Enjoyed the video. Especially the underwater camera footage. You get an idea what is happening down there and what it looks like when the fish bite and fight. Lots of calamari to enjoy.
Because I only get to go out a couple times a year I study your underwater vids to see how the Lings hit the different baits. Squid and Dabs are my favorite to use but the party boats don't always go out to catch bait. I have several types of artificial in my box and the Lings still go after the squid! I rig them a bit differently than the manufacturers do to present them as more real looking. All because you risk your underwater gear. Thanks you!!
I've seen a lot of lost and almost lost fish due to bad gaff shots. I saw a guide that swore by bonking them with the haft of the gaff first and then gaffing and it seemed to work great for him, but I always go for the big net. Great video!
One of the best NorCal ocean vids I’ve seen. Underwater footage is a difference-maker for sure…informative, educational, and entertaining! Bravo! Nice compact yet adequate boat too…please describe it.
The boat is a 2018 Duckworth Advantage 18. It’s a little under 19 feet in length. All the fishing extras you see were installed by Jim of Reel Custom Boat Works. Let me know if you have any specific questions.
I love watching your videos because a lot of the time it's the same places I fish! You ever wanna fish out of Bodega I have a 26 ft Trophy in a slip, Friday or Sun-Tues I'm available weather permitting! (Not a charter captain, just have a boat!)
Wow those video is one of the coolest things I have seen. And I have been around for awhile. Thank you and any tips on how to find or read the squid balls on ff would be greatly appreciated
Do you think a different style squid jig would hook more? Seems like lots of them hitting but only a small number are hooked? Or are they only staying on when reeling up and they attack?
What an awesome video!! Looks like a lot of fun and weather was perfect. How easy was it to find the squid? I was thinking that jigging the squid leader would of got you more squid maybe? I just priced that camera and, wow, very expensive, so thanks for taking the risk to bring us some great video of how fish approach our offerings! Again great video!
OK new to fish finder and how to use. How did you tell squid were on your screen??? also what general area of the coast were you fishing, within 5 miles maybe
It's called a squid jig.Squid attack it because they think it's a cluster of eggs getting away and they grab it to take them back to their nests.Jig it up and down slowly when you feel weight reel in. Down in so. CA we hang lights over the side and brail them when they float. That ink doesn't wash out of clothes
Come to Washington and get some decent ling's. My pb that I had to release was 45lbs because Puget sound has a slot limit. At that time it was 24-40". My biggest keeper from the sound was 38" and my biggest keeper from the ocean is 48". I've caught plenty of 20 and 30lb . The smaller ones are great eaters. A 22-24" the wife and I can eat fresh for a few days. I don't like freezing fish.
Hey Chris or anyone on here from Bay Area. Can you recommend a charter boat for salmon. Maybe even a salmon/halibut combo trip. My wife and I are looking to take a trip to the Bay Area and do some fishing. Thanks
generally not like a school of anchovies. School of bait fish is very tight and shows up as a dense ball. Squid are spread out a little more. So lots of little fuzz or dots, on mine its a bunch of little dots. not sure if that helps.
thats the goal. its hard. Water is too dirty where I fish for them mainly (sf bay & outside GGB). I have a video from last summer in monterey bay with halibut, but none bite. But you still see them. Thanks for watching, hopefully I get that footage soon!
Chris I got a question is it even legal to be using a camera underwater while fishing in California I've been really looking into getting a camera to see what's going on at the end of my line recently and everything that I read says that it's illegal to use for fishing in California?
Wow that underwater footage is outstanding. What an awesome video! (Per usual)
i appreciate it, thanks for watching!
The underwater footage is pretty cool. Especially the squid. It was super funny when you got inked! Lol
Great video. The underwater footage is awesome. Makes you realize how often fish are around but don’t bite.
Way to make a video ChrisPfish that underwater action is way cool soooo many squid down there great seeing those lingcod too!
happy you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching
I'm digging this underwater footage. I'm ready to try out my camera.
The underwater shots were money! Really cool to see the school of squid, their feed behavior, and inking on the way up!
Enjoyed the video. Especially the underwater camera footage. You get an idea what is happening down there and what it looks like when the fish bite and fight. Lots of calamari to enjoy.
Yo!!! That was the best underwater footage on your channel yet!!!
happy you enjoyed it! thanks for watching
Now I understand how they get hooked. We were there Sunday. So fun catching.

