I think Duane and Piotr share a bit of blame on that run and had this been F1 it would of been considered a racing incident as it comes with the territory of such a closely matched pair. But given the nature of this game, someone had to be deemed at fault and I think Piotr was 51% to blame. Every other driver on the grid would have ended up the same as Duane because they know just how good Piotr is and if they don't anticipate him like Duane did they'd have no chance against him.

I disagree about every other driver ending up with the same result. Plenty of other drivers have gotten in the smoke trail in that exact spot and not managed to spin in front of the lead.
Please try and keep akiba in Europe because he has so much potential!! The European drift style and scoring is just so different to Japan! I just feel he needs another season and he could be a little beast

from what is commonly known, the chaser should follow the leader, even if he would go off-track because the leader is a moving clip point, so Duane made a mistake because he was following the qualifying line and he should have been following the leader, Wiecek hit the wall with his back after he released the throttle and blocked the wheels by braking to avoid a collision with Duane, this exact moment clearly visible on the broadcast in 3h48m50s
From what is commonly known, going off track is a 0.. so no, you don't just follow Also, these are 1000hp cars doing 140kph sideways with 200kph wheel speed.. And you want them to follow... You can do that by practicing together and building trust.. but you can't practice against everyone in a comp.. So you have strict lines/zones/clips/acceleration and deceleration zones to make it so the lead driver puts down a chaseable run.. Thats the whole point, to put on a show and that breaks down if you just follow wherever the lead driver goes. Getting lost in the smoke is a mistake.. The question of who's mistake it is comes down to the position of the cars when it happened.. Wiecek was over a meter inside of the zone putting mcKeever in the smoke, Wiecek's fault.. Heinonen was at fault following Dean as Dean was perfectly on the line.. Wiecek wasn't.

An inside line and an outside line/transition are two entirely different things. Following a driver who goes wide is easier to do than following a driver who goes inside. Outside gives you MORE space, inside gives you LESS space. In this case if Duane followed Piotr he wouldn't have even been able to transition, he would've been blocked on the inside.
That rule doesn’t make sense in this specific context and thus it wasn’t followed. Piotr went off line directly after the transition which means you can reasonably conclude he had no chance to adjust his line. When you transition (if you’re following the line of the chase as you should) there’s a brief moment during the transition where you are completely blinded by smoke, because Piotr went inside directly after the transition, that means mckeever was kept in the smoke line. Saying he should’ve adjusted is just completely unrealistic in this specific scenario which is why Piotrs mistake weighed so heavily against him.

Within reason. If you aren't in the zone at all you can't expect the follow driver to expect the lead to be completely in the wrong place. Follow the leader means angle , transition timing essentially.

They're identical, except for the part where Piotr missed that 5th zone, and Duane should mimic Piotr's line, but he went full send and got lost in the smoke thus spun out. In fact, if you look closely, Duane was also very shallow on that zone, and Piotr had no problem following him and even was glued to his door until the very end.
In my opinion Piotr Wiecek would not hit the wall if duane was not sliding back of his car in front of wiecek's hood. Wiecek tried to avoid getting hit, in my opinion it's totally duane's fault. He was chasing, so he sould stay in the line after a lead car, not every lead must be perfect, but this accident was totally caused by duane's mistake. I can't believe this judgement, really it's just sad.

i cant understand why in the drifting the organization install wall every where, 90% of them are very professional driver but hit a wall exactly where they need to find a gravel or grass....spectacular..but is insane... they are no so rich as a F1 driver....
As a Piotr Weicek fan, I understand the judges call. Both drivers were at fault there. Duane should’ve followed Piotr since Piotr is the lead car, but Piotr was also very off line so giving it to him would’ve rewarded him for throwing Duane off. So I understand the judges call. Piotr missed that zone by about 3 feet. If he at least was a little closer say maybe he missed the zone by a couple inches. Then I think that would lean towards Duane’s fault because it’s not as exaggerated an error. But being completely off line threw Duane off and ended up with a collision.

I agree with you, i'm totally disappointment with judge decision and how bad Piotr car was crashed. Duane didn't even turn before last corner, he just lost control and go straight and Piotr try to break but this didn't help.

GET THE GUYS OUT OF THOSE BARRIERS ON LAST CORNER... iam not even mention a crash... but a spoiler like james dean pushed into the wall literally will pull a head out... and then you have adam lz with an E36 in there 😂 Not to mention that in a crash the barrier will still move and possibly hurt them... example imagine a crash at 3:34:18
Our sport had 3 losses of life because people were allowed next to them the barriers were pushed over . Our max speed is 45mph and usually when it happened it was 20 mph or less . It happens way fast … we implemented 5’ rule . At drift speeds , I’d imagine 12’ would be better distance people would need minimal damage.

