And then you have women, like me, who have crushed on her since the very first time I heard that special voice. It's 2024, and nothing has changed either.
I could listen to her in conversation FOREVER! So warm , authentic, and natural. Not pretentious in any way. It’s sad that she cannot sing now, but the world will be forever fortunate that her recordings will go on forever. ❤️
Linda Ronstadt is intelligent, honest and humble. It was so refreshing to stumble back in time to this interview today. What a talented and beautiful woman.
Back in the Peace Love Dope days. Cocaine was the drug of choice. Makes for shorter, faster interviews. We are all just Prisoners of our own device. Linda had a quite eventful life. God bless her.
OMG you are so correct. Fifty years ago, and had I known it would never get better than this, except for Bruce and U2, I would have cherished the moment.
I cherished then and I think even more now. With all the changes there will never be an era of creative raw talent like we had. That's why everywhere I go I hear my. Music. In grocery store, commercials offices radio, etc. This was all so creative back then. Instruments, composing, playing, singing, real lyrics that talk about life and time's. My opinion the greatest music era ever!!!!! 👍🎸🎹☮️✌️🎶
I never realized how intelligent and articulate she could be. Wish the media would have focused more on this. She really earned her place in music history.
@William Murray Absolutely no one agrees with your trashy assessment of the great and beautiful Linda. One of those shallow Hal type guys who bases their opinion of women on their looks. An absolute pig of a man
My father poured concrete at Linda's Malibu residence in the 70's. She was kind enough to autograph and personalize two copies of her new album and sent them with him for my brother and I. I still love that album and she is a life affirming, wonderful soul. Thank you Linda.
And she’s a life-long reader! Reads long and challenging fiction & nonfiction books and is able to discuss the intelligently with ppl at length, according to an interviewer with the New Yorker who discussed with LR about life outside of performing music.
What an absolute delight listening to her...Instead of "me me me", she instead talks about her group and all of her peers and the music scene in general. A true musician and one of the greatest.
This may be the finest interview of a singer I have ever seen. Unvarnished and pure. Linda is responsible for bringing so many loose ends together. She made Rock history happen. A true talent and talent magnet...
I watched her doc and honours and I wasn't aware of all the genres she covered, including opera and singing in Spansh. Many great singers (eg. Dolly Parton) said they could not do what Linda could do with her voice.
She really is like the girl next door! Humble, but confident, innocent yet wise. Even from this early interview, you can tell that she's a go-getter and makes things happen. You have become a legend that will live on LONG after you eventually pass away! Like when you decided to sing all your dad's spanish songs, that record became the all-time best selling Spanish record, a record that still stands today! You're legacy will live forever!
Thank you Linda Ronstadt for your Beautiful music. I have been fortunate to listen to your many talented songs over the years. You're truly a gifted artist.💕🎼🎼🎼🎸🎶🎶🎶
An iconic, talented, humble, beautiful, intelligent angel that our generation was so fortunate to have as we moved through the milestones of our lives. How lucky were we? There are no Linda Ronstadt artists in this era sad to say. She was head and shoulders above most of the vocalists of the last 60 years. So glad she has finally received the much deserved AWARDS and HONORS for her numerous lifetime achievements. THANK YOU LINDA. . .Well done!!!
Shes good-one of my first memories is singing " No good" back in the day. You might like Weyes Blood. Shes great kind of similar to the greats of your era.
Her accent/twang sounded like that of a late teen from a no-budget movie in the late '60s/early '70s. I can't place it geographically so much as it maybe was what a young person's accent morphed into once they moved to LA.
So clear from this interview why she was able to branch out into so many musical styles: all she cared about was making great music. She's not crafting a persona to sell records or be famous. And her name-dropping has nothing to do with impressing anyone or "stardom" -- it's just facts about people who played music that she enjoyed and enjoyed making music with! So knowledgeable about the connections with people. It breaks my heart to hear that the Eagles were so happy singing together in their early days, given what happened later. She (and they) made some of my favorite music.
Linda became a star because of her inner beauty. Sure, she is a beautiful woman but what is even more appealing is her inner self which you can just tell she is a good soul. Bless you, Linda.

Nothing in anything she said even hinted at ego or a desire for fame. I really just got the sense of someone who was on a journey and wanted to perform and create music and collaborate with others . It just feels like that spirit doesn't exist in that industry anymore.
In 1971 at Disneyland Gradnight, we rested at a small empty arena .. Then Linda Rhonstadt, a few yards in front, started to sing... And I think I'll remember that night for a long long time.
