Very good review and spot-on. Got mine recently and it is pretty awesome. I test drove the SEL and then the N-Line - no contest. I could not pass it up. So far, it's a great ride.
I drove both the kona N vs N- line and yes there was a difference of 80 hp but the ride is smoother on the N- line and the interior is nicer on the N- line plus an added sunroof not available with the N..Both were awesome..couple of notes to mention.Big difference when u ride in sport mode.steering is tighter and shifts quicker, much more responsive.N-line needs to be driven in sport mode only,in my honest opinion! N is faster but i found the fwd at times pulls in one direction and also i didnt like the options of adjusting the suspension and exhaust and other features on the car.Why u ask ?i The more adjustments u have electronically The more opportunities for something to really go wrong..my opionion is setting the 5k difference in price if u are going to not drive the vehicle everyday for long periods of time then the N may be for u...But if u use the vehicle everyday and have fairly long commute, then the N-line is a much better choice! The N is 22mpg vs 34mpg N-line..I hope this was helpful!
I bought my wife a 2022 Kona N-line and she loves it. The body style and sweet rims sets it apart from all other compact suv's. The sound system rocks and the instrument cluster with the rotating 3d cubes is super cool. It's just my wife and I, so this is the perfect car for us.

I can't wait for your on throttle when you get your hands on the Kona N. I'm not really an SUV crossover guy, but Hyundai is knocking it out the park. Great review as always Joe!!
The one thing I totally agree with Joe is all the hard touch plastics. Come on Hyundai, for close to a $30k N-Line version, at least have some soft touch material on the doors and dashboard.
It's nice enough. A real 6-speed would hide some performance zonks. Overall, I'd wait for a real N, and hope for the best. Great review, Joe. Thanks for all you do in bringing us all the videos, Lori

I’m deciding between this, the 2022 Kia Soul, the 2021 Mazda CX-30, the 2021 Nissan Kicks, and the Volkswagon Tiguan. Would love to see an updated video on the new Soul EX!
Put this front on the Santa Fe! Put LED's on those 3 hood slots. Nightfall edition please! The door interior is weak. Infotainment rocks! Need more Twizzler room too. No one likes theirs bent. Great job Joe & Lori.
Been waiting for this trim. I love my 2020 Elantra GT N-Line and Hyundai keeps bringing the bangers. It's too bad they didn't give it more horsepower- that's half the reason I got my N-Line,
Yes the N-Line should have included the 201hp version of the 1.6T, just like the Elantra N-Line. No other N-Line model in the Hyundai lineup doesn't include increased hp. Especially since the upcoming Elantra N and Kona N are also sharing powertrains. I like the monochrome look of the fender flares, however I feel without the color contrast of the black cladding, it makes the N-Line look a little slab sided. Kind of more like a PT Cruiser or Chevy HHR. I would go Mazda CX-30 Turbo in this class, at least until the N arrives. Re-evaluation will follow. Can't wait for your review. Thanks Queen Lori. 🙂
Great review! I think I'd rather go with A5 sport-back type of sedans rather than these compact SUVs. Otherwise I'd go with something bigger like the Kia Sorento. p.s. I don't understand why people dislike the video when they simply dislike the car
For rear wipers, it depends on how it looks. Toyota priuses would get a zonk bc it is so ugly. Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator would be a zonk because it just doesn’t look right. This one is fine because it is the perfect size and seems to blend in well with the rear window
It seems "okay" but for around the same money you could get that new baby bronco with the 4cyl ecoboost and have a much more capable and (in my opinion) better looking vehicle. Just maybe give Ford a couple of years to work out the new car kinks.
4 banger eco boost are shit. What are you talking about? And the broncos are already having torque converter problems out the gate. I smell a recall coming soon
Looks good but not enough for me to give up my Elantra GT N-Line. I have more room, more power, full leather seats, dual climate control, better suspension tuning and doors panels that are padded. It would be nice to have that 10.25 screen and blind spot monitoring but I’m good with what I have. This is not a true N-Line from Hyundai, much less anything I’d pay nearly 30K for. It’s more of an appearance package. Sad face☹️
@@marykreitz3043 It is the content of the package as a whole which makes it better in the Elantra GT (EGT) N-Line. Since you brought up the six more HP, let’s talk about the torque between the two. The EGT N-Line has peak torque of 195 ft-lbs at between 1500-4500 RPM, whereas the Kona N-Line has it at 4500 RPM. It is the torque that really makes the difference. Also, the Kona weighs more, by about 40-50 pounds. Even if I would have bought the EGT with a 6-speed manual, it still has more power and torque, and 90% of the equipment I’d want in my vehicle. The Kona does NOT come with a panoramic sunroof either. The top of the door panels are padded; something that cannot be said about the Kona. I could go on, but I believe I made a smart choice.
