God, I miss these days.... when female singers were fully dressed, intelligent, well spoken, and could SING without technology.... she was adorable... thank you Linda for all the beautiful music! We love you.
Well Karen, Linda was most beautiful in her short mini skirts from the 1970s. Remember the seventies were much more decadent and avant garde than the Reagan conservative eighties era, and particularly with the advent of the HIV/AIDS epidemic that was to completely change sex practices and behavior.

One of the very best You tube rabbit holes - Linda Ronstadt. Early stuff, arena rock, Rancheras, the most akward and charming interviews, her power and tenderness is special. Very diverse. Seems deeply beloved.
Her hardcore natural adorableness can (almost) distract from the fact that Linda Ronstadt possessed some of the greatest female pipes in popular American music history.
I wouldnt want to bet that she couldnt sing opera. Her Spanish singing might be even better than her English songs, and i cant even understand Spanish.
I saw Linda Ronstadt in Detroit (Pine Knob) in 1977. I was in high school and someone gave me tickets. I had to find someone with a driver's license who could take me. Her voice was HUGE. She was beautiful, chose good songs, and had a tremendous voice. Now that I'm older, got a music degree, and learned about what is out there, her album of jazz standards are some of best versions ever done.
My favorite! I needed a plumbing part one Sunday am and that song was playing. I had to stop and listen. A lady passing by asked if I was ok. Me teary. Again.
Once met a dude who played with her. "She was so cute you would get distracted from the job -- then she would sing and your musical muscles including your heart were excercised" Something about her ...sigh.
In the late seventies early one morning, while staying over at a friends house, as I was walking up. The friend put "Blue Bayou" on her sound system, being sung by Linda. I thought I had died and was waking up in heaven, and an angel was singing. I didn't know who she was that day? It didn't take long until I did. She was an angel who came to the planet for the purpose of bringing pleasure to the ears of the rest world.
How damn charming is this? Being Cool is easy but to be respected and beloved in an often dirty rotten business - now that is something. Linda Ronstadt was/is special.
And in addition to all the wonderful things said about her, it makes me glad that she and I hail from the same town. Her performances for our high school gymnasium dances were second to none! God Bless you, Linda!
Johnny nailed it when he said 'great EYES.' I watched her sing with Earon Neville and then Smokey Robinson; Her eyes actually SPARKLE, like no one else ever, SPARKLE. You will as I weep at such BEAUTY, STUNNING, no one else ever like her !

Your comment so, for me, sums her up; so accurate. She was one of a kind. She was quirky and loved the songs she sang more than anything. She was beautiful and, as I said to my brother the other night, she was on the road for 10 years so, of course, there were men; possibly more than the average. She did not marry her high school boyfriend and stay in Tucson so she had relationships. As she once said herself, "women are not quite so ready to "take up the slack" with anyone who passes through the dressing room". (I think she was possibly referencing The Eagles as men who do.) Still, she must have got lonely and may, every now and again have "taken up the slack." If she did, none of those men are talking and all her fellow musicians really respect her (Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Andrew Gold etc etc) At heart she was a woman who loved music, really liked other women and was a loyal friend and wanted to be a mother (she made that happen without a man). @@joannaedwards6325 great singers but never accomplished the things Linda has. She's succeeded in so many genres of music. Country, Rock, Pop, Big Band, Light Opera and even tackled Spanish music. That is what makes her special. It sets her apart from all other singers. She recorded what she WANTED to record. One style after another. And amazingly her album sales continued to blossom. An immensely talented and courageous woman.
Linda Linda Linda, what an incredible vocalist and she could sing any genre. Listen to her cover of "Crazy" if you've never heard that. What a treasure to come across that. Very few singers can cover a prior #1 hit and make it sound as good or better than the original. She's an original, no doubt about it. Just FAB.
I miss her singing so much....very lucky to have attended two of her shows. What an extremely gifted singer. Wonderful personality and physically beautiful.
j flo; It's true; 40 years of recording and touring, and not a single person ever had anything but nice things to say about her; Its funny how both Linda and Stevie Nicks were raised in Tuscon, AZ; but Stevie became a prima donna; Linda never did.....so the only persons I've seen say nasty things about her is that asshole Howard Stern and his token Robin; attacking her for defending Mexicans, even making fun of her disease....man I hate that guy
j flo I love her, and she modestly calls herself a song interpreter. And I think she only wrote a few songs. But if she did your song, man, its always ingenious...
mikebtko; well, finally somebody else that is RECENT! Mike, you see that all comments here are from one to two years ago....maybe it's just you & I, still fawning over Lovely Linda....I loved everything about her, and I found myself literally just dating girls that resembled her!
Mikebtko; WOW I am still trying to absorb everything you said, and I absolutely agree with everything you say here! My, you are quite articulate there, Dude! I can't read as fast as you can type; I can tell you were in the media; So I am moving to The Dominican Republic! We'll be neighbors! Again, totally agree with everything you state here
Ahhh the good ol days. Better times. Better times. We can dissect this interview and pick it apart for many things in regards to awareness of the way Johnny still manages to tap into misogyny but having lived during that era - one can still appreciate the candor even to this day ❤
Geesh, even today, it's disorienting to hear an entertainer display this level of intelligence. Her mind is moving a thousand miles a second in this interview. At one point, Carson just gave up and let her run.