This wonderful testament to one of the most stupendous vocal talents of the 20th century reflects the confident and relaxed, self-assured conversation of a young lady who was completely comfortable as a person and as a musician. She compliments the fellow singers and musicians of her day in such a generous spirit of admiration and gratitude for their talents. As a former road musician I can vouch for how truly rare and beautiful this quality is in a great artist. Linda Ronstadt's range of expression and ability to command all musical genres with total ease IMHO is unmatched and has never been surpassed in popular music. In short I love the girl and am sooo grateful for this wonderful interview!
This is such a great interview both from the interviewer's and from Linda's perspective. The interviewer didn't try to dominate, or advertise his intelligence. He asked good questions and stayed out of the way, as it should be. Meanwhile, Linda was her stream-of-consciousness authentic self, which is so rare for people in the public eye. And she largely retained that approach in later interviews, even as she aged and could have been jaded by cynicism or self-importance. Such formative, compelling stories!
An excellent interview! An interviewer who is respectful and informed, asks clear, intelligent, relevant questions without drawing unnecessary attention to himself and then lets the other person speak at length and without interruption; interviewing a person who is articulate, well-spoken, who cares about what she's saying, and is an overall good talker. I've done work as an interviewer for research projects, not quite the same as this kind of interviewing, but I can say from a professional standpoint that Bob Harris and Linda Ronstadt were an ideal combination of interviewer and respondent. This video is interesting not only for what Linda Ronstadt said but for how the interview was done.
Andrew Brendan - I critique interviews for a living, personal enjoyment, sport, and a divine hatred for idiots, assholes, and mediocrity. The proof is in the pudding. As a result, it is virtually impossible to find a flaw in either the interviewer, his technique, or style. It obviously was not off-putting in any way to Linda and as a result her natural openness was intoxicating. To call call out flaws in this interview would be like shaming the height of a winning Pitcher's sox after he threw a No-Hit, Shut-Out.
Bob Harris was always that way, he comes across as a music fan who is lucky enough to get to do TV shows about the music he loves (The Old Grey Whistle Test at that time).
She is so excited about music. Her mind just goes off. She feels very relaxed with this guy. She has always been respectful to the guys in her band and that they are very good. It's great to listen to .
In December 1974 Linda performed at my University. She did her fan favorites and also did many of the songs from the 'Heart Like a Wheel' album, which had just been released. It was a sortof intimate setting with many of us sitting on a tarp laid over a hardwood basketball floor. I managed to sit right in front of the stage in the approximate middle with mostly young ladies around me. This meant that Linda was right in front of me and some of the stage light bled over to where a few of us were sitting. She was very nervous; this was one of the first times she had performed some of these songs live. Andrew Gold was there and helped her a bit with her nerves. But the main thing she did on the ballads was to stand behind the microphone stand, not moving, and look right at me as she sang. She looked exactly like she does here, even hair length. I defy anyone to have Linda Ronstadt in 1974 sing love songs right at you and not melt. It was a double bill; the opening act was The Earl Scruggs Revue with a completely toasted Earl Scruggs. Even so it was one of my best concert nights ever. I went to many of her concerts after that, but she was a star then and I couldn't get as close. I am beyond sad that she can no longer sing.
I read her memoir, and not only is she so talented, but she truly is a professional. She was somewhat harsh on herself and her talent. But I think she's perfect, and I love her!!
Just watched the Linda Ronstadt documentary "Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice" and my heart is broken--I hadn't realized she was suffering from Parkinson's Disease and that it essentially killed her singing voice. I was a teenager in the 70s and (like everyone else) loved Ronstadt--her wide-eyed beauty, her easygoing, girl next door friendliness--this interview seems characteristic of how open and unassuming she was--and most especially that amazing instrument that was her singing voice. Linda was a brave and ambitious artist who really could do anything. What I wouldn't give for a time machine for this wonderful lady. (And for myself. *sigh*)
Its really great listening to her talk about knowing Glenn Frey and Don Henley before they made their mark with the Eagles. She's a sweetheart and seems very humble.
I agree 100 per cent ! That's the feeling I got when I read her autobiography a few years ago. She hasn't done many interviews over the years, but always comes across as smart & funny but also down to earth, sweet & humble !
Everyone who hears her sing falls in love with her. I loved her in those early days, especially when Different Drum (SUCH a great song) was on the radio every half hour. Great memories! Plus, she's so cute and charismatic in this interview. Also I loved Jackson back then (still do) in the early days in L.A. where I lived.
