If I hadn't bought XH2 and waited for XT5, knowing what I know now about what I tend to shoot would have definitely bought XT50 as my secondary camera for all the things you said. I now use XH2, X100VI, and occasionally XPro2 or XT30 for times I want to go lightest with f/2 primes. Bought the X100VI for fun as my first Fujifilm is the X100S. Still not a fan with the X100VI back controls (i.e., lack of controls including 4 button d-pad) that I struggled with on the XT30. In the end I went XT5 because the XT30 was only $300 USD cheaper while missing WR, extra function buttons/d-pad, better EVF (sucks when eyes start to get old). I also prefer tilt screen like on XT5 over fold out found on XH2. Bought XT5. Now finding I use the XT5 as my main camera and only use the XH2 when I need two cameras or plan on shooting mostly with my bigger/heavier lenses. On travel, I like having both a ultra wide and standard zoom on two bodies to quickly grab snapshots as I run around. Carrying XH2 and XT5 around my neck is OK; bigger problem getting both to fit well in my camera bag. Great situation to have a Sigma 10-18/2.8 or wide prime on the XT50 with wrist strap, attached to the side of my bag with a Peak Design capture clip and my main camera around my neck. Ah, well. Nothining to do but go out and shoot with what I got and do my best until old age finally forces me to go even lighter and smaller.

Yeah, I agree re: the back controls on the latest X100’s, I love the d-pad on my X100F, and that’s one of the reasons why I love the X-T5.
The X-T50 is a very interesting camera, and I can see why you’d have one in your setup.
Time will tell whether my X-T5 remains my main camera, particularly after my X100Vi arrives… I prefer the look of the X100Vi, but the functionality and feel of the X-T5 is superb in my opinion.
I am 59 at the end of July, and therefore I feel you when you talk about ageing and camera setups. 😉😂

@@rogerbrooksfilms Ugh. FWIW, I'll be 58 at the end of July. Back when I used Canon DSLRs, I argued that it was worth exercising a lot to be able to lug all that heavy Canon gear around. Switched to Fujifilm starting with X100S and then X-T1 and decided saving about half the weight was a good thing... Pity M43 and smartphones still aren't good enough...

I love my xt5, it is a perfect travel kit when paired with the 16-80 zoom. Though that lens is only f4 you have in body IS and OIS so you can shoot with slow shutter speeds. But, at 77 of age, I do find it heavy so I also have the xt30ii which I use for street work. I pair it with the 23 f2 and sometimes the 27 pancake and that fits in a jacket pocket. It's a lovely little camera and I find I gravitate towards that instead of the xt5, unless it is raining!

Ironically I never really warmed up to the 16-80/4 when I bought it when it was released. Today (07/03/2024) I used it on a trip to Disneyland. It worked rather well, especially stopped down a bit and was fine at f/4 at lower light. In these snapshot situations, I don't really mind if the edges are a little soft. If I didn't need the 80mm reach, I rather use the Sigma 18-50/2.8. Sooner or later, I'll want to try more street photography with my f/2 lenses and probably my XPro2; if that's too heavy, I'll use my X100VI and pretend 23mm focal length is all I'll ever need.

I sold my x100V for the XT5 and did not regret it. I prefer the ergonomics, ability to change lenses, and screen of the XT5 to the X100V or VI.

X100V would make a nice stand alone camera if your main system is not Fujifilm. If your main system is Fujifilm and you could only own one camera of the current sensor generation, I rather own a XT5 than a X100V or X100VI.

If you're ok with manual focus the Voigtlander 27mm Ultron f2 lens is perfect on the XT5. Smaller than any other pancake lens with terrific image quality. They are a bit expensive but worth it imho.

Good call, because I’ve been looking at both their 18 and 27.
I’m trying to have lenses that will also cover any b-roll that I’d like to shoot on the X-T5, although not totally necessary.

Get them all😂. I also have the 100-VI on pre-order. Maybe we will get it by Christmas. About 2 years ago, I sold my Canon gear and bought an X-T5 and several lenses for my main kit. I also recently purchased the X-S20 mainly for a separate video camera and backup to the X-T5 for photography. I also use it for some travel where I want a smaller camera. It’s a great camera as well. Get them all I say. Hope I like the 100-VI.