I just purchased a Kona NLine just like that one. So far it’s seems pretty good. Stay tuned. One note, my BlueLink isn’t working but they are getting to the bottom of that. It won’t register. Ps: I’m in Canada so don’t know if that makes and difference.
See this isn’t a bad small SUV in my opinion. Ppl like to bash small SUV’s for being small but they have everything packed together and close together so it isn’t hard.
I don't think Hyundai made the right call dropping the Elantra GT Sport / N-Line in favor of the Kona.. there's a few reasons imo. I daily a GT Sport with the tech package, and this compared to that, they took away too many great features. My GT Sport has a full panoramic sunroof, heated and cooled Nappa leather, wireless charging, all the interior panels are soft touch! No hard plastics besides switch panels. Level 2 autonomous driving, rear ac vents, a great sounding dual exhaust and then on top of all of that they actually tuned the suspension more sporty and upgraded the brakes. And on the GT N-Line they even made it more stiff! Although on that they did take away a few features as well, which is why I went with the Sport. It's just a better sport hatch than this.. it has the same 1.6T and 7spd set up too although a bit more power ( 201hp 195lbs torque ), but it was also offered in manual. And the biggest kicker? It has more cargo space! Yes, a hatch had better interior and cargo space all while having a better handling center of gravity and 0-60 time. It's literally over a second and a half quicker to 60. CUVs are killing our market man it's such a bummer. I would have much rather kept the Elantra GT here cause the i30 update in Europe ( that's what it's called over there ) is so much nicer than this. And to have the i30N over the Kona N. I get it, they can charge more for a CUV and people want them.. but let us performance oriented buyers keep what we like! No one is asking for a hot CUV lol.
It's because of Dodge Durango, and Jeep sales. The performance trims in them are over selling so everyone is tryna copy that. Thing is the Durango isn't selling because it's a fast suv it's selling because everyones getting it.
Serious question for all car enthusiasts out here, do you guys prefer this smaller drive mode selector OR Acura’s bigger jammed right in the middle of everything model selector? Curious on everyone’s thoughts here
The Kona upgrade is 👍🏽 lots of Zonks for me. No 🔌 in’s for backseat, the non functional venting….all Zonks. I’ll stick with my 2019 Veloster Turbo, but I’m really Digging the 2022 Santa Cruz…. That body style is a Banger..TFS 😘
Europe gets enough fun models like hatches, wagons and shooting brakes. Believe it or not, the US car manufactures will kill all sedan lineups soon, they only got SUVs on sale.
@@vincentli5466 he is also streight up wrong. In EU we have 3 engines to choose from - 1.6T-GDI (198hp)+7DCT, 1.6 CRDI MHEV (141hp) + 6MT/7DCT, 1.0T-GDI (120hp) + 6MT, in some countries you can't even get 1.0T-GDI version outside of most basic trim.
Love the Hyundai Cona but if cars were always perfect I think cars were better and have frills for the back seat passengers so cars were solid. I wish Hyundai should build cars with no mistakes just perfection.
Hmm, an automatic transmission, which sucks for a performance car, that right there would be a hard pass for me, no AWD, same stiff ride with lots of road noise as the Kona I currently have, Honestly, for the price of the Kona N, I'd opt for a Civic Type R instead. It's a better brand, more reliable, tested, has a manual transmission: and for those of you that say that doesn't matter, you obviously never drove stick, and it rides better from what all the reviews say. I'm actually not sure which one can hold more stuff, but I don't think people buy these for that. I know my regular Kona sucks for carrying stuff compared to the Rav4 I had before it. Actually, I'd take another Rav4 over the Kona N. The Rav4 Prime. It's slightly slower, doesn't have manual, but is much bigger, way more practical, much better mpgs, and it has AWD.
