I did this repair on Nov. 4 2018. I will reply to this comment with updates to let you know how long this repair lasts.
My Amazon Store www.amazon.com/shop/
Nov. 10/18 Still working perfectly.
Dec. 7 2018 and still a perfect picture.
Jan. 1 / 2019 Continues to work fine.
Still good?
Feb. 1 / 2019 Picture is still perfect.
I unlpugged my LG and took a blow dryer and blew it in the vent holes by the motherboard and let it get pretty warm.. Then immedialty plugged it back in and turned it on.. I did this 3 times and it finally worked!!!!
My TV crapped out yesterday. After lots of googling, I found this video this morning. Felt silly baking it, but at zero cost and since the black screen of death didn’t go away overnight, I was thinking what’ve I got to lose? Super happy to report, it totally worked!
Mine works too. After on 15mins i went to sleep. The next morning is dead again. Anny suggestion?
It really worked
My LG 65 inch, 60px950n went into a coma today, turned on, black screen, but with blipps/streak coming and going. Was fed up with it, put it on a app where people pick up second hand stuff free of charge. Guy comes by, looks at it, calls LG support here in Sweden and they say it would be the cost of 300-500 USD to fix it. So, the guy says no deal and doesn't take it with him. I took a look at DIY guides here - most of them is: get this fuse from overseas, resolder, solder and so on...
And then I found this tip here... One hour later... TV's working again...! Zero cost, minimal work. Thanks for taking the time to share this, it made my day :)
@@StefanKronander is it still working
It's 8/14/19 I put my LG TV main board in the oven at 380 degree for 10 min. Put it all back together , turned on the power and it works ! What a great solution.
I can't believe that this worked for me as well. My TV went blank couple of days ago and after watching this video, I followed same steps and TV is back in business. Many Thanks to Chris for making this video.
Wow... I hope it work for me too
Black screen on my LG TV I bought back in 2011. Found this fix as a last ditch effort as replace parts on these older models are spendy. Gave it a shot. Completed the steps using half a pizza box, no foil on top, popped it in the oven. The smell is acrid but goes away quick with the windows open and exhaust on the stove hood. Cooled it for about 10 min with oven off and door open halfway. Then pulled it out and allowed to sit for another 45. Reinstalled, grabbed the remote....hit the buttons totally worked! Awesome!! Thanks Chris N!! Saving people cash.
Seems to working for quite a few people! That's great!!
I picked up a 55" lg i saw on the side of the road wouldn't power on . Can't believe this actually worked but it did!! Thanks so much for making this video. Free tv!!🎉
So I thought this is so odd that I'll just have to try it! I have a Cello TV that has power, no picture or sound that just stopped working about 2 weeks ago. So I opened it up, took out the mother board and put it in the oven for 10 minutes at 200 degrees C. I let it cool down for about 30 minutes and put the TV back together. It was like having a factory rest. It's now working perfectly. Thank you Chris, your tutorial saved me buying a new TV!! I paid the same compliment to Avrim :)
So it works on 200degree? My ofen can go till 250
I have an LG 47LW5600, when I saw this video I was a bit skeptical at first, however, the concept of reflowing the solder joints makes complete sense. I took both boards of my TV and followed the instructions on the video. After I put it together I was simply amazed that it worked! it saved me $700. Thank you so much!.
I came across this fix about 6 years ago for a non working hdmi port. it worked prefectly until A few months ago moved the tv in front of a window which heated the back up. Screen went totally blank this time, with no sound. I was Just about to skip it and came across your video so thought I’d give it another go - and it worked - again! Amazing!
AMAZING! This worked for my 47" LG. The TV would power up, had a screen light up normally for a few seconds and then shut off. Followed this process and it is back to normal! THANK YOU!!!
I did this Feb 20 and got my picture back. Thank you Chris and Avrim. Replaced the power board due to burnt transistors but did not solve the problem. Went to the bake on the video Board and voila magic happened. I now have my TV back.
Question is it still working
Just completed this repair on our old LG 47" flat screen TV. Worked as advertised, easy job.
