Very helpful Brad. We're starting a new home on nearly 4 acres and some type of barn is definitely in the future plans! I like the SIP barn, especially if cost is comparable to a pole barn. We'll mostly use it for equipment, but I'd also like to be able to use it for large gatherings, in door sports in winter, etc.
that style definitly sounds great for a barndominium the normal polebarn seem great for warehourse/workshops were things move in and out having to open the the garage doors alot. the big windowed door looks amazing.
Outstanding video! Incredibly informative and helpful. Definitely leaning towards the SIPS option as a future site of my dream model train layout! Will be on the lookout for more great videos. Thanks again!
Holy Smoke Brad..What an amazing Video.! .You really nailed this one!! FYI,,,Your barn just has a better feel, look and I love the light/windows!! Thank you so much for the cost breakdown.I ask you about that and you followed thru!! Thanks Brad..really enjoy the content..Cant wait to see whats next..You put in some hard work on these videos and Im sure all your YT subs appreciate it....
Thanks Brad for sharing all that info!! If I was in the market to build a "barn" I would go with the SIP one. I think it's more economical with the insulation walls and already made to order. Also like the epoxy floor, have it in my game room and love it. Happy New Year!!!Stay Safe & God Bless!! 🤠👍
I really like those four windows to create one giant window. It looks great ! 👍 I've been wanting to do that for several years to the giant single window in our living room. The sliding portion is so heavy we rarely open it since we get a nice breeze through the front door every afternoon anyway.
Very interesting comparison. I've seen some houses built with sips. It looks like a great technology, and it goes up quickly. I've always been curious about the poles in a pole barn. Won't they eventually rot?
Brad Your barn for sure is more efficient, as you said comes down to what you want or can afford. I would need to hit the lottery to build your barn. 😊but love your barn over flairs.
Brad, why didn’t you have them epoxy the 1ft of concrete foundation? I used to do epoxy flooring and we always had people wanting to tie the floor up the foundation. Especially in shops / garages
I'm just about 8 minutes into the video and I wanted to say how nice those drone shots are ! It does look kind of cold though when you cover everything with snow like that. I won't mention that here in SoCal just 5 mi from the coastline, it was 81° in the shade on the patio today. That would just be rude so I won't say it. 😏😎
@ralphjessee2688 The past few days we had fog here too but today I woke up to sunshine. I guess I'm just far enough away the fog didn't get me today. 😎
Put a nice rv hookup there at the shop and i can stop with the motorhome for a visit. Thanks for the content Brad. God bless and happy/healthy new year.
Brad, you said you didn't have a trench drain because you have to put a septic system in. Is that separate from the septic system for your bathroom? If it's septic what difference dous it make to the county?
@@BZ1340 If they put some cove base tile with a return at the top and then covered it with epoxy it would POP big time as a completed and functional detail. Otherwise, yeah - undone.
Don't tell Andrew but I like your way much better. It sounds like yours would hold up much better in the unlikely event you have another tornado in the area. 👍
Mezzanine lifts and loading areas are generally a bad idea unless the mezzanine is designed and approved by a licensed engineer for a typical warehouse load usually 50-200lbs per sq. ft depending on what is stored because with a loading area or a dumbwaiter/powered lift it's easy to greatly overload this space over time. If space will be occupied it's always a good idea to insulate the floor slab from the ground with high density structural foam underneath, this will offer great returns over time and if structure is insulated make heating/cooling much less costly to install and especially operate. Usually the reduced HVAC installation costs alone more than pay for added costs to insulate the floor making the floor insulation free or even showing a profit. Ray
Couple questions: You have a bathroom in your barn, doesn’t that mean you have a septic for a potential drain to tie into? Why not radiant in floor heat? Why build such a large personal house and still build a living area in the barn? Seems like a lot of space that might go unused. Why does the county care about living space
You went in the right direction imo. Tax assessment can suck it. You already paid taxes on the land, material, etc. The tighter the envelope the better long term. Maybe the UA-cam revenue you get should go into an investment fund for future litigation 😂. It's got me rethinking my 40x60 pole barn build.
Correction you CAN insulate a pole barn slab, mine is insulated down 4'! When I built my pole garage(mini pole barn, 24x32, 6' on center poles to better handle winds here and a load of solar panels on the roof!) the SIP cost was 25% higher but SIP's were brand new then... 2 year old tech. Like any tech as it matures and is adopted costs drop! Look at computers, an IBM XT was like $3600 in 1983... now a PC is well under $1k for a bare bones entry level. Prices drop as people adopt the new thing! If I was building now it would have been a SIP
Awesome build, kinda wondering about the door placement next to the garage door seems like it would have been better to have it under the roof extension?
I'm looking for something like that bus to get out and travel. still live with parents mid 30's can't afford rent anywhere else and having a mid 30's life crisis. I try to convince a bank that the payments on something like this are cheaper than rent but they dont' care even witha 800 credit score
I would say that it depents a lot on what you plan to use it for. You go to Menards and buy a pole barn kit and have the Amish build it at $1,500 a day for 20 workers. Then use it for round bails or to keep farm equipment out of the weather.
Yes a fire place big tv, bar. Bathroom with shower. A bedroom. Have a couch also that pulls out into a bed. Recliners with heaters and massage. Carpet in this area. like the idea have a workbench for toolsqybe hooks for brooms mops ect. Awesome like your barn better it's better for long term use.
I do like the SIP construction however if you take a look at RR Buildings UA-cam channel you see a Post Frame can be built to very efficient levels. It requires significant more design, Labor and materials but be interesting to see the cost difference for true apples to apples.
Great looking building, I do question why you didn’t install a radiant floor heat?? Also maybe epoxy up the inside foundation wall? I see you installed standard door openers, why not wall mount openers?? Just suggesting
If i would build a working/shop barn, i would probarbly build like Flair. But If i would build a barndominium or shop with office and such, i would build like you. Cause yours would be a better workspace for office people. And i love building with "lego's" like your barndominium.
People wonder why food and such is so high, there is so much cost in everything including the barns. I am trying to get land and I am going to go the pole barn route but much smaller scale I would love one of these but out of budget.
I'm building a post frame shop like the way RR Buildings built his dream shop build but instead of the way he did his foundation, I'll be using ICF. Also, I like vaulted ceilings so I'm going to build my roof trusses like a timber frame roof truss. Then the roof will be SIP's. I'd love to use SIP's for the walls as well but I called my local manufacture of SIP's and they said that they would only sell me pre cut panels. I wanted to order a stock panel and cut them myself to save money. I do like the way RR Buildings insulated his walls much better than SIP's otherwise I'd have very thick walls. I could do ICF walls but I think it cost more money to build like that then a post frame. I do not like pole barns because the wood rots in the ground. The wood needs to be above the ground so that's why I have opted to go with a post frame design.
I like Brads videos but this one was a bit off for me. Not a very good price comparison video, seemed like we didn’t get real numbers on flairs and just assumed his numbers.
Brad depending on if you/we are building it with our hands yours is easier to erect by far In my opinion I have built both. Yours I could build with the same size crew probably 2.5 of yours to 1 of flairs
how in the world are some of these prices real for contracted work? $7/sqft for foundation - lucky to find anyone that's 2x the cost here for 4 inch foundation and that's finding an independent/offshift outfit.
This guy actually tried to be a smartass making a comparison video just to trash on Flairs barn.. Also never seen a grown man use the word ”me” and ”mine” more then this guy.
As soon as he called purlins and girts “crossmembers” I knew this guy has no clue what he’s talking about and likely hasn’t pounded a nail in his entire life. Very poor example of a Builder
Brad is an extremely experienced builder here.... He generally uses terms that a wide audience can understand. Essentially, a girt is a what? A girder.... ie, a beam in layman terms.
I hope both of you guys make more videos as you continue all the finishing touches !
👍🎺🎺
Please keep the details on the barn coming! Loving it.
Happy New Year Brad from Australia!! So glad to have your video's back again 🙂

