I swear whenever I am looking at different amps that I wanna buy this channel never fails to make these things sound absolutely great every time. I thought I recognised that riff at 1:50 One armed scissor. Never thought I would hear that on a vox amp. Man these little vox amps have some guts!
I’ve had both amps and at low-to-moderate volume, the AC10 can sound saucy and refined. Never got a great recorded sound but in the room it had a certain sweetness to it the AC15 didn’t have (at similar volumes mind you).
Thanks for this comparison. The AC10 sounds good. Then the AC15 takes it to a whole other level. I can’t wait get my AC15 head later this week. I’ve gotta get going on building the cabinet for my Celestion Goldback speaker I found on the side of the road. Yeah, it was near a crossroads.
AC15 much warmer .... but the AC10 doesnt weight much, you can carry it everywhere by yourself ... at it sounds Rad !!!! too ... i f you dont compare side by side ... both sounds Great ... and Loud !!!!! Ac15 its the "full package" ... but my back would make me choose the Ac10 ... :P
Rad! Like hearing these differences between same brands. Could you do one with maybe blackface vs silver face vs brown / tweed fender? Or something of that sort. Would be cool to see
I’ve owned both amps. At moderate bedroom/home volumes, I prefer a 10” speaker (Princeton Reverb, anyone?). The AC10 can sound fantastic in the room like this. I found the AC15 wanted the master volume up a bit to really relinquish the toanz. Great for live use, but lackluster in my experience for low volume cookin’. Great demo format as always!
Love your comment. Thanks. I was hesitating between these two models.... Since i always play in my bedroom at low volume and don't play in a band, you just answered my question with your comment. Thanks again.⭐
I have an AC10C1 in Vintage Black it’s a great classic rock product but sometimes can be to quiet on stage especially outdoor unfortunately and a sm57 in front is not enough, enough for others but not for me and my band
What I found so weird when playing these 2 amps in person, the AC10 is so much more fun and enjoyable to play and sounds really good. The gain tones seem so much better. The AC15 is great, love the tremolo. BUT, the AC15 seems to record so much better to my ears.
I really like my AC10, but you start getting dirt and break up with the gain at 9 o'clock with a good set of humbuckers. I'm worried it doesn't have the headroom to play out with. Considering moving up to the ac15 or the ac30s1
Really considering the Vox ac15 head version. What do you think of it compared to the orange OR15? They both seem to do the edge of breakup sound pretty well.
AC15 to me is quite scooped in the lower mid-range whereas the Orange has much fatter low mids. I prefer the Orange for the stuff I play, although the AC15 is a classic. The Orange has better Higher Gain tones. Edge of breakups are both great on both amps. I do like that the Vox head has an attenuator and reverb built in. It's really a preference as both are great. 👍
@@TobysGuitarGearDemos cool, thanks. I was thinking about getting an eq pedal to try to make the orange sound more “voxy” but I wasn’t sure if that would work well. If not I’ll probably get the Vox.
thing is...i've both amps. ok. had. now I've the ac10 w/ a celest. blue. forget pedals. the sustain on the ac10 is crazy. the amp alone sustains bonkers. also it's hella loud.
Toby, question: my AC10 has a lot noise coming from it as soon as you go past the 1/4 point on the gain and volume. Is this par for the course. When I go to half on the gain and volume or more the 'static' noise is unbearable.
Hmm It does have some noise but not enough to hear it over what you are playing. It might need new pre-amp tubes, I've had other amps in the past that were noisy and I swapped in a different preamp tube to get rid of the noise
I don't have the Vox, but the Nux really impressed me. The VX15GT looks cool though, I like the rotary switch for all the amp models. The old Vox Valvetronix stuff sounded brilliant so I would think the new ones are equally good. Might be one for the future 👍
Lyle from Psionic Audio (maybe the best amp tech on UA-cam) loves the AC-15 but thinks the AC-10 is total garbage. I bought one new and ended sending it back cuz of the excessive noise…couldn’t get a good recorded sound out of it to save my life. It looked really cool though.
I've got two, I liked the first one I got so much that I got another. The one I left alone but the other I did some mods on. I cut 5 inches off the back panel to make it into a semi-open back cab. I modified the chassis and moved some components around to accommodate a bigger speaker. I made a new baffle out of 1/2" ply and fitted it with a 12" greenback, I wanted a blue alnico but too expensive for now. I can stack them one on top and play in stereo and it's freaking awesome!
The 12" speaker on the AC15 just sounds "right" to me. Would be interested in the AC10 through the same 12".
The AC 10 has a choked sound at say 1:57. If it isn’t the speaker that’s not good news.
ac10 through a Cel. Blue is rad.
Speakers sets the tone, mine with Blue Alnico.
It IS right
@@jaycee30865 choked? not sure. to get good overdrive the master needs to be below the gain level
Your videos are the absolute best amp videos on UA-cam. Period.

it's likely when you take them home-they wont sound that good !
Really great comparison! Personally I prefer AC15. A bit fuller sounding and more open. But the small AC10 is really impressive.
Definitely prefer the AC15. The AC10 has this lo-fi sound to it, where it has very pronounced mids and doesn't really have highs.
Yes...my decision was clear already at 00:13

I agree, the AC10 is great at low volumes, the AC15 needs volume 👍

Thanks for the At The Drive In jam. Did I hear some Northstar in there as well?

Really good video - kudos! I love the AC-10, I tamed the V1 with a 12AU7. Lovely amp .
I love the AC15C1!
Beautiful tone
Great sound comparison! I prefer the AC15, of course! If money were no object....
Towards the end I heard a microphonic tube on the ac15.

Yeah I found AC15 is quite a bit louder with cleans, way more than you'd think for 5 watts difference 👍

Yeah Vox is quite distinctive, if you want that tone go Vox 🤘
I wonder how the AC 10 would sound through an extension cab?
Nice demo. How about a video comparing some pedal size power amps? Mooer Baby Bomb, Quilter MicroBlock/Interblock, EH 44 Magnum, Carvin Mach 100, etc?
Wow that Mooer is tiny and powerful, might be one for the future 👍
@@TobysGuitarGearDemos what song did you play at 0:29?
I can apreciate more bells in the AC10. The AC15 sounds good but more close and dark.
Was the opening comparison "Decent days and nights" by The Future heads? Are you a Burnout 3: Takedown fan?
Burnout was the soundtrack of 14 year old me 👍
AC 10 sounds great with a 10" Greenback and a P90 guitar. Can get some lovely raw sounds.
Does the ac10 upgradeable with any speaker? Some says it wont fit
@@vicenteortiz8521 All I can tell you is the 10" Greenback fits with no problem at all. No idea about other speakers.
the gain needs to be well above the master to get good overdrive

And how about the sustain?
@@vicenteortiz8521 you can upgrade the speaker, just not to a Blue like you can in the AC30 or AC15.

What is the riff at 0:29 ? Such a familiar melody
I do wonder too, it kinda sounds like something out of final fantasy

AC15 sounds way more "Vox", AC10 would sit much better in a mix
pretty sure it's the speaker but the ac10 sounds like a toy
HP 12/ hp 10....
I bought ac10 just because I move quite often and the ac10 won’t destroy my back