I forgot to add...thank you Chris for the video. You're helping a lot of people and keeping electronics working and out of the landfill. Good Job!
This works. I followed the (updated) direction to the T. 400F for 10 mins.
My 9 yr old 47-LW5600 tv revived. I had never opened a TV before and it was super easy. Thank you !
Glad it helped!
I cannot believe this works. My Samsung TV would periodically not turn on properly. Backlight would come on, then off, and it would just keep turning on and off endlessly with no picture or sound. Then finally, it shat the bed. I was seconds away from purchasing a new main board and swapping it out until I stumbled upon this video. I already had the circuitry exposed and figured, "what have I got to lose??" If the board melts, I was going to get a new board anyways. If it works, I just fixed my TV. I followed the directions from this video, and to my amazement, my TV works like new again. I am blown away.
Thank you for sharing this trick. I know you said you're not the one who discovered it, but I found your video before theirs, so thank you.
Unbelievable! I baked the MB as instructed and it fixed the no picture problem! Thank you Sir's!
I almost didn't believe this video but like the guy said "If it doesn't work I'll just go buy another TV" I did this and I am happy to say that it worked! This saved me from buying a new TV at least for now.
Thought this was absolutely nuts but gave it a shot before going out to buy a new one....IT FREAKING WORKS !!! Followed the instructions, used the kitchen oven, reassembled the TV and the picture is back, will see how long it lasts....thank you so much, just saved me a lot of money
That's great. It's amazing how many are replying that this worked for them too!
Is it still working???
How many days it's worked bro,??
I just tried this method to fix my 11 year old LG, and it worked!!! Thank you for putting this up. Saved me from buying a new TV.
It worked! Followed instructions religiously and my 42 lg tv was back to life. Man you saved me 1200 dollars.. and the video is very well done it’s one of the best i have ever seen, short yet gives you all you need to know without all the bla bla.. you the man.. thank you so much
That's great! Thanks for the feedback!
Update on yours George??
All i can say is thank you. My LG 55LW5600 fritzed last night while gaming. Researched, found this video...reluctantly put the motherboard in the oven....and it worked. Crazy. I was even researching new TVs on Amazon during the 45 minute cool down. I don't know how much time this bought me, but thank you!
That's great!
Chris Notap - and just like that...it’s not working again. Curious if you have recommendations...bake it again? Higher temps/longer? Throw it out a window?
It works because the factory only half bakes them
I would like to know more about, are tv motherboard supposed to be backed? Thanks

Did this yesterday to my LG 42LV5500 that went out last November. Brought the TV back to life! Thanks!
This is awesome...it works! I just did it following directions exactly and my 42" LG LCD TV is back!!! I can't believe it worked, but it makes sense to refloat the motherboard and clean out all the dust while in there. Solder shrinks after years and the wires begin to pop thru, so a refloat is what the doctor ordered! Thank you, Chris!!!!
Glad I could help
@@chrisnotap Hey, Chris. You should consider putting up a voluntary "Go fund me" link in the description of this video. I and a lot of others would like to contribute a financial Thank You to you for your time and effort. It's just right. Thanks again, brother.
@@curious1curious I may consider doing that. Thanks!
Oh my goodness! It worked! No smell whatsoever. Slow cool, re-assemble, It worked! Re-connects microscopic cracks in solder.
I tried this method on my LG 47le8500 and it worked! Thank you so much for posting this fix! I was this close to calling a tv repair shop to get it fixed, but no more.
My 13yr old son said this was crazy and wouldn't work. So I tried it thinking a loose solder joint. IT WORKS !!!!!!. My sons mouth hit the ground. Thanks again
Great job!
Hello, a couple of days ago, my 7 years old LCD LG TV got black screen and no sound with power indicating light on. I followed your instructions on u tube, baking the motherboard in the oven for 10 mins at 385C and put it back together. My surprise!!!. It worked. I really appreciate your repair tip.
385 Fahrenheit!
It really works!!!
My LG TV just got another life. It stopped working after showing a black and white image. Putting the board in the oven for 10 mins revived it back. Hopefully it lasts for few years.
