You can imagine the Alderaanian Senator’s surprise when, just weeks later, he learned a disturbing truth. Bail and Mon Mothma discussed the potential fallout for those who challenged the emergency powers granted to Palpatine during the Clone Wars, and their talk soon turned to how to fight against the newly established Galactic Empire. A mysterious, masked figure dressed in black, along with a group of clone troopers descended from a nearby shuttle as Mon was expressing her belief that some Jedi must have survived Order 66. As the group passed, Bail overheard the clones call the man Lord Vader. Seized with shock, Bail lost his breath, and his legs grew weak. He clung to the platform railing to steady himself and agreed that indeed, some Jedi had survived.
"I won't kill you, I'll just remove 3 of your 4 limbs and leave you inches from a giant river of lava."
Three of your three.
He'll mutilate him, rob him, and leave him suffering a few inches from lava. As long as he doesn't kill him he's free to do anything else he wants
It is whAt it is 🤷🏻♂️
I mean I’d think he was dead if I was obi wan.
To be fair if I was Obi wan and I chopped off 3 of someone’s limbs and watch them combust into flames while screaming in agony right in front of me with no viable means of escape, I’d tell my superiors the man was dead too
Should have gone with "I must put him out of his misery" excuse
but that was the same excuse vader used to kill the younglings. he didn't want to stoop to the same level.
@@haydensprinkle
I don't think he could've mercy-killed Anakin without falling to the dark side himself.
His emotions were in such turmoil that the only option for him to keep his sanity intact was to refuse to witness the death of his brother in the force.
@@GayLPer lose lose situation honestly, the guilt of believing you left your former, apprentice/brother to die a painful death, would make you feel guilt enough to push you over the edge to the darkside, then finding out he survived and became Vader, the guilt of knowing every death he caused was partly your fault because you didn't end it when you could
Well it's a good thing he never killed him because if Anakin was dead he would not have been around to kill the Emporer and "save the galaxy" which was his destiny
@@sword4005
True, should've finished the job, but... not the will of the force I guess
I think Batman said it best to Raz Al Ghul in Batman Begins. I'm not going to kill you, but I don't have to save you either!
Obi wan did the same here with Anakin
Exactly although at the same time it could be argued that killing anakin would’ve been a mercy compared to what happened to him but at the same time I think obi wan didn’t kill him because it was an extremely emotional moment for him and didn’t want to risk falling to the dark side after killing anakin
Defenseless? The guy tried to kill his master!
At the time he was defenseless, he had his limbs cut off and was burning to death
@@shaanvinoth9277 At the time, he jumped over Kenobi with the intention of stabbing him in the back.
@@jackflanagan9499 I know. But now our bro is a literal toast. He cant wield a weapon.
@@jackflanagan9499yeah we get it and you’re right but that doesn’t change anything.
Obi wan pulled his lightsaber first
And then Vader went on to kill more Jedi and thousands and thousands of innocent people. 👀
yee but he saved his own son so obviously that balances out duh
balance...as all things should be
@@haydensprinkle but if obi would've just finished anikin with a final blow Vader wouldn't of had to save his son. It's a major plot hole. Then we learn in the obi won series that obi wan had a 2nd chance to finish of Vader and still didn't do it. 🤯
And overthrow the emperor
because he couldn't bring himself to do it and because anakin dying was not part of the force's plan
"That one..." (Maris Brood)
"She reminds me too much of another Young Jedi who turned to the Dark Side." -Senator Bail Organa
(Star Wars: The Force Unleashed)
Finally, a man of culture 🗿🍷💯...
He didn’t kill him because the next 3 movies came out first
FINALLY SOMEONE WITH A BRAIN!! LOL
Exactly, anakin has to live regardless
I do not think Bail knew Lord Vader was Anakin. He knew that Obi-wan and Yoda had witnessed Anakin's fall to the dark side, but Obi-wan also reported that Anakin was dead on the planet of Mustafar. So how can you say Bail knew Vader was Anakin?
I once read that there were 10,000 Jedi when the Clone Wars began, but after Order 66 less than 300 survived.
Vader then hunted them down. And Jaba the Hut told Luke: "I have been killing Jedi for a long time."
@@worldtipperwell jabba was almost 600 years old when he said that so he was probably referencing occasions long before the Imperial Era as well
Shows how weak they were
I thought I saw it was 10,000 before the battle of geonosis and after only 14% of Jedi survived which roughly means well over 1,000 were alive during the start of clone wars
@@malvo5190Only ~200 Jedi were killed at Geonosis. A further 100 were killed prior to Padme's speech on Alderaan about a year or so later.