She's such a winsome, humble person thatvyou kust don't emcounter these days. Immensely powerful yet sensitive voice, bamd what a beautiful woman. She's given us so much hreat music. I can only imagine how much more she wouldve given us if she hadnt had uad that terribly cruel disability. Im literally watching herv"Old grey Whistle Test" gig on my night shift tonight.
A class act from the best age of music - long before MTV and auto-tune. Back then the artists had to be supremely talented and still they were so humble. Far cry from today....
No doubt. It's really unfair to call most of pop music today "artistry", because it isn't. It's gratuitous sexuality meant to pander to the lowest, base places of the human psyche. It's depressing. On the bright side there are a lot of people still making amazing music, you just have to search them out, they're there, just not in plain view. This undoubtedly says something about the culture we're becoming.
@@kgbeezr75 Without getting into a bunch of names, some of those performers are actually very good to great singers, but are very good at "singing" and performing the modern junk that sells and makes them money. Like you said, that says something about the culture.
@@Beatle849 Agreed. I go long periods of time without any exposure to modern pop music outside of stores/restaurants (and I usually tune it out), but I just got back from a road trip where I had to listen to pop radio for the entire trek....all I can say is that i'm taken aback by just how stunningly awful it is. Some talented vocalists for sure, but the "music" is little more than the same couple notes over the same synthesized pounding, with "lyrics" so vacuous and vapid that I can't help walking away feeling some degree of disdain for the people who pour their money into that machine, keeping it going. I don't begrudge anyone a living, or even affluence, but it's disappointing to see the people who pour themselves into their music struggling now to eek out a living while those who skate by with looks and a manufactured persona walk away with all the cash and fame.
I can't keep up with what's been going on I guess my heart just must be slowing down Among these human beings, in their designer jeans Am I the only one who hears the screams And the strangled cries of Lawyers in Love....
She is wonderful. I always liked her music, but within the past couple of years, I discovered I actually love it and in all probability, her. Obviously not physically as I don't know her, but she comes across as someone who you could always depend on and if she could help in any way, she would.
What a treat this clip is. Just wanted to watch a snippet but her genuineness pulled me in all the way. Just a regular down to earth chick with a singular voice that took the world by storm 🔥
She still has this amazing personality. Not just addictive to listen to musically but also her story telling and down to earth genuine realness is appealing. Her tales of the Troubadour are as legendary as the club.
You would never know such a strong, powerful singing voice comes out of the same voice box as her speaking voice. 🙂 She’s her loveliest at this time of her life.
Honored to say I saw her in person in San Diego 76/77! Will hold her in my heart for the songs and memories she’s given me. Just driving home today I played her greatest hits album and blown away by her strength, sound, tone of her voice. I wept when my favorite drummer Neil Peart died. When she passes, it won’t be pretty.
Low key, soft spoken interviewer, and not a glory grabber. Great job there. I haven't seen any interviews of Miss Linda, that I remember, until watching this and a couple of others. She comes across, strongly, as being as genuine as a summer breeze, unpretentious and down to earth. She reminds me of my late wife, in that way.
She is so real, that's one of the things I've always loved about Linda. The faces, the way she pulls on her hair, the way she dosen't like to listen to herself!? The voice of a generation! Always a joy to listen to! Thank you Linda, for hours upon hours of sheer pleasure!
I've had a crush on her since the early 70s. If I had been 5 years older, I would have skipped college and gone searching for her before Jerry Brown nabbed her.
I had a huge cardboard poster of her in a satin jacket and satin shorts wearing roller skates in my bands practice room back in the 70s and 80s. What an inspiration..
She is very adorable, fresh, humble, honest & gorgeous! I've just watched her documentary movie called Sound of my voice and I am in total awe of her. She is my new female singer crush. What a fabulous voice & incredible range. Absolutely love love love her!!
GREAT interview Linda Ronstadt your Awesome! From one of your local fans since 1970s!! Thanks to you tube I am to write a comment about you! As noted above! Ronstadt bus center named after your family name! So we all know your famous! Well those who listen to your music!! 😁🌵🌅❤️🎼🎶🎵🎶
Pipes of glory. Her singing voice, now lost, was something very special. Her heart, mind and vibe remain fascinating. The excellent recent documentary shows only the tip of her musical mountain. Oh yeah she was hardcore adorable as well.