In the end, that's probably what I'll want to do: buy them all eventually. Life is too short; you just don't know when you'll die. So that next vacation trip might be the last good one; why not buy that XT50 in charcoal? I'm grateful that I'm not really into videography --- my DJI Pocket 3 is adequate for my needs. Would hate to be compelled to also buy a XH2S and/or XS20 as well.

Not a photographer here but I have the same dilemma between xt5 vs x100vi.
My main concern with xt5 if it'll be too "bulky" / "in-your-face" when using it in casual social settings.
While x100vi isn't as inconspicuous as Ricoh gr iiix, it's comparatively 'smaller' (i'm using it loosely here) than xt5.
Given that I'm not using it for professional use - mainly just to document social outings, family events, and perhaps occasional travel needs. I also don't see a huge upside for the interchangeable lens of xt5 other than for the few times that I travel out of the year. I think I would be able to make x100vi's fixed lens work for casual social settings.
I wonder what your take is on xt5 vs. 100vi from a casual user perspective.

    • @rogerbrooksfilms
      @rogerbrooksfilms  2 місяці тому +1

You’ve put a lot of thought into that and in my opinion you’ve got your priorities right.
I will say though that the X-T5 is smaller than most people think, my only concern with it is the viewfinder housing which sticks out for both its size, and the fact that the white Fujifilm logo is on it.
It depends on how inconspicuous you are trying to be when you say that you often use a camera for casual social settings.
Sometimes being inconspicuous is more about the person, and not the camera.
The 35mm (full frame equivalent) focal length of the X100Vi will do everything you need, and even if you want to experiment with something just a little wider then you can use the wide conversion lens on it.
Many people will rightly or wrongly say that adding a conversion lens defeats the purpose of purchasing a smaller camera, however again I’ll say that you can be inconspicuous with practice when using a slightly larger setup.
Cost comes into the equation too.
An X-T5 will obviously require a lens purchase, and that automatically makes it more expensive than a stock X100 (without a conversion lens).
Given what your requirements are, and the fact that you don’t necessarily see an upside with interchangeable lens options, then I’d get the X100.
Appreciate you watching, and I hope that I’ve assisted with your process.

      @@rogerbrooksfilms.
      Thanks for the thoughtful comment.
I felt the same way about the viewfinder housing as well.
My heart was set on xt50 actually. And when I went into the store to hold it xt50 felt super imbalance for me if you have anything on other than a pancake lens. I guess some would argue that xt50 is made to be used with pancake lens - but for me aesthetically that didn’t even look right.
XT5 just fits perfectly in my hand. And felt balanced with the 16-50 or any of the pancake lens. I agree with what you said, you can understand if someone describes it as big - not it’snot like a Canon ‘big’. It’s big but feels just right.
Then they pulled out the x100vi. Urgh. The x100vi was just so sleek and overall just so aesthetically pleasing.
I might just wait for my x100vi order then. Thanks!

I really thought I could learn to love the flip-out screen; in the end I flip the screen closed and pretend I got a XPro3 and only need the EVF... I was a Canon fanboy and never got into Nikon; but, it is great to see Nikon flourish these days and that there's still a lot of used Nikon gear you can easily get and enjoy.

On a n Alaska cruise with both. The X100 does take better pictures e.g mountains with reflections in water and cloudy skies are easily better. You know it’s the X100. On shore excursion the X100 is obviously convenient. From the ship balcony the XT5 with 16-55 is more useful in framing shots. And then you can easily switch zooms. Never expected the image quality that get from X100. And wait list does not matter, your dealer must favor better customers on wait list.

I enjoyed this video, I originally was wanting a X100V in 2023, but ran out of patience waiting. I went for an X-T30ii with the 23mm lens, it's a great little camera but again with the new 40mp X100Vi I'm temped with the high resolution. But with the viewfinder on the far left corner ( I favour my right eye) and maybe waiting for ages on it I'm looking at the X-T5. The X-T5 is available at the moment.
