Jeremy, thank you for all of your great and inspiring videos. I've started making knives, something I've wanted to do for 30 years and absolutley love it! Thank you sir!
I have been making for around a year and a half now, and I would definitely credit you and your videos like this with getting me started. Great to see you're still at it!
This is a GREAT video. No nonsense, no music and great helpful information a wonderful art. Great explanation about the burr on the knife edge, I was curious. I create a burr on my woodworking scrapers kind of wondered if they were the same. Thanks again for sharing this very informative video.
Jeremy, thank you so much for your care and consideration. I greatly enjoy and appreciate your videos. Keep up the good work. May you and your family continue to be blessed.
ive been making knife for a very long 3 to 4 months lol notice the single tense in knife, yes one knife. i am still enjoying it very much and the biggest thing ive learned is I NEED TOOLS LIKE YOU GUYS.i thank you for all the info that u pass along. ive never done any metal work past sharpening a couple of lawn mower blades on a bench grinder, so this has been a very educational road. ive learned how little i know. my first is{now complete} a bushcrafting spearpoint out of a 1923 sawmill blade about 3/16 thick. i am assuming it is a high carbon still. so i heat treated it in a wood fire in my back yard. i heated it to the point it wouldnt draw a magnet, quenced it in cooking oil i pretreated with a railroad spike. then tempered it in the oven at 400 for 2 hours let it cool down there till the next day. it seems very hard, and hard to sharpen. i put it to a test this week making feather sticks and process wood (acually batoning it throuh wood as in splitting wood.) it was dissappointing to fell the edge was not as sharp when finished as i woud have thought. any advice on how to do my next blank from this 1923 saw mill blade?
Dude, your awesome ive never been exposed to any of this type of metal work, I've built jet aircraft but thats a whole other world. Thanks for sharing my mind is Blown.
Man two in one day! It's like Christmas! I'm with you on the water dunk. I like it due to the time savings. I've read some forum posts where people smarter than me were saying there was actually a slight advantage... but sounds negligible to me. - Edit: just got to the end... great video as always sir! Loved it all.
I've totally done a normalizing cycle on knives that I was gonna temper in my kiln, and I have the tap control! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who's done it!
OMG.... sir you are a master!!!.... wish I could afford a knife made by you!.... I find your posts highly informative, educational & a pleasure to watch.... love your work, your tuition & your methodology..... the world is a better place with you.... thank you & keep it up.... love, light & life bru.... 👍🎫🙏🕊
With your stainless envelope, can you use like a paint brush roller or some kind of roller that can conform to the knife and roll the oxygen/air out of the end of the envelope before your final "sealing" crimp. Obviously not going to get all oxygen out but just a thought!! Sweet knife, great video!!
This might be one my favorite of your videos. Tons of detail and even specific questions I had were answered and as always looks and sounds phenomenal. Keep it up brother!
So many more intricate details when working with stainless steel that I’d never thought of, awesome video man I’ll be sure to check out some of your others!
0:32 I do agree with that. CPM 154 eats blades for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks in between. After I start cutting it I always tell myself why did I buy it again?
Nice tip with the black rouge on the polishing wheel! Definitely a bummer when you have to keep going back and forth between the finishing polish and hand sanding some of those places I missed.
That is a beautiful knife you have made. So thankful that you and other talented artist are out there for me to appreciate the work that you do. Thanks so much. (:
Great video and knife my friend! I think that is very similar to the model of your knives that I have except blade may be slightly narrower - I love it, btw!
I have seen your old video from 2016 about etching logo etc, on steel, that was a complex system, do you have a video where you explain the details of the system you are using in this video. I want to do some AC/DC etching and would like to know your whole process, from how to get the vinyl set up to the very end. THANKS
If I interrupted my dad while he was filming even if he had just finished he would still freak out 🥲 good job and not freaking out or getting upset at him.
Good morning, sir. Thanks for the videos they have been extremely helpful. I have the same issue with my DIY jig. My knives are coming out with the bevels much lower than I'd like. How do we achieve a higher bevel with a jig? Is it due to a difference in angle? Did the second jig have a lesser angle so the belts bite further up the spine? I finally have a 2x72 Arriving today. I would like to improve what I have been producing and this specific issue is one of the "things that gets me"
Wich grit Trizact belt did you use for this knife? Great video and good to have you back in making such great detailed and awesome videos, I am just starting out and have heard 90% of what you say in many other videos, but you always have some new and great tips and techniques in there. Really entertaining and helpful! THanks a lot for that!
Hey I'm sponging up your knowledge. I thoroughly enjoy your work. I understand you are from Alberta and was wondering if we could talk about sourcing. I am an internet dum dum I'm 45km south of Edmonton .thank's very much.
Hello Jeremy I would like to know what you would charge for 1 of those knives. I hunt and would like something to pass down to my daughters. You do such a good job 👏 I was just wondering.
I noticed you grind the bevels after heat treatment. With stainless like Abel is it best to grind bevels after heat treatment? Is there a disadvantage to grinding the bevels before heat treatment or is it just personal choice? Thank you for your time
Stainless does like to move in heat treat.. but you could grind the primary bevel ahead of time in most cases. We do that often enough for precision parts.
Do you have a video, or maybe could do a video, on running a knife business? I’ve been thinking about starting up one, but I quickly run into the issue that a lot of e-commerce websites don’t allow the sales of weapons, and then I run into the issue that liability insurance for knife makers is super expensive and if your home owners insurance finds out your running a knife making business from your property it can cause issues with them. I’m just curious what your experience with this was and if you ran into the same hurdles.
I do. I have a newsletter sign up on my website and when knives are available they are the first to find out. Homesteadknives.com if you’re interested. 👍
Great explanations. How come you grind the knife AFTER hardening the steel? Doesn’t that make the knife significantly more difficult to grind and also wear out your sanding belts faster? Why not grind a bit before heat treating ? obviously not too thin as it’ll warp the knife during quenching
Pro at work. And very good teaching!! Thanks. Did you do anything to get the texture finish near the spine of the very beautiful knive. Regards from Denmark
Careful with that G10, not sure if it's the same G10 we used in the machine shop I used to work at but I was told its essentially asbestos and can have the same negative effects as asbestos when ground and breathed
i dont have a forge or none of that stuff, what happends if i make a knife just cut out the steel belt grind it and put a handle on it, hand sand it etc... But I dont quench it or none of that, will i still have a decent knife i can use for day to day

Beautiful work! The blade looks thicker than 1/8, more like 3/16 - nice and beefy.
Thanks. It is 1/8”. Online video doesn’t always look like reality 😆👍