Well I'll be dang !!!
It friggin' worked !!!
I just acquired a VIZIO VA370M that was manufactured in 2009 today's date is Aug. 13 2019.
When I brought this set home and plugged it in I shined a bright flashlight at the screen while turning it on thinking the back light was defective.
Sure enough the symptoms were the exact same , The VIZIO logo below the screen turned white from orange and stayed white.
The person I got it from said that it had no picture or sound, affirmed when I did not see an image with the flashlight.
So I ripped the $116.00 main board out of it, wrapped it completely in aluminum foil, put it in a 390° oven (checked it with a digital thermometer ) cooked it for 12 minuets, cracked the oven door open for 45 min. to let it cool (it was still 110°) when I installed it, plugged everything up and VOILA ! I was greeted by the VIZIO logo on the screen !
So I guess I'll be back in about 4 months to give an update.
KUDOS CHRIS NOTAP !
That's great!
Update us when you can.
I have an LG 55LB5550 that started to flicker. Tried this process and it WORK!!!! The component in the back was a lot smaller so I only put it in the oven for 375 for 10mins. Let it cool, replaced it, turned on the tv and still flickering. I got a little disappointed so I powered it off for about 20mins, turned it on and I couldn't believe it! Just like new!
Thanks!
Glad it helped!!
Found an LG TV in the garbage room. The backlight worked but no picture. I followed this guide together with my brother-in-law and woah it worked. I would never had tried this alone but I trusted my brother-in-law. I'm amazed it worked. Got a free HD-TV. Will do this on all TVs I find in my garbage room to either keep them or sell them. Thanl you VERY MUCH Chris Notap AND my brother-in-law.
I baked it in my toaster oven for 10 minutes at 390F and fixed the problem but only worked for 5 minutes and then went back to no image nor sound. I baked it a second time but this time for 15 minutes and let it cool down slowly. I watched TV for the rest of the night without any issues so fingers crossed it will stay that way. Thanks for sharing. Going to try it on another appliance that is giving me problems
Thanks! My LG TV, though a different model, was experiencing similar problems last night, and I couldn't get it to turn on. I checked everything internally and it all looked good. Then found your video online. I REALLY didn't think this was a motherboard problem but more of a power board issue, but decided to try this anyway on the motherboard. It worked! Wow! Thanks for posting. You saved me a lot of money.
Glad it helped!
I have a 55LE5400 that showed the LG logo and that it couldn't connect.
I did this yesterday, and it worked perfectly. I put the toaster oven out on the porch. My toaster oven is digital, so I can only choose 375 F or 400 F...I went with 375 F, and it registered 390 F on thermometer, and I baked it for 10 minutes with foil under and over it with the oven rack in the middle of the oven (I forgot the cardboard).
I let it cool and set it back in place, and it worked perfectly.
The most annoying and time consuming part is unscrewing all the screws.
Definitely take pictures to make sure you know where to put the screws back...there are "extra holes" around the board, and the picture was very useful.
Chris, thank you sincerely. Tried this on a 60 inch lg at my work which was going to get thrown away. Now it's in my living room working fine! Apart from hiccup having to increase the temperature and do it for 11 minutes is it working fine still. Thank you again good sir. 👍
That’s great.
It worked for a week then went blank again,re cook a second time and again worked for about 2 weeks and after 3rd recooked it did not work anymore
Skeptical at first, but like he said got nothing to lose tried it and it worked. Thanks man good stuffs
BIG T Townsend hi
Worked for my 42" LG TV. A bit different to take apart though. It had no picture, but sound worked. Special note is that the foam blocks are a special material for thermal transfer......make sure you put them where they came from!
It worked like magic on LG 37LG60 (with no picture or sound). The board is on the bottom right side, with all the input and output jacks (and the red side part).
I opened all those little yellow and black screws around the stainless steel cover and the board sitting on the metal tray (and the red side pard). I then put it in the oven, as directed, and after cooling down, reassembled the whole thing. Apparently any disconnection/solder got reconnected, and the board became as good as new.