I mean how can you kill a man who was your brother?
Please re-edit to say, "an unarmed man." 😂😂😂
He left his fate up to the will of the force. It was not because he was unwilling to kill him. He believed it would be merciful. He felt Palpatine coming and he didn't have time to go back down the embankment and back up and still have time to escape.
Bail Organa is such an interesting character, I wish we got to see more of him
Wow. Never knew what Bail's reaction was till now. Awesome video.
Did he not see Vader was behind the massacres before he got the armor?
I would assume yes. He was on board the Tantive IV when the twins were born and Obi wan had just reported back so…
Obiwan thought death would be a mercy to Anakin-and he was not feeling merciful. Basically the opposite motivation of what you reported lol
If this is true it makes not killing Vader all the more shameful, he could've prevented countless more deaths. If he spared the killing blow to uphold his Jedi values, although lives would be later lost because of this inaction, Obi could still have a sense of integrity. Leaving him to suffer for the sake of mercilessness not only allows Vader to survive and continue slaughtering but also sets Obi-Wan on a path to the Dark Side.
@@superobotmonkey it's from the ROTS novelization
Imagine Bail's worry for Liea 😬
He made him defenseless on purpose, he used a forbidden technique to remove all his limbs because he knew he could not kill Anakin, as it would destroy him.
You don't want to kill him yourself, fine. At least wait there and make sure he dies from the lava before you leave.
He left it up to the force whether he lived or died. He wanted no part in that choice.
Also he was trying to save padme which is why he left immediately
Obi-Wan couldn't do what must be done. I hold him responsible for unleashing Vader on the galaxy 🤨
It was an extremely emotional situation for Obi wan so he could’ve fell to the dark side afterwards plus I think he was more focused on trying to help padme since in obi wans eyes anakin was left defenceless
Obi wan is like batman here when it comes to no killing
What book is this?
This wasn't about principles, Obiwan briefly considered putting Vader out of his misery on Mustafar.
It was about priorities. He ran off immediately to try to save Padme and her unborn children.
A saber throw could have done the trick, but in that moment fueled by so much anguish and hatred there's a chance Anakin could have ripped it out of his control (this paragraph was pure arbitrary speculation on my part.)
Or a simple force push. But he spared Vader twice.
I want to see this moment depicted in The Bad Batch (Season 3).
Is this cannon? Bail had a way to communicate with Obi-Wan as we saw in the kenobi series. Even if communications were reserved for emergencies only, id say letting Obi-Wan know that his former padawan survived and is now a science-fiction OP version Frankenstein's Monster is an *F'N EMERGENCY!*
This is Legends.
No it is because Obi-Wan has Mercy for Anakin mercy enough to end him but that the charred broken man which lay before him that was not Anakin that was a sith and there is no mercy in his heart for the sith that killed anakin
Well he should have. Would have saved a few headaches.
Wow , where can i read this encou ter of Bail with Vader ?
Lol love that book😊
What book is it?
But did he know that vader was anakin ?
I believe he did. He certainly would have been told that Anakin had joined Palpatine and the Sith.
I think so. Obi wan knew that Vader was anikin skywalker because he heard palpatine call him that while watching the Jedi temples holograms, and he probably told Organa and Yoda about it as well
No, Obi Wan decided NOT to rescue the man from his misery. There's a difference. I don't blame him....but that was not a "principles" move...
But did Organa even know that Anakin went by the name Vader in ep?
I'd have to watch again but it seems that Organa only knew him as Skywalker, never Vader (until sometime later, I assume he later found out).
I would have got chills seeing him then hearing his name
Obi-Wan won't kill a defenseless man, that's not the High Ground way
Yoda: “after cutting off his legs… finish it, did you?”
Obi Wan: “I couldn’t, he was defenseless, it’s against the code”
Yoda: “so… still alive was he?”
Obi Wan: “kind of… he was burning from the crotch up”
Yoda: “wait hold up, so instead of just killing him right there and ending it quickly you left him there with no limbs … burning to death, dick first?”
Obi Wan: “well, now that you put it that way…”
Yoda: “deserved this we did”
20 years later:
“LEFT HIM THERE TO BURN YOU DID HMMMM??? SURE HE WAS DEAD YOU TOLD ME! A MUCH BIGGER PROBLEM YOU DID CREATE”
“In my defense how was I supposed to know he would survive on hatred alone”
“Maybe because CUT OFF HIS LIMBS AND LEAVE HIM TO BURN YOU DID?”
