The algorithm touched me in a succulent manner today.
Algorithm was confusing. Got my pickle stuck in the accelerator.
Can you show me on this doll where the algorithm touched you?
@@evanmarrs353 In the cockles of my stator.
Don't worry I'll call the lawyer.
Wow, I didn't like that sentence at all.
You could make an internal combustion engine with that amount of burn on Binky
Congrats man! Nice work!!
Can't wait to see your first test drive!
Yeah Matt!😀
Congrats! So happy your car is moving.
Thanks! Looking forward to a drag race when your swap is done.
@@SuperfastMatt it's on! 🏁
*Fancy worded, deep thoughted mind- Okay fuck it lets drive*
God, I love this channel.
All hail the algorithm, may it see my "engagement" and recommend this to more viewers.
09:09 I was "grinnin' " just as big as you were Matt, when that bad boy started to roll.😁
I feel a personal investment in your success. ✊
Yes! That looks of boyish wonder during the first couple of feet.... priceless!!
Yep! Any Petro-Sexual knows that smile!
woot, same here
The smile of a guy who just drove his project for the first time… nothing like it. Congrats.
Some strange looks from the people walking the street. The one guy just kept staring at the Jag while walking. Matt, you have done the impossible-- getting a random person to look up from their phone screen!
Witchcraft
He’s managed to keep me glued to mine.
i'd stare too if i saw a ghost car without an engine and no noise driving past me like that :D
I love the guys face as you drive past him at 11:30..."WTF is that?"...priceless
Probably got thrown off by the empty engine bay lol
That is exactly what I was thinking.
The first drive is always a fantastic milestone, but also brings to your attention how much more work you have to do before it is done. Congrats mate.
So glad you watch this channel too Jeff. Funny thing is I watched this right after watching you sorting out a bunch of minor things on the Alfararri.
@@markhendry1761 haha… me too. I’m sure we’re not the only ones! 🤓 And suggestions for more quality channels like Matt’s and Jeff’s would be greatly appreciated.
Oh wow, deep cut on Project Binky there... do we need a ride-exchange when travel is again more regular? BOM drives the Jag, Matt drives Binky?
I don’t think BOM is ever going to let somebody other than themselves drive Binky. And in my mind they’d be right about that.
“Drives” Binky.
Nik's going to be furious
@@bryanc4054 it’s already driving, their was a video on Reddit where the were at a park or car show driving it. Wish they just drop a video on it all ready
@@RainOnThursday I think that was just temporarily thrown together to make it to the show. As I understand it, they took it all apart again and are redoing it properly.
Ah yes, my favourite method of finding out if something is spring-loaded.
Favorite
@@xploration1437 Favourite* since he said it like that.
That look on Matt's face when he first pulls away from the garage. You can't fake that kind of satisfaction.
Congratulations on the first drive! Love this series
Congratulations Matt! That was cool👍🏻 And thanks for sharing the ACTUAL test drive, flaws and all. We’re used to seeing “test drives” where everything works, and they aren’t the least bit nervous and just floor it, I never got that… You were understandably so tense it made me nervous too.
Congrats on the first drive! And bonus points awarded for avoiding the non-optimal ending. :-)
Watching this we get a powerful sense of your own excitement/trepidation as you did this irl. It's tangible. That's the first video that ever happened. Love the self deprecating dry humour, this is a great channel. BTW, suicide doors trumps gullwings every time, yay.
Every project has a couple dozen "I'm and idiot" moments 😂
the first "drive" moment is a grinning moment of success in any wild project car.
but coming back to your driveway in one piece in that same project car is a fucking mountain of stress lifting off your shoulders.
Matt you do nice work I was thinking maybe take a look at some Jaguar seats (XJS) /(XJ) they do have seatbelts I believe the earlier ones are all mechanical for the seat adjustments and they have headrests…Very interesting project
I used Jeep Cherokee tan leather seats in my '64 Rover 3 litre. Only two wires for electric. And very light weight.
@@moyadapne968 Light weight is the key here. Any weight saving on an EV means greater travel distance from the Battery Pack.
*I HAVE NEVER BEEN* as genuinely happy for a guy on UA-cam - ever - as I am for Matt. He was 6 years old again when that thing DROVE...
/me quietly panics at the phrase, "hole through the battery" before promptly remembering that you know what you're doing.
‘I have to install the seat’ oh my sweet summer child, that’s what beer crates are for.
Congratulations! Glad you're up and running!! Next stop - Buffalo Wild Wings!
Super Awesome! Congrats on the milestone. Warms my heart to see a (air quote) grown man (/air quote) squee over vehicular movement.
RE: belt tensioner, I have a few obstructionist, anti-science politicians whom I feel their nether regions would be an ideal location for test firing.
