Just a note: My grandmother once told me, that she never names the animals she's planning to butcher. If they have a name they were pets or breeding stock only. You guys have done so much on the property. It looks good. Happy New Years to you both...
I know a family that came from Austria. They, too, never named the animals they were to butcher. Guard dogs usually live outside with the animals they guard. They are his family.
You both have ridden the roller coaster of emotions this year from such joy and elation at getting the property to the loss of Floyd. Lots of tedious and slow work with the house that no one will ever see but you know is there and done properly. Be proud of this year and what you have accomplished. And I'm gonna say thank you for that glimpse of the pig carcass in the front loader (even though I'd studiously skipped the pig harvesting episode due to personal qualms), for pushing me to lean harder into strict pescatarianism in my own life. No, MW hasn't been able to make it to our homestead yet but he hopes to once Spring rolls around. It is such a blessing to have these videos to look back on. I honestly do not remember the house without all the trees around it so seeing the video is like...wow, what a transformation.
