Starring 2025 strong. Thanks for all of the breakdowns. Ultimately I ended up going for the Toughbuilt system and have no regrets, your reviews were part of the buying process.
@ I do like it. I like that I can fit longer tools like my sds drill and pneumatic framing nailer. Also I use a truck canopy so this allows me to open the boxes from the side and not unstack everything. The slim organizer is much better that the compact slim organizer on the tough built system (the system have)so that’s a plus. Overall I like it it suits the way I store tools.
One thing I think you should mention is that the way the locking system works water or dirt doesn’t really stay on the lid. I have had an issue where my tough Built system has frozen together and I was not able to access any of my tools until they thawed which took a while. I would imagine Makita and Klein systems would also freeze together.
I've been considering a modular system to store my camping gear, and I like that they did the low-and-wide design because it may actually fit things like a 2-burner camp stove. I'll have to keep this one in mind, though I do want them to come out with drawers before I'd consider it. I'm not in a huge rush though, so dazzle me Makita!
@@saxamachick one issue I think you should consider that makita kind of solves is water sitting on the lid and freezing the boxes together. I know tough Bill boxes to freeze together. It has happened to me and I was not able to get any of my tools out until the boxes thawed. I would assume that Milwaukee and Klein would also freeze together just because of the way the cleats go into the lid.
@@KuzConstrution I didn't think of that possibility, thanks! I think for me most use-cases would be car camping where I'd likely load them up either into my truck or tent at night just for security, but more isolated camping settings I would likely leave them out. And I don't tend to do any winter camping in icy/snowy conditions, but there's always the odd frost or just-below-freezing evening. Thanks for that!
I think this is a great kit for people with pickup trucks for work or even recreation. The lack of drawers is annoying but made in USA makes up for it. I'd like to see how it evolves over time. I have tons of makita tools. I'm a bit tired of this coloring, but some guys say too much milwaukee red on job sites makes it hard to keep track of things. This one will be unique for people.
going low & wide is a smart move by Makita, there's too many tower designs around. That bottom box is very well thought out and saves waiting for a handtruck or the toughbuilt gourney.
@@JakeWeihe definitely man, When I hear that garbage background music and "THETOP10MODULARTOOLBOXESSINTHAWORL..." I so turn that off. I do not believe that there was any research done on those. I would venture to say they were even made by bots in Russia. LOL
deep compact organizer looks like a fantastic box on its own. Also the XL box is great too. That tray is smart, bit annoying that it's two handed but it gives you all that space for tools in the top bin or batteires as you've shown. Nice job Jake on all your accessory work. That's a lot. Lids look good. cleats look good. very nice.
The stiff connections may just be unit to unit variance. For example, I had Milwaukee drawer boxes that when clicked onto a PACKOUT dolly required you to POUND on the corners with a rubber mallet to come off; just trying to pull it off would never work. Those same PACKOUT boxes would click onto other boxes and other boxes onto the dolly with no issues, so it was some type of tolerance issue between THAT drawer box and THAT dolly. Home Depot graciously allowed me to try a few of each until I found a pair that clicked together effortlessly.
Awesome breakdown! If you look at the patent they have a clip for exterior corner rail mounting options, im sure you could work something up on your 3d printer
I don't know if I care for the rolling or large tool box but I like the size of the organizer cases much better then packouts I hope they make some kind of open tote tool bags that connect to these boxes and boxes with drawers.
I've seen multiple comments about the low handle. I'm not sure how much fun such a system will be on your back. The handle helping with loading into a truck is neat. Except for the fact trucks are getting bigger and thus harder no matter what system to load.
Craftsman Versastack is also made in the USA, although I’m not certain if it is still manufactured and stores could be selling the leftovers. Interestingly enough, its twin sibling - DeWalt TStak is/was made in Israel.
Hmm I feel like I remember them saying that but there is no evidence of that now. Stanley black and decker has really decreased it’s made in America products over the years.