Thanks a lot for the video!
Amazingly enough this oven solution worked for me. I was very skeptical at first but figuring the melting point of solder would be in the 385 degree range it obviously did something but It Works, thank you so much.
Bill
I was about to scrap the TV because of a flashing screen and no sound. After watching this, I gave it a go and unbelievably it worked. You sir, are a legend 👍
Glad I could help
This actually worked! Me and my partner were about to throw out our $2000 TV and I tried this and worked; thank you so so much!
That's great!

Have a 10 year old lg 55 inch tv
The other night my wife was watching and the picture went off
I looked around and tryed every troubleshooting there is
I saw your video and told the wife
We gave it a go and MATE it worked
So far so good
Thanks bro
That's great!
Thanks for sharing such a simple but very effective solution, surprisingly many people don’t try to understand the basic procedure, don’t listen properly & don’t note down key points, l am happy that you also show in very nice & very simple way how to release board from all cables which many times become problem to just release them, & before throwing tv in the garage, nothing wrong to try this zero cost simple technique. Thanks for sharing. 👍🙏
You're very welcome!
I was skeptical, but this worked on my 9 year old 55" LG!!! Thank you!!
works like a charm, saved my TV from going to the recycle depot. Thank you so much !!!! I don't know though how long this fix will last but for now it working perfectly !!!!
I had a similar problem and gave this a go as I had nothing to lose. And would you believe it, it worked! Thank you for the tip!
Fantastic!
I just fixed my LG 47” tv by baking the board. It’s not a hoax after all!! I was pleasantly surprised when after years of being in storage to be repaired some day, this is all it took to get it going like new again. 😃
That's great!!
don't care if it works or not. I like how clearly easyly to understand and concisely you explain all.
Thanks for that!!
That is idiotic the whole point of the thing was that it worked out how easily explain something that did not
Wow, I did not really expect this to work. But my LG 55UB850V went black two days ago and works again now after baking the mainboard. Thanks!
Last night my 2013 LG LED 50-in TV suddenly developed the blank screen. Sound worked but when I shined a flashlight through the screen I noticed the picture, so I thought okay let me give this a try. 10 minutes to remove the back cover, another 5 minutes to remove the motherboard. Followed the directions exactly and I cannot believe it worked. Was actually looking at new TVs yesterday, so hopefully this will last a while. Thank you for posting this video.
That's great!
Tried this again this time oven at 400f for 15 minutes. Cooled it down for 45 minutes. Turned the TV on and then went blank screen after 30 minutes again. At this point, since it appears to definitely be the motherboard, I found a replacement motherboard online for $60 that I ordered today. Arrives in a few days I will report back with results.
Thanks Chris. I had this LG TV not working for close to 3 year and yesterday decided to take it to recycle. Saw you video and your words "what I got to lose" made me follow the instructions and it really worked. Thanks to Avrim and you and hope this helps others not to just put in garage or recycle.
That's great!
I found this tv on the side of the road that had a note 'free'. Tried this and boom...picture. thank you very much!
Sweet!!
I was doubtful but had nothing to lose. Came apart in 5 min and back together in just over an hour. It worked like a charm.
That is fantastic. I have dome mine 3 times now and it keeps coming back from the dead.
Mine never did
I can’t believe this just worked for me!!!!! It must be melting the littler cracked solder joints throughout the board and allowing them to reconnect. I don’t know and I don’t care. I bought a broken Tv from goodwill for $40 and cooked part of it and now it works! Amazing!
Fantastic!!
I'm going to add to the growing list of people who have done this to say, "I did it, it works" incredible. On pressing the remote, my LED would go off, it would 'click' as if starting like usual, but nothing would happen after that. Before the complete failure, it lasted about 3 months of having to turn the TV on and off again before the screen and sound eventually came on. But it failed while watching it and repeated attempts of turning it off and on, no longer worked. My TV, an LG 55LA9650 has 3 PC boards and another board that looked like the power supply. I only did the mother board, following the instructions in the video. Happy to say it worked on first attempt.
