a nature landscape of her aunt Dorthea’ s wildflowers.❤️
So beautiful RIP God has a new angel in heaven ❤️
It is my opinion rhat she knew she was dying and she was singing about going to heaven. Your reaction was the same as mine. Heartfelt rendition,
I'm with you, Andrei. It always leaves me with a heavy heart too, and yet, I'll never get enough of watching and hearing this performance.
I think because she was never going to be here long, she was given her Angel voice here on Earth.💔🐝😞
So glad you finally reacted to this one....to me the best female voice of our lifetime....
Not only the possessor of a beautiful voice but a wonderful guitarist as well. She was so talented and is badly missed. Rest in peace Eva.
The voice of an angel. Every time I see this she gets me and I tear up. She was taken from us way too soon and the world is a lesser place without her in it. Rest in peace Eva you beautiful soul.
Perfect perfect arrangement, beautiful delicate guitar and a vocal so extraordinary. Instantly timeless rendition..

Ohh...Eva... 😍Most beauty, and pain - together... RIP angel.
This is one oof those rare unique performances that you experience once in a lifetime and you know leaves you touched by an angel. Once more your personal reaction moved me so!
Songs from the same concert. NIGHTBIRD, WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD. Saludos :)
And she had a cold at the time. Truly one of the greatest voices ever recorded. Loved her since the 90s.
What did she die of?
Sadly she died of melanoma.
Such beautiful and honest reactions. Much love and respect to both of you.

I cry every time this is magic simply magic
You should listen to her version of The song Blues in the Night, it really shows her range. A true Masterpiece.
I really love this song thank you so much for sharing cx

just so lovely to share this beautiful moment with you both .. with Eva ... A gift that keeps on giving.
EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear Eva sing this....I unabashedly bawl my eyes out. Thank you for your tender hearts. I LOVED this reaction.
Your wife was immediately moved by the song. I can see that she feels music. What a gift
Most emotional rendition I have ever heard❤
w all cry when we hear her sing ... we all love her ... because her music helps us to strive to be better people
Don't worry folks, it took me only 10 years to be able to listen this without crying.. Now I only feel joy when I hear her sing...
Still sobbing ❤
You see quite clearly through to the heart of Eva's magic - she sings about a quite unique Universe which we are privileged to enter for a short time as she sings, and then try to recall until the next song takes us back there again.
Thank you for really getting it. Eva is pure beauty and you see it. Thank you.
She’s extraordinary. Never fails to move me no matter how many times I listen to her. Love your reactions.
wonderful reaction and if you have not heard Eva's version of stormy Monday it is soul moving
I cannot think of any other song where I prefer a cover version to the original! Beautiful, amazing!!

Eva is simply an angel.
So tragic we didnt get more.
Watch this concert (or listen to it) in its entirety. It is brain changing.
Thank you so much for the reaction. Eva sings to your soul. She connects people to music differently.
Her version of "Fields of Gold' was my first discovery of Eva Cassidy. RIP songbird Eva Cassidy 🙏
simply stunning such a sad loss
My lovely mum (rest now mamma❤😢) adored Eva Cassidy.
I will never tire of watching Andrei react to the emotional songs, cos we can cry together. I would love to put my arms around him and try to make it better, like a mum would. 🫂❤️

I bet she's an angel now, singing welcome songs when people enter heaven...🎶
Sad that Eva never fully appreciated how talented she was. How many talents have we missed. Their magic never saw the light of day. Fortunately we got a glimpse of Eva’s magic before she left us.

Transcendent! That's the word.
To be at that performance was to be in the presence of greatness…. I envy the audience…
I adore both of you. You are so sweet and lovely. 💕
Eva Cassidy - Over The Rainbow and David Bowie - Wild Is The Wind.

This may well be the single most emotive vocal of all time. OMG.
Beautiful reactions--thank you!
Dude she gets me every time too. It’s ok to be happy and sad about it.
Her performance of "Danny boy" is to bring tears to your eyes.
Beautiful. 😢😢.RIP Eva.
Dominica if I was sitting on your left side watching this video with you, there would be two big tuff men with tears in their eyes 😂 Love your reactions guys.
Eva's voice can melt the toughest of us. Thank you for watching 😊💚
She sounds so melancholy 😢
Your wife is an Angel. For real!!!! A kind, kind human being!!!!
Thank you 😊

Incredible bittersweet performance. Whenever I hear this I cry.
Gone way too soon. Great job guys
Great reaction, Eva really had an unbreakable voice, what an unbelievable performance........
I love her arrangement of this classic. And her vocals....arguably one of the most underrated voices of all-time. Taken from us too soon.
sad, dreamy, wistful, hopeful, contemplative, you can take what you want from this version. It makes me feel differently each time I hear it depending on the mood I enter with. The whole Live at Blues Alley album is brilliant and each song is so different.
"breathtaking", "nobody like her", pretty much sums her up!
Mystery girl roy orbison next plz.great song and his vocals are insane.
She sings a song titled "Had I golden thread" it's a gospel song , While singing that song she uses all the power she has vocally ! She could shatter a wine glass 🍷
For a little less sad side if Eva, try Stormy Monday from the same concert. Shows her blues side.
❤
Poor Eva….she left this world too soon.May God rest her soul.
I think of it as having a melancholy feeling and I love it
I don't know how reactors react to this song without breaking down and crying, I've watched/listened to this song sooo many times and still break down each time. So emotionally beautiful.