Dude, I love your videos. You"re both talented and funny. Thank you for sharing your life here
And taking us on your first 'drive' , that was a special moment like a first kiss 😘
Congratulations on the first drive. Your halfway there, now comes the “finishing” part of the build.
Congrats the 1st drive is always the best, BTW, very nice meeting you at SEMA this week, we should hang out.
Congrats! And make a one time use slingshot out of that seatbelt-tentioner!
Congrats on the first drive!
First British car in history that doesn't leak oil!!!! Nice work!
Ah good ol' Binky! When you mentioned you need more safety I thought about Binky getting turbo 😁♥️ That's the spirit🏆
the good old Safe-T-Turbo! Everybody needs one!
Love this project. So great to see the progress and this huge milestone!
When you’re going down that list of things that work I just started screaming “BRAKES, YOU NEED BRAKES”
Get in! Love seeing the excitement (and fear) on the first drive(s). Nice reference to Binky as well.
So happy for you sir! Imagine all the warm smiles on the faces of all us followers around the globe when seeing the Jag finally rolling around. Thank you for giving is such happiness! Cheers and warm congratilations from Slovenia!
Looks good! When it's "all done" you can use the seatbelt tensioner to pull a party popper 🤣
Lol Project Binky hasn't released a video of their car driving yet, but I have seen video from New Zealand with them driving it! CONGRATULATIONS MATT!!! Love to see this thing moving under the most posh of cruising drivetrains!
All hail the return of the end-of-video-teaser! (And well done Matt!)
After all the confidence and calmness while talking about carrying out tasks that appear fiendishly difficult to me, I was taken aback by the look of fear when you started switching stuff on. And then the look of joy when IT WORKED! Congratulations
Great to see you rolling on the road. Congratulations!
All hail the algorithm
And so much space under the bonnet. Loved the view out of the rear trunk 'door'
Super dope. Can’t wait to see what “finishing touches” you add
Binky is the most well done project I have ever seen. Not a single corner was cut. I don't know were those guys get the perseverance from.
Wonderful! The algorithm will be pleased.
damn the Binky burn - I would be careful not to jinks it - maybe "it's just couple of brackets away" curse is transmissible on mention!
Wow, congrats
Can't wait to see the rest of it done
Huge congrats from this side of the pond. Most excellent. Also loved the small-but-perfectly-judged poke in the eye to the Binky guys. 🤣🇬🇧
Thanks Algo Rythm. All hail you.
"that scared the shit out of me" - just means your cognisant of the stored energy in those batteries and the paths it could take to end your life - I hope you treat old air compressors and receiver tanks with the same due respect ;-)
DC is a lot safer in that regard than AC, because you pretty much have to be the path of least resistance for it to electrocute you. That can be tough to do in a car situation with a metal battery box, metal frame, and metal body. Still, things can get exciting in other ways. So far, in my years of tinkering with EVs and regular cars and driving them, I've had 3 ICE cars catch fire. The worst I've had from an EV is blowing a 12V 10A fuse on an EV once because I shorted the brake switch trying to get the old manual ebrake working.
@@12x2richter "paths it could take" -> through inverter, into AC, into engine, into fucking wall! :-D or into chassis and into fire. Was at no time referring to electrocution which though possible is most likely the least likely outcome of a death-by-lithium experience :-D
The joy this one brings to me. I hope I will see it one day in it's glory.
Congratulations Matt ! Looking forward for the next vídeos.
It's nice to see how the consistent deadpan delivery of content is completely overwhelmed by the satisfaction of something moving under its own power.
Nice work and congrats on the milestone. I like how every little faux pas takes 2 minutes. I wish my little sidetracks took that long. :)
The look on your face when it moved was priceless, Matt! Just like a 5 year old on Christmas morning! Well done! Cheers. Leigh.
First “drive” did exactly what was expected, creating more work. Love the build so far , now in the next one is spring loaded also in quotations marks?
Love the videos matt! Always entertaining
It's so good to get this update!. If you can't find lower seats, and the Model 3 seats fit, I'd just recover them in red leather. Safety upgrades are always justifiable.
Going through your checklist sounded like you where starting up a WWII fighter.
This...is a WWIII fighter
I was thinking more on the lines of a Star fighter.
you can truly feel the excitement of the first drive, thanks for sharing.
All hail the algorithm!
Awesome! Have fun driving this around and be careful to have it last!!
Wow Matt. I was so excited to see its 1st drive, I loved the look of the pedestrian as you turned the corner do a double take as the engineless old car drove past, as if it was witchcraft, priceless. Can’t wait for the next one. Congratulations btw.
Congratulations, SuperfastMatt. A real Star Trek moment: To boldly go ...
I was totally expecting you to get on it, looks great so far
"I had to build it so you have to watch it"
Fair enough.