Ok, so my first attempt, while successful, only lasted two weeks. However, I did it again yesterday, and TV is now working again. Pretty much repeated the same procedure, same temperature, same length of time, we'll see how long this lasts. 👍
I did this repair with an LG 42le730n motherboard, besides some plastic smelling smoke from the oven. It worked out perfect. Highly recommend it. Issue was, no picture no sound and lg led pulsing white 5 times.
Can't believe that this actually worked. I have a 55 inch LG LED that had no picture or sound not even it a flicker. Followed Chris's video and BAM everything is working. A little disappointed that I won't be getting that 70 inch now, but my wife is thrilled. Now she wants me to bake a strudel. Thank you
Thanks mine packed up 5 days ago. I was about to call the insurance to replace it. Found your video. Tried it as I have nothing to loose. Bingo! TV now works. Whatever happened in that oven...it was a nice baking :)
I came across this video today after my Samsung that I fixed died. I had this LG laying around with the same symptoms that you had.
I watched this, and thought "This is nuts. This isn't going to work". I was ready to order a mainboard, but decided to try to bake it.
I baked it and let it cool. I put one screw in it to test. No way this is going to work.
I plugged it in and turned on. I immediately saw the LG logo! I'm in complete shock
TV assembled now, and running great. We will see how long it lasts. I read your history. Nice work.
It's crazy how many people this has worked for!!
My LG 42" presented us with the black screen of death after 9 years faithful work. Cost for a new main circuit board, around £150. Cost to fix by the oven method, free (we have solar panels). Unbelievable that this works but it does. Thanks.
My problem is different but I have to say, this might be one of the best fix-it videos I've ever seen. The close ups made this a great video. Nice work! No goofy music, no minutes of taking out screws, no minutes of reversing the removal.
Can you do one for rebuilding 8 speed automatic transmissions from a C8?
Thanks for that!
No way. Amazing. I wasted hundreds of pounds on repairs on a big Samsung TV. The TV engineer probably just did this hack anyway. Thanks. A new subscriber here
I did this repair today 22.06.2020 and worked first time. Saved me a lot of money. Thanks
Great to hear!
Good news , it's work for my TV LG 47LW5600 , the bad news is i have to watch my old TV again , thanks for you video Chris Notap
I have the 47LW6500 and 1st time in oven on 4/28/19 and today 6/18/19 no picture and sound again so I might have to skip the oven and RE SOLDER it but does anyone know if I can use any electronic solder?
@@Gleeleeglee , first time i put in oven for 10 minutes at 385 degres used for 2 weeks then black screen again , seconde time in oven for 12 minutes at 400 degres still good until now 3 weeks already pass and still work good , try to use the heat gun if you want , and later if it happen again maybe i cut the cover where mother board at , so i don't need to take off everything , only take out mother board put in oven .
My microwave didn't have a setting for 385 degrees, so I just put it on high. Really sparky and caught on fire. Now both my TV and Microwave are broken.
@SciGuy Woosh!
Lol! I was hoping you weren't serious!!
@@chrisnotap LOL, it's okay. I put my microwave in my gas range and set it for 385 Celsius, just like you told me. It never got up to that temp, but it did burn away all the plastic in the microwave. Just pulled the metal parts out and swept the remains into the garbage. Had to ventilate the house for a few hours and the cat died, but I didn't like Mr. Slippy-Claws anyway.
As an alternative, you could try warming one of your hands by bypassing all the door-close safety devices and putting in the hand you want warmed before starting the microwave. Not really! You would cook yourself and anyone close by with the escaping radiation. But for killing your cat, that would be just retribution.

This is living proof that the internet is still useful
Thanks man, this still works. Just fixed my TV with it today.
Good tip on the smell, so I used an old toaster over in the shop for this. It couldn't quite get to 385, but it got the job done.

It did smell a bit but all odors are gone in less then 20 minutes.
That's great!! Yes, it does create quit an odour but it dissipates in short time.
It fixed my 11 y/o 55” LG tv! Crazy. I followed exactly his procedure and only had to spend $9 on an oven thermometer. Unlike his, my tv screen would not turn on at all, and only the little white light in the lower right corner would turn on. Thanks!
