I've been eating carnivore for years and feel and look the best ever. Never going back to the standard American diet or plant eating again.
How many years?
Just so you know, nothing lasts forever. I had severe gout and limped on one foot for a year straight. I finally figured out it was the 4 diet sodas I drank everyday and was pain free for 20 yrs after quitting it. Well nowadays as an older man of 54 I can say that carnivore wrecks me and I get bad gout from it. Kidneys decline and the filtering of uric acid goes down with it. Nothing lasts forever IMO.
I am on year 6! Off all 8 medications and a 35 year Degenerative disc Disease is gone and 6 herniated discs are totally healed at 63. Telomere length and other tests done by 2 companies relate to me that I am 51. You don’t lose calcium from the diet from acid! There has never been any science that even hints that an alkaline leaning system is beneficial for anything other than Cancer does not survive as well. You really are an idiot! Who has probably never tried Carnivore. Every Male in my Family Practiced medicine for 30+ years and the doctors and these awful studies prove we have moved decades into the past! Medicine now is a joke and I would never visit a Doctor unless I needed acute care for an injury☮️
@@dealwolfstriked272 Likely lies. I’ve been strict carnivore for 6+ years and have massively over-consumed protein during many of those years & not had any form of gout or kidney problems whatsoever. You’re obviously doing something else alongside it and blaming carnivore in a cowardly or immature fashion.
@@dragonofhatefulretribution9041 harsh....I tell my story in hopes of helping and get called a liar. I tried to help many people with gout over the years and my diet soda thing helped not one of them but I still say it in case there is someone that has same body case as mine. As for protein, yes I have kidney disease and yes I still drink alcohol and yes the alcohol reduction does lessen the gout BUT yes also to protein restriction. You dont have kidney malfunction....yet. All humans run around 50% kidney function by the time they die aka one kidney.
I’m SO grateful to this doctor for his INVALUABLE information and contribution! THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤
I'm very grateful and I appreciate your nuanced position and research a lot, doc! Thank you very much! Greetings from Switzerland.
So adding 130 g of carbs, a day is quite contradictory to the other discussions. If you’re adding in the carbohydrates, then you are no longer burning fat for fuel, and your brain only needs approximately 40 g a day of carbohydrates to function, you can get that from one peach. There is contradictory information in this video, even though there is some good things to take away as well.
We are always burning some fat, adding carbs doesn't prevent fat burning that's a myth. The brain needs 130 grams of glucose per day look it up. There is no contradictory information in this video. What you are saying is just not factual.
@@dr.jamesdinicolantonio2215 if we are adding carbohydrates then the body hunts for that as fuel and will save the fat to the very last.
I need at least 100 grams of carbs from sweet fruit to prevent debilitating cramps and supplementing electrolytes does not help. Cream of tartar worked for cramps in the form of Potassium but eventually I had heart palpitations when sleeping at night and I got kidney stones eventually on the carnivore diet.
The animal based diet with carbs in the form of fruits seem best for me and my gut cannot handle the veggies that would provide the minerals.
You burn fat for fuel by cutting calories and doing basic math, duh. Why would you say carbs stop fat loss? How brainwashed can a person get.
@@murraymcgregor7829the only reason you need the fruit is because you never got your electrolytes correct! All your doing is causing Vitamin C and sugar to hold on to 3 extra water molecules and hold on to all that water.

Loved your book but...
Meat acidifies us? After passing through our 1.5ph stomach acid (bearing in mind ph is logarithmic scale)?
120g protein a day?
Where did you get this "science"?

Only people who haven't formally researched and published on this topic think it's bogus.
If the body can pull calcium from the bones, can it also pull calcium from the artery walls?
I don't think the body has a mechanism or metabolic pathway to do that but maybe I'm wrong.
Check out Vit K2 taken with Vit D 3. 😎
From my understanding of Metabolic types, meat is alkalizing in the body, same as an orange for example. Wouldn't it be better to see the impact of meat on a person by person basis?
The stomach secretions are very acidic. As they move into the small intestine, it is neutralised by secretion of bicarbonate. I am sure the body can adjust how much it secretes appropriately. So i fail to see how any acidic food can cause an issue

