I bought this last week, and have put 1000 rounds through it so far. One thing I’ve noticed about the 20 rounder, is it actually holds 21. 22 is a bit tight, but 21 is good to go.
I honestly think it’s a bit snappy, or at least did in the first few hundred rounds. I shoot a lot of 40 and 45 as well, which is less snappy and more of a push in my opinion. As far as ability to stay on target, it gets back to zero very fast. I haven’t shot the m&p 2.0 so I can’t compare against that. It’s a pretty light pistol overall, with only 1.2 inches in width, so that may be a factor affecting the recoil impulse. I wanna say the recoil spring seems fairly light, which probably is the biggest factor affecting it. Either way it’s nothing that would deter me from continuing to shoot it regularly.
I thought I was just making a mistake or something when I discovered about the ammo capacity that was actually a nice little surprise use the speed reloader to access extra rounds
I saw a comment where someone said it was a kit bash of other designs and features, but that's what is going to make it a seller. I'm looking forward to owning one.

Even though I agree with you, I have to say this. We can not carry a rifle everywhere. I need a good pistol to get me to where I can pick up my rifle. I'll take a rifle any day over a pistol.
As always you do a excellent job on your reviews. Iam a big Springfield fan with a XD 9 SUB COMPACT and a XDS 45 ACP and a Hellcat Pro and my next will be a ECHELON thank you for doing a great job.
I really like to look of this gun, the features and idea of it. My guess is they will release this and move to smaller models, because honestly most people today aren’t buying full-size duty pistols, or looking for compact or subcompact. I hope Springfield releases those models.
Not sure if it was mentioned and perhaps this is common knowledge, but wanted to note that the OEM optic mounting screws that came with your red dot (i.e. Trijicon RMR, Leupold DP, etc..) generally cannot be used on the Echelon because of the low cut of the VIS system and the OEM screws being too long. Shorter length screws are needed to mount an RMR, a DP, and perhaps others. You can either cut the OEM screws yourself or go to the Springfield Armory online store for the Echelon where they sell a packet of screws that are already properly cut for the Echelon system and accommodating the various brands of red dots
I handled one today in a local gun store. I was surprised at the light weight feel for such a full size firearm. The front sight seems to grab your eyes for target acquisition. One thing I do not like is the polymer recoil spring rod. They break. Busted one in my Beretta PX4 Storm a few years back. Beretta sent me a metal rod replacement. It was my CCW but no longer. I bought a S&W M&P 2.0 to replace it. Awesome job on the review!!

I love my CZ's for that reason and was thinking of dishing out the extra $$ for a shadow systems MR 920L elite, but now I'm tempted to save the money and pick this up. I have smaller hands so the modularity is a big deal. Also, the grip angle looks more optimized, allowing for easier grip to get the hand high up-- perhaps similar to shadow systems?