Beautiful footages of squids. Thanks
thank you, yeah fun seeing them down there. footage helps us learn to catch more. they bite right when they see it then move off.
Awesome footage. Thanks for sharing. This will help me learn how to do it from my Hobie PA 14. (I hope!)
Loved seeing squid attacking behavior
Great action! Love the underwater view!
The under water footage is awesome!
The squids thinks that they are breeding - the lights in the rig triggers the mood😂😂
yes thats what i heard. thanks for watching
I love watching your videos because a lot of the time it's the same places I fish! You ever wanna fish out of Bodega I have a 26 ft Trophy in a slip, Friday or Sun-Tues I'm available weather permitting! (Not a charter captain, just have a boat!)
The yellow eye snapper I caught today had a small giant pacific octopus in his stomach. New subscriber love the video

The underwater footage was great!
Love the video! Great underwater camera footage!
Wow those video is one of the coolest things I have seen. And I have been around for awhile. Thank you and any tips on how to find or read the squid balls on ff would be greatly appreciated
Love the underwater stuff. Great video.
Great underwater video 📹 👏
Do you think a different style squid jig would hook more? Seems like lots of them hitting but only a small number are hooked? Or are they only staying on when reeling up and they attack?
Great footage! 👍
Awesome footage!
The best lingcod jig is a banana sinker with a treble hook. 3oz for shallow water 6-12oz for deeper.
yeah they bite anything. thanks for watching
Great video. Keep the videos coming.
Great job
Keep it up
Awesome underwater camera
I must say, that was a great video! Alonso
I have found the same thing to be true. A small fresh octopus from one lingcod can be used to catch several more.👍
probably best bait for them
OK new to fish finder and how to use. How did you tell squid were on your screen??? also what general area of the coast were you fishing, within 5 miles maybe

Yup that one was a yellow tail seen lots of coppers on the underwater footage
Another awesome video man 👍
Aloha, that was cool!
Going to have to hook up that camera again..maybe a foot or two higher, wider view to watch them inhale bait. Nice Video folks!
i know... first thing i realized when i got home. Thanks for watching
Great job 👏. May you be blessed in all your journeys and god keep you safely. Thank you for the great videos…
i appreciate it, thanks for watching
Chris you should got after the white sea bass in monterey bay. They are huge. 65lb. The sea bass follow the squid into the bay.
been asking around, havent heard of them there yet? but yes its on my radar. thanks for watching
Such a great video. Keep up the great content.
thanks bro
I love calamari! How do you locate the squid?
Are the squids down at he bottom?
You guys make it look so easy where did you guys launched from?
Cool live cam!
Now why don't they sell live or local squid for bait?
Hi Chris, Like always, I appreciate you sharing great videos! Can you tell me how I can get a live well tank like yours? Thanks, Mikemaria
reach out to reel custom boat works in stockton. ask for jim. tell him you watch my youtube. He knows my boat very well and does all the work to it.
Come to Washington and get some decent ling's. My pb that I had to release was 45lbs because Puget sound has a slot limit. At that time it was 24-40". Lol on the ink face...
Hey Chris or anyone on here from Bay Area. Can you recommend a charter boat for salmon. Maybe even a salmon/halibut combo trip. My wife and I are looking to take a trip to the Bay Area and do some fishing. Thanks
salmon is closed in California for all of 2023.
Nice lings Chris, underwater footage was neat to watch. Do you have a discount code for that camera? I'd like to get one.
sorry i dont on the camera. thanks for watching
Is there any place near the Golden Gate to catch squid?
they are around but harder to target. generally you want to be where the squid boats are.
What do squid look like on your finder?
generally not like a school of anchovies. School of bait fish is very tight and shows up as a dense ball. Squid are spread out a little more. So lots of little fuzz or dots, on mine its a bunch of little dots. not sure if that helps.
Was that a parachute anchor ?
yes, i will use that when the drift is to fast and there is some wind. Thanks for watching
Awesome fishing, Nice boat what make is it.
duckworth. 18ft. not sure model, its my friends. thanks for watching
It’s a 2018 Duckworth Advantage 18
Nice video Chris. How deep were you guys fishing for the lings?
like 100ft
A squid hit the camera
Is the water depth 300 feet?
like 110ft
Let them eat it bro. Count to 5 at least to set the hook❤
Hey Chris, Please give me the address of boat launch there. Thank you
Why don’t you do the underwater cam for halibut?
thats the goal. its hard. Water is too dirty where I fish for them mainly (sf bay & outside GGB). I have a video from last summer in monterey bay with halibut, but none bite. But you still see them. Thanks for watching, hopefully I get that footage soon!
Nicw video
cool camera action
in Monterey? I like under water camera
Did that fish bite a bare hook at 17:11!!!! Who needs bait???
Good video Chris, You look like a Gangster with that ink on your face like a tattoo
Just curious, how did you know there were squid in the ocean?
lots of reasons. time of year, friends, reports, squid boats, other youtube videos.
Did anybody sales see a halibut on them at first drop?
Hi Chris. How far did go out for squid’s, and where are you launch at?
Dude where are the squid grounds?! I wanna go squiding!
Lol on the "Ratio" comment.
The squid jigs literally have hooks. They are "squid hooks".
i am confused.