What you are not realizing is that when we eat meat, which is high in sulfur containing amino acids, our liver oxidizes those sulfur containing amino acids into sulfuric acid, which acidifies the body. It brings a hydrogen ion load once our liver oxidizes cysteine and methionine increasing the acidity of the body.
It does not. Don’t listen to these Doctors. They all suck. Bart Kay, Ken Berry,
Unfortunately, most research starts out with the premise that plants are our "healthy foods" We don't have a lot of studies that focus on animal protein only diets over long periods of time. Most of the studies that show the deficits when you increase animal protein, have the combination of plants in there as well. Animal protein is demonized as the problem but if we're able to eliminate the plants and focus on a different perspective then we would most likely find more evidence that it is the combination of the plants, and in fact, the PLANTS, that are the problems
What about the people who are taking betaine hcl? Does it affect the acid base balance? Do you recommend to take it or not taking it?
So in short.. you're saying to enjoy a cigar every day. Or did I misunderstand?
Lol
What about high fat moderate protein I.e less than 100g protein?
Is fat a base?
Dr. DiNi You don't need to balance eating animal foods because they are already balanced. You are wrong, just admit it...
Nope they bring an acid load and that acid load should be balanced...I only admit what the science shows.
Are you eating all of the animal? He literally explained why eating only the meat won't cut it.

A question from Australia, so on a carnivore diet i should consume a Sodium bicarbonate plus Potassium bicarbonate supplememt eg capsule form? If so how much do i need to take daily & when? There are not many brands which have both sodium and potassium in tbe came capules
What about using calcium carbonate instead of sodium or potassium bicarbonate?
That would likely work although I haven't studied it so unsure on dosing and how effective it is.
@@dr.jamesdinicolantonio2215 Since watching your first video, I've been tracking my urine pH with a meter. Initially, I was getting values between 5.5 and 6.0, likely from my moderate grain and moderate animal protein diet. I then added calcium carbonate, 150mg (60 mg elemental Ca) four times a day between meals. My diet otherwise was exactly the same. (Right now I'm measuring everything I eat down to the gram.). After adding the CaCO3, my urine ranges from 6.5 to 7.0. This was a more dramatic effect than I was expecting. I also feel much better. Muscle cramps and heaviness in my legs have disappeared. But oranges, have a very high acid balance, and if you’re trying to offset the acid balance of the protein, why would you choose an orange?
Despite their acidic taste, citrus fruits like oranges actually have an alkalizing effect on the body once they’ve been digested and absorbed. So, despite their initial sourness, oranges contribute to an alkaline environment within your system.
@@tanyasydney2235 beat me to it.
@@tanyasydney2235 that is incorrect. Oranges. Have an acid number of approximately 3 to 4.