Go ahead and hail the algorithm - I am still frickin impressed. 😀 What a project and exceptional videos!!! Congrats on this milestone. Should make minor setbacks to come more bearable😉
Gotta love the first "drive". Congratulations.
Always love a little bit of shade on other channels like Binky. :)
For the algorithm gods - Wow👍
I loved it when you referenced Project Binky! They're my favorite car guys across the pond, and you're my favorite car guy here at home!
In Richard and Nik's defense, they did also do the car hauler, and that oddball race car project... that they actually raced on several occasions! 😊
Well done on the first drive! Looking forward to the first burnout.
Personally I quite like the incongruity of the modern Tesla seats. Incongruity.
what an effort this man makes
to keep the "Bloody Hell I did it" grin
of his face ....
Congratulations on this fine step.
Well done Matt, good to see the car “driving”
I found your channel by searching for motorcycle engine swapped cars a while ago and really enjoyed the S600 stuff. It earned you a subscribe. You had already started this tesla jag project but I didn't watch any of it at first because I didn't think I'd care. But, on a day when there was no new content on all the other channels I watch, I decided to watch a few random tesla jag videos, and now I'm excited to see the rest of the journey. Sometimes when watching youtube videos I really wish the creator wouldn't talk so much, but it's the opposite here. Your narration really makes these videos enjoyable while doing a great job of explaining what it is that you're doing and why you're doing it. Good job, sir.
Congratulations! That's a real milestone!
Yes, 95% done, now only 95% to go.
Just wanted to say that I feel like I found this channel at just the right time. Watched my first 10 videos today and I'm already getting to see the Jag Drive. Perfect!
A $20 Teensy board will do can/lin bus communications and programs with Arduino IDE. Or a raspberry Pi w/GPS is kinda the poor mans "Tesla body controller".
You could add conformal coating to the Teensy or a combination of a small form-factor Arduino with a CAN-transceiver and house the whole thing in a watertight project box.
I wouldn't use a Pi or any other computer with an OS as these functions need to be super-reliable.
Same thing for the instrument cluster with the servo/stepper drivers for the instruments.
You could do a collab with some electronics channel such as the EEVblog (he also drives electric, but sadly not a Tesla). It might even be a viable commercial project with properly automotive-rated chips as there are lots of Teslafications of classic ICE-vehicles going on, so to have a flexible controller to do this kind of stuff is probably not only on your wishlist.
Brilliant...I restored a mark 5 Jag years ago....classic. you have made my day!
Mad scientist Matt is stoked!
Great effort we'll done. I love this car combining new with old. It would be great if you published a final wiring diagram. Hugh
Wohoo! Was starting to get #SuperfastMattwithdrawal.
Yes, it is a thing
Things Binky has which the Tesla-Jaaag doesn't, yet (exc ICE-related stuff):
Headliner and carpets.
Seating for 2 adults and 2 children or amputees.
Audio system.
Rain-sensing wipers.
Remote central locking.
Remote-triggered motorised flip front.
Dashcam with tidy wiring.
Aircon.
Front crash structures.
ARB and suspension bracing.
Custom centre console.
Electric windows.
Side-impact protection bars.
Lights and turn signals.
This bodes well for the next 7 years of Tesla-Jaaag entertainment.
Pretty cool Matt.
We don't have to watch this, we get the opportunity to watch a smart man make cool stuff
Much jealous! Such EV!
wow, love that feeling of "Well I did everything I can think of, well here goes nothing". Great job, it could have been way worse than a rubbing control arm.
I just love the diss towards Bad Obsession Motorsports and there project Binky at the end.
Yep, I loved it too. And I believe the guys at Bad Obsession Motorsports will love it too, once they see it.
Super excited to see you make are first trip around the block (and nothing broke or exoloded)!!
AMAZINGNES!!!
Congrats Matt! Hope your channel gets the attention it deserves
Matt, your face as you drive out of your garage for the first time is “all the money” as we say here in Cyprus. So happy for you mate, it’s been a pleasure observing your journey. 💯
Really great to see this car drive? Love the humor of this channel. Keep up the good work 👍
11:51 That look! The lines while driving. Sweet
Hard to believe you don't have a million subscribers, your humor and your work are awesome. 👍👍👍
I had to build it.
You have to watch it.
Right on brother. Nicely done!
Your channel needs to blow up already so we can get more content. Absolutely love this shit.
Not bad for a first drive !!! Glad you did not have to push it back home. 😂
All hail Matt. Congratulations, and thanks for providing many smiles along the way.
woohoo reference to project Binky !
Good Job Matt, you're almost ''done'' !
Nothing like figuring out you've wired 2 pole switches incorrectly moments before flipping the high voltage control hahaha, congrats on the milestone Matt! Awesome to see as always.
Absolutely fantastic! Proper hot rod. Love that it drives with so many body parts missing. And also that you did manage to adjust the seat without a body controller - there is a solution after all.