That's great!!
Just did this on my 55” LG. Was really easy to do. Same trick worked on my ps3. A few years back.
I did this and it worked but only lasted for a month!! Was worth a shot!
I don't usually leave comments but this hack just worked on my TV! Mind Blown! Great idea. My LG power was on, light showed power in the bottom right hand corner. TV was black. I was SUPER skeptical, but it worked! Nice Job!
I was skeptical too! That's why I made the video.
Thank you for the video. I woke up on Thanksgiving morning (yesterday) found out my LG TV gave up. It was just a flash when turned on. I was thinking this black Friday with 75" SamSung at Costco then I found your video. Like you said what do I got to lose? I did it first time with 385°/10 minutes, it didn't work. I tried again one hour later and increase to 15 minutes, it works! Big thanks to you!
OMG!!!.... It really does work I can't believe it ...now my TV is working perfectly, thank so very much!!!
Tried this when my LG (55UK6750PLD) went black but the sounds remained. After heating the motherboard in the oven, half of the screen shines significantly more but still has no image. So in other words, it hasn't worked for me! 🤔
At least you tried and had nothing to lose by trying!
@@chrisnotap
You are absolutely right. Now I am testing it again. Didn't have aluminum foil on last time.
Now the TV doesn't light up like before, but the sound still works normally. You can see some light changes when you change the channel, before it was black. Possibly it is the led lighting behind that needs to be replaced.
I have to look for a new TV 🤣
Our LG 55 inch tv just stopped working today. Tried this and now it is working again. Thank you for posting this.

Chris you are a legend I tried this on my LG Tv and it worked after i installed the mother board. Thanks man
Jude Fernandes is it serious?
i have done this at least 7 times and it works every time.
How long have they lasted afterwards for you?
Can you not use a regular oven at the setting of 385? Or do I HAVE to use a toaster oven?
Just tried this trick on our LG and I blew my wife’s mind. Thank you!

As a summary, I have done this several times, with about 2 month effect lasting, each time, anyway, a little better than throwing it.

That's great! If you read the top comment you'll see that I have done mine 3 times now and it continues to come back from the dead!!
It worked, I parked my car in the oven after my car stopped running. Thankyou so up much.
Finally my LG TV alive again. Thank you very much for the useful tips.
I guess it's reflowing a dodgy solder joint on a BGA chip somewhere. I've done a similar thing on graphics cards with BGA graphics chips but using a heat gun to localise the heat to just the chip.
You're right. Tech from the past 10 years encounters this problem quite often. It's usually caused by solder cracking. The cracking is a side affect of the use of lead-free solder.
That's great that a heat gun works. The only thing about a heat gun is the heat is hard to control and replicate but if you've done it a bunch of times you get to know the gun. Thanks for that tip.

Tried this exact process and my LG 55" inch 10 year old TV sprung back to life after going into coma for a couple of days. Thank you !!
Great to hear!
There are probably some bad solder joints that have oxidized over time, the heat partially re-flows the solder fixing the connection. It's actually a sign of a poorly manufactured PCB.
PS: Best to use a reflow oven when doing this, as these are specifically made for this and follow a specific heating pattern.
Maybe it would be possible to imitate that heating patern in a normal oven

2. Soak: _Stay between 150-170°C temperature for 60-120 seconds_
3. Reflow: _Increase temperature by 1-3°C/sec up to 217°C_
4. Cooling: _Lower temperature by 2-4°C/sec until it's below 50-70°C_
The real issue is the lead free solder they use nowdays. It does not have the lasting electrical bond like the not used leaded solder.
@@geosid1696 You're right!
I often forget to mention that as I prefer to use a reflow station, manual soldering iron and leaded solder on my early prototype designs, even when using small 0603 or 0402 sized SMD components. This way it's easy to solder only part of the circuit, tests functionality and detect issues early on, then continue with the next parts. After the prototyping stage most future PCB's are automatically assembled by a pick and place machine, where lead free solder is used.
