Unfortunately I don't speak English, but with the help of Mr. Google translator I can understand his magnificent saxophone classes. I started with the saxophone six months ago, I am 67 years old and thanks to your nice and rigorous lessons I am making progress and I feel happy. Thank you so much.
I am 45 years old and in my fourth month of studying alto saxophone. I have been following this channel since the beginning of my learning and it has been so helpful in orienting me and finding concepts, examples, method, perspectives and a lot of enthusiasm. Quality quality and more quality in your channel, dear Dr. Wallace. Greetings from Italy.
Wonderful, glad it's helpful! Happy practicing my friend :)
Greetings from Poland too 🤓 I am 44, 1.5 year od studying alto saxophone... Great channel!!
@@hellospiders1 Welcome to you as well! So glad you're learning this magnificent instrument. I'm here to help!
Yes boys! Enjoy yourselves
@@drwallysax Right now it would be a real saving grace to have help in finding the Ariadne's thread to get out of the ‘staccato’ maze! I'm sure I've heard my sax secretly giggling at me at certain times … 😅
You were born to be a great teacher. Nobody can make me understand this except you. Love you so much
Just what's needed to up the game a bit! Thanks so much Doctor!
Thanks Dr Wally.
A perfect lesson!
Yet another W by Dr. Wally Wallace. I just started my first semester of college for music ed in September, as well as starting my own yt channel! thanks for all your videos and help!
Great stuff Doc! Another phenomenal resource!!
Thanks for making this easy to understand 🎉
Dr. Wally you have a beautiful tone and sound on alto sax. tenor sax also! Bravo Dr. Wally!
I am reinventing myself with your teaching. Thanks
Some say 'Greatness as a Human characteristic, may be often found particularly in individuals that are prepared to do what others either don't .... or can't ' Many Thanks For Doing Inspirational Content Dr. Wallace .... Alto Sax Student of 6 years : )
Thank you Wally for everything you do for us budding Saxophonist’s.
I played alto from 5th grade through high school and haven't touched it since, now 46 orbits. I was cleaning a friend's tenor for him, and it's the sound I've always wanted to make. I think this is the prime place to start
good luck!
Excellent. Thank you!
Before I tried this lesson, I hadn" t understood intervals or the doo dat sound. It's a matching of sounds with to what one hears. Thanks.
Wonderful, Dr W, thank you
Thanks for watching, Peter! Hope you have a great week (with plenty of practice, of course)!
Again, the best.
Lovely! Thank you!
Fabulous! Thanks Wally
Most welcome, happy practicing my friend :)
Great teaching and great playing! It's amazing what you can do delightfully put into less than 15 minutes. You are a living/breathing minor 7th....distantly romantic! great work my friend!
Thanks my friend, hope you and your Daughter had a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving!
Super Dr. W!
Thank you so much appreciate
This is brilliant, thank you
Go to bed Andrew. (and thanks)
uah! your sound is so warm and beautyful... 🎷✨✨✨🌟✨✨✨🎷
Many thanks. Great lessons
Most welome, Jamie, happy practicing!
Worth mentioning that I slowed this down (using the YT tool top right gear icon) to keep up as I do find you very fast…. but at 0.75 speed and 0.5 I can keep up more easily so better for a beginner.
Thanks for that Bon! I've got such a wide variety of experience levels here - would easier/slower videos be helpful? I'm really curious as to how many beginners are being left behind?
Best Sax teacher EVER!!!🤣🤣
sweet sounds
Ok vou estudar bastante obrigado 👍🎼
This is gold!
You're gold, USM. YOU'RE gold. Go practice.
there will never be another youuuu .... works with that ....😊
Terima kasih, salam dari saxophonis Indonesia
Thanks for your teaching, am kolo MESHACK from Nigeria.
Well, it a marvelous night ……thanks🎶🎵🎷
Great Dr Wally, I would like to enroll in your academy. In the meantime, could I know which mouthpiece and reeds do you use? Thanks and congratulations again for your valuable lessons. Greetings from Italy!
Cool
Looking forward to the "Blues Walk" post!
We've got some cooool Lou Donaldson phrases!
I hope your favorite minor 3rd is Moanin' cause it's fxckin awesomee
Hi I have a question about airflow stopping technique and I’m not sure if my habitual way of doing it is hurting my potential skill.
So I know the standard way to stop the air flow in order to play single notes is to use the tip of the tongue on the reed to create an air plug and stop vibration, and then to continue the flow you just remove the tongue, so the air pressure is never paused.
This approach is used because stopping and starting the air flow from your body is slower and tiring.
However I find that I habitually don’t use the tongue to stop air flow, I instead sort of stop at the throat, kind of like if you’re whistling, if you want to make a quick succession of whistles you don’t use the tongue to cover your mouth hole, you just kind close up at your upper chest or throat and release it to whistle in quick succession.
I’m wondering if this is ok or are there shortcoming compared to stopping flow with the tongue. I find that if I use the tongue then the stop start of notes in quick succession doesn’t sound as clean, whereas if I do it like I whistle then it sounds as clean as a whistle.
Thanks for your great reaching. Do you have transposed PDF for soprano saxhophone?
PS Looking forward to the Lou Donaldson lesson!
I like the idea of practicing these scales with that jazz tune in the background. Where can I find these?
Symphony 9, 2nd Movement, Dvorak
Terrific video Dr Wally! Have you changed your theme tune recording, accompanying the shot of the metronome? Where is that from? So cool!
It is! We recorded the theme for our upcoming album release! The second horn is Christopher Peebles, who works with me here at the Academy!
I can't believe no one said it! The minor Third sound, after the lullaby, is from the nightmare before christmas 💀🖤
Well done! Sally's song! I'm doing an arrangement of that with my band: The Sononauts!
What accompaniment tracks are you using? I love these lessons, they are fantastic! When I'm practicing; and I am, I'd like to use music instead of the metronome.
so you switching to the 6 ? Amazing horn!!
Thank you for this, btw where we can find the background music that is playing in the background ?
It's just a f-minor vamp - you can create one with iReal pro - or loop the first four bars to a minor blues!
Go practice 😎✌🏽
And major?😄🙏👌🤝
Thank you master!🙏
Honestly, I never use or think about major pentatonics! Lemme think on this for a bit...
Some where over the rainbow🎵🎶🎷
Isn't that Sally's song from Nightmare Before Christmas? @7:04
In the UK, for people of a certain age, the minor 7th is the Cadburys Milk Tray interval.
Take a look! ua-cam.com/video/n1pg1zpNgB0/v-deo.html
haaaa!!! That's perfect! Lady loves milk tray!!!!
Dr, Wally, What of the application of this? How will I know what songs, is it just minor blues tunes? How will I recognize them? Or is it just using during momentary chords passing? Thank you.
Honestly how does one add "heat and spice" to altissimo? Mine sounds good, but idk how to do much to it tonally?
Lil' bit of growling, overblowing, and altering the voicing! (in that order)!
@@drwallysax Thank you--especially for the last bit of info!
Where i can get the bacming track?
For West Side Story, I’d suggest the Oscar Peterson trio album.
Oscar Peterson trio doesn't have Paul Desmond playing "Maria." That is the mana of jazz listening.
Why do I feel like you were channeling Bill Murray for the perfect fifth? 😏
Ha! Perhaps not loungy enough - I'll never be that cool ;)
