I’m a Runcorn survivor having lived there for 19 years, mainly over the Norton Cross area between the water tower and Runcorn East station. There were many places I never got about to seeing of the town. It makes me sad each time I go back to visit as my mum still lives down in Murdishaw. I always tell peeps it’s my old stomping ground but it does need some investment, especially down by the city and Trident Park.
@g2emedia1977 it was lovely in the 80s. we left in 91 so quite a while ago but I've got alot of fond memories of runcorn and the people so it's nice to watch your videos you do there ☺️
I didnt start coming up here until 2000 its quite a nice place i have lots of good memories here I have a few more runcorn and warrington videos coming over the next few weeks Thanks again
Excellent video George great info on that screw thing. I do know Oxmoor nature park was great when I moved to that end of Runcorn 1987 was field after field no factory or businness park then. I live near the Sandymoor catchment that I think was for saving Moore from flooding but now also includes Sandymoor also. This balancing lake quite often fills up its then a huge lake lots birds Wild fowl etc. Problem is Keckwick brook now has to do so much since all the housing eg Sandymoor came bigger & bigger and all the fields are now fully checked out as far as Preston Brook ready for the house builders to begin next year. Tragic cause the foxes newts and all wild life will have no where left All of Sandy Moor is on bog land used to feel your wellies squelching as your feet got sucked down & down into the bog. We go to Oxmoor through woods opposite the Police custody suite. Do you know the black & white house opposite the police place. We go on foot no car through the Old Manor Farm now flats on it walk through the wood in a left direction. You see steps to industrial buildings go through a couple car parks and Oxmoor is across the road. I feel a bit uncomfy there have my dog tho. Its so quiet & desolate. Love it tho.
Thanks for the info its a lovely desolate place to explore Ive seen that black and white house i went bottle digging in those woods years ago there used to be an old farm house there but its gone now and new houses are there Thanks for watching btw glad you enjoyed the vid
@@g2emedia1977 We used d to buy fruit & veg at that farm. Manor Farm it was called. Shame it went. The barns housing is on the land. I have gone thru that way into plantation wood and have suffered bad aggression from a nutter in those barns as have a lot of folk. He was trying to stop us walking by the sde of the barns on our way into those woods. It led to this nutter pad locking the 2 gates to stop public access there. WQw got the police and woodland trust to heip. The nutter got a police warning. Only being using the route since 1987. Good laugh eh if the nutter did not want to live near a public access to the wood why buy a property there. No problem from any other resident they are all lovely.
In the late 70s early 80s when I was a teenager that was my stopming ground. Of course in those days no factories all fields. Tried to get down to sandycove last year but too overgrown. Was ace when a ship went past.
Hiya mate The orange sign on the pole is a marker for the Ethylene pipeline running from Sabic petrochemicals uk site at Wilton (an ex ICI works) in Teeside to Inovyn ( formerly Ineos Chlor- -formerly ICI ) VC3 plant The markers are visible from above and there used to be a helicopter flight weekly down the length of the pipeline checking it. I think they use a Britten-Norman Islander plane (the flying plank) too Not sure if it’s monitored using binoculars or a thermal imaging camera Hope this little snippet of information helps 👍🏻
George, have you visited the pillbox in Runcorn? Just down the road from me on Cow Hey Lane., Weston village. Not a lot of info on it, but next to a public right of way. Manned by home guard I believe, to protect ICI. Type 24 pilllbox.
The Big Rock at the Entrance on its side is the Same Large Rock that was outside ASDA up the city it still has all the Asda Carvings on ... , the Little Stream used to have 2 webcams in , for the kingfisher, and there is still a Webcam on the Pumping station for the Wildbird Box ...
What rock would that be im trying to remember where a rock used to be in asda was in in the middle of the roundabout Great info mate cheers i had no idea of the webcams either
There was once a massive heronry and rookery not far from there back towards Greenswood area heading to haddock’s wood, you couldn’t really see it until you were right on top of it, unusual prehistoric looking site , really impressive .. I hope it is , last time I was there was about 15 yrs ago so there’s a possibility it could be , we’ll certainly hope so as it was magical treat seeing it for the first time
If it gets really think i may think of doing one im currently in work myself and all my gear is in the house but ill see what its like when i get home Thanks for watching
Have you tried going over to the old MOD chemical warfare site next to wigg island? It produced mustard gas in ww2 Its the bit fenced off with rundown MOD signs on it, the "hills" behind the fence are bunkers covered in soil, you can see theyre symetrical
@@franklucas9143 i was down that way the other day pretty sure i seen some gate but it was locked didnt see any mod signs thougb unless i was in the wrong place
@g2emedia1977 thats the gate if you wander off to the right theres a strip of old fencing with the "MOD do not trespass" signs on it, its pretty overgrown but you may see something with your drone

Mad isnt it mate a few people have said now that they have also been here in the past back then as you say it was all just fields
I worked laying the sewage pipes for all that area in the late eighties, don’t remember the nature reserve at all.
Mad isnt it just sat in the middle of the industrial buildings
When I was younger everywhere was fields farms and grass or it felt like that ❤
Ha ha yeh mostly all farm land
Am goin to have a walk down there an have a little flick with the fishing rod on the manny see if there's any perch lucking near that outfall
I seen lots of activity near that outfall and the guy who was walking his dog even said lots of people go there to fish
@g2emedia1977 thanks mate am a runcoen resident so definitely going to check it out... 👍🏼 great videos as well by the way great channel
Is Haddocks Wood still a wood next to Norton Priory.?.🤔
Haddocks wood is still there yes
The pipes that come from Lake Vyrnwy, go underneath the manchester canal and mersey there , they are large enough to walk through .
Just done a video on that will post next week

Ask the EA who is responsible for both the flood defences, they don't even know they exist.
Thats probably right that
