I figured this out after many deaths. I wish I had come here first. This is a great mission for beginner because it has no gear requirements beyond just a starter ship. You also learn evasive maneuvering & boosting which are the #1 most important skills to learn first in Star Citizen. Whenever I lose everything and near 0 UEC, I come back to this mission to earn some money to start building back up again.
Is this similar to the illegal miner sentry missions, where the sats are _technically_ not criminals and so stations might attack you if you go straight back (because you're technically an aggressor)? I wonder if it's because there's no pilot, and the criminality of a ship is a factor of who is piloting it?
I haven't tried that contract yet so I can't answer you. However, your reasoning sounds good. I'll investigate and try to work out the Illegal Miner Sentry missions. However, I was not attacked by the station when I returned from this mission. Have you tried the mission in the latest patch?
@@TheBoffinLabs I last tried during the last free week. I haven't checked to see if the issue was fixed by any minor patches after that though. I noticed it would happen when heading to the nearest station after completing the mission, so someone hypothesized I had a short-duration local aggro timer on me (the sites were in asteroids within a few 100 km of stations) even if it didn't give me an actual crimestat. In hindsight, one time I got blown up while docking which I thought was the work of some griefer sniping me, might have been the station itself (you are cleared to land... and to die!).
@@Nerd_Detective I am really interested in testing this out more from a bug hunting viewpoint than a video viewpoint. I tried a mission today where I was sent to destroy satellites used by claim jumpers and had no issues BUT I did not fire a shot at any of the ships defending the zone. There may be some interesting things to test here. Can you give me the exact contract name when you next log in? I want to be sure I'm testing the right one.
@@TheBoffinLabs I popped in to test it out just now. I accepted a Remove Claimjumpers (the 10K one) for CRU L4. This point has a nearby station (CRU Shallow Fields) within a few 100 km from the mining claims. After engaging the sentries (and a hostile prospector), I immediately QT'd to the station. As soon as I entered range, it engaged with missiles and then sentry guns as I got closer. I evaded the the fire and went to Seraphim Station. There I was not targeted, so I suspect this hostility is flagged to the local station. Hypothesis: the sentries are engaged close enough that the station detects it, and sees it as the player committing "friendly fire."
@@Nerd_Detective Did you do a Bug report in the Issues Council? If you did then link it here and I'll test and I'll contribute to it. In my test, I left the area of the nearby station so I avoided that scenario by accident.
Thanks for video! Great content. Please keep them coming they're so helpful!