Judging on the Piotr vs Duane showdown was pretty bad. The lead car is shallow on the OZ zone and the chase car cuts to way to much line for proximity ending up in the wrong part of the track exceeding the lead cars line. It was a simple miscalculation on Duane's part Piotr car was nowhere near where Duane chose to dive in.
Judging is slowly making this event into what drift fans hate about formula drift, the main difference maker now is the commentary that holds it up, however in this stream half of the commentary is cut out for whatever reason. I hope DMEC gets their shit together and makes decisions for the good of the sport and fans. Really wish that the organizer's will see this.
@@PlutoKushChris The judging is fine. Your comprehension of how the sport works needs a bit of adjustment though. If you don't stick to the line and there is an incident, you are going to be found at fault. Thats why qualifying is judged as a chaseable run. It's not just automatic 0s that are taken into account, it's the line as a whole. You can't have close battles with cars this gripped up if people are free to go wherever they want on track. If they did allow it, it would be impossible to have consistently good chase runs as the lead would be free to cut corners and pinch the chaser off as well as smoking them out. What you are asking for doesn't make sense in drifting.

Showdown is actually the best battles. Best of the best are battleing ech other already. Top 32, top16 is just go do your thing clap some noobs and we will see top drivers again in top 8
What is going on with Joshua Reynolds and Yves Meyer?! There 2 cars seems to be undrivable and it's been like that since they debuted the car 2 years ago or more. It makes no sence and I doubt these guys are having fun too in such a poorly setup car
They’ve both been this bad since they debuted like five years ago in the United States. Barely qualified and if they did it was both sheer luck because only 29 drivers showed up. I don’t want to hate but I’ve always thought there needs to be a qualifying standard. You gotta be able to put down a stable consistent run online to have any hopes of being above 80 points. And then that last 20 points comes down to that wow factor and angle the judges always talk about.
Piotr's first semi run was easily a win No way was that a one more time..very debatable on the 2nd decision but can see both sides but shouldn't of been in that 2nd run anyway 👎
Judges are full on making excuses if u sucked into the smoke drive through it Duane was a at fault for spinning and hitting piotr and sending him into the wall if you watch closely Duane looked like he tapped points rear wheel sent Duane into a spin out and causing a collision with piotr this comp levels is tough but make sure if you going to get close but not close enough to hurt you and the opponent you up against watch piotr omt I slow mo and look at his rear how the slightest impact on the rear make his car jump abit just in my opinion and for the judges to think piotr would hit the wall before even before its ridiculous piotr slowed down enough at that wall you could see him go off throttle and pulled the hydro at the right time for him to have enough speed scrubbed off and still have enough speed to carry him around and keeping close to the wall as the judges wanted if Duane had not hit piotr there would be a big window gap between them
Duane's fault 100 %. You cant give the blame to someone just for missing an outer zone. And about the wall, he obviously lifted and handbraked and braked to try and avoid the crash.
You absolutely can be blamed. if you missing that outer zone results in an error for the chase car that can be directly explained by the lead cars error then the lead can 100% be blamed. A mistake in the lead is not just judged based upon the mistake itself but also what position that mistake puts the chase car in and how it effects the chase. It’s the same as if you were to pull handbrake (outside of a deceleration zone) in the lead, if it doesn’t effect the chase car it’s viewed as a minor infraction and you got away with it, however if the chase car hits you directly after the handbrake pull it’s no longer viewed as just a minor infraction.
I see your point and I don't fully disagree. However, I believe that there is a difference between making a mistake as a lead driver like braking or hand braking when you shouldn't or hitting a wall, and when you miss a zone without making any big correction. Yes his line wasn't correct, but it was smooth. Although I agree that we should be very critical of the leads, I think that the chase driver should be able to mimic the line of the leads car even if it's not perfect. In the end a bad lead line should be punished hard when deciding a winner, but I think blaming such a crash on a missed outer zone is too much.
@@Dimitris__09 This section of the track comes up very fast and the massive bump makes things further unpredictable this is why it was really stressed in briefing that the lead car must be on the correct line to make things as predictable as possible for the chase. It matters more in this part of the track than any other. From what i can see duane did everything right and when they transitioned Piotr's car just went forward and Duanes car washed into the zone which is where he predicted Piotr will be. Also another thing to note is that this is a part of the track where you are scrubbing massive amounts of speed so expecting Duane to just randomly find all this grip to go forward is just unrealistic.