For its 10th birthday, I gave my XDM a Powder River Precision trigger upgrade. Looks like it might be getting a new brother now too! However, the Echelon's trigger has to come close to the Walther PDP and the Canik Mete series in order for me to really consider it...
Great review. Honestly, the only thing that is giving me pause about this gun is the lack of safety. I dont think the trigger safety is enough. I know there is a safety to protect against drops, but I also prefer the grip safeties in tandem with the trigger safety like on the XD.
The brg 9 mm pistol imported by Buffalo cartridge company is available in a tactical version that mimics many of these features as well as the XD elite.
I bought this today. The trigger is killer! Absolutely killer! Was going get another vp9 but then i saw this and didn't know they were new. Echelon much nicer.
Xdms are tac drivers.I have 4 of them that i shoot in idpa.I swap the xdm trigger with a powder river trigger. You end up with a 2.5lb trigger pull with an 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch travel and reset.
It looks great, but I hope they will make them in 10mm AUTO. Then,it would be one gun for all purposes. House protection, concealed carry, outdoors protection , a new generation of XDM 4"5 in 10mm AUTO. A step forward.
I'll grab one as soon as they make a G19 sized version. I'm surprised how many people want a duty-sized gun, but I suppose if they sold the compact first, it might hurt sales of the longer version (more than vice versa).
I let this gun vet itself until March 2024...after which I saw no reason not to go for it. 5 months and countless rounds in...I Love this pistol. Great home defense pistol and just a Hell of a lot of fun to run. Runs like a Champ
Beautiful, ready, willing and able. GLOCK 17 GEN 6, but better. Can't wait for the compact g19 sized. 3 family members own Croatia Arms H2000 in 3 different calibers. Solid and more widely available as Springfield pistols.
Wow! This is what Glock should have done with their pistol 10 years ago. It's a great looking but practical featured pistol. Too bad it's Springfield Armory that came out with it. Excellent review as always, Don.
Great job on this review! I definitely want to shoot one. I like the 3 different size grips. I don't know how holster companies can keep up with all these gun manufacturers changes. I almost anymore locate my holster before buying my handgun. Anyway, thanks for another awesome review.
When I turned 21 in 2000 I bought a Walther P99 .40 and a Springfield XD .45 it was a bad boy held 15+1 of .45 , I have since upgraded I have the Walther PDP F Series, and the Springfield Elite 3.8 in 10mm have mags that hold 16+1 and 12 rounders, I wish they would have kept the stainless steel but they had to go cheap somewhere by giving us all this gun!!!! The Match barrel, match trigger, the slide cerrations the slide cut, the grip, the sights and the gas pedal.......AND ALL FOR ONLY $50-$75 MORE THEN A STOCK BLOCK OF JUNK!!! THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I DO NOT OWN A GLOCK! MY BUDDY HAS A NICE GLOCK BUT IT'S GOT $1400-$1500 INTO IT......THIS IS JUST EXACTLY WHAT I EXPECT WHEN YOU GET A SPRINGFIELD ARMORY FIREARM!!! THEIR 1911's are JUST AMAZING, I WENT WITH THE ALPHA FOXTROT S15 FOR 1911/2011
Much like everything else I wanna get my hands on this before i start gushing over it. But I'm a fan of the functionality of the slide, ambi mag release (just in case my wrong-handed wife needs to use it) and the 320-esque modular design. I don't really need another full sized 9mm striker fire handgun but this one is a pretty attractive package.
It looks like another Canik mete sft 20rd gun. Its a new SA 9mm and it shoots great and crisps, no mishaps in this video. Maybe not for low energy and low quality ammo. Its big 20rd capacity mag attracts me. SA xdm 45 really impressed me too, it shoots great with fmj and jhp ammo. 👍
I love that optic mounting system only one doing something similar is Shadow systems This should be the new standard optic plates Suck they just make the optic higher
Nice review, but it’s hard for me to get excited about another “new” model that to me is just another variation of what has been around for years but now at a new, increased price. New models are also looking more and more like race guns with extreme texturing and serrations, not to mention expensive optics. I don’t fault any who will buy this gun or red dots, but to me there’s nothing excited new here.
Looks mighty fine, thanks for the review. However, I got the XD-M Elite 9mm. Their 4 versions- I've supported them enough😅. Then - I got their 3.8 osp 10mm, THEN I got their XD--M Elite 3.8 45 osp. I'm done. But oooooo nice.

I own one of the early XD 5" tactical and its been a great gun and i would be very interested in getting my hands on an Echelon.
Great job on this review! I definitely want to shoot one. I like the 3 different size grips. I don't know how holster companies can keep up with all these gun manufacturers changes. I almost anymore locate my holster before buying my handgun. Anyway, thanks for another awesome review.
Good, Thx... Sootch does some really good reviews
Fired mine today. Great firearm. Tendency to shoot high. Other than that great time and weapon.
If you have the standard “u” sights they were set up for a six o’clock hold if that helps
Springfield Lego Set … Amazing. Cheers 🍻
Best review on this gun I’ve seen!!!🎉
Minor quibble, when you talk about the ambidextrous safety, you were actually talking about the magazine release.
I was this || close from buying a Walther PDP when I heard the news about the Echelon. I'll wait until the model is proven. Thanks sootch.
I still have the original XD, might be time to step up and do optics
If it's a full sized Hellcat, it'll be a winner. Especially with a universal red dot fitting without a bracket..
I love that grip texture on my hellcat, doesn't wiggle loose even with sweat, if you grip it right. This big boy should be even better.
I agree Hellcat has the vey best grip of any gun Ive ever held or have.
Thanks
HS Product. thanks for the review.
I love that optic mounting system only one doing something similar is Shadow systems This should be the new standard optic plates Suck they just make the optic higher
Will a 9mm bull pup be forthcoming? It should be called the “Rear Echelon “!
It's a great firearm sootch. Enjoy your reviews thanks for doing what you do!
That was one of your very best and comprehensive reviews - and I’ve seen all of yours! Excellent review!
Nice video, I always look for your reviews! 👍
Yep same this gun is new but the features on it my SIG M18 mostly has and my older Beretta APX
Great gun Great video 👍👍👍 USA
