The normal 3ds i never used 3d. It was too hard to keep it right. With the new one i use it quite a lot. Not always on but for most boss battles, cutscenes and other epic moments.
Reid Follis the comment was in response to Arlo saying how you know a game is good if you want to keep coming back to it... I want to keep playing the demo but I've literally done everything you can do in the demo lol. Can't wait for the official release because I see that game taking every minute of my time up for quite a while.
Zachary Strickler Did you finish all the side quests? I played like 5 hours or a little more, it is excellent, i was hoping that i could find a secret boss battle with both travelers in my party, but i only found items.
REMEMBER. If you love Metroid games and want Nintendo to know you want Metroid back, I suggest buying the game. PLEASE put your AMR2 cancellation grudge behind you. Samus needs you in order to stay alive. I'm not forcing you to buy it, I'm just suggesting.
To a large extent I am fine with AMR2's cancellation because they DID make this game. The only reason they were doing AMR2 was because Nintendo was not making it. So now that Nintendo HAS made it we are all good. At least IMO.
Sadly some people still hate nintendo taking that game down even if Nintendo was making it as well. Although i wish instead of them taking down fangames. Get them on a team and work on something even better
it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth because am2r felt like a real remaster of the OG metroid 2. from the 4 hours of this I played today I had a hard time reminding myself this was metroid 2 considering you can start sequence breaking really early on, and I absolutely love that. gotta agree with arlo on the music part tho, I'm not really impressed on the more atmospheric take they did again like with other m, but I haven't finished it yet so it might get better.
You really need to play _Zero Mission_ sometime, Arlo; the way Samus moves is even more snappy and refined than in this game, it's perfect. But yes, outside of that, the additions of free aim and the use of the touchscreen to quickly swap out abilities on the fly make _Samus Returns's_ controls easily the best in the series (and yes, that includes the _Metroid Prime_ games - even _Corruption)._ And that's just the tip of the iceberg as far as all the exceptional things about this game go, but for brevity's sake, I'll simply say that the only reason I interrupted my seven-hour-straight play session (yeeaah, no worries about the game's longevity - even _if_ you for some reason only planned on playing through it once) was to eat; after I finish my lunch, it's right back to the game for the rest of the night. It's basically all I could have wished for plus more.
I've never played a Metroid game before, but I bought this game at launch so I could support the franchise. And you what? I'm having a blast so far! Really enjoy the game and happy I spent money on it.
Umbreona I think it's probably the setting and atmosphere. It feels very unique from other Nintendo games. I also really like the gameplay. It's kinda like Zelda but set in space and with a gun instead of a sword (and it's a 2D platformer).
this game was litterally the first game i played at my grandfathers house back on the original game boy. kinda makes me emotional! and this is such a worthy remake omg!
In response to the thing about having to sort of neglect running in guns blazing in favor of waiting for the perfect moment to counter: why not both? You can still run in guns blazing, just vaporize everything you can and if an enemy has the chance to counter attack, then you stop firing for only as long as it takes you to perform the counter. The counter to me only supplements my gameplay, it's not an either/or sort of thing. It also helps if you try to run around while typically keeping your beam charged in heavy enemy rooms. :)
Thank you arlo for being so awesome! I just watched a video that I found quite up setting and that really bothered me. But I knew just what to do, tune into the latest arlo video! Even before starting the video just the title alone had me cracking a smile . "first sampressions", just the best. Totally arlo! Thanks for being such a wonder bright spot on UA-cam that I can always tune into.
Nick Dawson I'd be ok with that. She can wear the pants in the relationship, and I'll just be waiting for her to get back from doing ... space stuff... with a homecooked meal.
Well, I checked this game out, and that Counter feature added, is pretty cool. This game really is like a true current gen Metroid game, not saying Prime isn't a true one, I consider the FPS side another style.
I love how the used the old intro for a non-Nintendo Switch video. Such a small but nice detail! As for the game, it looks very fun and I look forward to play it someday!
Picked it up this morning and I'm impressed. I'm really enjoying the controls too, being able to jump and turn into morphball and activate spiderball before hitting the ground is very nice.
My own first impressions: this is one tough game. Seriously, there's about 2 energy tanks for the entire first half from what I can tell! Though one nice feature is that the game doesn't make you revert to your last save if you die; you can just continue right outside of whatever room you died in. So it's not punishingly tough, it's "you have to learn to dodge and counter effectively to survive" tough.
2:30 This was actually also present in previous 2D Metroid games... It just required a specific suit upgrade to use/do so (called the "Power Grip"), unlike in Samus Returns where it's now a fundamental part of her moveset from the very beginning of the game.
Don't worry Arlo, the counter doesn't get in your way, I've played for 6 hours or so, still haven't finished it, got tons of upgrades and can say yes, the counter is very useful but ur main weapon is your cannon. You'll learn to destroy your enemies by shooting and if they get closer and you are in a dangerous situation you'll naturally go with the melee. Be careful tho, nearby enemies can still hurt you when you are shooting. Oh and I discovered something really fun with the ice beam that I noticed in your video that you didn't: if you freeze and instantly do the melee, you'll kill them like you do with missiles. This seems like a OP combo, but you'll eventually notice why it doesn't always work that well. This game is a gem! I'm very happy with how it feels and I really recommend anyone to play it, doesn't seem bad for a first try to the Metroid franchise either.
I've played about 5 hours into the game, and your concern about the counter, is something not to worry about. After a while, more enemies appear close to each other, and unless they charge at you at the same time, the counter isn't a good solution, so you have to go back to the old ways to get them. Plus some enemies can't be countered.
I'm loving it so far as well :Di spent like 20 minutes last night ball-bomb jumping up to that ledge on the left side of Samus' ship, only to find all the areas were blocked off to my current abilities :( had some saddening negative possibility space there. But other than that, it's been amazing.
I played this up to the varia suit and im loving it. The soundtrack is great, lots of callbacks to super metroid in particular, the soundtrack is excellent
Hey Arlo, great video as always :) I'm not sure if this is what toy meant but you seemed to imply that you get sick with a cold/flu quite often. That used to happen to me too but just over a year ago I started eating healthier - basically just more whole plant foods like beans, potatoes, fruits, whole wheat pasta and cooking without oil. Since then I've become far healthier in various ways but one of the most surprising is how much less often I get sick! I just had my first big flu since eating healthy. I used to get several flus every year and be bedridden for the best part of a week each time but this flu had 1 bad day and other than that just a bit of a runny nose and a cough. Give healthy eating a try and see how you feel :) It doesn't really matter which whole plant foods you eat so stuff yourself with your favourites!
One of my favorite things about the Melee counter was that I found out way too late in the game that you can do it almost anytime, like while hanging on ledges or out of the morph ball (provided there's not a ceiling immediately above you) and just how good it felt to grab on a ledge or come out of a tunnel only to have an almost off screen enemy launch at me, and counter them. Also tip for noobs: you can freeze an enemy and melee them to kill them ;)
0:38 You actually aren't in the minority on this one... ESPECIALLY for those with New 3DS' that have the automatic eye-tracking based 3D "sweet spot" adjustment. Is the "I hate the 3D effect!" group (that own 3D capable versions of the system) a large, very significant minority? Yes, most definitely. But they also most definitely aren't the majority of 3DS owners.
I agree with almost everything that you said, Arlo. This game feels great, and even though I can understand your statements about the 3D being a little extreme, I still really like it. It really adds a special sense of scale to the places that you explore. I also can't agree with you more on how this game feels. I'm probably not even going to use the teleport system all that much because of how fun it is to run around the environments. Strider (2014) is another Metroidvania game that does that fast, somewhat acrobatic movement really well, and I love that game for it. Coincidentally, it also features something that's reminiscent of the Spider Ball in this game in that it lets you climb on the walls and ceiling with almost no restriction.
Definitely looking forward to the review, and picking the game up for myself! The mobility changes you mentioned (climbing and spider ball) have sold me on the game and I'm hoping they do more things like that.
I just recently beat the Gamma Metroid, and the theme song for it surprised me it was so damn good... Also, the lower norfair theme is back, so that's cool.
pro tip: you can shatter frozen enemies with your melee counter. its quite useful against multiple enemies and can save you a couple missiles early in the game it also looks damn cool.
About that counter. You could jump over them and turn to shoot them. I also tend to morph ball and roll away while dropping bombs. So I don't really do the melee counter all the time.
Before we start the video, I'm watching an ad for the game before I watch someone play the game. I'm looking for my 3DS so I can buy the game and the first video recommendation is of someone else playing this game ... this is awesome!
I was very worried about the slow animations, but the game feels amazing, despite the bad keyframing. I'm playing on the Metroid 3DS system too, the 3D tracks my eyes and the whole experience is sublime!
I'm confused as to why others say the circle pad isn't good for this game. I've been playing for nearly 4 hours, and it feels great. It's so fluid and natural. For once in a 2D Metroid I'm not restricted to a dumb directional pad. Honestly, the controls are great overall.
Yes, you do have kind of rely overly much on the melee counter in the early game to effectively fight, but as you move into the mid game and get additional beams more combat strategies open up. I'm loving it so far.
I use the 3D effect on most games as well, though only after getting the New 3DS XL. I could never find a position to view the 3D effect on the original 3DS that was comfortable to play in for very long.