To be honest i think Akiba had better run than some of the people in front of him with better scores. I hope he stays in Europe and has more luck in the future he is a good driver and has the potential.

How much slower was piotr on his second lead compared to the first run? Duane had no where to go because piotr was slow and not out to the zone. Hence piotr got to the wall very early and Duane had nowhere to go Piotr at fault, simples. This is not FD

Chase car has to follow the lead car, it is true, Piotr made a mistake missing the zone, but Duane lost in the smoke and made mistakes from there on, not copying the lead car. Just watch in top 32 he does exactly the same mistakes again with Rintanen, in the first run.

Mate the solution to your criticism is DOSS and has been for years, when a computer is scoring on a specific set of data from each run only then will you get technically accurate judging.

Also, these are 1000hp cars doing 140kph sideways with 200kph wheel speed.. And you want them to follow... You can't!!
If you are guessing where they are going to initiate or be on/off power or where on the track they are going to be, it opens it up to far more danger and misuse to put off the chase driver.
Close drift battles only happen because the chase driver is confident they know what the lead driver is going to do.
You can do that by practising together and building trust.. but you can't practice against everyone in a comp.. So you have strict lines/zones/clips/acceleration and deceleration zones to make it, so the lead driver puts down a chaseable run.. Thats the whole point, to put on a show, and that breaks down if you just follow wherever the lead driver goes.
Getting lost in the smoke is a mistake.. The question of who's mistake it is, comes down to the position of the cars when it happened..
Wiecek was over a meter inside of the zone putting mcKeever in the smoke, Wiecek's fault..
(To add. He was actually a whole wheelbase to the inside. And his a90 has a wheelbase of 2.4m. So quite a bit more than 1 metre)
Heinonen was at fault following Dean as Dean was perfectly on the line.. Wiecek wasn't.
(Heinonen's line put himself in the smoke and as a result he spun. Was all on him)
Nope pitor was completely off line so he's at fault. You can't chase If the lead driver is completely off line.

i cant understand why in the drifting the organization install wall every where, 90% of them are very professional driver but hit a wall exactly where they need to find a gravel or grass....spectacular..but is insane... they are no so rich as a F1 driver....
As a Piotr Weicek fan, I understand the judges call. Both drivers were at fault there. Duane should’ve followed Piotr since Piotr is the lead car, but Piotr was also very off line so giving it to him would’ve rewarded him for throwing Duane off.
So I understand the judges call. Piotr missed that zone by about 3 feet. If he at least was a little closer say maybe he missed the zone by a couple inches. Then I think that would lean towards Duane’s fault because it’s not as exaggerated an error. But being completely off line threw Duane off and ended up with a collision.

I agree with you, i'm totally disappointment with judge decision and how bad Piotr car was crashed. Duane didn't even turn before last corner, he just lost control and go straight and Piotr try to break but this didn't help.

Not to mention that in a crash the barrier will still move and possibly hurt them... example imagine a crash at 3:34:18
Our sport had 3 losses of life because people were allowed next to them the barriers were pushed over . Our max speed is 45mph and usually when it happened it was 20 mph or less . It happens way fast … we implemented 5’ rule . At drift speeds , I’d imagine 12’ would be better distance people would need minimal damage.

Judging on the Piotr vs Duane showdown was pretty bad. The lead car is shallow on the OZ zone and the chase car cuts to way to much line for proximity ending up in the wrong part of the track exceeding the lead cars line. It was a simple miscalculation on Duane's part Piotr car was nowhere near where Duane chose to dive in.
Ryusei got robbed, that wagon was in and out of zones or on way less angle than he was and yet because Ryusei missed one zone he scored lower?
He nearly puts 2 tires off in first corner and missed 2 zones. Maybe 70 was the right score but definitely not higher
Missing zones costs alot of points. Far more important to hit all zones than lots of angle
Judging is slowly making this event into what drift fans hate about formula drift, the main difference maker now is the commentary that holds it up, however in this stream half of the commentary is cut out for whatever reason. I hope DMEC gets their shit together and makes decisions for the good of the sport and fans. Really wish that the organizer's will see this.

