    If its a heavy mirror using the same type anchors and screws Do it have to be in a stud in the wall or it would be fine??

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Rashee,
      The anchors supplied by the mirror company we used is enough to hang the mirror. The only caution is to make sure that the anchor holes you drill are the size which are in the supplied directions. If you bought the anchors separate from the mirror, make sure they are rated to hold the weight of the mirror.
      Our preference is to hang heavy mirrors on studs, but sometimes that is not possible.
      If you are looking for a little more holding power, you might want to look into butterfly wall anchors or toggle wall anchors.
      Thx for watching.

    Hi
    Nice video. I want to hang a 30 by 66 inch frameless mirror. It is about 75 pounds. Would it be safe to use 3 metal j shape mirror holders screwed directly into the studs?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Brooke,
      that’s a lot of weight. I would check that the hangers could carry the weight. Should be listed on the package - or call the manufacturer. It’s too dangerous to get that wrong. So check and double check.
      Thx for watching!

    Hey Just a quick question, I would like to hang heavy mirror on plasterboard wall. There are wires or cables behind the wall as detected by stud finder. Does that mean I cannot hang the mirror on that spot ? or Can I use wall anchors and that works fine ? Please help.

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  5 років тому +1

      Hey Justfor...,
      Knowing that there are wires behind there means you have to be extra careful and slow when drilling any holes.
      It helps to know if those wires are in conduit or just bare wires.
      To be safe I would make an exploratory hole away from the wires ( but which would still be covered by the mirror) .
      Then slip a mirror or phone into the hole and see what the situation is.

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  5 років тому +1

      Hey Justfor...
      Another possibility ( if you don’t want to mess with patching the wall behind the mirror ) would be make a hole with a hammer and screwdriver. The screwdriver is pretty blunt and shouldn’t hurt the wires like a drill could. BUT if you have plaster and lath (wood slats ) behind it, the lath will just pull away.
      It’s all about going S L O W and careful.

    How many lbs is that mirror? Roughly how many lbs do those type of anchors support?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Martina,
      That mirror was probably 20 -30 lbs. Just guessing - It’s been some time since we made that video....
      The anchors come in all different sizes and have the working limit on the packages.

    Do you know what the sticker tabs for behind the mirror are called?? I’m trying to locate them.

      Hey Vivianne,
      Try searching online “Scotch™ Self-Stick Bumpers,”
      I believe they are made of silicon .
      Hope that helps.

    What if the actual mirror doesn’t have the hooks to hang on the back?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  4 роки тому +2

      Hey Lizbeth,
      1st - is it framed? A wood frame can have hooks added. If it is not framed and not supplied with a way to add them, big box stores carry mounting clips to attach to the wall and then slide the mirror in to place. If it’s a new mirror, I’d try and reach out to manufacturer. Otherwise, I’d see what the big box hardware stores have that might address your particular situation.
      Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

    What kind of anchors for a 55lb mirror

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Joe,
      Personally, I always prefer to hang heavy stuff to a stud or two.
      That being said, you can buy “j” hooks online/Amazon ( make sure the listed weight is 50 lbs.)
      They have a very small nail and say that they do not need to be on the stud-drywall is fine.
      The nail is pointed down at 45 degrees or so. It’s design takes advantage of physics and the strength of the nail.
      You have options - personal preference.
      Thanks for watching.

      Hi John, we were able to track that faucet down. We bought it from Wayfair. It is the Widespread Bathroom Faucet by Luxier, XIER1076, for $113.00, but we get a volume discount. That faucet is awesome! Love the sleek look, the handles are thin and stylish. Let us know if you buy it what you think of it. Thanks for the question!

    Ok so let me just get things straight here:
    1. If you locate the studs, can you just drive a nail through the drywall and into the stud without the need for an anchor? Is it better to use a nail for this or a screw? Can a drywall anchor go into a stud? Will a nail provide enough support for a 25lb mirror?
    2. Can you hang the mirror on just a single stud with the other support being an anchor?
    Thanks

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  4 роки тому +3

      Hey 123...,
      1) yes. A nail or screw driven into a stud is very secure assuming it’s driven in far enough ( see below - “rule of thumb”.
      As an experiment - drive a nail into a board and try to pull it out with pliers. And a screw is virtually impossible to pull straight out with pliers.
      A good rule of thumb : Half the length of the nail or screw needs to be embedded in the WOOD. So if you typically have 1/2 inch thick drywall and the nail protrudes from the drywall 1/4 of an inch ( for a total of 3/4 of an inch not in the wood) then your screw or nail would need to be driven 3/4 inch into the wood. Thus the total length of the nail or screw would need to be 1.5 inches.
      A drywall anchor is unnecessary in a stud. Use a screw. Done!
      Drywall anchors come in all different kinds. The goal is to expand behind the backside of the drywall or apply greater friction thru expansion so that the screw is harder to pull out of the drywall. Drywall anchor work to a degree, but not as well as a screw into wood.
      2) perfectly fine.
      Thanks for asking and watching!

    Hi, HouseBarons
    Can mirrors be glued to drywall with adhesive e.g heavy duty mounting tape along with with any type of adhesive or glue on the back of the mirror against the drywall or does it only apply to concrete walls only?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Antonio,
      We don’t have experience with gluing mirrors to walls. Only have seen it on tv. A custom glass company might have a better idea of what is possible and glues that work.

    How can you add the hooks yourself when it's just a mirror its self

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Norma,
      With just a mirror, you might be able to find hooks that stick to the back, but I’m not sure of that.
      I know there are kinds of clips that grab the bottom edge and top edge of the mirror holding it to the wall.
      And then there is the option to build/buy a frame for the mirror which of course could have hooks added to the sides.
      All depends on your decor and the goal of your final look.
      Hope that helps. Thx for watching!

      Adhesive can be used but that method makes is difficult to change to a different style.
      But as you suggest - it is an additional option to chose from.

    You don’t need to find studs?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  3 роки тому

      Hey Kai,
      The directions for the mirror will typically tell you. You can get drywall anchors for heavy objects - you just have to make sure the anchors can handle the weight of the objects.
      But IF possibles, hanging a mirror on studs is the best way - solid!
