Episode 70 of Love At First Scent
This was a UA-cam Live broadcast streamed on Saturday 14 March 2020. Unscripted. Unedited. Unrehearsed.
To celebrate the tenth anniversary of Persolaise.com, this is an AMA (Ask Me Anything) video, in which we covered a range of topics, including my story of how I became a perfume critic, my favourite vetiver scents and the difficulty of maintaining an independent voice in perfume criticism.
A massive THANK YOU to all of YOU for your support in helping me reach my tenth anniversary.

The most elegant, and highly intelligent perfume reviews. Thank you, Persolaise!
Wow, thank you Jolanta. You’re very kind.
Amazing channel! Unique I would say.. And spiced with that gorgeous accent 😊
Yulia, Tel Aviv 😘😘
That’s very kind, thank you 🙏
I enjoyed watching this a lot. I've been binge-watchibg your videos lately and I highly respect your knowledge and vast experience. Greetings from Poznań.
That’s so kind, thank you. I really appreciate your support 😊
Many thanks for watching!
@@Persolaise My pleasure!
This was fun to watch...I can't agree more about Killian and Creed...I so tried to like them at many occasions, but couldn't find something that is truly worth itfrom these brands...especially with the price tag.
You are the best perfume reviewer on UA-cam! Period
Wow - that’s very kind. Thank you 🙏
Congratulations on the 10 years
Very kind, thank you 😊
Hear, hear! I agree with your point of view on negative reviews. Thank you for your honesty and for upholding a certain level of professionalism. 🌹
Not at all. Thank YOU for watching and writing 😊
I really need to be around for a live stream. Persolaise is my favourite fragrance reviewer by far. Unlike the 'social influencers' that are only after free bottles and maximum likes/subscribers, you give your honest opinions of fragrances. As for shutting people down for expressing an opinion, you need to see what happens at universities. They shut down any speech or speaker that dares to question the prevailing social narrative, so I don't know how, but I can certainly believe that a smart PR department in combination with some lawyers could shut down someone's youtube channel. Funny, considering Bond No.9 had an alleged "pattern of racism against customers and employees" several years ago.
Thanks for this very kind comment. I wouldn’t see any point in doing this if I can’t do it honestly 😊
Congratulations on your 10th anniversary! And thanks for the special video :) You should do again! I want you to know I always appreciate your honesty! Wish you all the best.
That’s very kind, Pema, thank you. I appreciate your support.
This was Great ! Definitely do another Ask me anything soon please .
Thanks very much. I'll try to do another one soon.
I think killian hype may be because it's rumoured that Rihanna signature scent was a killian.
Thoroughly enjoyed this. I think it's about time for another. Love your chanel
Thanks very much. Maybe I’ll do another one soon.
Good questions, great answers, such an amazing interview! Acqua di Parma is my favourite brand and I love how she said that for her is more important quality then quantity. I just bought Fico di Amalfi, such a unique scent and the bottle…. Wow I just love that bottle too
Thanks very much for watching.
Always enjoy learning more about Persolaise! You were very brave. lol
😂
Thank you!
And thanks for watching.
Spot on with Creed et al...you are such a refreshing change from the usual reviewers!! 👍🏼
That’s very kind, thank you 🙏
This was brilliant! Insider knowledge is always useful to hear, and as always your integrity shines through. Hoping you’re surviving the quarantine; my only advice is to eat well and exercise! I managed to purchase a bottle of Aoud Cuir d’Arabie off the back of your last video, great stuff. I’ve been loading up on all the really heavy duty smells I can at the minute, all my cheesey oud oils are getting triple swipes! Again congratulations on the 10 year 70th video celebration, I’ll light some incense for you and your family when my local temple reopens.
Also, thanks for the shoutout at the beginning of the programme; brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face!!
Oh no... it wasn’t supposed to make you cry 😂 But you’re more than welcome. You’ve been in my thoughts a great deal, lately. I’m glad you enjoy the Montale. And the offer of lighting some incense is just so touching - thank you, thank you, thank you. Look after yourself.
Great video, I love tauer perfumes!
Me too! 😉
Thanks for watching.
Great video! Thank you 😊
Many thanks for watching 😊
As an Asian, i can say that I have always LOVED bitter vetivers(e.g. Bel AMI vetiver) and HATE sweet sugars(e.g. allure homme/le male) fragrances. Don't know if this resonate with anyone. I actually quite enjoy potency, just not cloying sweetness
Thanks very much for writing. I’m sure this will resonate with many.
@@Persolaise Thank you for your response!!! I feel so honored that you wrote back haha! Your contents are amazing man thank you for your channel. And I do pray one day the mystical madame would do a video with you LOL
It’s me who’s honoured! Thanks for watching and writing.
Dear Persolaise, Congratulations on your tenth anniversary. Please can you recommend your favourite Patchouli and Oud from your collection and Patchouli and leather. Thanks for your help Regards Amna
Thanks so much for watching. I’ll do my best to broadcast a special patchouli video 😊
I'd love to see a top 10 favourite novels video!
Really?? 😂 I don’t think I’d ever be able to get it down to 10.
@@Persolaise Ha! It is a tough choice to make, isn't it? Look, I wouldn't mind a top 20, but given the limited time, that would be asking too much. 😉
👏🏻
😊
Wait howww many sprays do you wear?! o-o and Creed and Kilian both overpriced interestingly enough in USA we get the worst prices because of distribution expenses.... a 50 ml retail purchase of Kilian costs nearly as much as a 100 ml of a retail Amouage
Hmmm... interesting.
Thanks very much for watching 😊
My AMA: I would appreciate a recommendation if you can. I am at the end of my second bottle of Hiris and instead of buying a third, I am looking for another iris fragrance of the same type (i.e., iris being front and center). I already have Goodsir's Iris Cendre. The brief: it shouldn't have any patchouli or vanilla and if there is sandalwood (prefer none), it is buried all through the wear. Any suggestions spring to mind?
Wow! There’s a challenge!
Have you tried Iris Silver Mist?
Any suggestions from anyone else?
@@Persolaise Irisoir (Sultan Pasha Attars), Ingen (NOT Perfumes) and Pallida (Mellifluence Perfumes) are worth sampling. They all have sandalwood but never too prominent on my skin. Genuine sandalwood is not supposed to.
On 13th February, 2020, there was a historical lecture titled "A History of Perfumery from Antiquity to Today," where Irisoir (2017) was chosen as a neo-classical example, showcasing one of the many directions of current modern perfumery! It was held at Swedish National Museum with the assistance of Osmothèque.
I briefly tried Masque Milano's L'Attesa but I can't recall the intensity of sandalwood in it. Worth sampling too!
@@ashfaque_1 Thanks for taking the time to do this, Ashfaque.
@@Persolaise Thank you for the suggestion! I did try a while back, but it is worth giving it another go.
@@ashfaque_1 Thank you for these suggestions!