I like the SIP style much better, nice job Brad. Looking forward to seeing it finished.
I've seen sips on houses but never thought to do a barn with them. Cool idea and that is a beautiful building
Looks great Brad I definitely you went the right route with the sips. The extra cost will eventually offset when you save on heating and cooling.

10:46 😂😂 Brad that is funny but you are under arrest for kid napping 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Excellent builds🎉.
I'm so pleased to see your Barns complete💪👍🔥
Now, you boys have someplace to play🤭!
JO JO IN VT 💞☃️
My father was a builder. He think sip homes are great. Watching from Wanganui, New Zealand 🇳🇿
Brad, Really love your barn and look forward to seeing your progress ahead!! I would build your Barn hands down....
Thanks so much! I’m really looking forward to showing you more progress on the project.
Love the overview Brad, looking forward to more of the finishing touches!
Wow that snow came in quick! Would love a snowy Christmas. Take care Brad.
The epoxy flooring looks great, it really dresses up the place ! 👍
Very interesting comparison. I've seen some houses built with sips. It looks like a great technology, and it goes up quickly. I've always been curious about the poles in a pole barn. Won't they eventually rot?
I’m a big fan of the barndominiums. It’s nice seeing the side by side comparison.
Brad
Your barn for sure is more efficient, as you said comes down to what you want or can afford. I would need to hit the lottery to build your barn. 😊but love your barn over flairs.
Both are perfect for their purpose, but since i'm retired i will favor yours Brad😁😇
Brad, why didn’t you have them epoxy the 1ft of concrete foundation? I used to do epoxy flooring and we always had people wanting to tie the floor up the foundation. Especially in shops / garages
Agreed, did that at my house.. he needs to call them back lol
Im not aware of any sips systems that would be in the same materials costs as a post frame building.
I'm just about 8 minutes into the video and I wanted to say how nice those drone shots are !
It does look kind of cold though when you cover everything with snow like that.