Can you imagine in 2021 telling your interviewee that they have nice eyes and legs? As a product of the 1970s, that used to be considered a compliment!
I revisit this interview every few months. Captures the essence of these two people. Linda Ronstadt is a singer for all seasons of your life and all moods of your day. Couldn't sleep last night, a bit of a cold and an anxious mind. This 64 year old baby needed a lullaby; Ms. Ronstadt to the rescue. Her cd made for her own children, "Dedicated to the One I Love" did the trick. Dog liked it, too.
I know that was meant to be a compliment, and I guess it was, but why do you never hear comments like that male musicians? " I was never aware how intelligent Luciana Pavarotti is." . " How very intellectual Neil Diamond is." Of course she was and is incredibly bright.
Linda is absolutely compelling, such intelligence and beauty not to mention talent....the host is incredibly good at his work and brings the very best out
That was a cute interview Linda. You are a very young soul who jumped into a youth oriented world, where age is scarey. They do seem to forget. Your voice still sound the same today, but like you I also lost my voice through illness, and in today's world would not want to sing anyway. Yes, I too was unable to have my Prince Charming find me. You are still beautiful and feel you could get a miracle and sing again. Parkinson's is bad, I know. Has your Dr tryed you on Gabapentin? It may work for you. Linda, I love❣️you and know how it feels. I too sang at one time. I hate getting older, it's just not me!!! s So, I'm trying to hum to that song"What have they done to My Song"🎵I don't know who made that song in 1971. I wish you could re-do it! It's a good tune. Best wishes, Much Love and Prayers to you, Linda Ronstadt. You are my very favorite singer and personality🕊️💙You surely are not forgotten, I still play your songs💃🎤🎶
Knew of her hit songs but have never heard her "talk." She talks so fast! She is also so cute and adorable too, in such a natural and unvarnished way. I can't think of anyone currently in the music business now if which that can be said....
I cant blame Johnny for the flirting. NO STRAIGHT MAN could resist it, sitting within 6 feet from her.... And shes so innocent..... she talks like a 16 year old.
John Sullivan an innocent 16 year old, really!!! That's a loaded comment about a woman who really liked and was not afraid to show and enjoy her wonderful body at the pinnacle of her great singing career. To me she looks very Mexican.
When I started collecting records back in the early/mid-70s my local record store posted regular poll survey results and best female vocalist was almost always Linda Ronstadt. Sometimes Olivia Newton John, but otherwise it was just Linda Linda Linda, and I couldn't have agreed more. What a voice!
Carson looks like "book me some stupid people next week so I can do my comedy bit". Linda is so beautiful and smart she could talk for hours and we could all just stare and listen.
She has a quirky intelligent, fun personality--another dimension!! Very smart!! Not a diva-refreshing!! Her nerdy fun voice so different from her belter singer personality.
I sat through the entire interview just kind of mesmerized. Agree, her speaking voice is almost frail compared with how she sings. Never really heard her talk but she is fascinating to listen to.

Or Streisand.

