Love this! So encouraging! I’m a few years into MP and it’s growing on us and our kiddos are doing well with it but it is a lot to juggle with three young kiddos… with God’s help we press on!

My daughter is 11. She still struggles with basic English Grammar and Arithmetic. How do I get her to understand these values like getting a liberal arts and humanities education. If the purpose is: to reflect the ideals and values of her culture and it's desired virtues, to be able to have a shared set of core or basic knowledge and reference points, and then better communicate with others, then I question the point? When I was a kid there was only 3-4 tv channels. When I went to school on Wednesday we talked about the Tuesday Happy Days episode. On Monday, we talked about the Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and Who Shot JR. Today I work with 20-40 year old men who still grade the quality and strength of their farts and then I listen to my daughter talk about animatronic cartoons and her favorite UA-cam hosts. I haven't seen many adults that can hold down an intellectually stimulating conversation on an occasional bases, let alone consistently and most employers expect rudimentary annual training and U.N. global values and citizenry skills. No one wants the freedom or liberty of thought. It's too much hard work with no benefits. Who wants to be around an independent thinker or a wave maker at work or in the home? Not seeing the practical side today.

The benefits are not always seen straight away. Lay a strong foundation and you will reap where w
you have sown. We must train our children to love what is good. I have four children, all of whom by the grace of God, are able to be classically educated. The days are long. My strength so small. But God gives grace all the more. My boys still love their video games, sometimes inappropriate music, those atrocious farts that are followed by loud laughter. Sometimes they complain, yet I believe if I keep preparing the table, inviting them to feast on goodness and virtue, they will one day hunger for it so much so that they will desire to seek after the things of God, whenever and wherever they are. It's hard, but little by litttle, you can help lead the way. The world is fighting for our attention, our hearts and our minds. I too have an 11 year old daughter and thought to myself how could I teach her to appreciate and value these things and I was reminded again that I have to show her, invite her on a journey together reading the classics and right now it's only a few pages a time. We all study Latin together and the Greek myths. I can't tell you how it all fits, but I believe the benefits outweigh the unknown for me. I have to trust that what I am doing now will reap a harvest. It's a road of sacrifice and humility; of falling and getting back up. I learn with my kids. That's how I show them how to value beauty and virtue . We have to slow down. Many people may not want to be around my kids, but even more so, at the end of the I want them to be able to be at peace with themselves knowning that they sought after truth, strived to make the best choices, and If not be able to be encouraged to keep moving forward in all they do.
