Hey everyone. What I say in this video is NOT CORRECT. I will upload a video with the fix soon. I will leave this video up because it has a lot of info in regards to ways you can set up the BMPCC4K with media.
@@MartinAaberge Blackmagick had to update the cameras to get them to work, Lumix may have the same problem. The only thing I can tell you is that the *** 7T doesn't work, the one that works is the SAMSUNG *** T7 Shield ***. See if it's that or the Lumix firmware.
I just used the t7 shield and it messed my footage up. I filmed a comedy show and the footage is useless. Vertical lines, glitching. I feel sick to my stomach cause this happened. And it was an amazing show with great comedians. Does anyone know why this would happen? I regret not just spending an extra 150 on a smaller Cfast card at this point.
I gotta say. I am so disappointed in the Samsung T7 it's ridiculous. I've had so many problems with it more problems than I've ever had with any other drive. Like randomly deleting itself the very common disconnection. I straight just don't trust it anymore. Tried all sorts of stuff. Basically just a paperweight that I haven't gotten around to throwing away yet I will never buy another Samsung external drive. Honestly especially after hearing about some of the internal SSDS having problems as well I don't know if I'll ever get a Samsung drive again. And they were so renowned too. I've had luck with some of the internal drives but I'm definitely not going to recommend them any more like I have in the past. Thanks for your video
Sorry you had that experience. My T7 has not had any of the problems you describe, but that doesn't mean it is not an issue. Deleting itself is probably the worst thing that can happen to a drive...
I have no problems using the standard T7 with my 6K (1st gen) but it will not work with our URSA Mini 4.6K G2. Very strange that it doesn't seem like this issue is universal.
Just tested t7 Touch and it worked. Going to let it fill up the card and then test. In the past, when transferring files off the t7 touch it would crash.
@@MartinAaberge Yes. Upgraded to 7.3.3. Recording 6k 3:1 Braw right now. Camera has been rolling for 20 minutes. It's hot for sure. But seems to be maintaining write speeds. One thing I found on computer sites is that when a file or a batch of files goes over 250GB, the whole process slows down. So I'm going to test that out once this is done filling up. I stopped using this drive because it would from 1GB/s down to 13kb/s and then crash completely. I had to offload files one at a time for it to not overheat. EDIT. I also noticed at the NEW t7 Shield is listed as recommended by Blackmagic for the 12k camera. of course the dimensions are slightly different so I should have got the expanding cradle vs the closed one.
@@MartinAaberge Filled up an entire 1TB t7 Touch with all sorts of compression. 3:1, 8:1, QQ All good. However the next day on shoot I got a ton of dropped frames and stopped recordings on a T5. Might have been the cable. Offloading over 10G ethernet to a RAID had sustained 350MB/s read speeds over USB3.0. That kept it from overheating. Using UBS 3.1 or 3.2 ports the read speed went up to 1000, but then would throttle. So having that 3.0 bottleneck actually helps with the drive.
The t7 shield version works with bmpcc 4k/6k prox? I'm confused as hell. I know in theory it should work because of the data rate but I dont know for sure. Thanks for answering.
That’s my suggestion, yes. I don’t think the T7 will ever be able to record video. From what I’ve read, theories are that the T7 has a buffer to get to the advertised speed, and when that fills up, recording breaks. I wasn’t able to get Samsung to confirm this, but it would make sense…
Bro im so mad. I recorded an entire podcast video (braw 4120x2160, 30 fps) onto the t7…. It recorded.. i connect to my computer and the files show up via finder but wont open with any program, davinci, pp22, even a file converter wouldnt… but the files are 11 & 17 gb. So it recorded something but for ex. Everytime i try to import to premiere, it fails import with error: a read from open file failed. Davinci doesnt even know the files exist… im stumped and have exhausted all options… is there any way to fix this?
Have you tried exporting/encoding it to prores422? I have an upcoming video in the making of how you can write a python script using ffmpeg to convert it. If you experienced the same as I did, your files are basically just black. What firmware are you on? We were on 6.9.6 at the time, but I hear a firmware update is supposed to fix this so that’s also another video in the making :)
@@MartinAaberge I already updated and works great, but before of that I recorded some footage with another blackmagic 4k and It wasn’t updated and the footage was black like that comment so a don’t know what to do to save it or fixed.
Yeah. I feel it’s a bit of a hit or miss. Also, every time there is a firmware update, I have to check if something changed. I have another video where I show how it works after the firmware update. Check it out and see if it helps :)
@DanS Hi Dan, thank you for your wonderful comment. I see you are interested in my mission and goals for running a UA-cam channel. Thank you for asking. I enjoy the craft and the lovely community. I love to help and I love to create. I’m sure the updated video must have slipped by your radar. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/zSWZYooxql4/v-deo.html I also lost access to the BMPCC4K so it isn’t as easy to test anymore. I did borrow one the other day and the T7 still seemed to work on the previous firmware. Haven’t tested the latest that just came out. We ran into some battery issues and I haven’t checked the material, but it did seem to record fine on a T7 BRAW Q0 4K 24p. We ran it for around 5 minutes. Let me know if you have any additional questions and I’ll see what I can do ✌️
Thank you for the feedback. What exactly do you feel ruined the experience for you? Was it the volume? The echo? or something else? Cause I don't find it terrible, so I would like to learn how to improve moving forward.
I don't have the 6K G2 at hand, but now that all the drives you list should work, it is a matter of looking at the data transfer your settings require. Check Niessner's chart here which will give you a better understanding of the requirements :D
Well, you know what they say. Sound is half of the experience :p I'm back at the Film Office so I can check out the firmware update next week :D Probably going to do a video on it ;)