I don't know if you are a believer in the whole oxalate overload theory, whereby oxalates supposedly accumulate in the body, even in the face of apparently normal renal function, but I suspect your ideas regarding acid/base are a very important part of how this might happen in the first place, and perhaps even more crucial as to how one might recover from oxalate overload once it has happened. Oxalate crystalizes at pHs below 7.0. So, an acidic diet will make one prone to oxalate renal stones. This is pretty well established. But the other thing to consider is the interstitial fluid. This also becomes acidic on an acidic diet. Are acidic tissues more prone to accumulate dietary oxalate? Might this explain why a lot of vegans who eat very alkaline diets seem immune to oxalates, but dum-dum's like me who ate enormous amounts of high-oxalate almonds in combination with a high meat diet ended up running into major problems? Seems to me fertile ground for research.
And yet people like Stench Roideyfraud were put in hospital with intense damage to his kidneys but claim it had nothing to do with his vegan diet..
Would be nice if you and dr saladino had a discussion about this.
We actually did have a discussion on a podcast and I do think I brought this topic up a bit.
Yup. They did
So basically we have come full circle. Being vegan is not the answer, being carnivore is not the answer, a balanced diet is the answer. It's funny how humans think they know more than God. God gave us plants/fruits and animals to eat. He gave us an abundance of VARIETY. When we start depriving ourselves of variety is when the problems start popping up. Why do humans have to complicate simple matters? Life isn't supposed to be so fast hard ans complicated. Keep it simple. Live better.
❤❤❤❤
I agree, but I think going around the circle has helped us quantify the balance, ie how much protein, how much plant to balance meat, etc.
Doc, my gout is out of control and I have to come off of carnivore and find it doesn't help. What I do find though (just adding this in to confuse or maybe help someone) is that certain foods I feel ok and certain foods I feel bad on carnivore. Chicken for example I feel good on and same with eggs but if I try to follow the gurus and eat only red meat I feel awful and get a massive gout attack.
For years and years I was using baking soda as a way to kinda help with the acidity of my PH. What is crazy is my gout was severe 30 yrs ago and I found out it was the diet sodas I was drinking. I limped on one foot for a full year and one day dropped the diet soda and 2 days later was pain free and this lasted 20yrs. Past 10 yrs it rears its head here with the toe tingle here and there but now its back full force and spread into ankles and knee.
I am eating a zero purine diet or as low as possible this week as its something I never tried so we shall see. Pasta/eggs and some cashew nuts and tons of milk, like a gallon aday. All those foods are said to have 0 purines which I find kinda amazing. Except for the cashews but they are low.
Carnivore and Keto doesn’t work long term for most people, for some sure. But the insulin spike helps the kidneys hold on to electrolytes, so you aren’t having to pound down electrolytes all day that your kidneys aren’t even holding on to because there’s no insulin there or very little. The insulin spike doesn’t have to be massive either, add in some honey with an apple or 2, or watermelon, banana etc..
So you talk a lot about human clinical trials, maybe go ahead and cite some evidence… because when effects on bone health are reviewed in the human trial literature it literally says the opposite.
Acid diet (high-meat protein) effects on calcium metabolism and bone health
Jay J Cao et al.
Purpose of review: Update recent advancements regarding the effect of high-animal protein intakes on calcium utilization and bone health.
Recent findings: Increased potential renal acid load resulting from a high protein (intake above the current Recommended Dietary Allowance of 0.8 g protein/kg body weight) intake has been closely associated with increased urinary calcium excretion. However, recent findings do not support the assumption that bone is lost to provide the extra calcium found in urine. Neither whole body calcium balance is, nor are bone status indicators, negatively affected by the increased acid load. Contrary to the supposed detrimental effect of protein, the majority of epidemiological studies have shown that long-term high-protein intake increases bone mineral density and reduces bone fracture incidence. The beneficial effects of protein such as increasing intestinal calcium absorption and circulating IGF-I whereas lowering serum parathyroid hormone sufficiently offset any negative effects of the acid load of protein on bone health.
Summary: On the basis of recent findings, consuming protein (including that from meat) higher than current Recommended Dietary Allowance for protein is beneficial to calcium utilization and bone health, especially in the elderly.
Another more recent meta analysis of 11 systematic reviews says the same, high protein has a positive effect on bone heath:
Protein intake and bone health: an umbrella review of systematic reviews for the evidence-based guideline of the German Nutrition Society
Published: 01 May 2023
Volume 34, pages 1335-1353, (2023)
Abstract
This umbrella review aimed at assessing whether a protein intake exceeding the current recommendation for younger (0.8 g/kg body weight [BW]/day) and older (1.0 g/kg BW/day) adults affects bone mineral density and fracture risk. Moreover, the effect of animal or plant protein was evaluated. A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews for systematic reviews (SRs) with or without meta-analysis of prospective studies published between 11/2008 and 08/2021. Methodological quality, outcome-specific certainty of evidence, and overall certainty of evidence of the retrieved SRs were assessed using established tools and predefined criteria. Eleven SRs of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and/or cohort studies were included. In SRs of cohort studies and RCTs, protein intake/kg BW/day ranged between 0.21-0.95 g (low intake) and > 1.24 g (high intake), respectively, and between 0.67-1.1 g (control groups) and 1.01-1.69 g (intervention groups), respectively. The vast majority of outcome-specific certainty of evidence was rated “low” or “very low.” The overall certainty of evidence for an association (cohort studies) or effect (RCTs) of total, animal or plant protein intake on each of the investigated outcomes was rated “insufficient,” with the exception of possible evidence for a reduced hip fracture risk by high vs. low protein intake. Since protein intakes in low/control and high/intervention groups were very heterogeneous and with low certainty of evidence, it remains unclear whether a dose above the current recommendation or type of protein intake (animal or plant protein) affects bone health overall. However, there is possible evidence for reduced hip fracture risk with high versus low protein intake.
Yes high protein is good for bone health, we need protein, but we also want to offset the acid load.