Just FAB.
She's SOOOOOOOOO adorable in this video!!!
She is REAL, everyday personable, with levity, down to earth intelligible, fun, and the love of us all.
She’s a delightful interviewee.
She is off the chain brilliant
Linda R. Is so adorable and her sweetness so genuine that I forget what I wanted to say. Lol.
I miss her singing so much....very lucky to have attended two of her shows. What an extremely gifted singer. Wonderful personality and physically beautiful.
Ive never heard anyone that ever worked with her say a bad thing about her. She is genuine & sweet.
Same thing with Aaliyah
j flo; It's true; 40 years of recording and touring, and not a single person ever had anything but nice things to say about her; Its funny how both Linda and Stevie Nicks were raised in Tuscon, AZ; but Stevie became a prima donna; Linda never did.....so the only persons I've seen say nasty things about her is that asshole Howard Stern and his token Robin; attacking her for defending Mexicans, even making fun of her disease....man I hate that guy
j flo
I love her, and she modestly calls herself a song interpreter.
SHE IS AND ALWAYS BE HEAVEN SENT. AN ANGELIC VOICE,NO ONE WILL EVER MATCH. NOBODY DOES IT BETTER. I ADORE HER JOHNNY DID SO MY DADDY DID HER FAMILY AND SHE CAPTIVATED THE WORLD.🥀🥀🥀🥀😘😘😘🥂🍾🥂🍾🥂
She has such a sweet and cute personality and at the same time you can tell she’s a flipping genius musically
Began in 1964 at 99.9% and improved too 100% to last performance in 2009. That complete and consistent.
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo charming, I can hardly stand it! Love, love, love her! And the song was a knockout!
One of a kind is very true...it just so happens her kind was extremely rare. Words don't do her justice...just put on any of her records, close your eyes and enjoy her voice. It's enthralling. I've been one of her biggest fans since the first time I heard "Different Drum". How fitting Glenn Frey inducted her into the R&R HOF. He was a huge fan and enjoyed a long friendship with Linda. He was among millions of fans worldwide who just love her.
Dear Frank
And she was awarded a medal from President Obama for:
(her) " ONE OF A KIND VOICE "
@@joannaedwards6325 That's right...well suffice it to say she's the singer for a lifetime. Just bought her Canciones de mi Padre...going to pick just the right time, crank it up and enjoy the incomparable Linda, en espanol.
@@frankmisaege3520
Lucky you. She has always enunciated very well but I saw a brief clip of Linda singing in Spanish and she looked like she was moving her mouth around the words EXTRA conscientiously. idk. ??
btw Everybody mentions her big beautiful eyes and her great legs.
But I am mesmerized by her gorgeous mouth. Her teeth are so perfect and THOSE RED LIPS!
So sexy. So tempting. So luscious. Emmmm 💜🎼🎵🎶
@@joannaedwards6325 Ok...sounds great.
One of the best voices EVER!!!!!
I wonder if enough people get that Johnny would’ve given everything he had if every guest of his was this fascinating. He literally almost has to say & do nothing but feed her one line every 60 seconds and she’s off a on another brilliant tangent. Wow. She’s mesmerizing…🙏🎭🎼♥️
Beautiful Woman....Linda and Ann Wilson....had a huge crush on both as a boy back in the 80's
Great eyes? Everything about her screams.... Foxy Lady. She's absolutely beautiful.
+Grandpa the Grey amen!!! Even now, in 2015..... Shes VERY over weight... And I would ...without a doubt, still... : )
john Weston
You're not alone brother.
+Grandpa the Grey She IS the most beautiful female in music history. My favorite female I've never met.
But she let herself go and got faaaat
@@tobiasengel8385 she's in pain, motion is difficult, she's on medication, has Parkinsons -----so hopefully you might forgive her of the great sin regarding her body mass
Can you imagine in 2021 telling your interviewee that they have nice eyes and legs? As a product of the 1970s, that used to be considered a compliment!
Oh they would be told that’s offensive by the media and then sue.
One of the very best. Miss her. She can sing anything!!
I was never aware how intellectual and intelligent she is.
I know that was meant to be a compliment, and I guess it was, but why do you never hear comments like that male musicians? " I was never aware how intelligent Luciana Pavarotti is." . " How very intellectual Neil Diamond is." Of course she was and is incredibly bright.
She's just adorable!
Her part in pirates of Penzance is unbelievable, I’ve checked her music out since then, she’s truly amazing.Salford uk
So easy to fall in love with her in that movie! Lovely, precious!
I saw her in Pirates of Penzance on Broadway twice. She was awesome in it !
Lowell George was one of her great loves. Miss her talent, rip Lowell.
I cant blame Johnny for the flirting. NO STRAIGHT MAN could resist it, sitting within 6 feet from her.... And shes so innocent..... she talks like a 16 year old.
She was so slim & trim! She ate herself to fat & sick!
@@jgrysiak6566 She has Parkinson's disease, you insensitive idiot. She's had it since the early 2000's, but wasn't diagnosed till 2013.
John Sullivan an innocent 16 year old, really!!! That's a loaded comment about a woman who really liked and was not afraid to show and enjoy her wonderful body at the pinnacle of her great singing career. To me she looks very Mexican.
creepy
@@nomadic1932 And remy who is or are creepy? I am just curious.
This was awesome!! Love Linda and Johnny!
My favorite Singer!!
Class class class
Carson looks like "book me some stupid people next week so I can do my comedy bit". Linda is so beautiful and smart she could talk for hours and we could all just stare and listen.
I remember this interview when it aired. Two legends . . .
I realize that calling her adorable detracts from her enormous talent, but she is so damn cute.
Only jealous women say that. Lol
Then you hear her sing the Spanish songs.....incredible voice.