Beach cities, much cooler today with sm/fog.
@ralphjessee2688
The past few days we had fog here too but today I woke up to sunshine. I guess I'm just far enough away the fog didn't get me today. 😎
Really looks nice Brad I think I like your barn a little better
Awesome video super cool to learn about different kind barn
Great video on the breakdown of costs. I’d go with either a metal building or SIPs..
The white metal walls in both places are really make it look clean and large. 👍
Put a nice rv hookup there at the shop and i can stop with the motorhome for a visit. Thanks for the content Brad. God bless and happy/healthy new year.
In for the win!!
Brad, you said you didn't have a trench drain because you have to put a septic system in. Is that separate from the septic system for your bathroom? If it's septic what difference dous it make to the county?
You can put a pole barn on a full stem wall which is definitely the way to go.
It’s dumb that barndominiums have gotten so popular that now they cost more than a stick built house
Great barn!! Do you need storm shutters for the big glass windows ...in case for another hurricane?
A heated floor would have been much more comfortable. Why didn't you have the epoxy guy carry the epoxy up the stem wall?
I agree looks unfinished
@@BZ1340 If they put some cove base tile with a return at the top and then covered it with epoxy it would POP big time as a completed and functional detail. Otherwise, yeah - undone.
top notch, its the same reason icf makes a poured wall look useless!

What is the total cost of each of your shops, and when are you getting the helicopter?

SIP building for the win
Brad, why did you go with white for the front garage door with all of your doors and trim being black?
I’m going to be painting them black
@BradtheBuilder makes sense! Should've thought about that.
If i would build a working/shop barn, i would probarbly build like Flair. But If i would build a barndominium or shop with office and such, i would build like you. Cause yours would be a better workspace for office people. And i love building with "lego's" like your barndominium.

Quick answer… roughly $342,350 for the barn in total. Assume that doesn’t include taxes.
Pole barns without ply/osb sheathing are security nightmares
Brad how much for the bus ?
What is the total size on the barns?
Are the buildings 60x100? Thats massive!
Info on the school bus for sale please!
Why did you use different brands of windows? Are those ones you didn't use on other builds?
So is this flairs tornado rebuild or someone else
I’m super surprised you didn’t go boiler and in floor heat
You built that bus for your son? You just got a subscriber.
A 1976 Corvette? That's not a Camaro, it's a plastic Monte Carlo. LOL. Looking forward to the rest of the builds.

Is flair a family member?
Why not use SIPs panels with metal already on both sides rather then plywood then the added expense of metal later.
Your garage doors were $6.67 per foot, not 67 cents.
I like Brads videos but this one was a bit off for me. Not a very good price comparison video, seemed like we didn’t get real numbers on flairs and just assumed his numbers.
Red iron + insulated metal panels
Check Andrew’s ceiling height. Pretty sure it’s 18’ and yours is 16’. Unless his doors are only 12’ high.

At $12.00 framing and sheathing, I'd say they considered themselves general contractors. Lol
Seems a little expensive for a garage but it sure looks purty.
how in the world are some of these prices real for contracted work? $7/sqft for foundation - lucky to find anyone that's 2x the cost here for 4 inch foundation and that's finding an independent/offshift outfit.
Stop talking about him it's about you man . Good video to
Almost every video he brings up flair as his neighbor , getting kinda of weird honestly
Might just be me but flairs ceiling looks a lot taller
Also most farmers deprecate 20% off their income tax each year for may be 7 years. Can you or your neighbor deprecate these barns on your income tax?
Great vid! But I dont think grinding the concrete will make anything stronger, sounds like bro science to me..
The problem with barns this big is they get full of junk. Why? Because you have the room.
Polebarn 100%
Praise Jesus Christ Holy Name ❤❤❤❤❤
seems awfully dark inside. Too many shadows as I see you walk around, Needed more lighting
unless you really need it the barndo is more of a liability than an asset
I would epoxy it for free if he flies me out
