Thank you very much for your video. I occasionally use my Bolt as a camping mobile and I very much appreciate the ability to turn off the auto headlights. Implementing this change will let me turn on the car so I can get heat or AC without lighting up the campground.

Thanks for the comment. Yet another example as to what this mod fixes. I've done some overnight car camping myself, usually while plugged in to a free Level 2 charger. 😎

Same! Must have mod. Even if car off and you open door at night it's turns freaking heads on. I use hack for this. Before opening door you can switch accessory mode on, it will not trigger headlights(only parking lights) but will allow to turn off auto mode.

I do a lot of night driving, and can honestly say that the number of people driving late-model cars in the dark without headlights on is astounding. You can tell they turned off their autolights and mistake like from their DRLs for operating headlights. I prefer automakers making the auto lights come back on by default with each start.

I also see a lot of morons not turning on their lights, because those DRLs fool them into thinking headlights are on. And to make matters worse, instrument clusters are always lighted. Why do they always have to reinvent shit? Flip the switch on to get headlights, tail lights and instrument cluster lights. All this AUTO shit, makes matters worse.

I completely agree. Disabling this feature is dumb.

I hope that doesn’t stop daylight headlights which have saved me from accidents many times! I have been seen and I have seen others at the last second many times! In my Ford Focus Electric I had to run the full headlight all the time, the Bolt being auto saves playing with the switch constantly!

If you need a car to have headlights on in broad day light to see it, are you sure your eyes don't have problems?? No offiense, but those DRL are the most annoying crap they've came up with. THe glare is the worst thing. But, if this was during a gray cloudy day, then a person should have their lights on anyway.

@@bmw803 the problem is that no gray cars use headlights and they look like pavement and I have 20/10 vision and most states require headlights in rain because side windows get covered with rain! There are a thousand reasons for daylight headlights and none for not having them! One death is enough to have the safety! I see people everyday who spot my daylight headlights and jam the brake before pulling out in front of me!

I want to disable my automatic headlights , I only want them on when i'm driving and it's dark outside.
    Good video

Too many people are driving at night clueless that their headlights aren't on. This is why they are automatic headlights.

I checked this out on my Bolt 2020. Yes the switch does not "stay" in the "off" position, but it does function! So, what's the point?

PSA: Before you decide to dig into your control assembly for your lights, if you bought your car in Canada where they mandate DRLs, forcing the knob to the left doesn't do anything. It is all controlled by software. As you may notice in the video, when he flips the knob to the left, the console says Auto light Control Off at 7:12 and when you do that on a car with DRLs programmed into the system, it doesn't matter what you flip the knob to, the lights stay on if you're not in Park.

That's why you get the GM TDS/GDS and turn those stupid DRL completely off.

I'm the rare person that wants the headlights on every time I am driving the car. In the daytime, I manually turn them on to hopefully allow the idiots that want to drive in my lane with oncoming traffic to possibly see me in time to get their stupid butts back into their own lane and avoid killing me. As the rare person that I am, I would have no need for this. Plus, my wife ensures that I have thousands of other chores to do to occupy any free time I might have in the next decade, so this is one thing to take off my list. JK about the wife. She's awesome.

I guess I don't see the big deal about the Auto position unless you have conditions where you want the lights off in the dark while moving. Otherwise if stationary simply turnoff the car. Maybe I'm missing something.

My 2016 Kia Soul EV+ also has an auto mode but at least it can be turned completely off manually. Not sure why GM decided to make it this way unless they want to force safety or something. Truth be told, though, I generally keep mine in auto mode and it doesn't seem to cause any issues: It comes on when it's dark without me even thinking about it and stays on for about 30 seconds after I shut off the car (if it's dark enough to trigger them).
One odd choice that Kia made with all of their Souls (as far as I know) is that there is no way to open the tailgate from inside the vehicle unless you click the button on the key fob, but that only unlocks it, not actually open it. There are no buttons for unlocking that tailgate anywhere inside the vehicle. Heck, even my old 1993 Honda Civic had a trunk release!

Problem for me in my 2020 Bolt is not that the regular headlights does not come on, problem is the high beams. I have Zero control over it. 9/10 times it works fine in auto. But sometimes an approaching car will get blasted with my high beams and theres nothing I can do about it. I cannot turn it off.

Hey, I know you had a crashed fiat 500e a long time ago but maybe you still have a front grille. Would you be willing to sell it?
