Always great watching someone work with raw leaf , to me it's better to let others prepare and blend it. So much work and time involved. Enjoyed

My favorite Black Cavendish is Vaginia Gold because it's easy to dry out and the flavor is smooth and tasty sweet. The retrohale is creamy with a strong vanilla note. And the price is right. ❤🎉

Thanks for sharing, hope to see more from you! I just made some Brown Cavendish in a pot with a colander with some Burley, was aiming for black Cavendish but after 18 hours of steaming I settled for Brown Cavendish. Will give a pressure cooker a try in the future to see if I can get that Black Cavendish!

I have had success also making cavebdish in the jam jars, just put a shot or two of whiskey in the jar with the baccy; seal and cook for 5 hours straight in the pressure cooker! Good luck and thanks for watching! Simon

Nice work! I've done local molasses with local vanilla spiced overproof rum as the dilutant, as opposed to water to case, and even added my own sarsaparilla tincture to some dark tobaccos, works well i find, but some people seem to find alcoholic beverage casings highly objectionable. Love the process of refining flavours and ideas, necessitating much sampling haha

I have made since this video some cavendish by putting the tobacco into sealed jars with some rum, then cooking the jars for a few hours so the cavendish steams in rum vapour. Worked nicely!

Might have to get the pressure cooker out! Quite hard to source leaves in the U.K. These are all good things to know how to do mate.

    Hello from Florida, USA.
I'm so very interested in your technique and have questions.
I'm very handy with a pressure cooker. I use it for making many different foods and canning. What I love about the pressure cooker is that it speeds up the process of cooking. I'm planning on planting 100 tobacco plants in the spring for the first time and I've done a lot of research online on growing, curing and fermenting tobacco. My ultimate goal is to roll cigars. Here's what I'm wondering:
    1) Will pressure cooking dried tobacco leaves speed up the process of sweating the ammonia out of the leaves, basically turning a two month fermenting process into a few hours of pressure cooking?
    2) What is the condition of the leaves after pressure cooking them? I've cooked pork ribs in a pressure cooker for a little too long and the bones were soft. Will the leaves get weak and unusable for binders and wrappers?
    3) I'll probably have more questions the more I think about this 😁.
    Thank you.

hi, thanks for watching! The leaves stuffed into jars and cooked come out with as much structural integrity as they were before the process. For sure the ammonia is lost a great to a degree, however any enzymes etc that are responsible for the aging process will also be killed. When I make a pipe blend I always add a sprinkle of unprocessed raw leaf. This is to re-seed the enzymes etc so that they can repopulate the blend and continue their purpose. The process of stoving is a lot more evident with virginias, they come out a lovely orange colour and haver that VG taste. You will still feel the immaturity of the leaves in the mouth though. I smoked some 6 month old stuff yesterday as a test and it has improved considerably, age is something which can not be cheated I guess! Happy experimenting!

@@ariegepipesmoker897 Thanks for the reply. I'm amazed the the leaves keep their integrity after being pressure cooked.
I just might test it on a small batch if I have a successful harvest.

@@petefranklin5614 It is because they are in sealed jars so no steam gets into contact with the leaf, only constant temperature. The leaves dedicated to cavendish are exposed to steam and therefore do become a bit of a soggy mess to unravel and whilst they are wet are indeed fragile. However when dried are comparable to any other leaf. I would recommend buying some whole leaf online to experiment with so when your crop comes in you have a bit of experience and working knowledge!

I am thinking about how I could do this! I burn wood 24/7 for 6 months of the year so need to figure out how to "cold smoke" the baccy, and also if the wood I use would be beneficial flavour wise. Still; got a few months to think about it!!!

Hi do you put water on the pressure cooker before you put the jar filled with leaves?

Are the jam jars sealed ?
Or do you have them vented for steam or are they steaming in their own juices ?
    Thanks :)

    • @ariegepipesmoker897

They are indeed sealed, this way the leaves retain their original moisture content. When I get some more leaves in I intend to make an updated video, I have subsequently discovered that if you stuff the jars full of bright leaf VG and add a shot or two of liquor to the jar before sealing you can "cook" black cavendish inside jars. It tastes great and is a cleaner process when it comes to separating the leaves.
