There's so much rich history in tobacco..It would be a terrible shame if any of it gets forgotten

Not just pipe smokers, smokeless tobacco users enjoy twist too. King B twist is good. I live in Appalachia and the old timers would make twist and chew it, then sit it on the mantle and let it dry to smoke in their pipe later lol

This is probably the most informative video available on the subject and not a word spoken. Well done. What's the band's name?

Didn't they use hemp twine to help twist around and tighten the rope back in the day? I've seen it in a lot of old pictures.

Im growing some Hopi and Perique tabacco up in Michigan i wanna make a Rope chew outta it with boiled down apple cider or peach juice then twist it. I have smoked a corn cob pipe though i dont smoke my tabacco anymore i might try my own. I was wondering
How would you suggest making a good fruity sweet chew? Should i Fire cure/ hardwood smoke my tabbaco a bit prior to sugaring or no? Do you then compress that rope and age it or soak it in anything or what? My Dad grows tabbaco and he was saying they compress it and ferment it to release ammonia in it or somthing to make it smoother. Any tips would be appreciated. Im a chewer but I'll take tips on making pipe tabacco too.

I think that twist are always meant to be chewed. Although I might be wrong. I'm not a smoker, I use snuff.

+lone wolf Yeah i suppose you could do that too. The way this tobacco looks, I'd say that's probably what they're doing with it. When you're making chewing tobacco, you generally flavor it with molasses and it didn't look like they had done that in this video.

You can chew it, or smoke it. I live in the South. The tobacco store up the street from me sells sweetened and unsweetened twist. I've smoked and chewed the same sweet twist. I prefer to smoke it, rather than chew it. It has a great sweet earthy flavor that you can't get from most pipe tobacco. I don't smoke it on a regular basis, but it is fun to run a bowl through a pipe once in a while.

You can smoke or chew twist, though they make different brands for each method. I know King B twist is great chewing tobacco, it’s a sour chew but very good.
