So glad you dug this. I hope you give it a try and see what your experience is. The whole point here is to get USING this stuff! Hey, if you haven't already, please jump in to a Free 30 Day Limited access to JazzWire. I would love to work together with you in a more meaningful (and not too expensive) way. With the Free 30 Day Trial, you’ll see what we're doing behind the wall! You'll be inside in about 20 seconds, no credit card required. www.jazzwire.net/free-trial/. These videos are great, but they are a SHADOW compared to the real work and we can do together!

So glad you enjoyed it. I tell you what, if you'd like moments like this three or four times a week, with a FRAMEWORK to work on it all, join me at www.JazzWire.net. This stuff on UA-cam is a faint shadow of what we can get done. Hope to see you there!

Would you identify the "up a minor 3rd" approach", referenced in another video, as side-slipping? Another idea I do sometimes is to play a minor lick over the ii chord and then drop it a 1/2 step over the V chord to get some alterations going. Would that be side-slipping?

    • @JeffAntoniukEducator

I guess I DON'T think of that one as side slipping, in that it gives us a real tangible "substitution" (diminished-ish). Side slipping to me in less functional, and usually associated with 1/2 step root motion. That said, it IS all kind of in the same zone. It's really vernacular at this point!

Helpful. The last few sessions have been with the soprano --- any special reason?

It has been closer to my chair than my tenor, which is a full three feet away. I'm getting older, and conserving energy! 😂

thanks, Jeff. Sounds great! Will be putting to use on tonight's gig. May get some sideways looks from the singer, LOL!

My thoughts are 1) this'll take weeks or months to *really* get sounding right, and 2) that's good, because the singer is going to fire you!! Have fun with it, Richard, and we can work on this inside www.JazzWire.net more deeply. This will be good stuff for us to dig into together in the Red Community!