“Well if he didn’t hate us before, he probably does now”
“THINK, DO YOU?”
I love the idea of Yoda just losing his sh*t at Obi-Wan
Obi-Wan was a loser choad for not killing Vader. Vader deserved to die for killing the Jedi younglings, but Obi pussed out.
All this because Obi Wan was a coward and refused to put Anakin out of his misery. Then he lied about it, because again, coward.
Bail discovers Vader was still alive only weeks after he was thought to be killed by Kenobi, but sees no reason to give Kenobi a heads up, so Kenobi doesn't find out until 10 years later.
That was the part of the Kenobi series that annoyed me. It took 10 years for him to discover Vader was still alive. Vader wasn't someone who would lay low for a decade. Surly he was becoming known thtoughout the galaxy, and even though Obi-Wan was in hiding, he did come into contact eith smugglers and other travelers who've been hassled by the Empire. Surly somebody would have mentioned the Emperor's enforcer named Darth Vader
Anakin Skywalker didn't survive Clone Wars. He die in attack on the Jedi Temple....
Even in episode 3, we never hear a confirmation of Anakin dying, just that they needed to hide the twins from the sith. Hell, was Bail ever told about Anakin becoming Vader? He wasn’t on mustafar, and was at the emergency session when Obi-Wan and Yoda found out it was Anakin. Even Padmé refused to believe it at first
How did nail know that Vader was anakin? Different height, voice, and look, but Bail heard the word “Vader” and thought, “oh my gosh it’s Anakin!”
Anakin agrees that he deserved more than what he received from Obi Wan. (even though Anakin had to survive because he was the only one to get close enough to kill Vader and Palpatine..ending The Sith..It was foreseen)
Bail was wrong. Some Jedi may have survived, but Vader was not one of them. The Jedi who was Anakin Skywalker died a long time ago.
He didn’t want to kill him plain and simple. He hoped the lava / fire would finish the job. Obiwan saw anakin as his brother. So to kill anakin would take great strength finish him and have the pain he killed his brother for the good of the galaxy. He would be more devastated. Y’all seriously don’t get it. Plus he is the chosen one to bring balance in the force.
"Refuses to betray his principles". Fiven he thoghr that anakin was going do die from his wounds, and left someone to suffer from. Being burned alife near the smoke and dumes of lava, there aint alot of principles in that.
Um, why did Obi-Wan not finish off Skywalker when he had the chance!?! I’m pretty sure that had something to do with it but I’m pretty sure it was the fact that he saw the Darth Sidius ship arriving and he knew that if he went down there to end it that the chances of him getting away tired and worn out as he was almost none! And maybe he justified it later on by saying he was helpless. But that was not the main reason
Obi wan didn’t leave Anakin on mustufar because of his principles, it’s because he was too weak to kill his friend
Honestly he should have killed him.
Im sorry it is important to have principals but there is a time to make exceptions and obi wan should have put anakin out of his misery
This would have never happened, if Obi Wan Kenobi joined Count Dooku when he had the chance.
It's more putting him out of his misery plus taking a chess piece off the board... _huge_ mistake
Nightfall Vader*
Its knightfall not night fall 🗡️not🌌
Why in the holy hell didn't Obi wan KILL Anakin then and there on Mustafar?
You make it sound like Obi Wan not killing him was an act of mercy or something.
He was wrong if he was thinking about Anakin, as Anakin had been killed by Vader
Dee rap like granddad from the boondocks
does this take place in one of the post order 66 comics ?
he literally killed grievous tho.
You could say he was unarmed.
How would Organa know Anakin was Vader? Assuming Yoda and Obi-Wan shared the information from the video feed of the Jedi temple, Organa would most likely know that Anakin was responsible for killing numerous Jedi but not that he and Vader are the same.
Probably on the security footage where palpatine declared Anakin as Darth Vader
Read the books. Dark Lord The Rise of Darth Vader explains this all. Yes Yoda and Obi told Bail who he had become
He’s told everything after Padmes death
Imagine if Vader was close enough to detect the shock coming from Bail....
@@trence5 I totally thought that while reading the part!!!

Refuses to kill a defenseless man but cowardly refused to help too and instead watched that defenseless man burn and suffer the immense torture of burning alive.....gotta stay true to your 'principles' I guess.
We are talking about the guy who slaughtered the younglings and helped build a galactic dictatorship. Plus it was a safe assumption that burning alive with no limbs was gonna kill Anikan