Exclusive- no. Other people have done it before and it can be done to a lot of the lids r that have that type of injection molding feature. I’ll make some other videos talking about similar setups in other boxes like modbox but makita made internal lid storage a top priority with the new MakTrak items
I would love macpac compatibility. I got the stacktech drawers and although they are nice, the weight is just too much for loading/unloading every day. Thanks for another great video
When fully loaded with 4 or 5 boxes of tools, did you find awkward/heavy to pick up? Picking up an end of a 150 lbs set up to get moving could get old quick, which is what is making me hesitate on switching over from packout.
Okay, for all the folks out there who don't own a pickup truck and don't have space for a mammoth foot locker.. Can this stand up against a wall? Can it function less like a foot locker and more like a cabinet? Or perhaps they created an opportunity for a certain maestro of 3D printing.
Yup. The rear handle and standoffs hold it up nicely. If you have more boxes attached it will want to lean back and possibly fall but if you offset a larger box on top it holds it more vertical. I show an example towards the end of the video 👍
Main issue I see with their design is that every single time you go to move the box you're tilting it on it's side and dropping all your tools onto themselves
Lol I literally ask for it. I don’t think makpac is actually that popular of a system nowadays but I think they will eventually come out with an adapter. For now you can use my MakTrak feet to build your own adapter.
MakPak/classic systainers might not be all that popular (particularly in the states), but having an adapter like that would still interface with most modern systainers (excluding the L and XXL sizes that can't interface with the "classic" latches.
These might find a niche because of their size. But Husky is coming to eat everyone's lunch with cheap boxes that are just "good enough", so I won't be surprised to see some systems leave the market.
@mvevitsis I get comments daily of people complaining about drawers and saying they only use boxes for more capacity and water resistance. There are pros and cons with everything and when you speak for all consumers you sound silly.
I'm sick and tired of all these hunks of expensive plastic man. It's been years and they're all the same to me. Some of these boxes that have been around for years like Milwaukee are barely starting to come out with different variations of deep drawers with rolling wheels etc. and that's what 85% of us really wanted. I just bought a standard non module system 63 gallon Dewalt rolling chest box and threw all my tools in there and called it a day. For a little over $100 I can store more in it than $800 worth of pack out crap. And it's still waterproof/dust proof and gets the job done
My opinion makTrak is a Dud. Everyone wants drawers they are way easier to use than this. if this came out before anyone had drawers this would be top tier, Now it seems outdated. If I was Makita I would come out with a single drawer box with a top handle and a regular tool box that converts into a Crate with top handle. Along with a rugged offroad 4 wheel dolly/Trolley or Vacuum to carry all these Tool boxes
Drawers are coming out, they already announced it. Like Milwaukee, DeWalt, Flex and every other storage solution, drawers are not a launch item despite always being the top demanded item.
I think they came out swinging and whiffed. This would have stolen the show in 2019/2020. They needed to come out with everything being side opening with drawers/cabinets. There's no reason to buy this over packout. Flexstack, modbox and even stacktech (despite toughbuilt being on life support) simply make more sense. Also the little tag holder, once again, would of been a great idea years ago, but now they alert the people when they're being tracked, negating their anti theft abilities and rendering the feature useless. And the ability to open the boxes when stacked means nothing due to once their filled with tools they won't be able to be opened as the weight would make it unbearable
You’re missing the points with this system. Is it perfect? No. But they took a unique crack at this market. Also if you load your boxes too inefficiently to access your stuff you need to reanalyze your setup or just hit the gym.
You keep saying baseless claims. You should watch a video to learn some things before commenting your preconceived notions. The boxes are molded here and most of the work is done here. Anyone that wants to beat packout has to beat the price to performance … they have to be at least 40 bucks less than Milwaukee …. Only one that I’d say is worth buying over Milwaukee is Klein based on price to performance
You’re missing several points… the biggest being made in USA. If people say they care about that they should be willing to pay the extra costs. MakTrak has good performance and people need to put their money where their mouth is. Otherwise everything will always be made overseas
Interesting that an Asian company like Makita would insist on their boxes being built in the U.S., while most U.S. companies insist their boxes be built in Asia. By the way, that was a very fair review. For some reason, I was expecting it to be more negatively critical, but was glad to see you find so many positives.