She's beautiful, humble, insightful, and i could listen to her talk about what she was talking about for a lot longer. Also the interviewer was great in that he asked good questions and then was quiet. It seems a lot of interviewers in modern times like to hear themselves too much.
So refreshing to go back in time and listen to this type of "honest little conversation" interview versus today's so-called stars' calculated and overly rehearsed/staged commercial product style interviews. Love that she's critical of herself and not pulling the "I'm the greatest" crap that we hear way too much from today's MUCH less talented artists.
Great interview. Linda is lovely and Bob Harris' (BBC Old Grey Whistle Test) interview technique really works because he is knowledgeable and genuinely interested in his subject. I’m so pleased I stumbled onto this. Thanks for posting it.
I had the good fortune to do a phone interview with Linda several years ago and she couldn't have been nicer or more friendly--it was slated to run for 15min and after 45minutes I had to end it...put simply, she is exactly who you would want her to be..in addition to having had one of the greatest voices in pop music.
Fascinating creature with a glorious rare set of pipes. Saw her recently- September 2018 - at a rare speaking engagement. Linda looked lovely, adorable, tiny, slower but those eyes and her heart were glowing. Wickedly funny, eyewitness to a wealth of musical history, thoughtful, cool and charming. Fame seemed a bit of a drag - how unusual. Some people seem distressed when the pin-up comes down off the wall but Ronstadt - here on the verge of superstardom- was always far more down to earth than the pretentious bs swirling around her. Girl just wanted to sing and sing some more.
Willie Nelson said it best; "There are 2 kinds of men in this world, those who have a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who have never heard of her."

She was ahead of her time, an architect of a musician with a beautiful earthly vibrant spirit.
Perhaps her timing was perfect. Listen to her declared challenges and insecurities / shortfalls, she meets them and overcomes same...her way.
One of my favorite female voices ever. SO pure and powerful. Those beautiful brown eyes sure don't hurt either.
She is so humble and beautiful and talented. She is in a class all by herself.
She is a beautiful soul, real person and her musical career is a gift to my generation! She may be older now, but she is still this sweet girl!
Linda's Spanish songs put the icing on the cake. Her hispanic roots are on full beautiful display! Love you Linda!
Actually, her English language songs put the icing on the cake, and her Caucasian roots are what makes it all possible!
This is one of the best interviews I have ever seen.
A breath of fresh air and a beautiful blast from the past, everything seems fake today, strange times.peace
Yes, Bob Harris was a relaxed gentleman, polite and non-intrusive. He was well-loved by viewers.
It was pretty good. Definitely could be her best ever. This should be saved for posterity.
Agreed. Good interview....good interviewer.
Andrew Brendan That s whispering Bob Harris off whistle test
Andrew Brendan -
I critique interviews for a living, personal enjoyment, sport, and a divine hatred for idiots, assholes, and mediocrity.
She knows Bob Harris , the interviewer, is the real thing . There are no angles with Bob , he just loves good music and music artistes .
I am beyond sad that she can no longer sing.
she is beautiful and her voice is simply addictive
It really is amazing just how absolutely beautiful she was.
Kevin Lake 100% agreed
Kevin Lake and smart!!!!
Hello Kevin Lake
You can say that again.
I was thinking the same thing as I watched this vid.
Part of what makes her so be beautiful is that she's not all full of herself. She's real and open and able to laugh at herself.
I read her memoir, and not only is she so talented, but she truly is a professional. She was somewhat harsh on herself and her talent. But I think she's perfect, and I love her!!
This is first hand, rock and roll history gold.
She hasn't done many interviews over the years, but always comes across as smart & funny but also down to earth, sweet & humble !
jaye lamb Haaaaa!!!!! She didn’t “know” them. They were HER band. She put that band together, and they say so
@@wildmercuryfilms She also encouraged them to leave her and form their own band, which was very magnanimous of her.
She speaks differently about music. She truly loved and understood music. From the abundance of the soul the mouth speaks.
Love that.
A class act from the best age of music - long before MTV and auto-tune. Back then the artists had to be supremely talented and still they were so humble. Far cry from today....
So true
I can't keep up with what's been going on
I guess my heart just must be slowing down
Among these human beings,
in their designer jeans
Am I the only one who hears the screams
And the strangled cries of Lawyers in Love....
She is wonderful. I always liked her music, but within the past couple of years, I discovered I actually love it and in all probability, her. Obviously not physically as I don't know her, but she comes across as someone who you could always depend on and if she could help in any way, she would.