i prefer my 2020 kona 1.6L turbo with the front fog lights ( replaced stock bulbs with amber LED s ) . Bet you dealers will do same thing with N that happened to Pallasade and Telluride: sell it only at m.s.r.p. or tack on a extra dealer price ' adjustment'. 😝🙄 even though they say the rear wiper should be 11", a 12" wiper does fit and gives you a much bigger , better view out the rear window. biggest problems with the 2020: no rear a/c outlets, no spare tire, and that it defaults to normal when you shut off/ start the engine , it won't stay in sport mode when you select it. 😤🙄
good review. We need to downsize from a 2018 Tucson into a Kona and seriously thinking about this N line. Agree with a lot of the points here. This will help us decide, for sure
If your Tucson still works fine, don't do it. I mean unless you really need to drive fast for some reason, the Tucson is a much better vehicle in every way. I went from a Rav4 to a Kona and I miss my Rav4 every day. There's next to no room in the Kona except for children. The front seats are okay and the dash is actually very nice, but it ends there. Visibility at night sucks being much lower, and it has one bulb for low/hi, so if it gets dark where you are, you'll need a light bar. The N also has no AWD, so if you have bad weather where you are you won't be driving the N with AWD. The regular Kona does have AWD.
@@clifhellner1493 Not yet. Since the car is so new I can't find a-lot of good parts for the engine but I've started doing the outside. I also don't want to mess up that warranty lol.
Sounds like that dct needs some more fine tuning from hyundai. Too bad I already bought this same car brand new and already at 2000km dealer is telling me the transmission needs to be replaced!!
Hyundai does it again!!! They're coming for everybody's money!!! Personally I'd wait for the full N treatment but this is one sweet looking crossover!!! europe gets the bayron and i20n, while we get the accent and venue. usa operation needs better management.
Bro this car looks nice
I am sooo excited for the Kona N!!!
Love the Hyundai Cona but if cars were always perfect I think cars were better and have frills for the back seat passengers so cars were solid. I wish Hyundai should build cars with no mistakes just perfection.
So many manufacturers forget about that back seat.
I wish cars were pure perfectionists so people can buy them perfect.
Pretty impressive small suv
i prefer my 2020 kona 1.6L turbo with the front fog lights ( replaced stock bulbs with amber LED s ) . Bet you dealers will do same thing with N that happened to Pallasade and Telluride: sell it only at m.s.r.p. or tack on a extra dealer price ' adjustment'. 😝🙄
even though they say the rear wiper should be 11", a 12" wiper does fit and gives you a much bigger , better view out the rear window. biggest problems with the 2020: no rear a/c outlets, no spare tire, and that it defaults to normal when you shut off/ start the engine , it won't stay in sport mode when you select it. 😤🙄
good review.
Do you guys know that you can buy a turbo blanket for your car?
That will helps to keep cooler.
Just buy the specific size for your suv or car
I went with the N line since it has all wheel drive over the N. I’m going to mod the engine with n parts to push it to 250 hp
Did you end up doing it?
@@clifhellner1493 Not yet. Since the car is so new I can't find a-lot of good parts for the engine but I've started doing the outside. I also don't want to mess up that warranty lol.
@@ditzdark8639 What do you think of it?
Bring on that N!!
Looks like a nice ride. 👍
I am glad that you are digging this one Rich. I definitely like the paint job.
Is it just me or did Joe break something at 20:44? 👀
Sounds like that dct needs some more fine tuning from hyundai. Too bad I already bought this same car brand new and already at 2000km dealer is telling me the transmission needs to be replaced!!
@@tonylipari4430 😳
Hyundai does it again!!! They're coming for everybody's money!!! Personally I'd wait for the full N treatment but this is one sweet looking crossover!!! Makes me wish Honda would go a similar route Stateside with their SUVs and give em some meaningful sporty upgrades engine and looks wise. #RaitisRides #OnThrottle #ToTheDoorPanel #TwinkiesForDays #OnThrottleAgain #LoriGotAngles #CameraQueen #Zonkmeister #OnThrottleAllOverThePlace #IfYoureReadyImReady #Hyundai #Kona #NLine
I still can not wait for the true Kona N Mario!
maybe it's my backwoods mentality but I think it would look pretty slick to put and LED light bar on the top.
Hows it going?!
Hi Tyler! I am doing really well. I hope you are as well.
For 31k, this leaves a lot to be desired. Nice concept, poor execution. I get that AWD is costly but no paddle shifters??? No duel climate zones? For 31k???
No one cares about duel climate
@@darell8310 ikr
@@darell8310 when I was buying a new car last summer I was surprised that was supposed to be a big selling feature
@@eugenebridge6157 it's fine feature but not necessary especially on car this is trying to be
It is kinda odd the sport version didn’t get paddles. Especially since it has a DCT and not a CVT.
Why is the exhaust different on this Kona N ? Is the kona N different than the N- line?
Hey what's happening Joel it's better if have a six speed manual transmission
