That was good. Can't wait to do it myself. Hope the wife doesn't mind the mess on the floor when I've when I've turned my crop into blood soaked compost. It's a Gift I have. Regards all
excellent video! I really appreciate your voice and tempo, so just do what you do man. May you and yours stay healthy and happy. All the best for your family.
Here in Kentucky, you can find old plug cutters in just about every antique shop around. They're not going to offer the precision thickness adjustment of the meat cutter, but they make up for it in sheer coolness.
Excelente trabajo me encanto!. Una pregunta, porque sale tan humedo si no tuvo una cocción previa en agua o algún licor no hace falta? Solo con apretar el tabaco se hace solo el cake ? Gran abrazo saludos! Desde Argentina
How does the tobacco not grow mold in that warm and humid condition? Is it about the pressure? I once left my leaves in medium case and they started to grow visible mold in 3 days.
Brilliant!!! Do you do anything to the anything to the raw leaf before hand, case it in anyway with a sugar solution to modify Ph... or is just raw leaf and water???
These look great! I've been pressing ribbons tobacco in my noodle press and have begun wondering if I could make flakes, now I know I can if I take the right steps!
Awesome! I bet the heat helps tremendously! Im in Delaware and highs are in the 50s. I packed mine up and pressed with a bottle jack under a beam. Its overkill but its what i had. I was wondering about the foil. That's an awesome idea. I flipped mine and put back under the press. I should have wrapped in foil. I have made a few different presses and as soon as i get the dewalt clamp (mine didn't fit in the press) this one has to be the best. Its just a perfect size and those slices look amazing! I have to look into one of those!
@@briarbrethren the bottle jack isnt working out too well. It was hard to keep it even and it pressed one side more than the other. Its back in under a different jack. It might need all 4 side with this method. I am going to invest in a nice clamp and maybe one i can fit in my kiln. Someone said when they make cakes in a noodle press they microwave tobacco for 30 seconds to get it steamy and the cakes hold better. Maybe i can do that with the plug if its not warm enough to adhere here in De
@@andrewnelms236 I have never tried microwaving it. But I do bring the leaves to fairly high case before pressing. Also, I find that if I press overnight at full power with the Dewalt, I have few issues with the lamination. In the video, I actually only did a full pressure press for a few hours, which is why there was some lamination.
I've been following your videos on the topic for a while and I want to do something similar, but with a cake. Would you say that this type of a press and process would work for making a cake from ribbon tobacco?
Yep. In fact, I did so today. You just lay the press on its back and put the tobacco between the two removable wood blocks. if it is a small amount, I put the tobacco inside of a Ziploc bag before pressing. That spares you from having to scrape tobacco off of the wood blocks.
I know you said you're not bothered about the rough edge at the bottom, but have you thought of using something like a sacrificial rolled up newspaper on the bottom when you slice the flakes? It may also help with stopping the delamination. Awesome video. I really appreciate you going through it like this.
What’s this for? Chewing? But then you talked about lighting it. It’s beautiful though. I just harvested my first leaves from my garden and was trying to figure the best way to cure them for my area.
At some point, I may need some taste testers. Personally, I can say that I like this a whole lot more than, say, Peterson perfect plug or Dunhill flake.
the clamp for pressing is inconvenient; it must be constantly pressed. Just put the form on some stable weight and the result will be much cooler. Tested on "sausages"
Yes you need a good sense of things when it comes to tobacc I age and cure at 70% stacked and never had a problem however I de-spine my leaves and air dry them mostly first 🚬🚬🤙🤙
would you sell some?? I make fragrance's and have the ability to process raw materials, I would be interested in knowing the sent profile you are talking about
Awesome vid my friend I've experimented with whole leaf tobacco before, I'll definitely give this a try!
Great video, I think your cadence is perfect for a fellow pipe smoker to listen to
Well, ain't that just bloody tremendous. Happy days, pal.
Thanks!
Of all the home production videos I've seen, yours look so much more like a blending houses flakes than anything out there. Awesome!
Congrats on the new baby, hope everyone is well for the holidays. Great video and thanks for sharing
Thanks for taking time to comment. I’m glad that you found it helpful!
Man that looks like the worlds best brownie! Great explainer video thank you for that.

I wonder how well a Mandolin would do at slicing flakes from a plug...
When your done, is this for chewing or smoking.
Awesome job brother I would love to try it! Thanks for sharing!🙏🙏🙏
Can you link your slicer on here? Im very intrigued 👀
Man, this is very inspiring. Great info and instruction! Thanks man. I feel like I can tackle this now.
Thats really cool. I wonder if you could stand up the block of tobacco and get a cleaner cut.
Well you just inspired my next dive deeper into DIY. Thank you for sharing this!!

This is amazing and kinda reminds me of one my favorites Jackknife Plug.
Where can I buy leaf tobacco. I live in Arizona.

I never thought of using a bottle jack but that makes a lot of sense. Feel free to check back in and let me know how your first round went.

Hello, have you ever tried doing something along the lines of a crumble kake?
I have. My press design works well for that, too. I just prefer traditional flake.
amazing. looks delicious

How does the flake smoke? Can you compare it to a commercial pipe weed?
Cheers

Where did you source your tobacco leaf from?

A place online called whole leaf tobacco
How and why do you choose which leaves?

what does the spray contain? thanks

Just water.
any other sort of wrap instead of aluminium would be better, apart from that amazing video and technique, tnks for sharing it!!
You are in Arizona, that is probably why you haven't had an issue with molding.
Buddy had sparks coming off those skins ⚡️