This how I feel. I would be her bodyguard and confidante if fate had allowed.
What a treat this clip is. Just wanted to watch a snippet but her genuineness pulled me in all the way. Just a regular down to earth chick with a singular voice that took the world by storm 🔥
I love how down to earth and casual she is.
I would enjoy watching her recite the phone book. She is easy on the eyes.
She still has this amazing personality. Not just addictive to listen to musically but also her story telling and down to earth genuine realness is appealing. Her tales of the Troubadour are as legendary as the club.
How could anyone not love that young woman. God bless her!
You would never know such a strong, powerful singing voice comes out of the same voice box as her speaking voice. 🙂 She’s her loveliest at this time of her life.
TJ Wash kinda like Jim Nabors but different 😀
One of the best interviews in rock n roll. So genuine and gorgeous
She was so beautiful and open, honest, innocent, authentic. She was who I wanted to be!!!
Maybe you are.
She is so real, that's one of the things I've always loved about Linda. The faces, the way she pulls on her hair, the way she dosen't like to listen to herself!? The voice of a generation! Always a joy to listen to! Thank you Linda, for hours upon hours of sheer pleasure!
If you want to look up the definition of true professional in the music industry, Linda Ronstadt's name and picture would be the first and last.
I love this interview, she was allowed to SPEAK...only prompting her with short questions to elaborate on her stories. Well done!
I am still in Love with her 50 years later.
I've had a crush on her since the early 70s. If I had been 5 years older, I would have skipped college and gone searching for her before Jerry Brown nabbed her.
She's my favorite singer, and I am always blown away by how beautiful she is. There is no one else quite like her. There never will be.
I could listen to her all day.
Absolutely love love love her!!
what a genuine, disarmingly beautiful young woman
Truly one of the best and most versatile singers ever. rock, country, pop standard, Gilbert & Sullivan. Who else has a resume like this?
You forgot to mention mariachi....BEAUTIFUL!!!
Whispering Bob Harris asking the questions & just letting Linda talk such a great interviewer.
GREAT interview Linda Ronstadt your Awesome! From one of your local fans since 1970s!! Thanks to you tube I am to write a comment about you! As noted above! Ronstadt bus center named after your family name! So we all know your famous! Well those who listen to your music!! 😁🌵🌅❤️🎼🎶🎵🎶
I met her once, briefly. It was much later. She was very down to earth. I think she's quite genuine, and an amazing singer.
This is rare. Linda was, is simply divine. Soon after this she became a reluctant superstar. Splendid pipes.
Pipes of glory. Her singing voice, now lost, was something very special. Her heart, mind and vibe remain fascinating. The excellent recent documentary shows only the tip of her musical mountain. Oh yeah she was hardcore adorable as well.
She is such a beautiful soul and sweetheart💟☮️☯️
Man is she such a sweetheart.
I just love her so much.
An authentic, true talent the likes of which are simply not seen today. She'll always be a classic.
She is so amazingly talented. Beautiful voice. Never saw her interviewed before, so well spoken and open.🎵🎼
She's beautiful, humble, insightful, and i could listen to her talk about what she was talking about for a lot longer.
Also the interviewer was great in that he asked good questions and then was quiet. It seems a lot of interviewers in modern times like to hear themselves too much.
Interviewer was John Peel I think, a BBC DJ.
@@deadandburied7626 the smooth voice is Bob Harris
Lovely woman and completely a musician to her core
So refreshing to go back in time and listen to this type of "honest little conversation" interview versus today's so-called stars' calculated and overly rehearsed/staged commercial product style interviews. Love that she's critical of herself and not pulling the "I'm the greatest" crap that we hear way too much from today's MUCH less talented artists.
One of the great female voices of the 1970s. Alot of her hits were remakes but she was so good she made them her own
Great interview.
Why did you interview her?
@@trawlins396 Good question..
What a beautiful soul
One of the coolest......and nicest......and most talented people in the music industry in decades. Linda is one of a kind.
ever since I can remember I have loved Linda....I pray that she can feel the energy from all the people who wish her well
I had no idea how adorable she was. I'm in love.
Me too. Keep your hands off her!
Hey fella, get in line lol
I've been in love with Lynda for years. She is a sweetheart. I love her Spanish album songs about her father..
@@mogerking she's 71
Or more you missed it
@William Murray yeah right
She was so pretty with a voice to match.
It was a special time... never to be repeated.