@@PlutoKushChris The judging is fine. Your comprehension of how the sport works needs a bit of adjustment though.
If you don't stick to the line and there is an incident, you are going to be found at fault. Thats why qualifying is judged as a chaseable run. It's not just automatic 0s that are taken into account, it's the line as a whole.
You can't have close battles with cars this gripped up if people are free to go wherever they want on track. If they did allow it, it would be impossible to have consistently good chase runs as the lead would be free to cut corners and pinch the chaser off as well as smoking them out. What you are asking for doesn't make sense in drifting.

What is going on with Joshua Reynolds and Yves Meyer?! There 2 cars seems to be undrivable and it's been like that since they debuted the car 2 years ago or more. It makes no sence and I doubt these guys are having fun too in such a poorly setup car
They’ve both been this bad since they debuted like five years ago in the United States. Barely qualified and if they did it was both sheer luck because only 29 drivers showed up. I don’t want to hate but I’ve always thought there needs to be a qualifying standard. You gotta be able to put down a stable consistent run online to have any hopes of being above 80 points. And then that last 20 points comes down to that wow factor and angle the judges always talk about.
The video is missing sound all over the place, makes it hard to enjoy.

Judges are full on making excuses if u sucked into the smoke drive through it Duane was a at fault for spinning and hitting piotr and sending him into the wall if you watch closely Duane looked like he tapped points rear wheel sent Duane into a spin out and causing a collision with piotr this comp levels is tough but make sure if you going to get close but not close enough to hurt you and the opponent you up against watch piotr omt I slow mo and look at his rear how the slightest impact on the rear make his car jump abit just in my opinion and for the judges to think piotr would hit the wall before even before its ridiculous piotr slowed down enough at that wall you could see him go off throttle and pulled the hydro at the right time for him to have enough speed scrubbed off and still have enough speed to carry him around and keeping close to the wall as the judges wanted if Duane had not hit piotr there would be a big window gap between them
Duane's fault 100 %. You cant give the blame to someone just for missing an outer zone. And about the wall, he obviously lifted and handbraked and braked to try and avoid the crash.
You absolutely can be blamed. if you missing that outer zone results in an error for the chase car that can be directly explained by the lead cars error then the lead can 100% be blamed. A mistake in the lead is not just judged based upon the mistake itself but also what position that mistake puts the chase car in and how it effects the chase. It’s the same as if you were to pull handbrake (outside of a deceleration zone) in the lead, if it doesn’t effect the chase car it’s viewed as a minor infraction and you got away with it, however if the chase car hits you directly after the handbrake pull it’s no longer viewed as just a minor infraction.
Point is, mistake are not judged linearly. A mistake can take on different meanings depending on what that mistake causes
I see your point and I don't fully disagree. However, I believe that there is a difference between making a mistake as a lead driver like braking or hand braking when you shouldn't or hitting a wall, and when you miss a zone without making any big correction. Yes his line wasn't correct, but it was smooth. Although I agree that we should be very critical of the leads, I think that the chase driver should be able to mimic the line of the leads car even if it's not perfect. In the end a bad lead line should be punished hard when deciding a winner, but I think blaming such a crash on a missed outer zone is too much.
@@Dimitris__09 This section of the track comes up very fast and the massive bump makes things further unpredictable this is why it was really stressed in briefing that the lead car must be on the correct line to make things as predictable as possible for the chase. It matters more in this part of the track than any other. From what i can see duane did everything right and when they transitioned Piotr's car just went forward and Duanes car washed into the zone which is where he predicted Piotr will be. Also another thing to note is that this is a part of the track where you are scrubbing massive amounts of speed so expecting Duane to just randomly find all this grip to go forward is just unrealistic.
@@Dimitris__09 At the end of the day Piotr led Duane into that situation. In order for Duane to have avoided that, he would've had to have been off line before the transition. So really how can you fault Duane?
To be honest i think Akiba had better run than some of the people in front of him with better scores. I hope he stays in Europe and has more luck in the future he is a good driver and has the potential.

Dear judges. You are very lame. You don't respect your own rules. First of all, why was OMT with Piotr and Duane? Second of all, how the hell was Duane's spinout Piotr's mistake? Ok, he made a mistake, he was offline, missing the outer zone, but that is a point deduction, not fault of other's spinning. All again favoring Irish guys. I am not saying that Deane or Duane, or the Shanahans are not top notches, but it is very obvious this shit. I hope the battles will be better judged.

Duane had no where to go because piotr was slow and not out to the zone.

Chase car has to follow the lead car, it is true, Piotr made a mistake missing the zone, but Duane lost in the smoke and made mistakes from there on, not copying the lead car. Just watch in top 32 he does exactly the same mistakes again with Rintanen, in the first run.