I hope you'll get well soon Arlo. Love you ❤

I love the 3D effect too. It never bothered me, and in my opinion, it made every game on the 3DS I played look at least twice as good.
George Marionerd Me too! I feel like the resolution gets scaled just ever so slightly in the 3D mode.
The normal 3ds i never used 3d. It was too hard to keep it right. With the new one i use it quite a lot. Not always on but for most boss battles, cutscenes and other epic moments.

I out 4 hours into the Octopath Teaveler Demo... I had to find ALL the things and find out what the Level cap was for the demo... it's 15
Zachary Strickler wow, you're quite the trooper.

I want to keep playing the demo but I've literally done everything you can do in the demo lol.
Can't wait for the official release because I see that game taking every minute of my time up for quite a while.

I am honestly curious, as I am sure Nintendo would be, what is your favorite part of the game so far? What aspects of it really stand out to you?
HMM Glad you are enjoying a fantastic series.

I suggest that you buy the older games on the eshop if you can't get enough! They're as awesome as the 3ds version!

I think it's probably the setting and atmosphere. It feels very unique from other Nintendo games.

Devilcraft 42 seeing as its the only current gen Metroid out you can't compare it to prime 4

I love the deep 3D, I think it was the best looking 3D I've played on the 3DS. I guess that's why they make it a slider instead of an on/off switch.
